ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਾਦੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਾਈ ॥
aapai aap pachhaani-aa saad meethaa bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, when one starts examining his own spiritual life, then he starts enjoyingthe sweet taste of the nectar of Naam.
Ee ndugu, wakati mtu anaanza kuchunguza maisha yake ya kiroho, basi anaanza kufurahia kionjo kitamu cha nekta ya Naam.

ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਚਾਖਿਐ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸਾਚੋ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
har ras chaakhi-ai mukat bha-ay jinHaa saacho bhaa-ee. ||1||
Those to whom God seems pleasing, become free of the worldly attachments by parkaking the elixir of God’s Name.||1||
Wale ambao Mungu anaonekana kupendeza kwao, wanakuwa huru kutoka kwa viambatisho vya kidunia kwa kushiriki dawa ya Jina la Mungu.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
har jee-o nirmal nirmalaa nirmal man vaasaa.
God is absolutely immaculate and He dwells only in an immaculate mind.
Mungu ni safi kabisa na Yeye anaishi katika akili safi pekee.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmatee salaahee-ai bikhi-aa maahi udaasaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If we Praise God through the Guru’s teachings, then even while living in theworld, we can remain unaffected by Maya (worldly riches). ||1||Pause||
Iwapo tusifu Mungu kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, basi hata wakati tunaishi duniani, tunaweza kukosa kuathiriwa na Maya (utajiri wa kidunia). ||1||Sitisha||

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਸਭ ਅੰਧੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
bin sabdai aap na jaap-ee sabh anDhee bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, without the Guru’s word we cannot understand our own self; without it the entire world remains blind (ignorant) in the love for Maya.
Ee ndugu, bila neno la Guru hatuwezi kuelewa nafsi yetu wenyewe; bila hilo dunia nzima inabaki kipofu (mjinga) katika upendo wa Maya.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੨॥
gurmatee ghat chaannaa naam ant sakhaa-ee. ||2||
Through the Guru’s teachings, the heart is spiritually illuminated; God’s Name becomes our helper in the end. ||2||
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, moyo unaangazwa kiroho; Jina la Mungu linakuwa msaidizi wetu mwishowe.

ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
naamay hee naam varatday naamay vartaaraa.
The Guru’s followers always keep meditating on Naam; even while doing their worldly business they remain attuned to God’s Name.
Wafuasi wa Guru daima wanaendelea kutafakari kuhusu Naam; hata wakati wanafanya biashara zao za kidunia wanabaki wamemakinikia Jina la Mungu.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
antar naam mukh naam hai naamay sabad veechaaraa. ||3||
Naam is always there in their heart and they always recite Naam; they always deliberate on Naam through the Guru’s word. ||3||
Naam daima ipo moyoni mwao na daima wanakariri Naam; daima wanajadili kuhusu Naam kupitia neno la Guru.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
naam sunee-ai naam mannee-ai naamay vadi-aa-ee.
We should also listen Naam and believe Naam because it is through Naam that we obtain honor here and hereafter.
Tunapaswa pia kusikiliza Naam na kuamini Naam kwa sababu ni kupitia Naam ambapo tunapata staha humu na akhera.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥
naam salaahay sadaa sadaa naamay mahal paa-ee. ||4||
The person who always praises Naam, through Naam he realizes God’s presence in his heart. ||4||
Mtu ambaye daima anasifu Naam, kupitia Naam anagundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwake.

ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
naamay hee ghat chaannaa naamay sobhaa paa-ee.
It is through God’s Name that one’s heart is illuminated with divine knowledge and through Naam one receives honor everywhere.
Ni kupitia Jina la Mungu ambapo moyo wa mtu unaangazwa kwa maarifa takatifu na kupitia Naam ambapo mtu anapokea staha kila mahali.

ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੫॥
naamay hee sukh oopjai naamay sarnaa-ee. ||5||
Spiritual bliss is experienced through Naam, therefore we should always remain in God’s refuge. ||5||
Raha ya kiroho inapatwa kupitia Naam, hivyo basi tunapaswa kubaki katika kimbilio cha Mungu daima.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
bin naavai ko-ay na mannee-ai manmukh pat gavaa-ee.
Without meditating on Naam, no one is accepted in God’s presence; the self-willed persons lose their honor in God’s presence .
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam, hakuna mtu anayekubalika katika uwepo wa Mungu; watu wenye hiari binafsi wanapoteza staha yao katika uwepo wa Mungu.

ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੬॥
jam pur baaDhay maaree-ah birthaa janam gavaa-ee. ||6||
These self-willed people waste their human life in vain and are severely punished in the city of death (the world hereafter). ||6||
Watu hao wenye hiari binafsi wanaharibu maisha yao ya kibinadamu bure na wanaadhibiwa vikali katika mji wa kifo (dunia itakayofuata).

ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
naamai kee sabh sayvaa karai gurmukh naam bujhaa-ee.
All serve that person who meditates on God’s Name. But only the Guru blesses us the intellect to meditate on Naam.
Wote wanatumikia mtu huyo anayetafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu. Lakini Guru pekee anatubariki na uwekevu wa kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਨਾਮਹੁ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥
naamhu hee naam mannee-ai naamay vadi-aa-ee. ||7||
It is because of meditation on Naam that one becomes known and only through Naam one gets glory here and hereafter. ||7||
Ni kwa sababu ya kutafakari kuhusu Naam ambapo mtu anajulikana na kupitia Naam pekee ambapo mtu anapata utukufu humu na akhera.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
jis no dayvai tis milai gurmatee naam bujhaa-ee.
Only that person receives the gift of Naam to whom God Himself blesses it. Through the Guru’s teachings God makes that person understand Naam.
Mtu huyo pekee anapokea thawabu ya Naam ambaye Mungu Mwenyewe anabariki nayo. Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru Mungu anafanya mtu huyo aelewe Naam.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੭॥੨੯॥
naanak sabh kichh naavai kai vas hai poorai bhaag ko paa-ee. ||8||7||29||
O’ Nanak, everything is under the influence of Naam; by perfect destiny, only a rare one is blessed with Naam. ||8||7||29||
Ee Nanak, kila kitu kipo chini ya ushawishi wa Naam; kwa hatima hatima, mtu nadra pekee anabarikiwa na Naam.

ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
duhaaganee mahal na paa-inHee na jaanan pir kaa su-aa-o.
The unfortunate soul-brides can’t realize God’s presence in their heart, therefore they do not know the joy of union with their Husband-God.
Roho-bi harusi wasio na bahati hawawezi kugundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwao, hivyo basi hawajui furaha ya muungano na Mume-Mungu wao.

ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਨਾ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥
fikaa boleh naa niveh doojaa bhaa-o su-aa-o. ||1||
They speak harsh words and do not bow to Him; they enjoy the love of worldly pleasures, instead of God. ||1||
Wanazungumza maneno makali na hawasujudu Kwake; wanafurahia upendo wa raha za kidunia, badala ya Mungu.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
ih manoo-aa ki-o kar vas aavai.
How can this mind come under control?
Akili hii inawezaje kudhibitiwa?

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਠਾਕੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee thaakee-ai gi-aan matee ghar aavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By the Guru’s Grace, it can be stopped from going astray; instructed in spiritual wisdom of the Guru, it returns within itself. ||1||Pause||
Kwa Neema ya Guru, inaweza kukomeshwa kutoka kupotoka; ikielekezwa katika hekima ya kiroho ya Guru, inarudi ndani mwake. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਓਨੁ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sohaaganee aap savaaree-on laa-ay paraym pi-aar.
By imbuing them with His love and affection God has Himself embellished the fortunate soul-brides.
Kwa kuwapa Upendo mapenzi Yake Mungu Mwenyewe amepamba roho-bi harusi wenye bahati nzuri.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
satgur kai bhaanai chaldee-aa naamay sahj seegaar. ||2||
They always conduct their lives according to the true Guru’s will; intuitively meditating on Naam is the adornment of their spiritual life. ||2||
Daima wanaishi maisha yao kulingana na mapenzi ya Guru wa kweli; kutafakari kisilika kuhusu Naam ni pambo la maisha yao ya kiroho.

ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
sadaa raaveh pir aapnaa sachee sayj subhaa-ay.
They always enjoy the presence of their Husband-God in their heart which is always imbued with His love.
Daima wanafurahia uwepo wa Mume-Mungu wao moyoni mwao ambao daima umejawa na upendo Wake.

ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮੋਹੀਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥
pir kai paraym mohee-aa mil pareetam sukh paa-ay. ||3||
They are fascinated with the Love of their Husband-God; meeting their Beloved, they enjoy spiritual peace. ||3||
Wanavutiwa na Upendo wa Mume-Mungu wao; wakikutana na Mpendwa wao, wanafurahia amani ya kiroho.

ਗਿਆਨ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
gi-aan apaar seegaar hai sobhaavantee naar.
The soul-bride whose adornment is divine wisdom has infinite treasure of Naam;such a soul-bride is honorable.
Roho-bi harusi ambaye pambo lake ni hekima takatifu ana hazina ya Naam isiyo na mwisho; roho-bi harusi kama huyo anaheshimika.

ਸਾ ਸਭਰਾਈ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥
saa sabhraa-ee sundree pir kai hayt pi-aar. ||4||
Because of the love and affection of her Husband-God, she looks so beautiful as if she is the favorite queen of the Husband-God . ||4||
Kwa sababu ya upendo na mapenzi ya Mume-Mungu wake, anakaa vizuri kana kwamba yeye ni malkia kipenzi wa Mume-Mungu.

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਅਲਖਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
sohaaganee vich rang rakhi-on sachai alakh apaar.
The incomprehensible and infinite God Himself has imbued the hearts of the fortunate soul-brides with His love.
Mungu Mwenyewe asiyeeleweka na ambaye hana mwisho ameweka mioyoni mwa roho-bi harusi walio na bahati nzuri upendo wake.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੫॥
satgur sayvan aapnaa sachai bhaa-ay pi-aar. ||5||
Imbued with the love and affection of God, they keep serving their true Guru by following his teachings. ||5||
Wakijawa na upendo na mapenzi ya Mungu, wanaendelea kutumikia Guru wao wa kweli kwa kufuata mafundisho yake.

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਗਲਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
sohaaganee seegaar banaa-i-aa gun kaa gal haar.
The fortunate soul-brides have decked themselves with the necklace of virtues.
Roho-bi harusi wenye bahati nzuri wamejipamba na mkufu wa fadhila.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਵਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
paraym pirmal tan lavana antar ratan veechaar. ||6||
They apply the scent of God’s love on their bodies and enshrine within them the invaluable divine wisdom. ||6||
Wanapaka wanukato ya upendo wa Mungu kwenye miili yao na kuthamini ndanimwao hekima takatifu isiyokadirika.

ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਊਤਮਾ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhagat ratay say ootmaa jat pat sabday ho-ay.
Those who are imbued with devotional worship are the most exalted; higher spiritual status and honor is attained by reflecting on the Guru’s word.
Wale ambao wana ibada ya ujitoaji ndio waliotukuka zaidi; hadhi ya juu zaidi ya kiroho na staha inapatwa kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la guru.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥
bin naavai sabh neech jaat hai bistaa kaa keerhaa ho-ay. ||7||
All those, who are without God’s Name are of low spiritual status. In fact without Naam they are like worms living in filth. ||7||
Wale wote, ambao hawana Jina la Mungu ni wa hadhi ya chini ya kiroho. Kwa uhakika bila Naam wao ni kama minyoo katika uchafu.

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਦੀ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
ha-o ha-o kardee sabh firai bin sabdai ha-o na jaa-ay.
The entire humanity is wandering in self-conceit; the ego does not depart without reflecting on the Guru’s word.
Ubinadamu mzima unazurura katika majivuno binafsi; ubinafsi hauondoki bila kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਈ ਸਚੈ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੮॥੩੦॥
naanak naam ratay tin ha-umai ga-ee sachai rahay samaa-ay. ||8||8||30||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with Naam, their ego departs and they remain absorbed in remembering the eternal God. ||8||8||30||
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wana Naam, ubinafsi wao unaondoka na wanabaki wamevama katika kukumbuka Mungu wa milele.

ਸਚੇ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
sachay ratay say nirmalay sadaa sachee so-ay.
Those who are imbued with the love of the eternal God are immaculate, and everlasting is their reputation.
Wale ambao wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu wa milele ni safi kabisa, na sifa yao inadumu milele.

ਐਥੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਆਗੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
aithai ghar ghar jaapday aagai jug jug pargat ho-ay. ||1||
They are known in every house-hold while in this life and hereafter, they remain famous throughout the ages. ||1||
Wanajulikana katika kila boma wakati wanaishi maisha haya na akhera pia, wanabaki maarufu kupitia enzi zote.
