ਆਪੇ ਊਚਾ ਊਚੋ ਹੋਈ ॥
aapay oochaa oocho ho-ee.
He Himself is the Highest of the High.
Yeye mwenyewe ni wa Juu zaidi kwa wote.

ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਖਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jis aap vikhaalay so vaykhai ko-ee.
Only that rare person is able to have His vision, whom He reveals Himself.
Ni mtu nadra pekee anaweza kuwa na njozi yake, ambaye Yeye amejidhihirisha kwake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਖਾਲਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੬॥੨੭॥
naanak naam vasai ghat antar aapay vaykh vikhaalani-aa. ||8||26||27||
O’ Nanak, when God’s Name comes to abide in some one’s heart, that person himself realizes God, and reveals Him to others
Ee Nanak, wakati Jina la Mungu linakuja kuishi moyoni mwa mtu, mtu huyo mwenyewe anamgundua Mungu, na kumdhihirisha kwa wengine.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਥਾਈ ॥
mayraa parabh bharpoor rahi-aa sabh thaa-ee.
My God is pervading everywhere.
Mungu wangu anaenea kote.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee ghar hee meh paa-ee.
By Guru’s Grace, I have found Him within my own heart.
Kwa Neema ya Guru, nimempata Mungu ndani mwa moyo wangu.

ਸਦਾ ਸਰੇਵੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
sadaa sarayvee ik man Dhi-aa-ee gurmukh sach samaavani-aa. ||1||
I always remember and worship Him with single-minded concentration. By the Guru’s grace I remain absorbed in the eternal God.
Daima namkumbuka na kumuabudu kwa umakini wa nia moja. Kwa neema ya Guru nabaki nimevama katika Mungu wa milele.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree jagjeevan man vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to those who enshrine God, the Life of the universe, in their minds.
Najiweka wakfu kwa wale wanaothamini Mungu, Uhai wa Ulimwengu, akilini mwao.

ਹਰਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har jagjeevan nirbha-o daataa gurmat sahj samaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s teachings, I merge with intuitive ease in God, the Life of the World, the Fearless One and the Great Giver.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, naungana na Mungu kwa urahisi wa hisia na silika, Uhai wa Ulimwengu, yule Asiye na Woga na Mpaji Mkuu.

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲੁ ਪਾਤਾਲਾ ॥
ghar meh Dhartee Dha-ul paataalaa.
God who supports this earth, (the mythical Bull), and the nether-regions of the world, resides within the heart of the mortals
Mungu anayetoa msaada kwa dunia hii, (ndume wa kihadithi), na maeneo ya chini ya dunia, anaishi ndani mwa akili ya binadamu.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
ghar hee meh pareetam sadaa hai baalaa.
Within every heart dwells the Eternally Young Beloved God.
Ndani mwa kila moyo mnaishi Mungu wa milele Mpendwa mwenye Ujana.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
sadaa anand rahai sukh-daata gurmat sahj samaavani-aa. ||2||
The Giver of peace is eternally blissful. Through the Guru’s teachings, we are absorbed in intuitive peace.One who through the Guru’s teaching remembers the bestower of peace (God), intuitively remains in bliss.
Mpaji wa amani ni mwenye raha tele milele. Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, tunavamishwa kwa amani angavu.Yule ambayr kupitia mafundisho ya Guru anamkumbuka Mtawaza wa amani (Mungu) anabaki katika raha tele kwa hisia na silika.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
kaa-i-aa andar ha-umai mayraa.
When one’s body is filled ego and emotional attachment,
Wakati mwili wa mtu unajawa na ubinafsi na kiambatisho cha kihisia,

ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥
jaman maran na chookai fayraa.
Then his cycle of birth and death does not end.
Basi mzunguko wake wa kuzaliwa na kufa hautamatiki.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
gurmukh hovai so ha-umai maaray sacho sach Dhi-aavani-aa. ||3||
One who becomes Guru’s follower, subdues egotism, and meditates on the eternal God alone.
Yule anayekuwa mfuasi wa Guru, anashinda ubinafsi, na kutafakari kuhusu Mungu wa milele pekee.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥
kaa-i-aa andar paap punn du-ay bhaa-ee.
Within this body are the two brothers, sin and virtue.
Ndani mwa mwili huu kuna ndugu wawili, dhambi na mema.

ਦੁਹੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
duhee mil kai sarisat upaa-ee.
When the two joined together, they created the mortals on the earth.
Wakati hao wawili waliungana, waliumba binadamu duniani.

ਦੋਵੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
dovai maar jaa-ay ikat ghar aavai gurmat sahj samaavani-aa. ||4||
The person who under the Guru’s guidance rises above both, remains in God’s presence absorbed in intuitive peace.
Mtu ambaye chini ya mwongozo wa Guru anazidi yote mbili, anabaki katika uwepo wa Mungu katika amani angavu.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਅਨੇਰਾ ॥
ghar hee maahi doojai bhaa-ay anayraa.
Because of the love of duality, the human mind is always filled with the darkness of ignorance.
Kwa sababu ya upendo wa uwili, akili ya kibinadamu daima imejawa na giza ya ujinga.

ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਛੋਡੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
chaanan hovai chhodai ha-umai mayraa.
When one sheds one’s sense of ego and emotional attachment, then the divine light dawns.
Wakati mtu anaondoa hisi zake za ubinafsi na kiambatisho cha kihisia, kisha mwanga takatifu unapambazuka.

ਪਰਗਟੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
pargat sabad hai sukh-daata an-din naam Dhi-aavani-aa. ||5||
The Giver of peace is revealed through the divine word of His praises and then that person always lovingly meditates on God’s Name
Mpaji wa amani anadhihirishwa kupitia neno takatifu la sifa zake na kisha mtu huyo daima anatafakari kwa upendo kuhusu Jina la Mungu.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
antar jot pargat paasaaraa.
The one whose mind is illuminated with the divine light, which radiates throughout the expanse,
Yule ambaye akili yake imeangazwa na mwanga takatifu, unaong’aa kupitia upanuzi wote.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥
gur saakhee miti-aa anDhi-aaraa.
through the Guru’s teachings, the darkness of ignorance is dispelled from his mind.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, giza ya ujinga inaondolewa kutoka kwa akili yake.

ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
kamal bigaas sadaa sukh paa-i-aa jotee jot milaavani-aa. ||6||
His heart blossoms like a lotus, and eternal peace is obtained, as one’s light merges into the Supreme Light.
Moyo wake unanawiri kama yumbiyumbi, na amani ya milele inapatikana, wakati mwanga wa mtu unaungana na Mwanga Takatifu.

ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਰਤਨੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
andar mahal ratnee bharay bhandaaraa.
The human body is like a treasure-house filled with precious divine virtues.
Mwili wa binadamu ni kama nyumba ya hazina iliyojazwa na fadhila takatifu yenye thamani.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
gurmukh paa-ay naam apaaraa.
The Guru’s follower who realizes the infinite Naam, obtains these divine virtues.
Mfuasi wa Guru anayegundua Naam isiyo na mwisho, anapata fadhila hizi takatifu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
gurmukh vanjay sadaa vaapaaree laahaa naam sad paavni-aa. ||7||
The Guru’s follower, always meditates solely on these precious divine virtues and always earns the wealth of God’s Name.
Mfuasi wa Guru, daima anatafakari tu kuhusu fadhila hizi takatifu na daima anachuma utajiri wa Jina la Mungu.

ਆਪੇ ਵਥੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ॥
aapay vath raakhai aapay day-ay.
God Himself enshrines this wealth of Naam in the hearts of the mortals, and He Himself makes them realize about it.
Mungu mwenyewe anaweka vizuri utajiri huu wa Naam mioyoni mwa binadamu, na Yeye mwenyewe anawafanya wagundue kuihusu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਣਜਹਿ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥
gurmukh vanjahi kay-ee kay-ay.
Following the Guru’s teachings many fortunate people earn the wealth of Naam.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru watu wengi wenye bahati nzuri wanachuma utajiri wa Naam.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੭॥੨੮॥
naanak jis nadar karay so paa-ay kar kirpaa man vasaavani-aa. ||8||27||28||
O’ Nanak, only the one upon whom God casts His glance of grace obtains this wealth of Naam. Showing His mercy, God enshrines His Name within one’s mind.
Ee Nanak, ni yule tu ambaye Mungu anampa mtazamo wa neema anapata utajiri huu wa Naam. Akionyesha huruma yake, Mungu anaweka vizuri jina lake ndani mwa akili ya mtu.

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

3. Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
har aapay maylay sayv karaa-ay.
God Himself leads us to merge with Him and remember Him.
Mungu mwenyewe anatuongoza kuungana naye na kumkumbuka.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabad bhaa-o doojaa jaa-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, the love of duality is eradicated.
Kupitia neno la Guru, upendo wa uwili unaangamizwa.

ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
har nirmal sadaa gundaataa har gun meh aap samaavani-aa. ||1||
The Immaculate God is the Bestower of eternal virtues. He Himself leads us to merge in His Virtues. ||1||
Mungu safi ndiye Mtawaza wa fadhila za milele. Yeye mwenyewe anatuongoza kuungana katika Fadhila zake. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਚਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree sach sachaa hirdai vasaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself, to those who enshrine the eternal God within their hearts.
Najiweka wakfu, kwa wale wanaothamini Mungu wa milele mioyoni mwao.

ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sachaa naam sadaa hai nirmal gur sabdee man vasaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Ever immaculate is the eternal Name of God, through the Guru’s word, they enshrine it in their minds.
Safi milele ni Jina la milele la Mungu, kupitia neno la Guru, wanalithamini akilini mwao.

ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥
aapay gur daataa karam biDhaataa.
God Himself is the Guru, and the Giver and the architect of human destiny.
Mungu mwenyewe ni Guru, na Mpaji na muasisi wa hatima za binadamu.

ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
sayvak sayveh gurmukh har jaataa.
The devotees, who by the Guru’s grace meditate upon Him, come to know Him.
Watawa, ambao kwa neema ya Guru wanatafakari kuhusu Mungu, wanakuja kumjua.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
amrit naam sadaa jan soheh gurmat har ras paavni-aa. ||2||
By meditating on the Ambrosial Naam, they look beautiful. Through the Guru’s teachings, they receive the sublime essence of God’s Name.
Kwa kutafakari Naam ya Ambrosia, wanakaa wazuri. Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, wanapokea kiini tukufu cha Jina la Mungu.

ਇਸੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਇਕੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
is gufaa meh ik thaan suhaa-i-aa. poorai gur ha-umai bharam chukaa-i-aa.
Within the cave of this body, there is one beautiful place. When ego and doubt are dispelled through the Guru, then God’s presence is revealed in the heart, which becomes a beautiful place in the body-cave.
Ndani mwa pango la mwili huu, kuna mahali moja mzuri.Wakati ubinafsi na shaka inaondolewa kupitia kwa Guru, basi uwepo wa Mungu unadhihirishwa moyoni, ambao unakuwa mahali mzuri katika mwili kama pango.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
an-din naam salaahan rang raatay gur kirpaa tay paavni-aa. ||3||
They who are imbued with God’s love and always sing His praises, by the Guru’s grace they unite with Him.
Wale ambao wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu na daima wanaimba sifa zake, kwa neema ya Guru wanaungana naye.
