ਮਨਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਵਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਥਾਪੀ ॥੧॥
maneh maar kavan siDh thaapee. ||1||
What kind of perfection can be achieved by killing the mind? ||1||
Aina gani ya ukamili unaweza kutimizwa kwa kuua akili?

ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਮੁਨਿ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
kavan so mun jo man maarai.
Who is that silent sage, who has killed his mind?
Nani ni huyo mhenga mnyamavu, ambaye ameua akili yake?

ਮਨ ਕਉ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man ka-o maar kahhu kis taarai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Tell me, whom he emancipates by killing the mind? ||1||Pause||
Niambie, yule ambaye anakomboa kwa kuua akili? ||1||Sitisha||

ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
man antar bolai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone speaks and acts through the mind.
Kila mtu anazungumza na kutenda kupitia akili.

ਮਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
man maaray bin bhagat na ho-ee. ||2||
No devotional worship can be performed without controlling the mind. ||2||
Hakuna ibada ya ujitoaji inaweza kufanywa bila kudhibiti akili.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੋ ਜਾਨੈ ਭੇਉ ॥
kaho kabeer jo jaanai bhay-o.
Kabeer says, one who understands this secret of controlling the mind,
Kabeer anasema, yule ambaye anaelewa siri hii ya kudhibiti akili,

ਮਨੁ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਦੇਉ ॥੩॥੨੮॥
man maDhusoodan taribhavan day-o. ||3||28||
beholds within his own mind the Master of the three worlds, God. ||3||28||
anatazama ndani mwa akili yake Bwana wa dunia zote tatu, Mungu.

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥
ga-orhee kabeer jee.
Raag Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਓਇ ਜੁ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਅੰਬਰਿ ਤਾਰੇ ॥
o-ay jo deeseh ambar taaray.
The stars which are seen in the sky,
Nyota zinazoonekana angani,

ਕਿਨਿ ਓਇ ਚੀਤੇ ਚੀਤਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
kin o-ay cheetay cheetanhaaray. ||1||
who is that painter who has painted these ? ||1||
nani ndiye mchoraji aliyepaka rangi hizi?

ਕਹੁ ਰੇ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅੰਬਰੁ ਕਾ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
kaho ray pandit ambar kaa si-o laagaa.
O’ Pundit, please explain how the sky is supported?
Ee Mtaalam, tafadhali eleza jinsi ambavyo anga inategemezwa?

ਬੂਝੈ ਬੂਝਨਹਾਰੁ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
boojhai boojhanhaar sabhaagaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Only a very fortunate wise person understands this mystery. ||1||Pause||
Mtu mwenye hekima mwenye bahati mno pekee anaelewa siri hii. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸੂਰਜ ਚੰਦੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥
sooraj chand karahi ujee-aaraa.
The light which the sun and the moon provide to the world;
Mwanga ambao jua na mwezi unatoa kwa dunia;

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
sabh meh pasri-aa barahm pasaaraa. ||2||
in fact it is the light of God which pervades everywhere. ||2||
kwa hakika ni mwanga wa Mungu unaoenea kote.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਾਨੈਗਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
kaho kabeer jaanaigaa so-ay.
Kabir say, that person alone would understand this mystery,
Kabir sema, mtu huyo pekee angeelewa siri hii,

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮੈ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥੨੯॥
hirdai raam mukh raamai ho-ay. ||3||29||
who sings the praises of God enshrined in his heart. ||3||29||
anayeimba sifa za Mungu zilizothaminiwa moyoni mwake.

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥
ga-orhee kabeer jee.
Raag Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਬੇਦ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
bayd kee putree simrit bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, this Smriti (code of conduct) that has evolved from the Vedas,
Ee ndugu, Smriti hii (kanuni ya maadili) ambayo imetokana na Vedas,

ਸਾਂਕਲ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਲੈ ਹੈ ਆਈ ॥੧॥
saaNkal jayvree lai hai aa-ee. ||1||
has brought with it the chains and bonds of rites and rituals for the ordinary human being. ||1||
imeleta pamoja nayo nyororo na vifungo vya desturi na mila kwa binadamu wa kawaida.

ਆਪਨ ਨਗਰੁ ਆਪ ਤੇ ਬਾਧਿਆ ॥
aapan nagar aap tay baaDhi-aa.
This Smriti has chained its own devotees with false beliefs and rituals.
Smriti hii imefunga watawa wake wenyewe kwa imani na mila za uongo.

ਮੋਹ ਕੈ ਫਾਧਿ ਕਾਲ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
moh kai faaDh kaal sar saaNDhi-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By entangling them in the noose of worldly attachments it has kept them in the fear of death. ||1||Pause||
Kwa kuwanasa katika kitanzi cha viambatisho vya kidunia imewaweka katika hofu ya kifo. ||1||Sitisha||

ਕਟੀ ਨ ਕਟੈ ਤੂਟਿ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ॥
katee na katai toot nah jaa-ee.
These bonds can neither be cut nor can they be broken.
Vifungo hivi haviwezi kukatwa wala haviwezi kuvunjwa.

ਸਾ ਸਾਪਨਿ ਹੋਇ ਜਗ ਕਉ ਖਾਈ ॥੨॥
saa saapan ho-ay jag ka-o khaa-ee. ||2||
Like a serpent eating its own babies, the philosophy of these Simritis is devouring its own devotees ||2||
Kama nyoka anayekula wana wake wenyewe, falsafa ya hizi Smritis ni kuangamiza watawa wake wenyewe

ਹਮ ਦੇਖਤ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ॥
ham daykhat jin sabh jag looti-aa.
Before my very eyes, this philosophy of smiritis has plundered the entire world.
Mbele ya macho yangu mwenyewe, falsafa hii ya smritis imeteka nyara dunia nzima.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਮੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਹਿ ਛੂਟਿਆ ॥੩॥੩੦॥
kaho kabeer mai raam kahi chhooti-aa. ||3||30||
but I have been liberated by meditating on God’s Name, says kabeer ||3||30||
lakini mimi nimekombolewa kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, asema Kabeer

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥
ga-orhee kabeer jee.
Raag Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਦੇਇ ਮੁਹਾਰ ਲਗਾਮੁ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਉ ॥
day-ay muhaar lagaam pahiraava-o.
I direct my mind towards the love for God and away from slander and flattery of others just like directing a horse with reins and bridle;
Ninaelekeza akili yangu kwa upendo kwa Mungu na mbali na uchongezi na sifa za wengine kama farasi anavyoelekezwa kwa hatamu na lijamu;

ਸਗਲ ਤ ਜੀਨੁ ਗਗਨ ਦਉਰਾਵਉ ॥੧॥
sagal ta jeen gagan da-oraava-o. ||1||
I attune my mind to the remembrance of the all-pervading God and prepare it to give up rituals as if I put a saddle on the horse to control it. ||1||
Namakinisha akili yangu kwa ukumbusho wa Mungu anayeenea kote na kuitayarisha kuachana na mila kana kwamba ninaweka matandiko kwa farasi ili kumdhibiti.

ਅਪਨੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਅਸਵਾਰੀ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
apnai beechaar asvaaree keejai.
I control my thoughts like riding the horse.
Nadhibiti fikira zangu kama kuendesha farasi.

ਸਹਜ ਕੈ ਪਾਵੜੈ ਪਗੁ ਧਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sahj kai paavrhai pag Dhar leejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I keep my mind in equipoise as if I keep my feet in the stirrups. ||1||Pause||
Ninaweka akili yangu katika usawa kana ninavyoweka miguu yangu kwenye vipandio vya farasi. ||1||Sitisha||

ਚਲੁ ਰੇ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਲੇ ਤਾਰਉ ॥
chal ray baikunth tujheh lay taara-o.
Come O’ my horse like mind, let me take you through God’s abode.
Kuja Ee akili yangu kama farasi, niruhusu nikupeleke kupitia makao ya Mungu.

ਹਿਚਹਿ ਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੈ ਚਾਬੁਕ ਮਾਰਉ ॥੨॥
hicheh ta paraym kai chaabuk maara-o. ||2||
If you hesitate, I will hit you with the whip of love. ||2||
Iwapo usite, nitakugonga kwa mjeledi wa upendo.

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਭਲੇ ਅਸਵਾਰਾ ॥
kahat kabeer bhalay asvaaraa.
Kabeer says, those are the truly wise riders (thinkers). ||3||31||
Kabeer anasema, wale ambao ni waendeshaji (wafikiri) ambao kwa kweli wana hekima.

ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬ ਤੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੩੧॥
bayd katayb tay raheh niraaraa.||3||31||
who remain aloof from the controversies of Vedas and Semitic books. ||3||31||
Wanaobaki wamejitenga na mabishano ya Vedas na vitebu vya Kisemiti.

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥
ga-orhee kabeer jee.
Raag Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਜਿਹ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਂਚਉ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਖਾਏ ॥
jih mukh paaNcha-o amrit khaa-ay.
The mouth with which we used to eat all the five delicacies,
Mdomo tuliotumia kula vitoweo vyote tano,

ਤਿਹ ਮੁਖ ਦੇਖਤ ਲੂਕਟ ਲਾਏ ॥੧॥
tih mukh daykhat lookat laa-ay. ||1||
I have seen the flames being applied to that mouth after death. ||1||
Nimeona mwali wa moto ukiwekwa kwa mdomo huo baada ya kifo.

ਇਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਾਟਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
ik dukh raam raa-ay kaatahu mayraa.
O’ my sovereign God, please rid me of this one misery,
Ee Mungu wangu mwenyezi, tafadhali niondolee taabu hii moja,

ਅਗਨਿ ਦਹੈ ਅਰੁ ਗਰਭ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
agan dahai ar garabh basayraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
that I do not have to suffer in fire of worldly desires and in the cycles of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
kwamba nisilazimike kuteseka katika moto wa hamu za kidunia na katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa. ||1||Sitisha||

ਕਾਇਆ ਬਿਗੂਤੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਾਤੀ ॥
kaa-i-aa bigootee baho biDh bhaatee.
After death, this body is disposed off by various means.
Baada ya kifo, mwili huu unaondolewa kwa mbinu tofauti,

ਕੋ ਜਾਰੇ ਕੋ ਗਡਿ ਲੇ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੨॥
ko jaaray ko gad lay maatee. ||2||
Some burn it, and some bury it in the earth. ||2||
Wengine wanauchoma, na wengine wanauzika ardhini.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਦਿਖਾਵਹੁ ॥
kaho kabeer har charan dikhaavhu.
Kabeer says, O’ God, please reveal Yourself to me and
Kabeer anasema, Ee Mungu, tafadhali jidhihirishe kwangu na

ਪਾਛੈ ਤੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਿਉ ਨ ਪਠਾਵਹੁ ॥੩॥੩੨॥
paachhai tay jam ki-o na pathaavhu. ||3||32||
after that you may send the demon of death to take me away. ||3||32||
baada ya hayo unaweza kutuma pepo wa kifo anichukue.

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥
ga-orhee kabeer jee.
Raag Gauree, Kabeer Jee:

ਆਪੇ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਪਵਨਾ ॥
aapay paavak aapay pavnaa.
God Himself is the fire and Himself the air.
Mungu mwenyewe ni moto na Mwenyewe ni hewa.

ਜਾਰੈ ਖਸਮੁ ਤ ਰਾਖੈ ਕਵਨਾ ॥੧॥
jaarai khasam ta raakhai kavnaa. ||1||
When God wishes to burn someone then who can save him? ||1||
Wakati Mungu anataka kuchoma mtu basi nani anaweza kuokoa mtu huyo?

ਰਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਤਨੁ ਜਰਿ ਕੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam japat tan jar kee na ja-ay.raam naam chit rahi-aa samaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One whose mind is absorbed in God’s Name doesn’t care even if his body may be burnt while meditating on God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
Yule ambaye akili yake imevama katika Jina la Mungu hajali hata iwapo mwili wake utachomwa wakati anatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਕਾ ਕੋ ਜਰੈ ਕਾਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਨਿ ॥
kaa ko jarai kaahi ho-ay haan.
Because he believes that in reality, nothing belonging to anybody is burnt, and nobody suffers any loss.
Kwa sababu anaamini kwamba katika uhalisia, hakuna kitu cha mtu yeyote kinachomwa, na hakuna mtu anateseka hasara yoyote.

ਨਟ ਵਟ ਖੇਲੈ ਸਾਰਿਗਪਾਨਿ ॥੨॥
nat vat khaylai saarigpaan. ||2||
Like a juggler in different garbs, God is staging His plays on the world stage. |2|
Kama mfanya kiinimacho katika mavazi tofauti, Mungu anapanga michezo yake katika jukwaa la dunia.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਖਰ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਖਿ ॥
kaho kabeer akhar du-ay bhaakh.
Kabir says, you utter only these two divine words “Ram” (God)
Kabir anasema, wewe unatamka maneno haya mawili takatifu pekee “Ram” (Mungu)

ਹੋਇਗਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਤ ਲੇਇਗਾ ਰਾਖਿ ॥੩॥੩੩॥
ho-igaa khasam ta lay-igaa raakh. ||3||33||
if it is acceptable to the Master, He would save me. ||3||33||
iwapo inakubalika na Bwana, Yeye ataniokoa.

ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਦੁਪਦੇ ॥
ga-orhee kabeer jee dupday.
Raag Gauree, Kabeer Jee, Du-Padas:

ਨਾ ਮੈ ਜੋਗ ਧਿਆਨ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
naa mai jog Dhi-aan chit laa-i-aa.
I have not paid any attention to focus my mind as described in yoga.
Sijatilia maanane kumakinisha akili yangu inavyoelezwa katika yoga.

ਬਿਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
bin bairaag na chhootas maa-i-aa. ||1||
Without renunciation, I cannot escape Maya. ||1||
Bila ukanaji, siwezi kuepuka Maya.

ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
kaisay jeevan ho-ay hamaaraa.
(O’ my friends, just think) What kind of life would be ours,
(Ee marafiki wangu, hebu mfikirie) aina gani ya maisha ingekuwa yetu,
