ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maajh Raag, by the Third Guru:
Maajh Raag, na Guru wa Tatu:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪੜਹਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ॥
manmukh parheh pandit kahaaveh.
The self-conceited persons study the scriptures and are called Pandits-scholars.
Watu wenye majivuno binafsi wanajifunza maandishi na wanaitwa walimu wataalam wenye busara.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay mahaa dukh paavahi.
But they are in love with duality, and they suffer in terrible pain.
Lakini wanapendezwa na uwili, na wanateseka kwa uchungu uliokithiri.

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਤੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
bikhi-aa maatay kichh soojhai naahee fir fir joonee aavani-aa. ||1||
Engrossed in the poison of worldly wealth, they understand nothing about spiritual life and keep going in the cycle of birth and death.
Wakivama katika sumu ya utajiri wa kidunia, hawaelewi chochote kuhusu maisha ya kiroho na wanaendelea kuingia katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree ha-umai maar milaavani-aa.
I dedicate my life to those who subdue their ego and unite with God.
Naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwa wale wanaoshinda ubinafsi wao na kuungana na Mungu.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur sayvaa tay har man vasi-aa har ras sahj pee-aavni-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Because they follow Guru’s teachings, God comes to dwell in their mind and they intuitively relish the elixir of Naam.
Kwa sababu wanafuata mafundisho ya Guru, Mungu anakuja kuishi akilini mwao na kwa utaratibu wanafurahia dawa ya Naam.

ਵੇਦੁ ਪੜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਆਇਆ ॥
vayd parheh har ras nahee aa-i-aa.
The Pandits study the scriptures but do not obtain any divine joy.
Walimu wenye busara wanajifunza maandishi lakini hawapati furaha yoyote takatifu.

ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
vaad vakaaneh mohay maa-i-aa.
Allured by Maya they argue and debate.
Wakivutiwa na Maya wanagombezana na kujadilinana.

ਅਗਿਆਨਮਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
agi-aanmatee sadaa anDhi-aaraa gurmukh boojh har gaavani-aa. ||2||
The foolish intellectuals are forever in spiritual darkness. The Guru’s followers understand, and sing the Glorious Praises of God.
Wasomi wapumbavu daima wamo katika giza ya kiroho. Wafuasi wa Guru wanaelewa, na kuimba Sifa Tukufu za Mungu.

ਅਕਥੋ ਕਥੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੋ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
aktho kathee-ai sabad suhaavai. gurmatee man sacho bhaavai.
If we keep describing the praises of the indescribable God through the pleasing words of the Guru.Then, through the Guru’s Teachings, God becomes pleasing to the mind.
Iwapo tuendelee kueleza sifa za Mungu asiyeweza kuelezwa kupitia neno yanayopendeza ya Guru. Basi, kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, Mungu anapendeza akilini.

ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਰਵਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
sacho sach raveh din raatee ih man sach rangaavin-aa. ||3||
Those who always meditate on God’s Name, their minds remain imbued with the Truth (eternal God).
Wale ambao daima wanatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, akili zao zinabaki zimejawa na Ukweli (Mungu wa milele).

ਜੋ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਸਚੋ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
jo sach ratay tin sacho bhaavai.
Those who are attuned to Truth, love the Truth.
Wale ambao wamemakinikia Ukweli, wanapenda Ukweli.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਨ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥
aapay day-ay na pachhotaavai.
God Himself bestows this gift, and never regrets.
Mungu mwenyewe anatawaza tuzo hii, na kamwe hatubu.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਚੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
gur kai sabad sadaa sach jaataa mil sachay sukh paavni-aa. ||4||
Through the Guru’s word , they realize the eternal God. Uniting with Him, they always live in spiritual peace.
Kupitia neno la Guru, wanagundua Mungu wa milele. Wakiungana na Mungu, daima wanaishi katika amani ya kiroho.

ਕੂੜੁ ਕੁਸਤੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
koorh kusat tinaa mail na laagai.
The filth of fraud and falsehood does not stick to those,
Uchafu wa ulaghai na udanganyifu haukwami kwao,

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
gur parsaadee an-din jaagai.
who, by Guru’s Grace, always remain vigilant against the allurement of Maya.
Ambao, kwa neema ya Guru, daima wanabaki waangalifudhidi ya mvuto wa Maya.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
nirmal naam vasai ghat bheetar jotee jot milaavani-aa. ||5||
The Immaculate Naam, the Name of God, dwells deep within their hearts; their light (soul) merges into the Light (Primal Soul)
Naam safi, Jina la Mungu, inaishi ndani kwa kina mwa mioyo yao; na mwenga wao (roho) unaungana na Mwanga (Roho ya Kiasili)

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪੜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ॥
tarai gun parheh har tat na jaaneh.
Those who always study the scriptures motivated by the three modes of Maya, remain deprived of the essential reality of God.
Wale ambao daima wanajifunza maandishi wakichochewa na mbinu tatu za Maya, wanabaki wamenyimwa uhalisia muhimu wa Mungu.

ਮੂਲਹੁ ਭੁਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ॥
moolhu bhulay gur sabad na pachhaaneh.
They have gone astray from the very fundamentals, and they do not understand the true meaning of the Guru’s word.
Wamepotoka kutoka misingi yenyewe, na hawaelewi maana halisi ya neno la Guru.

ਮੋਹ ਬਿਆਪੇ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
moh bi-aapay kichh soojhai naahee gur sabdee har paavni-aa. ||6||
Engrossed in love of worldly wealth, they do not understand that God can be realized only through the Guru’s teachings .
Wakivama katika upendo wa utajiri wa kidunia, hawaelewi ya kwamba Mungu anaweza kugunduliwa tu kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਵੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
vayd pukaarai taribaDh maa-i-aa.
The pundit who reads Vedas loudly, but he himself remains under the influence of three modes of Maya.
Pundit (msomi mtaalam wa kihindu) anayesoma Vedas kwa sauti ya juu, lakini yeye mwenyewe yumo katika ushawishi wa mbinu tatu za Maya.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
manmukh na boojheh doojai bhaa-i-aa.
The self-willed manmukh, in love with duality, do not understand spirituality.
Manmukh mwenye hiari binafsi, anayependa Maya, haelewi maisha ya kiroho.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਪੜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
tarai gun parheh har ayk na jaaneh bin boojhay dukh paavni-aa. ||7||
Motivated by the three traits of Maya, they read the scriptures but do not realize God, and without realizing Him they suffer in misery.
Wakichochewa na mbinu tatu za Maya, wanasoma maandishi lakini hawamgundui Mungu, na bila kumgundua Mungu wanateseka na taabu.

ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jaa tis bhaavai taa aap milaa-ay.
When it pleases God, He unites us with Himself.
Wakati inapendeza Mungu, Yeye anatuunganisha naye mwenyewe.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
gur sabdee sahsaa dookh chukaa-ay.
Through the Guru’s word, skepticism and suffering are dispelled.
Kupitia neno la Guru, shaka na mateso yanaondolewa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੀ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩੦॥੩੧॥
naanak naavai kee sachee vadi-aa-ee naamo man sukh paavni-aa. ||8||30||31||
O’ Nanak, eternal is the glory of Naam. Believing in Naam, peace is obtained.
Ee Nanak, wa milele ni utukufu wa Naam. Kwa kusadiki Naam, amani inapatikana.

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
Raag Maajh, na Guru wa Tatu:

ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੋਈ ॥
nirgun sargun aapay so-ee.
God Himself is the one without any attribute, and He Himself is the one with all the attributes.
Mungu mwenyewe ndiye asiye na sifa yoyote, na Yeye mwenyewe ndiye ana sifa zote.

ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
tat pachhaanai so pandit ho-ee.
One who understand this essential reality becomes a the true Pandits.
Yule anayeelewa uhalisia huu muhimu anakuwa Pandit wa kweli.

ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
aap tarai saglay kul taarai har naam man vasaavani-aa. ||1||
He saves himself and all his lineage by enshrining God’s Name in his mind.
Anajikomboa pamoja na ukoo wako kwa kuthamini Jina la Mungu akilini mwake.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਖਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree har ras chakh saad paavni-aa.
I dedicate my life to those who upon relishing the elixir of Naam, enjoy bliss.
Naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwa wale ambao kwa kufurahia dawa ya Naam, wanafurahia raha tele.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har ras chaakhahi say jan nirmal nirmal naam Dhi-aavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
They who relish the elixir of Naam are the immaculate beings. They alwaysmeditate on the immaculate God with loving devotion.
Wale wanaofurahia dawa ya Naam ni viumbe safi. Daima wanatafakari kuhusu Mungu safi kwa kujitolea kwa upendo.

ਸੋ ਨਿਹਕਰਮੀ ਜੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
so nihkarmee jo sabad beechaaray.
The person who reflects upon the holy word of the Guru, does deeds without any selfish motive.
Yule mtu anayetafakari kuhusu neno takatifu la Guru, anatenda vitendo bila nia binafsi.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
antar tat gi-aan ha-umai maaray.
Within him is the essence of divine wisdom, by which he destroys his ego.
Ndani mwake kuna kiini cha hekima takatifu, ambayo anatumia kuangamiza ubinafsi wake.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
naam padaarath na-o niDh paa-ay tarai gun mayt samaavani-aa. ||2||
He obtains the precious Naam, which is as valuable as the nine treasures of the world. Rising above the three traits of Maya, he merges with God.
Anapata Naam yenye thamana, ambayo ina thamani kama hazina tisa za dunia. Akiinuka juu ya mbinu tatu za Maya, anaungana na Mungu.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮੀ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
ha-umai karai nihkarmee na hovai.
The one who indulges in ego can never do anything without selfish motive.
Yule anayeshughulisha kwa ubinafsi kamwe hawezi kufanya chochote bila nia binafsi.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
gur parsaadee ha-umai khovai.
It is only by Guru’s Grace that one gets rid of ego.
Ni kwa Neema ya Guru pekee ambapo mtu anaondoa ubinafsi.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਆਪੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
antar bibayk sadaa aap veechaaray gur sabdee gun gaavani-aa. ||3||
He develops the sense of differentiating good from bad. He always reflects upon the self, and through Guru’s teachings he keep singing the praises of God.
Anaendeleza hisi ya kutofautisha mzuri kutoka mbaya. Daima anatafakari kuhusu nafsi yake, na kupitia mafundisho ya Guru anaendelea kuimba sifa za Mungu.

ਹਰਿ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
har sar saagar nirmal so-ee.
God is like a vast immaculate ocean full of virtues.
Mungu ni kama bahari pana safi iliyojaa fadhila.

ਸੰਤ ਚੁਗਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
sant chugeh nit gurmukh ho-ee.
Following the Guru’s teachings, the holy people keep acquiring these virtues.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, watu watakatifu wanaendelea kupokea fadhila hizo.

ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
isnaan karahi sadaa din raatee ha-umai mail chukaavani-aa. ||4||
These saintly people always remain immersed in this immaculate ocean of Naam and wash away the filth of ego.
Watu hao watakatifu daima wanabaki wamevama katika bahati hii safi ya Naam na wanasafisha uchafu wa ubinafsi.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੰਸਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
nirmal hansaa paraym pi-aar.
He, who is always absorbed in love and devotion for God, is like a pure swan.
Yeye, ambaye daima amevama katika upendo na kujitolea kwa Mungu, ni kama bata-maji safi.

ਹਰਿ ਸਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
har sar vasai ha-umai maar.
Who, shedding his ego, dwells in the divine pool of Naam.
Ambaye, kwa kuondoa ubinafsi wake, anaishi katika kidimbwi takatifu cha Naam.
