ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਘਰੀ ਬਹਾਲਿਅਨੁ ॥
har bhagtaa no day-ay anand thir gharee bahaali-an.
God bestows bliss upon the devotees, and blesses them with eternal peace.
Mungu hutawaza furaha tele kwa wafuasi, na kuwabariki na amani ya milele.

ਪਾਪੀਆ ਨੋ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹਣਿ ਚੁਣਿ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰਿ ਚਾਲਿਅਨੁ ॥
paapee-aa no na day-ee thir rahan chun narak ghor chaali-an.
But He does not let the sinners live in peace and subjects them to extreme suffering.
Lakini Yeye haachi watenda dhambi waishi katika amani na kuwatiisha kwa kuteseka kuliokithiri.

ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਅੰਗੁ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥੧੯॥
har bhagtaa no day-ay pi-aar kar ang nistaari-an. ||19||
By blessing His devotees with His love and rendering them His support, God saves them from evils.
Kwa kubariki wafuasi wake kwa upendo wake na kuwapa msaada yake, Mungu anawakomboa kutoka maovu.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥

ਕੁਬੁਧਿ ਡੂਮਣੀ ਕੁਦਇਆ ਕਸਾਇਣਿ ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਘਟ ਚੂਹੜੀ ਮੁਠੀ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਚੰਡਾਲਿ ॥
kubuDh doomnee kud-i-aa kasaa-in par nindaa ghat choohrhee muthee kroDh chandaal.
Evil intent, cruelty, habit of slandering others, and anger are the vices which pollute the mind
Nia mbaya, ukatili, tabia ya kungumza kashfa kuhusu wengine, na hasira ni maovu ambayo yanachafua akili.

ਕਾਰੀ ਕਢੀ ਕਿਆ ਥੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੈਠੀਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
kaaree kadhee ki-aa thee-ai jaaN chaaray baithee-aa naal.
When these four vices are in the mind, then what good are the ceremonial lines drawn around the cooking area.
Wakati maovu haya nne yamo akilini, basi yenye manufaa gani ni mistari taratibu inayochorwa kuzunguka eneo la kupika.

ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਨਾਉ ਜਪੇਹੀ ॥
sach sanjam karnee kaaraaN naavan naa-o japayhee.
They who make truth, self discipline and good deeds as the sacred lines and make meditation on God’s Name with love and devotion as the holy bath.
Wale wanaofanya ukweli, nidhamu binafsi na vitendo vizuri kuwa mistari yao takatifu na wanafanya kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea kama kuoga takatifu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਗੈ ਊਤਮ ਸੇਈ ਜਿ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਪੰਦਿ ਨ ਦੇਹੀ ॥੧॥
naanak agai ootam say-ee je paapaaN pand na dayhee. ||1||
O’ Nanak, those who do not teach sinfulness to others, are considered exalted in God’s Court.
Ee Nanak, wale ambao hawafunzi wengine kutenda dhambi, wanafikiriwa kuwa wameinuliwa katika Mahakama ya Mungu.

ਮਃ ੧ ॥

By the First Guru:
Na Guru wa Kwanza:

ਕਿਆ ਹੰਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਬਗੁਲਾ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
ki-aa hans ki-aa bagulaa jaa ka-o nadar karay-i.
Whether one is a swan (saint) or a crane (hypocrite), God may cast His Glance of Grace on anyone He chooses.
Ikiwa mtu ni bata-maji (mtakatifu) ama korongo (mnafiki), Mungu anaweza kutupa Mtazamo wake wa Neema kwa yeyote anayechagua.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਾਗਹੁ ਹੰਸੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੨॥
jo tis bhaavai naankaa kaagahu hans karay-i. ||2||
O’ Nanak, if God so wishes, He turns even a sinner into a saint.
Ee Nanak, iwapo Mungu atapenda, atabadilisha hata mtenda dhambi awe mtakatifu.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜੀਐ ਕੰਮੁ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਖੀਐ ॥
keetaa lorhee-ai kamm so har peh aakhee-ai.
Whatever work you wish to accomplish, pray to God.
Kazi yoyote ambayo ungependa kufanikisha, sali kwa Mungu.

ਕਾਰਜੁ ਦੇਇ ਸਵਾਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਖੀਐ ॥
kaaraj day-ay savaar satgur sach saakhee-ai.
He will resolve your affairs; the True Guru gives His Guarantee of Truth.
Yeye atatatua shughuli zako, Guru wa Kweli anatoa Uhakikisho wake wa Ukweli.

ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੀਐ ॥
santaa sang niDhaan amrit chaakhee-ai.
The treasure of Naam and the taste of the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name is obtained in the holy congregation.
Hazina ya Naam na kionjo cha nekta ya ambrosia ya Jina la Mungu kinapatikana katika ushirika takatifu.

ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਖੀਐ ॥
bhai bhanjan miharvaan daas kee raakhee-ai.
O’ merciful God, the destroyer of fear, please protect the honor of Your servant.
Ee Mungu mwenye huruma, mwangamizi wa uoga, tafadhali hifadhi heshima ya mtumishi wako.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਲਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਖੀਐ ॥੨੦॥
naanak har gun gaa-ay alakh parabh laakhee-ai. ||20||
O’ Nanak, by singing His praises, we can comprehend the incomprehensible God.
Ee Nanak, kwa kuimba sifa zake, tunaweza kuelewa Mungu asiyeeleweka.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

Shalok, na Guru wa Tatu:

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੈ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
jee-o pind sabh tis kaa sabhsai day-ay aDhaar.
Body and soul, all belong to Him. He gives His Support to all.
Mwili na roho, yote ni umiliki wake. Anatoa msaada wake kwa yote.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
naanak gurmukh sayvee-ai sadaa sadaa daataar.
O’ Nanak, through the teachings of the Guru we should always remember that benefactor with loving devotion.
Ee Nanak, kupitia mafundisho ya Guru tunapaswa kumkumbuka mfadhili huyo daima kwa kujitolea kwa upendo.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
ha-o balihaaree tin ka-o jin Dhi-aa-i-aa har nirankaar.
I dedicate myself to those who have remembered God with love and devotion.
Najiweka wakfu kwa wale ambao wamemkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea.

ਓਨਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਉਜਲੇ ਓਨਾ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
onaa kay mukh sad ujlay onaa no sabh jagat karay namaskaar. ||1||
They are forever blissfully delighted, and they are respected everywhere.
Milele wamo na furaha tele, na wanaheshimika kote.

Na Guru wa Tatu:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਖਰਚਿਉ ਖਾਉ ॥
satgur mili-ai ultee bha-ee nav niDh kharchi-o khaa-o.
On meeting the true Guru, one’s intellect is totally transformed, seeking God’s love, one feels as if one has obtained all the wealth he could ever need.
Baada ya kukutana na Guru wa kweli, akili ya mtu inabadilishwa kabisa, kutafuta upendo wa Mungu, mtu anahisi ni kama amepata utajiri wote ambayo angewahi kuhitaji.

ਅਠਾਰਹ ਸਿਧੀ ਪਿਛੈ ਲਗੀਆ ਫਿਰਨਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਇ ॥
athaarah siDhee pichhai lagee-aa firan nij ghar vasai nij thaa-ay.
The Siddhis-eighteen supernatural powers are at one’s beck and call (but this person does not care for these), and always remains stable in the mind.
Nguvu kumi na nane za Siddhis zisizo za kawaida zinaweza kufikiwa na mtu huyo kwa uharisi (lakini mtu huyu hajali kuhusu hizi), na daima nabaki thabiti akilini mwake.

ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਸਦ ਵਜਦੇ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
anhad Dhunee sad vajday unman har liv laa-ay.
Imperceptibly, the unstruck melody of God’s praises constantly vibrates within, and in an exalted state his mind remains attuned to God.
Kwa njia isiyofahamika, melodia isiyofananishwa ya sifa za Mungu daima inatetema ndani mwake, na katika hali iliyoinuliwa akili yake inabaki imemakinikia Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਜਿਨ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
naanak har bhagat tinaa kai man vasai jin mastak likhi-aa Dhur paa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, such true devotion to God dwells within the mind of those who have such pre-ordained destiny.
Ee Nanak, ibada halisi kama hiyo kwa Mungu inaishi akilini mwa wale ambao wana hatima iliyoagiziwa mapema kama hiyo.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
ha-o dhaadhee har parabh khasam kaa har kai dar aa-i-aa.
I, a humble bard of God,came to God’s door-step.
Mimi, mshairi mnyenyekevu wa Mungu, naja mlangoni pa Mungu.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸੁਣੀ ਪੂਕਾਰ ਢਾਢੀ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
har andar sunee pookaar dhaadhee mukh laa-i-aa.
God listened to my Supplication and called me into His presence.
Mungu alisikiza Dua langu na kuniita katika uwepo wake.

ਹਰਿ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਢਾਢੀ ਸਦਿ ਕੈ ਕਿਤੁ ਅਰਥਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ॥
har puchhi-aa dhaadhee sad kai kit arath tooN aa-i-aa.
Then God asked me, for what purpose have you come here?
Kisha Mungu akaniuliza, kusudi gani limekuleta hapa?

ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
nit dayvhu daan da-i-aal parabh har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa.
“O Merciful God, please grant me the gift of continual meditation on Your Name.
“Ee Mungu mwenye huruma, tafadhali niruzuku tuzo ya kutafakari bila mwisho Jina lako”

ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪੈਨਾਇਆ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ
har daatai har naam japaa-i-aa naanak painaa-i-aa. ||21||1|| suDhu
God inspired me (Nanak) to recite His Name and also blessed me with honor.
Mungu alinihamasisha (Nanak) kukariri Jina lake na akanibariki na heshima.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God. realized by the grace of the True Guru.

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕਾ ॥ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਣਾ

ਜਨਨੀ ਜਾਨਤ ਸੁਤੁ ਬਡਾ ਹੋਤੁ ਹੈ ਇਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿ ਦਿਨ ਦਿਨ ਅਵਧ ਘਟਤੁ ਹੈ ॥
jannee jaanat sut badaa hot hai itnaa ko na jaanai je din din avaDh ghatat hai.
The mother thinks that her son is growing up; she does not understand that, day by day, his life is diminishing. (his remaining life span is decreasing)
Mama anafikiria ya kwamba mwana wake anakua; haelewi ya kuwa, siku baada ya siku, uhai wake unapungua.

ਮੋਰ ਮੋਰ ਕਰਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਲਾਡੁ ਧਰਿ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਜਮਰਾਉ ਹਸੈ ॥੧॥
mor mor kar aDhik laad Dhar paykhat hee jamraa-o hasai. ||1||
She loves and fondles him a great deal saying that he is mine forever. However, watching this, the demon of death laughs at her folly.
Anampenda na kumkumbatia mno akisema yeye ni wangu milele. Hata hivyo, akitazama hii, pepo wa kifo anachekelea upuzi wake.
