ਤੀਜੈ ਮੁਹੀ ਗਿਰਾਹ ਭੁਖ ਤਿਖਾ ਦੁਇ ਭਉਕੀਆ ॥
teejai muhee giraah bhukh tikhaa du-ay bha-ukee-aa.
In the third quarter (by noon), both hunger and thirst are so intense, that one feels like eating something.
Katika robo ya tatu (mnamo saa sita mchana), njaa na kiu ni kali sana, hadi mtu anahisi kula kitu.

ਖਾਧਾ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਆਹ ਭੀ ਖਾਣੇ ਸਿਉ ਦੋਸਤੀ ॥
khaaDhaa ho-ay su-aah bhee khaanay si-o dostee.
After some time, whatever one had eaten gets consumed, and one feels the need to eat again.
Baada ya muda mfupi, chochote ambacho mtu amekula kinatumika na mwili, na mtu anahisi haja ya kula tena.

ਚਉਥੈ ਆਈ ਊਂਘ ਅਖੀ ਮੀਟਿ ਪਵਾਰਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
cha-uthai aa-ee ooNgh akhee meet pavaar ga-i-aa.
In the fourth quarter, one feels sleepy, so closing the eyes goes into deep sleep.
Katika robo ya nne, mtu anahisi usingizi, hizyo akifunga macho analala uzingizi wenye kina.

ਭੀ ਉਠਿ ਰਚਿਓਨੁ ਵਾਦੁ ਸੈ ਵਰ੍ਹ੍ਹਿਆ ਕੀ ਪਿੜ ਬਧੀ ॥
bhee uth rachi-on vaad sai vareh-aa kee pirh baDhee.
Waking up from sleep, again one gets busy in the worldly strife (amassing more worldly wealth), as if one is going to live for hundreds of years.
Akiamka kutoka usingizi, tena mtu anajishughulisha katika ugomvi wa kidunia (kukusanya utajiri wa kidunia), kana kwamba mtu ataishi mamia ya miaka.

ਸਭੇ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤ ਸਭਿ ਜੇ ਅਠੀ ਭਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
sabhay vaylaa vakhat sabh jay athee bha-o ho-ay.
When at all the time, one starts living in the revered fear of God, then one canalways stay imbued with God’s love.
Wakati ambapo kila saa, mtu ataanza kuishi katika uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu, basi mtu daima atabaki amejawa na upendo wa Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
naanak saahib man vasai sachaa naavan ho-ay.||1||
O’ Nanak, when in this way our Master comes to reside in our heart, then it becomes true (spiritual) ablution.
Ee Nanak, wakati kwa njia hii Bwana wetu anakuja kuishi moyoni mwetu, kisha kunakuwa kutawadha kwa kweli (kwa kiroho).

ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਹ ਜਿਨੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
say-ee pooray saah jinee pooraa paa-i-aa.
They, who have realized the perfect God, are truly wealthy.
Wale, ambao wamemgundua Mungu kamili, kwa kweli ni matajiri.

ਅਠੀ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ ਰਹਨਿ ਇਕਤੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
athee vayparvaah rahan iktai rang.
Twenty-four hours a day, they remain indifferent to worldly problems and remain imbued with the love of God.
Saa ishirini na nne kwa siku, wanabaki hawajihusishi na shida za kidunia na wanabaki wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu.

ਦਰਸਨਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਥਾਹ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ॥
darsan roop athaah virlay paa-ee-ah.
Rarely do we find such persons who at all times are absorbed in their cravings for a glimpse of infinite God.
Ni nadra sana kupata watu kama hao ambao wakati wote wamevama katika hamu zao za kumuona Mungu asiye na mwisho.

ਕਰਮਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਬੋਲੁ ॥
karam poorai pooraa guroo pooraa jaa kaa bol.
By perfect destiny one meets such a perfect Guru, whose every word is perfect.
Kwa hatima kamilifu mtu anakutana na Guru kamili kama huyo, ambaye kila neno lake ni kamili.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਜੇ ਕਰੇ ਘਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੋਲੁ ॥੨॥
naanak pooraa jay karay ghatai naahee tol. ||2||
O’ Nanak, when the Guru makes someone perfect, then such person is not found lacking in any qualities.
Ee Nanak, wakati Guru anafanya mtu kuwa kamili, basi mtu kama huyo hapatikana kukosa sifa zozote.

Pauree:

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
jaa tooN taa ki-aa hor mai sach sunaa-ee-ai.
O’ God, I speak out the Truth, when You are with me, what more could I want?
Ee Mungu, nazungumza Ukweli, wakati Wewe upo nami, naweza kutaka nini nyingine?

ਮੁਠੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਚੋਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
muthee DhanDhai chor mahal na paa-ee-ai.
The one, who has been robbed by the worldly pursuits is unable to reach Your court.
Yule ambaye, ameibiwa katika harakati za kidunia hawezi kufikia mahakama yako.

ਏਨੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਠੋਰਿ ਸੇਵ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥
aynai chit kathor sayv gavaa-ee-ai.
Being so stone-hearted (impermeable to God’s love), one has wasted all the (previous) services in vain.
Kwa kuwa na moyo mgumu hivyo (huwezi kupenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu), mtu amepoteza huduma yote (ya awali) bure.

ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ਸੁ ਭੰਨਿ ਘੜਾਈਐ ॥
jit ghat sach na paa-ay so bhann gharhaa-ee-ai.
The heart in which God hasn’t come to dwell, that person keeps going in the cycle of birth and death.
Moyo ambao Mungu hajaja kuishi ndani mwake, mtu huyo anaendelea kuingia katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਵਟਿ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੁਲਾਈਐ ॥
ki-o kar poorai vat tol tulaa-ee-ai.
When judged on the scale of righteousness, how can one be found perfect?
Wakati anahukumiwa katika mizani ya uadilifu, mtu atawezaje kupatikana kuwa kamili?

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਆਖੈ ਘਟਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
ko-ay na aakhai ghat ha-umai jaa-ee-ai.
If one gets rid of egotism, no one will say that one has lost any merits.
Iwapo mtu aondoe ubinafsi, hakuna mtu atasema ya kwamba amepoteza sifa zozote.

ਲਈਅਨਿ ਖਰੇ ਪਰਖਿ ਦਰਿ ਬੀਨਾਈਐ ॥
la-ee-an kharay parakh dar beenaa-ee-ai.
In the court of God, the true ones are easily recognised.
Katika mahakama ya Mungu, wale wa kweli wanatambulika kwa urahisi.

ਸਉਦਾ ਇਕਤੁ ਹਟਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧੭॥
sa-udaa ikat hat poorai gur paa-ee-ai. ||17||
The true wealth (Naam) which gets us approved in God’s court is obtained only from the perfect Guru.
Utajiri wa kweli (Naam) inayofanya tukubalike katika mahakama ya Mungu inapatikana tu kutoka Guru Kamili.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੨ ॥

Shalok, by the Second Guru:
Shalok, na Guru wa Pili:

ਅਠੀ ਪਹਰੀ ਅਠ ਖੰਡ ਨਾਵਾ ਖੰਡੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥
athee pahree ath khand naavaa khand sareer.
If human body is considered as one of the nine parts of the earth, then one is always running after the worldly wealth in the eight parts of the earth.
Iwapo mwili wa binadamu unafikiriwa kuwa moja ya sehemu tisa za dunia, basi mtu daima anafuatilia utajiri wa kidunia katika sehemu nane za dunia.

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥
tis vich na-o niDh naam ayk bhaaleh gunee gaheer.
Within the body is Naam, which is greater than all the treasures of the world. However, only rare wise people seek the infinitely virtuous God.
Ndani mwa mwili mna Naam, ambayo ni kuu kuliko hazina zote za dunia. Hata hivyo, ni watu nadra wenye busara pekee wanaotafuta Mungu mwenye fadhila zisizo na mwisho.

ਕਰਮਵੰਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥
karamvantee salaahi-aa naanak kar gur peer.
O’ Nanak, it is only the very fortunate people, who by accepting the Guru as their spiritual guide, sing the praises of God.
Ee Nanak, ni watu wenye bahati nzuri pekee, ambao kwa kukubali Guru kama mwelekezi wao wa kiroho, wanaimba sifa za Mungu.

ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰਿ ਸਬਾਹ ਕੈ ਸੁਰਤਿਆ ਉਪਜੈ ਚਾਉ ॥
cha-uthai pahar sabaah kai surti-aa upjai chaa-o.
In the fourth watch of the early morning hours, a longing arises in the mind of enlightened people)
Katika mtazamo wa nne wa saa za asubuhi mapema, hamu inatokea akilini mwa watu walioangazwa.

ਤਿਨਾ ਦਰੀਆਵਾ ਸਿਉ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
tinaa daree-aavaa si-o dostee man mukh sachaa naa-o.
They go and join those Guru’s followers who are meditating on God’s Name with loving devotion.
Wanaenda na kuungana na hao wafuasi wa Guru ambao wanatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa kujitolea kwa upendo.

ਓਥੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਵੰਡੀਐ ਕਰਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਪਸਾਉ ॥
othai amrit vandee-ai karmee ho-ay pasaa-o.
In those holy congregations, the Nectar of Naam is distributed, but only fortunate people are blessed by God with this gift.
Katika shirika hio takatifu, Nekta ya Naam inasambazwa, lakini watu wenye bahati nzuri pekee wanabarikiwa na Mungu kwa tuzo hii.

ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਸੀਐ ਵੰਨੀ ਚੜੈ ਚੜਾਉ ॥
kanchan kaa-i-aa kasee-ai vannee charhai charhaa-o.
(By subjecting to hardship of getting up in the early morning) Their bodies become pure like gold, imbued with the true devotional worship.
(Kwa kutiisha kwa ugumu wa kuamka asubuhi mapema) Miili yao inakuwa safi kama dhahabu, ikijawa na ibada ya kweli ya kujitolea.

ਜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਸਰਾਫ ਕੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਤਾਉ ॥
jay hovai nadar saraaf kee bahurh na paa-ee taa-o.
If God casts His glance of grace, then there is no need for any more hardship.
Iwapo Mungu atupe mtazamo wake wa neema, basi hakuna haja ya ugumu wowote mwingine.

ਸਤੀ ਪਹਰੀ ਸਤੁ ਭਲਾ ਬਹੀਐ ਪੜਿਆ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
satee pahree sat bhalaa bahee-ai parhi-aa paas.
In the remaining seven watches also, we should live a truthful life, do good to others and spend time in the company of enlightened people.
Katika mitazamo nyingine saba iliyobaki pia, tunafaa kuishi maisha kikweli, tendea wengine mazuri na ushinde katika uandamano wa watu walioangazwa.

ਓਥੈ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਕੂੜੈ ਘਟੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
othai paap punn beechaaree-ai koorhai ghatai raas.
There, we should reflect upon virtues and sins, to decrease the capitalof falsehood.
Hapo, tunafaa kutafakari kuhusu fadhila na dhambi, ili kupunguza rasilimali ya udanganyifu.

ਓਥੈ ਖੋਟੇ ਸਟੀਅਹਿ ਖਰੇ ਕੀਚਹਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
othai khotay satee-ah kharay keecheh saabaas.
There, in the holy congregation, the evil deeds and thoughts are kicked out, and the righteous deeds are applauded.
Hapo, katika uandamano takatifu, vitendo na fikira mbaya zinaondolewa, na vitendo vya haki vinapongezwa.

ਬੋਲਣੁ ਫਾਦਲੁ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਖਸਮੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥
bolan faadal naankaa dukh sukh khasmai paas. ||1||
O’ Nanak, it is useless to complain about anything, all pain and pleasure are in the power of our God.
Ee Nanak, ni bure kulalamika kuhusu chochote, uchungu na raha yote ipo katika nguvu za Mungu wetu.

ਪਉਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥
pa-un guroo paanee pitaa maataa Dharat mahat.
Air is the Guru, (air is as essential for life as the Guru is essential for spiritual growth). Water is the Father (as it is the source of all life and helps the earth to produce all the bounties that are consumed). Earth is the Great Mother of all.
Hewa ni Guru, (hewa ni muhimu kwa uhai kama Guru alivyo muhimu kwa kukua kiroho). Maji ni Baba (kama yalivyo chanzo cha uhai wote na kusaidia dunia kuzalisha mazao yote yanayoliwa). Dunia ni Mama Mkuu wa yote.

ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਖੇਲੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
dinas raat du-ay daa-ee daa-i-aa khaylai sagal jagat.
Day and night are like the male and female nurses, in whose lap the entire world is at play.
Mchana na usiku ni kama wauguzi wake na waume, ambao kwa paja lap dunia nzima inachezea.

ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆ ਵਾਚੇ ਧਰਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
chang-aa-ee-aa buri-aa-ee-aa vaachay Dharam hadoor.
The good and bad deeds done by human beings are always watched and considered by the righteous judge (God).
Vitendo vizuri na vibaya vilivyotendwa na binadamu vinatazamwa na kuchunguzwa na hakimu wa haki (Mungu).

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਕੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
karmee aapo aapnee kay nayrhai kay door.
According to their own actions, some are drawn closer, and some are driven farther away from Him.
Kulingana na vitendo vyao wenyewe, wengine wanaletwa karibu, na wengine wanapelekwa mbali zaidi kutoka kwa Mungu.

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥
jinee naam Dhi-aa-i-aa ga-ay maskat ghaal.
Those who have meditated on God’s Name with loving devotion, depart from this world with their toil approved (achieving the ultimate Goal of human birth).
Wale ambao wametafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa kujitolea kwa upendo, wanaondoka kutoka dunia hii kazi yao ikiwa imeidhinishwa (wamefanikisha Lengo kuu la kuzaliwa kwa ubinadamu).

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੋਰ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੨॥
naanak tay mukh ujlay hor kaytee chhutee naal. ||2||
O’ Nanak, such persons are received in God’s court with honor, and many more in their company (following in their footsteps) are saved along with them.
Ee Nanak, watu kama hao wanapokelewa katika mahakama ya Mungu kwa heshima, na wengi wengine katika uandamano wao (wakifuata katika hatua zao) wanakombolewa pamoja nao.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥
pa-orhee.
Pauree:

ਸਚਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਸਿਆ ॥
sachaa bhojan bhaa-o satgur dasi-aa.
The one to whom, the Guru has told that the true spiritual food is the true love for God.
Yule ambaye, Guru ameambia ya kwamba chakula cha kweli cha kiroho ni upendo halisi kwa Mungu.

ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਪਤੀਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ॥
sachay hee patee-aa-ay sach vigsi-aa.
Such a person is appeased and delighted with the Truth.
Mtu kama huyo ametulizwa na kufurahishwa na Ukweli.

ਸਚੈ ਕੋਟਿ ਗਿਰਾਂਇ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ॥
sachai kot giraaN-ay nij ghar vasi-aa.
The person remain attuned to God, as if residing in the fort and village of the true God.
Mtu huyo anabaki amemakinikia Mungu, kana kwamba anaishi katika ngome na kijiji cha Mungu wa kweli.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਤੁਠੈ ਨਾਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਰਹਸਿਆ ॥
satgur tuthai naa-o paraym rehsi-aa.
When the true Guru is pleased, one receives God’s Naam, and blossoms forth in His Love.
Wakati Guru wa kweli anapendezwa, mtu anapokea Naam ya Mungu, na kunawiri katika Upendo wake.

ਸਚੈ ਦੈ ਦੀਬਾਣਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
sachai dai deebaan koorh na jaa-ee-ai.
Through falsehood we can not reach the court of the true God.
Kupitia udanganyifu hatuwezi kufikia mahakama ya Mungu wa kweli.

ਝੂਠੋ ਝੂਠੁ ਵਖਾਣਿ ਸੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਖੁਆਈਐ ॥
jhootho jhooth vakhaan so mahal khu-aa-ee-ai.
By speaking lies all the time we lose the opportunity to reach God’s court.
Kwa kuzungumza uongo kila wakati tunapoteza fursa ya kufikia mahakama ya Mungu.
