ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
naanak kee parabh bayntee parabh milhu paraapat ho-ay.
O’ God, this is Nanak’s prayer: please meet me, so that I may obtain Your union.
Ee Mungu, hilo ndilo ombi la Nanak: tafadhali kutana nami, ndiposa niweze kupokea muungano wako.

ਵੈਸਾਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਤਾਂ ਲਗੈ ਜਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਭੇਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
vaisaakh suhaavaa taaN lagai jaa sant bhaytai har so-ay. ||3||
The month of Vaisakh looks beautiful only when one realizes God through the Saint Guru.
Mwezi wa Vaisakh unakaa vizuri wakati tu mtu anamgundua Mungu kupitia Guru Mtakatifu.

ਹਰਿ ਜੇਠਿ ਜੁੜੰਦਾ ਲੋੜੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਅਗੈ ਸਭਿ ਨਿਵੰਨਿ ॥
har jayth jurhandaa lorhee-ai jis agai sabh nivann.
In the month of Jaith, (Jaith is the elder brother of the husband) we should try to unite with that Supreme Being, before whom all bow their heads.
Katika mwezi wa Jaith, (Jaith ni kaka mkubwa wa Mume) tunafaa kujaribu kuungana na Kiumbe Mkuu, ambaye wote wanasujudu mbele zake.

ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣ ਦਾਵਣਿ ਲਗਿਆ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਬੰਨਿ ॥
har sajan daavan lagi-aa kisai na day-ee bann.
When we are in the refuge of God, our real friend, He (God) doesn’t let the demon of death to bind us down for punishment .
Wakati tupo katika kimbilio cha Mungu, rafiki wetu wa kweli, Yeye (Mungu) haachi pepo wa kifo atufunge kwa adhabu.

ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਉਨ ਲਗੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਨਿ ॥
maanak motee naam parabh un lagai naahee sann.
God’s precious Name is such a wealth which cannot be stolen or taken away.
Jina la Mungu lenye thamana ni utajiri wa kipekee ambao hauwezi kuibwa au kunyang’anywa.

ਰੰਗ ਸਭੇ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੰਨਿ ॥
rang sabhay naaraa-inai jaytay man bhaavann.
All the different wonders of God, are pleasing to our mind.
Miujiza yote tofauti ya Mungu, inapendeza kwa akili yetu.

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਲੋੜੇ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਜੀਅ ਕਰੰਨਿ ॥
jo har lorhay so karay so-ee jee-a karann.
God, Himself and all His creatures, does exactly what pleases Him.
Mungu, mwenyewe na viumbe vyake vyote, anafanya kinachompendeza haswa.

ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਈ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਧੰਨਿ ॥
jo parabh keetay aapnay say-ee kahee-ahi Dhan.
They alone are called blessed, whom God has made His Own.
Wao pekee wanaitwa waliobarikiwa, ambao Mungu amefanya wawe wake mwenyewe.

ਆਪਣ ਲੀਆ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਕਿਉ ਰੋਵੰਨਿ ॥
aapan lee-aa jay milai vichhurh ki-o rovann.
If people could realize God by their own efforts, why would they feel miserable upon being separated from Him?
Iwapo watu wangeweza kumgundua Mungu kwa jitihada yao wenyewe, kwa nini wangehisi taabu kwa kutenganishwa kutoka kwake?

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਰਾਪਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣੰਨਿ ॥
saaDhoo sang paraapatay naanak rang maanan.
O’ Nanak, only those persons enjoy the bliss of union with God who obtain the company of the Saints.
Ee Nanak, ni watu tu ambao wanafurahia raha tele ya muungano na Mungu ambao wanapokea uandamano wa Watakatifu.

ਹਰਿ ਜੇਠੁ ਰੰਗੀਲਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਣੀ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਭਾਗੁ ਮਥੰਨਿ ॥੪॥
har jayth rangeelaa tis Dhanee jis kai bhaag mathann. ||4||
The month of jaith (May-June) is full of joys for those fortunate ones, in whose destiny it is so preordained.
Mwezi wa jaith (Mei-Juni) umejaa furaha kwa wale waliobahatika, ambaye katika hatima yake imeagiziwa mapema.

ਆਸਾੜੁ ਤਪੰਦਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੁ ਨ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
aasaarh tapandaa tis lagai har naahu na jinna paas.
The month of Asarh seems burning hot, to those soul-brides who are not with their Husband-God.
Mwezi wa Asarh unakaa kuwa na joto jingi, kwa wale roho kama bi harusi ambao hawapo na Mume-Mungu wao.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਣਸ ਸੰਦੀ ਆਸ ॥
jagjeevan purakh ti-aag kai maanas sandee aas.
They have forsaken God the Primal Being, the Life of the World, and they have come to rely upon mere mortals.
Wamemwacha Mungu Kiumbe wa Asili, Uhai wa Dunia, na wamekuja kutegemea binadamu tu.

ਦੁਯੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਗੁਚੀਐ ਗਲਿ ਪਈਸੁ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸ ॥
duyai bhaa-ay viguchee-ai gal pa-ees jam kee faas.
By straying in duality, one suffer severely and feel as if noose of death has been put around his necks.
Kwa kupotoka katika uwili, mtu anateseka sana na kuhisi kana kwamba kitanzi cha kifo kimewekwa kwenye shingo yake.

ਜੇਹਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੈ ਮਥੈ ਜੋ ਲਿਖਿਆਸੁ ॥
jayhaa beejai so lunai mathai jo likhi-aas.
As predestined, you shall harvest as you sow.
Ilivyoagiziwa mapema, utavuna unavyopanda.

ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੀ ਉਠਿ ਚਲੀ ਗਈ ਨਿਰਾਸ ॥
rain vihaanee pachhutaanee uth chalee ga-ee niraas.
(The soul-bride who forsake her Husband-God) after spending her night-life in regrets, she departs from the world with no hope at all.
(Roho kama bi harusi anayetengana na Mume-Mungu wao) baada ya kushinda maisha kama usiku yake akijuta, yeye anaondoka kutoka dunia bila tumaini hata kidogo.

ਜਿਨ ਕੌ ਸਾਧੂ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਸੋ ਦਰਗਹ ਹੋਇ ਖਲਾਸੁ ॥
jin kou saaDhoo bhaytee-ai so dargeh ho-ay khalaas.
(On the other hand), those who meet and follow the teachings of the saint (Guru) are honored in God’s court.
(Kwa upande mwingine), wale ambao wanakutana na kufuata mafundisho ya mtakatifu (Guru) wanaheshimika katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਹੋਇ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
kar kirpaa parabh aapnee tayray darsan ho-ay pi-aas.
O’ God, please show Your mercy, that I may always desire for Your Vision.
Ee Mungu, tafadhali onesha huruma yako, daima niwe na hamu ya Njozi yako.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
parabh tuDh bin doojaa ko nahee naanak kee ardaas.
Without You, God, there is no other at all. This is Nanak’s humble prayer.
Bila Wewe, Mungu, hakuna mwengine hata mmoja. Hili ni ombi nyenyekevu la Nanak.

ਆਸਾੜੁ ਸੁਹੰਦਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੫॥
aasaarh suhandaa tis lagai jis man har charan nivaas. ||5||
The month of Asaard (June-july) is pleasing to the one in whose mind the Name of God is enshrined.
Mwezi wa Asaard (Juni-Julai) unapendeza kwa yule ambaye katika akili yake Jina la Mungu linathaminiwa.

ਸਾਵਣਿ ਸਰਸੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
saavan sarsee kaamnee charan kamal si-o pi-aar.
In the month of Saawan (July-August ) one, who is imbued with the love for God, blooms in happiness.
Katika mwezi wa Saawan (Julai-Agosti) yule, ambaye amejawa na upendo kwa Mungu, ananawiri katika furaha.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਸਚ ਰੰਗਿ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
man tan rataa sach rang iko naam aDhaar.
The mind and body are imbued with the Love of the True One; His Name is the only Support.
Akili na mwili unajawa na Upendo wa yule Mmoja wa Kweli; Jina lake ni nguzo ya pekee.

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰੰਗ ਕੂੜਾਵਿਆ ਦਿਸਨਿ ਸਭੇ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
bikhi-aa rang koorhaavi-aa disan sabhay chhaar.
To her all the false worldly attractions of Maya appear useless like ashes.
Kwake vivutio vyote vya kidunia vya Maya yanaonekana kuwa bure kama majivu.

ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬੂੰਦ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੀਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
har amrit boond suhaavanee mil saaDhoo peevanhaar.
Meeting the Guru, she is able relish the Ambrosial drop of God’s Name.
Kwa kukutana na Guru, yeye anaweza kufurahia tone la Ambrosia la Jina la Mungu.

ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਥ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
van tin parabh sang ma-oli-aa samrath purakh apaar.
In the love of the limitless all-powerful God, the entire world (vegetation etc) is in bloom.
Katika upendo wa Mungu mwenye nguvu zote asiye na kikomo, dunia nzima (mazingira na kadhalika) ipo katika uamshi.

ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਣੈ ਨੋ ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
har milnai no man lochdaa karam milaavanhaar.
My mind also yearns to unite with that God. If only only He would show His mercy and unite me with Himself.
Akili yangu pia inatamani kuungana na Mungu huyo. Iwapo tu angeonesha huruma yake na kuniunganisha naye.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੰਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥
jinee sakhee-ay parabh paa-i-aa haN-u tin kai sad balihaar.
I dedicate my life to those fellow bride-souls, who have realized God.
Naweka wakfu maisha yangu kwa wale raho kama bi harusi wenzangu, ambao wamemgundua Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
naanak har jee ma-i-aa kar sabad savaaranhaar.
Nanak says, O’ my God, please show Your mercy. It is only You who can embellish my life, through the Guru’s word.
Nanak anasema, Ee Mungu wangu, tafadhali onyesha huruma yako. Ni Wewe tu ambaye unaweza kupamba maisha yangu, kupitia neno la Guru.

ਸਾਵਣੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
saavan tinaa suhaaganee jin raam naam ur haar. ||6||
The month of Saawan (July-August) is delightful for those fortunate oneswho have enshrined God in their heart.
Mwezi wa Saawan (Julai-Agosti) unafurahisha kwa wale walio na bahati nzuri ambao wamethamini Mungu moyoni mwao.

ਭਾਦੁਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗਾ ਹੇਤੁ ॥
bhaadu-ay bharam bhulaanee-aa doojai lagaa hayt.
In the month of Bhadon (August-Sept) The bride-soul who is attached to duality (worldly riches instead of God) is lost in illusion and goes astray.
Katika mwezi wa Bhadon (Agosti-Septemba) roho kama bi harusi ambaye ameambatishwa kwa uwili (utajiri wa kidunia badala la Mungu) amepotea katika njozi na amepotoka.

ਲਖ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੇਤੁ ॥
lakh seegaar banaa-i-aa kaaraj naahee kayt.
The soul-bride may wear thousands of ornaments, but they are of no use at all. (one cannot realize God by performing any number of rituals)
Roho kama bi harusi anaweza kuvaa maelfu ya mapambo, lakini hayana manufaa hata kidogo (mtu hawezi kumgundua Mungu kwa kufanya idadi yoyote ya mila)

ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਦੇਹ ਬਿਨਸਸੀ ਤਿਤੁ ਵੇਲੈ ਕਹਸਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਤੁ ॥
jit din dayh binsasee tit vaylai kahsan parayt.
The day this body dies, it will be called a ghost.
Siku ambayo mwili huu unakufa, utaitwa mzuka.

ਪਕੜਿ ਚਲਾਇਨਿ ਦੂਤ ਜਮ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਦੇਨੀ ਭੇਤੁ ॥
pakarh chalaa-in doot jam kisai na daynee bhayt.
The demons of death will take the soul away without telling anybody where they are taking it.
Pepo wa kifo atachukua roho bila kuambia yeyote anapoipeleka.

ਛਡਿ ਖੜੋਤੇ ਖਿਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਜਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਲਗਾ ਹੇਤੁ ॥
chhad kharhotay khinai maahi jin si-o lagaa hayt.
In an instant, all those with whom she was in love shall abandon her.
Papo hapo, watu wote ambao alikuwa anapendezwa nao watamwacha.

ਹਥ ਮਰੋੜੈ ਤਨੁ ਕਪੇ ਸਿਆਹਹੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੇਤੁ ॥
hath marorhai tan kapay si-aahhu ho-aa sayt.
(Seeing death approaching, one becomes so frightened that) one wrings hands, the body trembles, and it turns from black to white.
(Akiona kifo kikikaribia, mtu anakuwa na hofu mno hadi) mtu anakunja mikono, mwili unatetemeka, na unageuka kutoka nyeusi hadi nyeupe.

ਜੇਹਾ ਬੀਜੈ ਸੋ ਲੁਣੈ ਕਰਮਾ ਸੰਦੜਾ ਖੇਤੁ ॥
jayhaa beejai so lunai karmaa sand-rhaa khayt.
Life is like a field of deeds, where one reaps whatever one sows.
Maisha ni kama uwanja wa vitendo, ambapo mtu anavuna chochote anachopanda.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਚਰਣ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਤੁ ॥
naanak parabh sarnaagatee charan bohith parabh dayt.
O’ Nanak, those who seek God’s refuge; He helps them crossover the world-ocean of vices.
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wanatafuta kimbilio cha Mungu, Yeye anawasaidia kuvuka bahari-dunia hii ya dhambi.

ਸੇ ਭਾਦੁਇ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੇਤੁ ॥੭॥
say bhaadu-ay narak na paa-ee-ah gur rakhan vaalaa hayt. ||7||
They, whose beloved is the savior Guru, are not made to suffer torments, as one suffers in the month of Bhadon.
Wale, ambao mpendwa wao ni Mkombozi Guru, hawateswi na mateso, kama mtu anavyoteswa katika mwezi wa Bhadon.

ਅਸੁਨਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਉਮਾਹੜਾ ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
asun paraym umaahrhaa ki-o milee-ai har jaa-ay.
An upsurge of love is arising within me in this pleasant month of Assu. I wonder, how could I go and meet my Husband-God?
Kuongezeka kwa upendo kunatokea ndani mwangu katika mwezi unaopendeza wa Assu. Nashangaa, ningewezaje kuenda na kukutana na Mume-Mungu wangu?
