ਸਰਬੇ ਥਾਈ ਏਕੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ॥
sarbay thaa-ee ayk tooN ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh.
O’ God, it is You only pervading everywhere. Please save us as it pleases You.
Ee Mungu, ni Wewe pekee unayeenea kote. Tafadhali tukomboe inavyokupendeza.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਲੋ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਖੁ ॥
gurmat saachaa man vasai naam bhalo pat saakh.
Through the Guru’s Teachings, God’s Name abides within the mind.Naam is the true companion, Naam is the true honor.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, Jina la Mungu linaishi akilini. Naam ni mwendani wa kweli, Naam ni heshima ya kweli.

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚੁ ਭਾਖੁ ॥੮॥
ha-umai rog gavaa-ee-ai sabad sachai sach bhaakh. ||8||
By reciting Guru’s true word, the malady of ego is eradicated.
Kwa kukariri neno la kweli la Guru, ugonjwa wa ubinafsi unaangamizwa.

ਆਕਾਸੀ ਪਾਤਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
aakaasee paataal tooN taribhavan rahi-aa samaa-ay.
O’ God, You are pervading everywhere – in skies, in nether regions and all the three worlds.
Ee Mungu, unaenea kote – angani, katika maeneo ya chini na katika dunia zote tatu.

ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਾਉ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
aapay bhagtee bhaa-o tooN aapay mileh milaa-ay.
You, Yourself bless people with Your love and devotion, on Your own You unite them with Yourself.
Wewe, mwenyewe unabariki watu kwa upendo na ibada yako, kwa hiari yako unawaunganisha na Wewe.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੯॥੧੩॥
naanak naam na veesrai ji-o bhaavai tivai rajaa-ay. ||9||13||
O Nanak, may I never forget the Naam! As is Your Pleasure, so is Your Will.
Ee Nanak, naomba nisiwahi kusahau Naam! Kama ilvyo raha yako, ndivyo ilivyo Wasia wako.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿ ਕਰੀ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
raam naam man bayDhi-aa avar ke karee veechaar.
My mind is completely imbued with the love of God, what more I need to reflect upon?
Akili yangu imejawa kabisa na upendo wa Mungu, ni kipi zaidi nahitaji kutafakari kukihusu?

ਸਬਦ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਤਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
sabad surat sukh oopjai parabh raata-o sukh saar.
When awareness is attuned to the Divine Word, a state of bliss is experienced. Imbued with the love of God, one enjoys the essence of all pleasures.
Wakati ufahamu unamakinikia Neno Takatifu, hali ya furaha tele inahisiwa. Akijawa na upendo wa Mungu, mtu anafurahia kiini cha raha yote.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh tooN mai har naam aDhaar. ||1||
O’ God, save me as it pleases You, but let Your Name be my Support.
Ee Mungu, niokoe inavyokupendeza, lakini acha jina lako liwe Nguzo yangu.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
man ray saachee khasam rajaa-ay.
O’ my mind, true is the Will of our Master (God).
Ee akili yangu, wa kweli ni Wasia wa Bwana (Mungu) wetu.

ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin tan man saaj seegaari-aa tis saytee liv laa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Focus your love upon the One who created and adorned your body and mind.
Makinisha upendo wako kwa yule Mmoja aliyeumba na kupamba mwili na akili yako.

ਤਨੁ ਬੈਸੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਮੀਐ ਇਕ ਰਤੀ ਤੋਲਿ ਕਟਾਇ ॥
tan baisantar homee-ai ik ratee tol kataa-ay.
If I cut my body into tiny pieces and offer them in a sacrificial fire,
Iwapo nikate mwili wangu uwe sehemu ndogo ndogo na kuitoa kwa moto wa dhabihu.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਧਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥
tan man samDhaa jay karee an-din agan jalaa-ay.
and if I make my mind and body as ritual firewood and burn it daily,
na iwapo nifanye mwili na akili yangu kama kuni ya mila na kuichoma kila siku,

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਪੁਜਈ ਜੇ ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
har naamai tul na puj-ee jay lakh kotee karam kamaa-ay. ||2||
and even if I performs millions of such ritual acts, still all these do not equal the virtues of remembering God with love and devotion.
Na hata nikifanya mamilioni ya vitendo vya mila kama hivyo, bado havina usawa na fadhila za kumkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea.

ਅਰਧ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕਟਾਈਐ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਵਤੁ ਧਰਾਇ ॥
araDh sareer kataa-ee-ai sir karvat Dharaa-ay.
One may have a saw put on the head and have one’s body cut into two pieces,
Mtu anaweza kufanya msumeno uwekwe kichwani pake na aache mwili wake ukatwe uwe vipande viwili,

ਤਨੁ ਹੈਮੰਚਲਿ ਗਾਲੀਐ ਭੀ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tan haimanchal gaalee-ai bhee man tay rog na jaa-ay.
and one may let one’s body be frozen, even then the mind would not be free of vices.
Na mtu anaweza kuacha mwili wake ugandishwe, hata wakati huo akili haitakuwa huru kutoka dhambi.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਪੁਜਈ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
har naamai tul na puj-ee sabh dithee thok vajaa-ay. ||3||
I have seen, and confirmed that none of these ritualistic deeds equal loving devotion to God.
Nimeona, na kuthibitisha ya kwamba hakuna mojawapo ya vitendo hivi vya kimila ambacho kina usawa na kujitolea kwa upendo kwa Mungu.

ਕੰਚਨ ਕੇ ਕੋਟ ਦਤੁ ਕਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
kanchan kay kot dat karee baho haivar gaivar daan.
Even if I donate my worldly possessions, (like gold, horses and elephants),
Hata iwapo nitoe kwa hisani mali yangu ya kidunia, (kama dhahabu, farasi na tembo),

ਭੂਮਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਗਊਆ ਘਣੀ ਭੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਰਬੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥
bhoom daan ga-oo-aa ghanee bhee antar garab gumaan.
and donate all other possessions (land and cows), still my pride and ego wouldbe within me.
Na kutoa kwa hisani mali mengine yote (ardhi na ng’ombe). Bado kiburi changu na ubinafsi utakuwa ndani mwangu.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥
raam naam man bayDhi-aa gur dee-aa sach daan. ||4||
My Guru has given me this true gift that my mind has been completely imbued with the love of God.
Guru wangu amenipa tuzo hii ya kweli ya kwamba akili yangu imejawa kabisa na upendo wa mungu.

ਮਨਹਠ ਬੁਧੀ ਕੇਤੀਆ ਕੇਤੇ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
manhath buDhee kaytee-aa kaytay bayd beechaar.
Many people advocate rigid discipline of the mind and many who contemplate on holy books like the Vedas.
Watu wengi wanatetea nidhamu ngumu ya akili na wengi wanatafakari vitabu vitakatifu kama Vedas.

ਕੇਤੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
kaytay banDhan jee-a kay gurmukh mokh du-aar.
There are so many other entanglement for the soul. But freedom from the vices is obtained only by following the Guru’s teachings.
Kuna misongamano nyingi ya roho. Lakini uhuru kutoka dhambi inapatwa tu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਸਚਹੁ ਓਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਉਪਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
sachahu orai sabh ko upar sach aachaar. ||5||
Truth is higher than everything; but higher still is truthful living.
Ukweli upo juu zaidi kuliko kila kitu; lakini kuishi kikweli kupo juu zaidi.

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਊਚਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਨੀਚੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabh ko oochaa aakhee-ai neech na deesai ko-ay.
Call everyone exalted; no one seems lowly,
Ita mtu kuwa aliyeinuliwa; hakuna mtu anaonekana kuwa duni.

ਇਕਨੈ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਸਾਜਿਐ ਇਕੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਇ ॥
iknai bhaaNday saaji-ai ik chaanan tihu lo-ay.
because God Himself has fashioned all the humans, and One Light is pervading in all the three worlds.
Kwa sababu Mungu mwenyewe ametengeneza binadamu wote, na Mwanga Mmoja unaoenea katika dunia zote tatu.

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਧੁਰਿ ਬਖਸ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੬॥
karam milai sach paa-ee-ai Dhur bakhas na maytai ko-ay. ||6||
It is through Divine grace alone that this Truth is realized, nobody can take away this preordained blessing.
Ni kupitia neema takatifu pekee ambapo Ukweli unagunduliwa, hakuna mtu anaweza kunyakua baraka iliyoagiziwa mapema.

ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨੈ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵਸੈ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
saaDh milai saaDhoo janai santokh vasai gur bhaa-ay.
When a saint meets a saint, then love for the Guru brings contentment to the mind.
Wakati mtakatifu anakutana na mtakatifu mwengine, basi upendo kwa Guru unaleta kutoshelezwa akilini.

ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
akath kathaa veechaaree-ai jay satgur maahi samaa-ay.
When one is fully immersed in the teachings of the true Guru, only then one can reflect upon the infinite virtues of God.
Wakati mtu amezama kabisa katika mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, wakati huo tu ndio mtu anaweza kutafakari kuhusu fadhila za Mungu zisizo na mwisho.

ਪੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖਿਆ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
pee amrit santokhi-aa dargahi paiDhaa jaa-ay. ||7||
By reciting the praises of God, one is fully satiated in God’s love and goes with honor to His court.
Kwa kukariri sifa za Mungu, mtu anatoshelezwa kabisa katika upendo wa Mungu na anaenda na heshima mahakamani pake.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਜੈ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
ghat ghat vaajai kinguree an-din sabad subhaa-ay.
Through Guru’s word when one is always attuned to God, then one realizes that Divine music is playing in each and every heart.
Kupitia neno la Guru wakati mtu amemakinikia Mungu, basi mtu anagundua ya kwamba muziki takatifu inacheza katika kila moyo.

ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇ ॥
virlay ka-o sojhee pa-ee gurmukh man samjhaa-ay.
But this understanding comes only to a few, who mold their mind through Guru’s teachings.
Lakini uelewa huu unajia wachache pekee, wanaofinyanga akili yao kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਛੂਟੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੧੪॥
naanak naam na veesrai chhootai sabad kamaa-ay. ||8||14||
O’ Nanak, they never forsake Naam and by living according to Guru’s teachings, they are liberated from the vices.
Ee Nanak, kamwe hawaachi Naam na kwa kuishi kulingana na mafundisho ya Guru, wanakombolewa kutoka dhambi.

ਚਿਤੇ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਧਉਲਹਰ ਬਗੇ ਬੰਕ ਦੁਆਰ ॥
chitay diseh Dha-ulhar bagay bank du-aar.
O’ mind, these mansions decorated with murals and strong white doors, look beautiful.
Ee akili yangu, majumba haya yaliyopambwa kwa michoro na milango nyeupe thabiti, yanakaa mazuri.

ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਖੁਸੀ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
kar man khusee usaari-aa doojai hayt pi-aar.
These have been built for pleasing the mind and out of love for worldly riches rather than love for God.
Haya yamejengwa kwa kufurahisha akili na kutokana na upendo kwa utajiri wa kidunia sio kutokana na upendo kwa Mungu.

ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਤਨੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
andar khaalee paraym bin dheh dhayree tan chhaar. ||1||
But if the mind is without the love for God, then one day all these mansions and the body will crumble down into heaps of dust.
Lakini iwapo akili ipo bila upendo kwa Mungu, basi siku moja majumba haya yote na mwili utabomoka ukue lundo ya mchanga.

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray tan Dhan saath na ho-ay.
O’ brother, this body and wealth shall not go along while leaving this world.
Ee ndugu, mwili huu na utajiri hautaenda nawe unaoondoka dunia hii.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam naam Dhan nirmalo gur daat karay parabh so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God’s Name is the purest wealth; (which will accompany you after death) and only God bestows this gift through the Guru.
Jina la Mungu ni utajiri safi kabisa; (ambao utaambatana nawe baada ya kifo) na Mungu pekee anatawaza tuzo hii kupitia Guru.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਜੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
raam naam Dhan nirmalo jay dayvai dayvanhaar.
The wealth of God’s Name is immaculate, but one receives only if God Himself bestows.
Utajiri wa Jina la Mungu ni mweupe kabisa, lakini mtu anapokea iwapo tu Mungu mwenyewe anatawaza.

ਆਗੈ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
aagai poochh na hova-ee jis baylee gur kartaar.
One who is blessed with God’s Name, shall not be questioned after departing from this world.
Yule ambaye amebarikiwa na Jina la Mungu, hatahijiwa atakapoondoka kutoka dunia hii.

ਆਪਿ ਛਡਾਏ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
aap chhadaa-ay chhutee-ai aapay bakhsanhaar. ||2||
But only if God Himself saves us (from our worldly attachments), we are saved. Because God Himself is the only One Who can forgive all our sins.
Lakini kama tu Mungu mwenyewe atatukomboa (kutoka viambatisho vya kidunia), tunakombolewa. Kwa sababu Mungu mwenyewe ndiye yule Mmoja wa pekee ambaye anaweza kusamehe dhambi zetu zote.
