ਸਭ ਕਉ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ ॥
sabh ka-o taj ga-ay haaN.
have all departed from this world leaving behind that Maya.
Wote wameondoka kutoka dunia hii wakiacha Maya hiyo nyuma.

ਸੁਪਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥
supnaa ji-o bha-ay haaN.
Like a dream they have disappeared from the world stage.
Kama ndoto wamepotea kutoka kwa jukwaa la dunia.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਲਏ ॥੧॥
har naam jiniH la-ay. ||1||
Then why don’t you abandon the love for Maya and remember God’s Name. ||1||
Basi kwa nini usiache upendo wa Maya na ulikumbuke Jina la Mungu.

ਹਰਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਨ ਲਗੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
har taj an lagay haaN.
Those who forsake God and cling to Maya,
Wale wanaomwacha Mungu na kukwamilia Maya,

ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਭਗੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
janmeh mar bhagay haaN.
remain wandering in the cycles of birth and death.
Wanabaki wanazurura katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਿ ਲਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
har har jan lahay haaN.
But those who have realized God,
Lakini wale ambao wamemgundua Mungu,

ਜੀਵਤ ਸੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
jeevat say rahay haaN.
continue to live spiritually.
Wanaendelea kuishi kiroho.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੬੩॥੨੩੨॥
jisahi kirpaal ho-ay haaN. naanak bhagat so-ay. ||2||7||163||232||
O’ Nanak, one who is blessed with God’s mercy becomes His devotee. |2|7|163|232|
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye amebarikiwa na rehema ya Mungu anakuwa mtawa wake.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa kweli:

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਹਉ ਕਉਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਕੀ ॥
birthaa kaha-o ka-un si-o man kee.
To whom may I describe the sad state of human mind?
Naweza kuelezea nani hali inayosikitisha ya akili ya binadamu?

ਲੋਭਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਓ ਦਸ ਹੂ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਤ ਆਸਾ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਧਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
lobh garsi-o das hoo dis Dhaavat aasaa laagi-o Dhan kee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Engrossed in greed and obsessed with the hope of amassing worldly wealth, this mind is running around in all directions. ||1||Pause||
Ikivama katika tamaa na ashiki kwa tumaini la kukusanya utajiri wa kidunia, akili hii inazurura katika mielekeo yote. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸੁਖ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਤ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਤ ਜਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥
sukh kai hayt bahut dukh paavat sayv karat jan jan kee.
For the sake of worldly comforts, he suffers immense pain and lives in service to one person after the other.
Kwa ajili ya starehe za kidunia, anateseka uchungu mkali na kuishi katika huduma ya mtu mmoja baada ya mwengine.

ਦੁਆਰਹਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਸੁਆਨ ਜਿਉ ਡੋਲਤ ਨਹ ਸੁਧ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥
du-aareh du-aar su-aan ji-o dolat nah suDh raam bhajan kee. ||1||
He wanders from door to door like a dog and is not conscious about remembering God. ||1||
Anazurura kutoka lango hadi lango kama mbwa wala hafahamu kuhusu kumkumbuka Mungu.

ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਖੋਵਤ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਲੋਕ ਹਸਨ ਕੀ ॥
maanas janam akaarath khovat laaj na lok hasan kee.
He loses this human life in vain and is not even ashamed of other’s sarcasm.
Anapoteza maisha haya ya kibinadamu bure na hahisi aibu kwa kejeli ya watu wengine.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਤ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਤਨ ਕੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੩੩॥
naanak har jas ki-o nahee gaavat kumat binaasai tan kee. ||2||1||233||
O’ Nanak, why don’t you sing praises of God, so that you may get rid of the evil disposition? ||2||1||233||
Ee Nanak, kwa nini usiimbe sifa za Mungu, ili uweze kuondoa silika mbaya?

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.

ਉਤਰਿ ਅਵਘਟਿ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਵੈ ॥
utar avghat sarvar nHaavai.
One who descending from the difficult peak of ego and bathes in the pool of saintly congregation.
Yule ambaye akishuka kitoka kwenye kilele kigumu cha ubinafsi anaoga katika kidimbiwi cha ushirika mtakatifu.

ਬਕੈ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
bakai na bolai har gun gaavai.
Without any prattles, he sings the Praises of God.
Bila porojo yoyote, anaimba Sifa za Mungu.

ਜਲੁ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
jal aakaasee sunn samaavai.
Like water vapor in the sky, he rises and remains in the supreme spiritual state.
Kama mvuke wa maji angani, anainuka na kubaki katika hali kuu ya kiroho.

ਰਸੁ ਸਤੁ ਝੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
ras sat jhol mahaa ras paavai. ||1||
contemplating on the truth, he attains the supreme nectar of Naam. ||1||
akitafaakri kuhusu ukweli, anapata nekta kuu ya Naam.

ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਅਭ ਮੋਰੇ ॥
aisaa gi-aan sunhu abh moray.
O’ my mind, listen to the divine wisdom to realize God
Ee akili yangu, sikiliza hekima takatifu ya kumgundua Mungu

ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਉਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bharipur Dhaar rahi-aa sabh tha-uray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that God pervades and supports the entire universe. ||1||Pause||
kwamba Mungu anaenea na kutegemeza ulimwengu mzima. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸਚੁ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥
sach barat naym na kaal santaavai.
Death does not agonize that person who makes truthfulness his fast and religious vow,
Kifo hakitesi mtu huyo anayefanya ukweli kuwa kufunga kwake na ahadi yake ya kidini,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥
satgur sabad karoDh jalaavai.
and who burns his wrath through the true Guru’s word.
Na anayeteketeza hasira yake kupitia neno la Guru wa kweli.

ਗਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
gagan nivaas samaaDh lagaavai.
Through the higher spiritual thinking, he remains attuned to God.
Kupitia fikira za juu za kiroho, anabaki amemakinikia Mungu.

ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
paaras paras param pad paavai. ||2||
By following the Guru’s teachings he obtains the supreme spiritual status. ||2||
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru anapata hadhi kuu ya kiroho.

ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ॥
sach man kaaran tat bilovai.
To realize the truth, the person who again and again remembers God, is like the one who is churning milk to obtain butter
Ili kugundua ukweli, mtu ambaye anamkumbuka Mungu tena natena, ni kama yule ambaye anasukasuka maziwa ili kupata siagi

ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
subhar sarvar mail na Dhovai.
and washes the dirt of vices from his mind in the brimful tank of ambrosial nectar of Naam.
Na anasafisha uchafu wa maovu kutoka kwa akili yake katika tanki iliyojaa nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam.

ਜੈ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
jai si-o raataa taiso hovai.
He becomes like God, with whose love he is imbued,
Yeye anakuwa kama Mungu, ambaye amejawa na upendo Wake,

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
aapay kartaa karay so hovai. ||3||
and believes that whatever the Creator Himself does, only that happens. ||3||
na anaamini kwamba chochote Muumba Mwenyewe anachofanya, hicho pekee kinatendeka.

ਗੁਰ ਹਿਵ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
gur hiv seetal agan bujhaavai.
One who extinguishes his fiery desires by meeting and following the teachings of the Guru who is cool and calm like ice,
Yule anayezima hamu zake zenye moto kwa kukutana na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru ambaye ana baridi shwari na mtulivu kama barafu,

ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥
sayvaa surat bibhoot charhaavai.
he smears himself with the ashes of Guru’s teachings, with full dedication of the mind
anajipaka majivu ya mafundisho ya Guru, kwa uwakfu kamili wa akili.

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
darsan aap sahj ghar aavai.
To live in a state of peace and poise becomes his philosophy of life.
Kuishi katika hali ya amani na utulivu kunakuwa falsafa yake ya maisha.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
nirmal banee naad vajaavai. ||4||
Such a person sings the praises of God, as if he is playing the flute of the immaculate words of the Guru. ||4||
Mtu kama huyo anaimba sifa za Mungu, kana kwamba anacheza filimbi ya maneno takatifu ya Guru.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
antar gi-aan mahaa ras saaraa.
One who has enshrined divine knowledge within and who is always meditating on Naam, as if he is partaking the supreme elixir,
Yule ambaye amethamini maarifa takatifu ndani mwake na ambaye daima anatafakari kuhusu Naam, kana kwamba anashiriki dawa bora zaidi,

ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
tirath majan gur veechaaraa.
for him, contemplation of the Guru’s word is like bathing at the holy places of pilgrimage,
kwake, kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru ni kama kuoga katika pahali takatifu pa hija,

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ॥
antar poojaa thaan muraaraa.
and has realized that his heart is God’s abode and place of worship,
na amegundua kwamba moyo wake ni makao ya Mungu na pahali pa ibada,

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
jotee jot milaavanhaaraa. ||5||
that person is able to unite his soul with the supreme soul of God. ||5||
mtu huyo anaweza kuunganisha roho yake na roho kuu ya Mungu.

ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿਆ ਮਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
ras rasi-aa mat aikai bhaa-ay.
(O’ yogi), one whose mind is permeated with the elixir of Naam and whose intellect is imbued with God’s love,
(Ee yogi), yule ambaye akili yake imepenyezwa na dawa ya Naam na ambaye uwekevu wake umejawa na upendo wa Mungu,

ਤਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਪੰਚ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
takhat nivaasee panch samaa-ay.
he, the chosen one, merges with God, the occupier of thethrone of his heart.
Yeye, mteule, anaungana na Mungu, mkazi wa kiti cha enzi cha moyo wake.

ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
kaar kamaa-ee khasam rajaa-ay.
He does everything according to the will of the Master-God,
Yeye anafanya kila kitu kulingana na mapenzi ya Bwana-Mungu,

ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥
avigat naath na lakhi-aa jaa-ay. ||6||
who is intangible and cannot be described. ||6||
ambaye hawezi kugusika na hawezi kuelezwa.

ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
jal meh upjai jal tay door.
At sun rise, sun appears to be coming out of water but in reality it is far away from the water.
Asubuhi, jua linaonekana kutoka kwa maji lakini kwa uhalisia lipo mbali sana kutoka kwa maji.

ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
jal meh jot rahi-aa bharpoor.
because of its light, sun seems to be fully pervading the waters. Similarly, God’s light is pervading in all and everywhere.
Kwa sababu ya mwanga wake, jua linaonekana kuenea maji kikamilifu. Vivyo hivyo, mwanga wa Mungu unaenea katika wote na kila mahali.

ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
kis nayrhai kis aakhaa door.
I can’t say who He is close to and who He is far from.
Siwezi kusema Yeye yu karibu na nani na yu mbali na nani.

ਨਿਧਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੭॥
niDh gun gaavaa daykh hadoor. ||7||
Beholding Him right in front of me, I simply keep singing praises of that treasure of virtues. ||7||
Nikimtazama Yeye mbele yangu, naendelea tu kuimba sifa za hazina huyo wa fadhila

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
antar baahar avar na ko-ay.
Within the beings and outside in the universe, there is none other than God.
Ndani mwa viumbe na nje katika ulimwengu, hakuna mwengine ila Mungu.
