ਏ ਮਨ ਰੂੜ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇ ॥
ay man roorhHai rangulay tooN sachaa rang charhaa-ay.
O’ beauteous and joyful mind, imbue yourself with the true color of God’s love.
Ee akili nzuri na yenye furaha, kuwa na rangi ya kweli ya upendo wa Mungu.

ਰੂੜੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੇ ਰਪੈ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
roorhee banee jay rapai naa ih rang lahai na jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If the mind is imbued with the love of divine words of God’s praises, then the color of this love never fades. ||1||Pause||
Iwapo akili ina upendo wa maneno takatifu ya sifa za Mungu, basi rangi ya upendo huu kamwe haififii. ||1||Sitisha||

ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਮੈਲੇ ਅਤਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
ham neech mailay at abhimaanee doojai bhaa-ay vikaar.
Engrossed in vices and the love of worldly riches, we are evil minded and extremely egotistical persons of low character.
Tukivama katika maovu na upendo wa utajiri wa kidunia, sisi tuna nia mbaya na watu wenye ubinafsi uliokithiri wa silika mbaya.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਸਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੨॥
gur paaras mili-ai kanchan ho-ay nirmal jot apaar. ||2||
But upon meeting and following the Guru’s teachings, we become pure like gold, and the immaculate light of the infinite God illuminates our mind. ||2||
Lakini baada ya kukutana na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, tunakuwa safi kama dhahabu na mwanga safi wa Mungu asiye na mwisho unaangaza akili yetu.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਉ ॥
bin gur ko-ay na rangee-ai gur mili-ai rang charhaa-o.
Without following the Guru’s teachings no onecan be imbued with Naam; yes one gets imbued with the Naam only upon meeting the Guru.
Bila kufuata mafundisho ya Guru hakuna mtu anaweza kuwa na Naam; ndio mtu anapata Naam baada ya kukutana na Guru pekee.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੩॥
gur kai bhai bhaa-ay jo ratay siftee sach samaa-o. ||3||
Those who are imbued with the love of the Guru through his revered fear, they merge into God by singing His praises. ||3||
Wale ambao wamepenyezwa na upendo wa Guru kupitia uoga kwa heshima yake, wanaungana na Mungu kwa kuimba sifa zake.

ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhai bin laag na lag-ee naa man nirmal ho-ay.
Without the revered fear of God, the mind is not imbued with God’s love and without it the mind does not become immaculate.
Bila uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu, akili haipenyezwi na upendo wa Mungu na bila huo akili haikuwi safi.

ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਠਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੪॥
bin bhai karam kamaavnay jhoothay thaa-o na ko-ay. ||4||
By performing ritualistic acts without fear of God, one still remains false (sinful), and finds no place in God’s presence. ||4||
Kwa kufanya vitendo vya kimila bila hofu ya Mungu, mtu bado anabaki wa uongo (mwenye dhambi) na hapati nafasi katika uwepo wa Mungu.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸੁ ਰਪਸੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
jis no aapay rangay so rapsee satsangat milaa-ay.
That person alone would be imbued in God’s love whom God Himself imbues by uniting him with the holy congregation.
Mtu huyo pekee atapenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu ambaye Mungu Mwenyewe anampenyeza kwa kumuunganisha na ushirika mtakatifu.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੫॥
pooray gur tay satsangat oopjai sehjay sach subhaa-ay. ||5||
Holy congregation is blessed by the perfect Guru, through which one intuitively merges into the love of the eternal God. ||5||
Ushirika mtakatifu umebarikiwa na Guru kamili, ambao kuupitia mtu anaunganishwa katika upendo wa Mungu wa milele kisilika.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਭਿ ਐਸੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਸੁ ਢੋਰ ॥
bin sangtee sabh aisay raheh jaisay pas dhor.
Without the holy congregation, people remain like beasts and animals.
Bila ushirika mtakatifu, watu wanasalia kama hayawani na wanyama.

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਚੋਰ ॥੬॥
jiniH keetay tisai na jaananHee bin naavai sabh chor. ||6||
They do not realize the One who created them; so without Naam they all are like thieves. ||6||
Hawagundui yule Mmoja anayewaumba; basi bila Naam wao ni kama wezi.

ਇਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
ik gun vihaajheh a-ugan viknahi gur kai sahj subhaa-ay.
There are some, who acquire virtues and renounce their sins through the equipoise and good disposition blessed by the Guru.
Kuna wengine, wanaopata fadhila na kukana dhambi zao kupitia usawa na silika nzuri iliyobarikiwa na Guru.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਵੁਠਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੭॥
gur sayvaa tay naa-o paa-i-aa vuthaa andar aa-ay. ||7||
Through the Guru’s teachings they attain the Wealth of Naam and realize God dwelling in their hearts. ||7||
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru wanapata Utajiri wa Naam na kugundua Mungu anayeishi mioyoni mwao.

ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇ ॥
sabhnaa kaa daataa ayk hai sir DhanDhai laa-ay.
God alone is the benefactor of all; He assigns tasks to each and every person.
Mungu peke yake ndiye mfadhili wa wote; Yeye anateua kila mmoja kwa kazi.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੯॥੩੧॥
naanak naamay laa-ay savaari-an sabday la-ay milaa-ay. ||8||9||31||
O’ Nanak, God has embellished some by attaching them to meditation on Naam;and He has united them with Himself through the Guru’s word. ||8||9||31||
Ee Nanak, Mungu amepamba wengine kwa kuwaambatisha kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam; na Yeye amewaunganisha naye Mwenyewe kupitia neno la Guru.

ਸਭ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
sabh naavai no lochdee jis kirpaa karay so paa-ay.
The entire humanity longs for the wealth of Naam, but he alone receives it unto whom God bestows His Mercy.
Ubinadamu mzima unatamani utajiri wa Naam, lakini yeye pekee anaupokea ambaye Mungu anatawaza Huruma yake kwake.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੧॥
bin naavai sabh dukh hai sukh tis jis man vasaa-ay. ||1||
Without Naam everyone is in misery; he alone enjoys celestial peace in whose mind God enshrines Naam. ||1||
Bila Naam kila mtu anataabika; yeye pekee anafurahia amani ya kimbingu ambaye Mungu amethamini Naam akilini mwake.

ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
tooN bay-ant da-i-aal hai tayree sarnaa-ee.
O’ God, You are infinite and merciful; I have come to Your refuge.
Ee Mungu, Wewe huna mwisho na una huruma; nimekuja kwa kimbilio chako.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur pooray tay paa-ee-ai naamay vadi-aa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The wealth of Naam is received through the perfect Guru; both here and hereafter, honor is received through Naam. ||1||Pause||
Utajiri wa Naam unapokelewa kupitia Guru kamili; humu na akhera pia, staha inapokelewa kupitia Naam. ||1||Sitisha||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥
antar baahar ayk hai baho biDh sarisat upaa-ee.
God has created this universe in many different ways; it is the same God who dwells within all and outside everywhere.
Mungu ameumba ulimwengu huu kwa njia nyingi mno; ni Mungu huyo huyo anayeishi ndani mwa wote na nje kila mahali.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥
hukmay kaar karaa-idaa doojaa kis kahee-ai bhaa-ee. ||2||
O’ brother, it is according to His command that He makes people do their tasks; who else could we say as capable of doing this? ||2||
Ee ndugu, ni kulingana na amri yake ambapo Yeye anafanya watu wafanye kazi zao; tunaweza kusema nani mwengine ana uwezo wa kufanya hivi?

ਬੁਝਣਾ ਅਬੁਝਣਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਕੀਆ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥
bujh-naa abujh-naa tuDh kee-aa ih tayree sir kaar.
Knowledge and ignorance is Your making; You have control over these.
Maarifa na ujinga ni uumbaji wako; Wewe una udhibiti juu ya hayo.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥੩॥
iknHaa bakhsihi mayl laihi ik dargeh maar kadhay koorhi-aar. ||3||
Becoming gracious upon some, You unite them with Yourself; You deny Your presence to others who are false . ||3||
Ukiwa na neema kwa wengine, Wewe unawaunganisha nawe; unanyima uwepo wako kwa wengine wasio wa kweli.

ਇਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਵਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥
ik Dhur pavit paavan heh tuDh naamay laa-ay.
O’ God, there are some who are immaculate from the very beginning, whom You have attached to meditation on Your Name.
Ee Mungu, kuna wengine ambao ni safi kutoka mwanzoni kabisa, ambao umeambatisha kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina lako.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੪॥
gur sayvaa tay sukh oopjai sachai sabad bujhaa-ay. ||4||
They enjoy spiritual peace by following the Guru’s teachings; through his word of God’s praises the Guru makes them understand the righteous way of living. ||4||
Wanafurahia amani ya kiroho kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru; kupitia neno lake la sifa za Mungu Guru anawafanya waelewe njia ya uadilifu ya kuishi.

ਇਕਿ ਕੁਚਲ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਵਿਖਲੀ ਪਤੇ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ॥
ik kuchal kucheel vikhlee patay naavhu aap khu-aa-ay.
There are some who are crooked, vicious and immoral; God has Himself kept them away from Him.
Kuna wengine ambao ni potovu, katili na washerati; Mungu Mwenyewe anawazuia kutoka kwake.

ਨਾ ਓਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਨ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਉਤਵਤਾਏ ॥੫॥
naa on siDh na buDh hai na sanjmee fireh utvataa-ay. ||5||
They have not succeeded in life, they neither have intellect nor any discipline; they keep wandering around delirious. ||5||
Hawajafaulu maishani, hawana uwekevu wala nidhamu; wanaendelea kuzurura kwote katika mapayo.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਏ ॥
nadar karay jis aapnee tis no bhaavnee laa-ay.
The person upon whom God casts His glance of grace, in that person He creates faith for Him.
Mtu ambaye Mungu anampa mtazamo wake wa neema, katika mtu huyo anaumba imani kwake Yeye.

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਇਹ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੬॥
sat santokh ih sanjmee man nirmal sabad sunaa-ay. ||6||
He recites to him the divine word through the Guru, which makes his mind immaculate and he becomes a person of truth, contentment, and self-discipline. ||6||
Yeye anamkariria neno takatifu kupitia kwa Guru, linalofanya akili yake iwe safi naye anakuwa mtu wa ukweli, kutoshelezwa na nidhamu binafsi.

ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜਿ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੀਐ ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
laykhaa parh na pahoochee-ai kath kahnai ant na paa-ay.
By accounting God’s virtues, one cannot reach Him; by speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found.
Kwa kuhesabu fadhila za Mungu, hakuna mtu anaweza kumfikia; kwa kuzungumza na kuongea, kikomo chake hakiwezi kupatwa.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥
gur tay keemat paa-ee-ai sach sabad sojhee paa-ay. ||7||
God’s worth is understood through the Guru and understanding about God is also understood through the Guru’s teachings. ||7||
Thamani ya Mungu inaeleweka kupitia kwa Guru na uelewa kuhusu Mungu pia unaeleweka kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਸੋਧਿ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
ih man dayhee soDh tooN gur sabad veechaar.
Reform this mind and body of yours by contemplating the Guru’s word.
Rekebisha akili na mwili yako kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੩੨॥
naanak is dayhee vich naam niDhaan hai paa-ee-ai gur kai hayt apaar. ||8||10||32||
O Nanak, within this body is the treasure of Naam, which can be realized only through the unbounded love for the Guru. ||8||10||32||
Ee Nanak, ndani mwa mwili huu kuna hazina ya Naam, ambayo inaweza kugunduliwa tu kupitia upendo kwa Guru usio na mipaka.

ਸਚਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ॥
sach ratee-aa sohaaganee jinaa gur kai sabad seegaar.
The fortunate soul-brides, who have embellished their lives with the Guru’s word,are imbued with love of the eternal God.
Roho-bi harusi wenye bahati nzuri, ambao wamepamba maisha yao kwa neno la Guru wanapenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu wa milele.
