ਤੂੰ ਵਡਾ ਤੂੰ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ॥
tooN vadaa tooN oocho oochaa.
O’ God, You are so Great! You are the Highest of the High!
Ee Mungu, Wewe ni Mkuu mno! Wewe ndiwe wa juu zaidi kwa wote!

ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਮੂਚੋ ਮੂਚਾ ॥
tooN bay-ant at moocho moochaa.
Your virtues are infinite, You are the greatest.
Fadhila zako hazina mwisho, Wewe ndiwe mkuu zaidi.

ਹਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਵੰਞਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੩੫॥
ha-o kurbaanee tayrai vanjaa naanak daas dasaavani-aa. ||8||1||35||
Nanak says, I the servant of Your servants, dedicate my life to You.
Nanak anasema, Mimi mtumishi wa watumishi wake, naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwako.

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
ka-un so muktaa ka-un so jugtaa.
Who is free from the bondage of worldly attractions, who is united with God?
Nani yuko huru kutoka utumwa wa vivutio vya kidunia, nani ameungana na Mungu?

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਬਕਤਾ ॥
ka-un so gi-aanee ka-un so baktaa.
Who has Divine knowledge, and who is a true preacher?
Nani ana maarifa Takatifu, na nani ni mhubiri wa kweli?

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
ka-un so girhee ka-un udaasee ka-un so keemat paa-ay jee-o. ||1||
Who is a householder, and who is a true renunciate? Who is the one who can estimate the worth of human life.
Nani ni mwenye nyumba, na nani ni mkanaji wa kweli? Nani anaweza kukadiri thamana ya maisha ya kibinadamu.

ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਛੂਟਾ ॥
kin biDh baaDhaa kin biDh chhootaa.
How is one bound to worldly riches and powers, and how can one free oneself?
Mtu anafungwa aje kwa utajiri na mamlaka ya kidunia, na mtu anawezaje kujikomboa?

ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤੂਟਾ ॥
kin biDh aavan jaavan tootaa.
How does one break the cycle of birth and death.
Mtu anawezaje kuvunja mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਕਉਣ ਕਰਮ ਕਉਣ ਨਿਹਕਰਮਾ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
ka-un karam ka-un nihkarmaa ka-un so kahai kahaa-ay jee-o. ||2||
Who is subjected to deeds and who is above deeds (unconcerned about their fruit).Who is the one who sings God’s praises and inspires others to do so also?
Nani ametiishwa kwa vitendo na nani yupo juu ya vitendo (hajihusishi na tunda lao). Nani ndiye anayeimba sifa za Mungu na kuhamasisha wengine kufanya hivyo pia?

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
ka-un so sukhee-aa ka-un so dukhee-aa.
Who is truly at peace and who is miserable?
Nani kwa kweli yupo katika amani na nani ametaabika?

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਵੇਮੁਖੀਆ ॥
ka-un so sanmukh ka-un vy mukhin-aa.
Who is a Sanmukh (follows Guru’s teachings) and who is a Vy mukhin-aa (follows the dictates of his own mind)?
Nani ni Sanmukh (anafuata mafundisho ya Guru) na nani ni Vy mukhin-aa (anafuata amri za akili yake mwenyewe)?

ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਛੁਰੈ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
kin biDh milee-ai kin biDh bichhurai ih biDh ka-un pargataa-ay jee-o. ||3||
How can we meet (God), and how is one separated from Him? Who is the person who shows us the right Path?
Tunawezaje kukutana (na Mungu), na mtu anawezaje kutenganishwa kutoka kwake? Nani ndiye mtu anayeweza kutuonyesha Njia ya kweli?

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਤਾ ॥
ka-un so akhar jit Dhaavat rahtaa.
What is that Word, by which the wandering mind can be restrained?
Nini ndilo hilo neno, ambalo kulipitia akili inayozurura inaweza kudhibitiwa?

ਕਉਣੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਸਹਤਾ ॥
ka-un updays jit dukh sukh sam sahtaa.
What are those teachings, by which we may endure pain and pleasure alike?
Ni yapi mafundisho hayo, ambayo kuyapitia tunaweza kukumbwa na uchungu na raha kwa usawa?

ਕਉਣੁ ਸੁ ਚਾਲ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
ka-un so chaal jit paarbarahm Dhi-aa-ay kin biDh keertan gaa-ay jee-o. ||4||
What is that lifestyle, by which we may come to meditate on the Supreme God? How may we sing His Praises?
Ni upi mtindo huo wa maisha, ambao kuupitia tunaweza kuja kutafakari kuhudu Mungu Mkuu? Tunawezaje kuimba sifa zake?

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥
gurmukh muktaa gurmukh jugtaa.
The Gurmukh (one who follows Guru’s teachings) is free from worldly attachments. The Gurmukh remains united with God.
Gurmukh (yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru) yupo huru kutoka viambatisho vya kidunia. Gurmukh anabaki ameungana na Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਕਤਾ ॥
gurmukh gi-aanee gurmukh baktaa.
The Guru’s follower is spiritually wise, and is a true preacher.
Mfuasi wa Guru ana hekima ya kiroho, na ni mhubiri wa kweli.

ਧੰਨੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥
Dhan girhee udaasee gurmukh gurmukh keemat paa-ay jee-o. ||5||
Guru’s follower is the blessed householder, the blessed renunciar.Only a Guru’s follower realizes the worth of human life.
Mfuasi wa Guru ni mwenye nyumba aliyebarikiwa, mkanaji aliyebarikiwa. Ni mfuasi wa Guru pekee anayegundua thamana ya maisha ya kibinadamu.

ਹਉਮੈ ਬਾਧਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੂਟਾ ॥
ha-umai baaDhaa gurmukh chhootaa.
Because of one’s ego, one is bound in the shackles of Maya. By following Guru’s advice, one is liberated from these bonds.
Kwa sababu ya ubinafsi wa mtu, mtu anafungwa katika pingu ya Maya. Kwa kufuata ushauri wa Guru, mtu anakombolewa kutoka vifungo hivi.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤੂਟਾ ॥
gurmukh aavan jaavan tootaa.
The Guru’s follower escapes the cycles of birth and death.
Mfuasi wa Guru anahepa mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਹਕਰਮਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਸੁਭਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੬॥
gurmukh karam gurmukh nihkarmaa gurmukh karay so subhaa-ay jee-o. ||6||
The Guru’s follower does good deeds, and does not expect any reward. Whatever the He does, it is out of his good nature.
Mfuasi wa Guru anatenda vitendo vizuri, na hatarajii zawadi yoyote. Chochote anachofanya, ni kutokana na silika yake nzuri.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੀਆ ॥
gurmukh sukhee-aa manmukh dukhee-aa.
The Guru’s follower is at peace, the self-willed is miserable.
Mfuasi wa Guru yupo katika amani, mwenye hiari binafsi anataabika.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਨਮੁਖੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਮੁਖੀਆ ॥
gurmukh sanmukh manmukh vaymukhee-aa.
The Guru’s follower turns toward the Guru, and the self-willed manmukh turns away from the Guru.
Mfuasi wa Guru anaegemea kwa Guru, na manmukh mwenye hiari binafsi anageuka kutoka kwa Guru.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਛੁਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੭॥
gurmukh milee-ai manmukh vichhurai gurmukh biDh pargataa-ay jee-o. ||7||
The guru’s follower is united with God, while the self-willed is separated from Him. the Guru’s follower reveals the way to unite with God.
Mfuasi wa Guru ameungana na Mungu, wakati mwenye hiari binafsi ametengwa naye. Mfuasi wa Guru anadhihirisha njia ya kuungana na Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਖਰੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਤਾ ॥
gurmukh akhar jit Dhaavat rahtaa.
It is the Guru’s word, by which the wandering mind is restrained.
Ni kwa neno la Guru, ambapo akili inayozurura inadhibitiwa.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਮ ਸਹਤਾ ॥
gurmukh updays dukh sukh sam sahtaa.
Through the Guru’s Teachings, one can endure pain and pleasure alike.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, mtu anaweza kuvumilia uchungu na raha kwa usawa.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਾਲ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੮॥
gurmukh chaal jit paarbarahm Dhi-aa-ay gurmukh keertan gaa-ay jee-o. ||8||
The Guru’s teaching reveals the way to meditate on God, Guru’s follower keeps singing God’s praises.
Mafundisho ya Guru yanadhihirisha njia ya kutafakari kuhusu Mungu, mfuasi wa Guru anaendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu.

ਸਗਲੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਆਪੇ ॥
saglee banat banaa-ee aapay.
(Whether a person is Guru’s follower or self-conceited), it is God Himself who has thus fashioned His creation.
(Ikiwa mtu ni mfuasi wa Guru ama mwenye hiari binafsi), ni Mungu mwenyewe ambaye ametengeneza uumbaji wake hivyo.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਥਾਪੇ ॥
aapay karay karaa-ay thaapay.
He Himself does and gets everything done from His creatures, and appoints them to different tasks.
Yeye mwenyewe anatenda na kufanya kila kitu kitendeke kutoka viumbe vyake, na anawateua kwa kazi tofauti.

ਇਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਹੋਇਓ ਅਨੰਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੯॥੨॥੩੬॥
ikas tay ho-i-o anantaa naanak aykas maahi samaa-ay jee-o. ||9||2||36||
O’ Nanak, it is He, who assumed limitless forms from One form (God) and ultimately all the forms will be merged into that One again.
Ee Nanak, ni Yeye, aliyechukua miundo isiyo na kikomo kutoka muundo Mmoja (Mungu) na mwishowe miundo yote itaunganishwa na ule Mmoja tena.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਾੜਾ ॥
parabh abhinaasee taa ki-aa kaarhaa.
When one believes that he is protected by the Imperishable God, then why should anyone be anxious?
Wakati mtu anaamini ya kwamba analindwa na Mungu asiyeweza kufa, basi kwa nini mtu yeyote awe na wasiwasi?

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਖਰਾ ਸੁਖਾਲਾ ॥
har bhagvantaa taa jan kharaa sukhaalaa.
When one believes that one has the support of the Master of all happiness, then one feels truly at peace.
Wakati mtu anaamini ya kwamba ana msaada wa Bwana wa furaha yote, basi mtu anahisi yupo katika amani.

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
jee-a paraan maan sukh-daata tooN karahi so-ee sukh paavni-aa. ||1||
O’ God, when one believes that You are the giver of life-breath, honor and peace, and everything happens under Your command, then one enjoys bliss.
Ee Mungu, wakati mtu anaamini ya kwamba wewe ndiwe mpaji wa pumzi ya uhai, heshima na amani, na kila kitu kinatendeka kulingana na amri yako, basi mtu anafurahia raha tele.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree gurmukh man tan bhaavni-aa.
I dedicate my life to that Guru’s follower to whom You look pleasing.
Naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwa yule mfuasi wa Guru ambaye anapendezwa nawe.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਰਬਤੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਓਲਾ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tooN mayraa parbat tooN mayraa olaa tum sang lavai na laavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, You are my shelter and shield like a mountain. I consider no one equal to You.
Ee Mungu, wewe ndiwe kificho na ngao yangu kama mlima. Sidhani mwengine kwa sawa na Wewe.

ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
tayraa keetaa jis laagai meethaa.
That person who accepts Your Will as sweet,
Yule mtu anayekubali Mapenzi yako kama tamu,

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥
ghat ghat paarbarahm tin jan deethaa.
comes to realize the Supreme God pervading in each and every heart.
Anakuja kugundua Mungu Mkuu akienea katika kila moyo.

ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
thaan thanantar tooNhai tooNhai iko ik vartaavani-aa. ||2||
In all places and interspaces, You exist. You are the One and the Only One, pervading everywhere.
Katika kila mahali na kati ya pahali pote, Wewe upo. Wewe ndiwe Mmoja na Mmoja wa pekee unayeenea kote.

ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
sagal manorath tooN dayvanhaaraa.
You are the Fulfiller of all the mind’s desires.
Wewe ndiwe unayetimiza hamu zote za akili.

ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਇ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
bhagtee bhaa-ay bharay bhandaaraa.
O’ God, You are full of love and devotional worship.
Ee Mungu, Wewe umejaa upendo na ibada ya kujitolea.

ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
da-i-aa Dhaar raakhay tuDh say-ee poorai karam samaavani-aa. ||3||
Showing mercy, whom You save from the influence of Maya, by perfect destiny they remain absorbed in You.
Ukionyesha huruma, ambao unakomboa kutoka ushawishi wa Maya, kwa hatima kamili wanabaki wamevama ndani mwako.
