ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਇਹੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
gur kai sabad ih gufaa veechaaray.
The one who explores his mind and body through the Guru’s word,
Yule anayevumbua akili na mwili wake kupitia neno la Guru,

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
naam niranjan antar vasai muraaray.
finds that the Immaculate Naam, the Name of God, abides deep within the self.
Anapata Naam safi, Jina la Mungu, linaishi ndani kwa kina mwa nafsi.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
har gun gaavai sabad suhaa-ay mil pareetam sukh paavni-aa. ||4||
The one who sings God’s praises, through the Guru’s word, he gets honor in God’s court and he is able to enjoy bliss by realizing his beloved God.
Yule anayeimba sifa za Mungu, kupitia neno la Guru, yeye anapata heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu na anaweza kufurahia raha tele kwa kumgundua Mungu wake mpendwa.

ਜਮੁ ਜਾਗਾਤੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਕਰੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
jam jaagaatee doojai bhaa-ay kar laa-ay.
The demon (fear) of death troubles the one, who is attached to duality.
Pepo (hofu) ya kifo inamsumbua yule, ambaye ameambatanishwa na pande mbili.

ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਦੇਇ ਸਜਾਏ ॥
naavhu bhoolay day-ay sajaa-ay.
He (the demon) inflicts punishment on whom, who has forgotten God’s Name.
Yeye (pepo) anatao adhabu kwa yule, ambaye amesahau Jina la Mungu.

ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਲੇਵੈ ਰਤੀਅਹੁ ਮਾਸਾ ਤੋਲ ਕਢਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
gharhee muhat kaa laykhaa layvai ratee-ahu maasaa tol kadhaavani-aa. ||5||
He is called to account for each and every moment of his life. Even the minutest deed of his life is judged.
Anapasishwa kutoa hesabu kwa ajili ya kila kipindi maishani mwake. Hata kwa kitendo kidogo kabisa maishani mwake anahukumiwa.

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਚੇਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
pay-ee-arhai pir chaytay naahee.
The soul-bride, who does not remember her Master while in her parents home (this world),
Roho kama bi harusi, ambaye hamkumbuki Bwana wake wakati yumo katika nyumba ya wazazi wake (dunia hii),

ਦੂਜੈ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਵੈ ਧਾਹੀ ॥
doojai muthee rovai Dhaahee.
is being cheated by duality; she shall weep bitterly in the end.
Anadanganywa na uwili; yeye atalia kwa uchungu mwishowe.

ਖਰੀ ਕੁਆਲਿਓ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kharee ku-aali-o kuroop kulkhanee supnai pir nahee paavni-aa. ||6||
Such a soul bride is of low status, vile, and wicked. she did not meet (remember) her Master even in her dream.
Roho kama bi harusi kama huyo ni wa hadhi ya chini, mbaya na muovu. Hakukutana (kumkumbuka) Bwana wake hata kwa ndoto yake.

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
pay-ee-arhai pir man vasaa-i-aa.
She who enshrines her Master in her mind while at her parents home (this world).
Yule anayethamini Bwana wake akilini mwake wakati yumo katika nyumba ya wazazi wake (dunia hii).

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
poorai gur hadoor dikhaa-i-aa.
His Presence is revealed to her by the Perfect Guru.
Uwepo Wake unadhihirishwa kwake na Guru Kamili.

ਕਾਮਣਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
kaaman pir raakhi-aa kanth laa-ay sabday pir raavai sayj suhaavani-aa. ||7||
Such a soul-bride keeps her Master in her heart. By following the Guru’s word, she enjoys the company of her Master.
Roho kamaa bi harusi kama huyo anaweka Bwana wake moyoni mwake. Kwa kufuata neno la Guru, anafurahia uwepo wa Bwana wake.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਦਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
aapnaa naa-o man vasaa-ay. aapay dayvai sad bulaa-ay.
God Himself sends out the calls (becomes merciful on us), and He enshrines His Name within our minds.
Mungu mwenyewe anatuma miito (kuwa mwenye huruma kwetu), na Yeye anaweka vizuri Jina lake ndani mwa akili zetu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੮॥੨੯॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee an-din sadaa gun gaavani-aa. ||8||28||29||
O’ Nanak, the one who realizes Naam receives honor both here and in God’s court, and he always keep singing God’s praises.
Ee Nanak, yule anayegundua Naam anapokea heshima humu na katika mahakama ya Mungu, na daima anaendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu.

ਊਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਹੈ ਵਾਸਾ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਘਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥
ootam janam suthaan hai vaasaa.satgur sayveh ghar maahi udaasaa.
Those who, by following the true Guru’s teachings remain detached from the worldly entanglements while living in their households. Sublime is their birth, and the place where they live.
Wale ambao, kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru wa Kweli wanabaki wamejitenga na misongamano ya kidunia wakati wanaishi kwa nyumba zao. Tukufu ni kuzaliwa kwao, na mahali ambapo wanaishi.

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
har rang raheh sadaa rang raatay har ras man tariptaavni-aa.||1||
They always remain imbued with God’s love and thus their minds remain satiated with the elixir of Naam.
Daima wanabaki wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu na hivyo akili zao zinabaki zimetoshelezwa na dawa ya Naam.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਪੜਿ ਬੁਝਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree parh bujh man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who after reading and understanding the holy books, enshrine Naam in their mind.
Najiweka wakfu kwa wale ambao baada ya kusoma na kuelewa vitabu takatifu, wanathamini Naam akilini mwao.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਹਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh parheh har naam salaaheh dar sachai sobhaa paavni-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru’s followers read the scriptures and praise God’s Name; they are honored in the True Court.
Wafuasi wa Guru wanasoma maandishi na kusifu Jina la Mungu, wanaheshimika katika Mahakama ya Kweli.

ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
alakh abhay-o har rahi-aa samaa-ay.
The imperceptible and incomprehensible God pervades everywhere.
Mungu asiyeonekana na asiyeeleweka anaenea kote.

ਉਪਾਇ ਨ ਕਿਤੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਏ ॥
upaa-ay na kitee paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
He cannot be realized by any effort,
Yeye hawezi kugunduliwa kwa jitihada yoyote,

ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
kirpaa karay taa satgur bhaytai nadree mayl milaavani-aa. ||2||
Only if God shows mercy, He causes one to meet the True Guru, and the person is united with Him through His grace.
Iwapo tu Mungu aonyeshe huruma yake, Yeye anafanya mtu akutane na Guru wa Kweli, na mtu huyo anaunganishwa naye kupitia neema ya Mungu.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪੜੈ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay parhai nahee boojhai.
The person, who studies the scriptures, while attached to duality does not understand these. He does not get any divine enlightenment.
Mtu ambaye, anayesoma na kuchunguza maandishi, akiwa amejiambatisha na uwili haelewi haya. Yeye hapati kuangazwa takatifu kwokwote.

ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
taribaDh maa-i-aa kaaran loojhai.
He keep agonizing for the three phased maya (vice, virtue and power).
Anaendelea kupata maumivu ya Maya yenye awamu tatu (dhambi, fadhila na mamlaka).

ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
taribaDh banDhan tooteh gur sabdee gur sabdee mukat karaavani-aa. ||3||
The bonds of the three-phased Maya are broken by the Guru’s word. Through the Guru’s word, liberation is achieved.
Vifungo vya Maya yenye awamu tatu vinavunjwa kwa neno la Guru. Kupitia neno la Guru, ukombozi unafanikishwa.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
ih man chanchal vas na aavai.
This impulsive mind cannot be held steady.
Akili hii yenye misukumo na misisimko haiwezi kuwekwa thabiti.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
dubiDhaa laagai dah dis Dhaavai.
Attached to duality, mind wanders in all the ten directions.
Ikiambatishwa kwa uwili, akili inazurura katika mielekeo yote kumi.

ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
bikh kaa keerhaa bikh meh raataa bikh hee maahi pachaavani-aa. ||4||
Like a poisonous worm, the mind remains imbued with the poisonous love of worldly wealth, and rots away in that poison itself.
Kama minyoo mwenye sumu, akili inabaki imejawa na upendo wenye sumu wa utajiri wa kidunia, na inaoza katika sumu hiyo yenyewe.

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪੁ ਜਣਾਏ ॥
ha-o ha-o karay tai aap janaa-ay.
Practicing egotism and selfishness, he tries to impress others by showing off.
Kwa kutenda ubinafsi na uchoyo, anajaribu kuvutia wengine kwa majisifu.

ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
baho karam karai kichh thaa-ay na paa-ay.
He perform all sorts of rituals, but rituals are not accepted in God’s court.
Anafanya aina yote ya mila, lakini mila hazikubaliki katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
tujh tay baahar kichhoo na hovai bakhsay sabad suhaavani-aa. ||5||
O’ God, nothing happens outside Your Will. When God bestows grace, only then one’s life is adorned through the Guru’s word.
Ee Mungu, hakuna kitu kinatendeka nje ya Mapenzi yako. Wakati Mungu anatawaza neema, wakati huo tu ndio maisha ya mtu yanapambwa kupitia neno la Guru.

ਉਪਜੈ ਪਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
upjai pachai har boojhai naahee.
One who doesn’t realize God, is spiritually dead (born and dies again and again).
Yule ambaye hamgundui Mungu, ni mfu kiroho (anazaliwa na kufa tena na tena).

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥
an-din doojai bhaa-ay firaa-ee.
They always wander in love with duality.
Daima wanazurura kwa kupendezwa na uwili.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਹੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
manmukh janam ga-i-aa hai birthaa ant ga-i-aa pachhutaavani-aa. ||6||
The lives of the self-willed person goes to waste; in the end, he leaves the world, regretting and repenting.
Maisha ya watu wenye hiari binafsi yanapotea bure; mwishowe, anaondoka duniani, akijuta na kutubu.

ਪਿਰੁ ਪਰਦੇਸਿ ਸਿਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁ ਐਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
pir pardays sigaar banaa-ay.manmukh anDh aisay karam kamaa-ay.
Like a young bride who decorates herself while her groom has gone abroad, the self-conceited person blinded in the love of Maya does foolish deeds.
Kama bi harusi kijana anayejipamba wakati bwana harusi wake ameenda ng’ambo, mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi aliyepofushwa katika upendo wa Maya anafanya vitendo pumbavu.

ਹਲਤਿ ਨ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਲਤਿ ਨ ਢੋਈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
halat na sobhaa palat na dho-ee birthaa janam gavaavni-aa. ||7||
Such a person neither receives honor in this world, nor refuge in God’s court, and thus wastes the human birth.
Mtu kama huyo hapokei heshima katika dunia hii, wala kificho katika mahakama ya Mungu na hivyo anapoteza bure kuzaliwa kwa ubinadamu.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
har kaa naam kinai virlai jaataa.
Only a very rare person has realized God’s Name.
Ni mtu nadra sana pekee ambaye amegundua Jina la Mungu.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
pooray gur kai sabad pachhaataa.
It is only through Guru’s word that any person has realized God.
Ni kupitia neno la Guru pekee ambapo mtu yeyote amegundua Mungu.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥
an-din bhagat karay din raatee sehjay hee sukh paavni-aa. ||8||
Night and day, he performs God’s devotional worship; and intuitively obtains peace.
Usiku na mchana, anafanya ibada ya kujitolea kwa Mungu; na kwa utaratibu anapata amani.

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
sabh meh vartai ayko so-ee.
The same One (God) is pervading in all.
Yule Mmoja (Mungu) anaenea katika yote.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gurmukh virlaa boojhai ko-ee.
Only a rare Guru’s follower recognize this.
Ni mfuasi nadra pekee wa Guru anatambua hiyo.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੯॥੨੯॥੩੦॥
naanak naam ratay jan soheh kar kirpaa aap milaavani-aa. ||9||29||30||
O’ Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam are beautiful. Granting His Grace, God unites them with Himself.
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wamemakinikia Naam ni wazuri. Akiruzuku Neema yake, Mungu anawaunganisha naye Mwenyewe.
