ਇਕਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥
ik koorh laagay koorhay fal paa-ay.
Some are stuck in falsehood, and false are the rewards they receive.
Wengine wamekwama katika udanganyifu, na ya uongo ni zawadi wanazopokea.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay birthaa janam gavaa-ay.
In love with duality, they waste away their lives in vain.
Wakipendezwa na uwili, wanaharibu maisha yao bure.

ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
aap dubay saglay kul dobay koorh bol bikh khaavani-aa. ||6||
They drown themselves, along with their entire family in the love of Maya. Indulged in Falsehood, whatever they earn and eat is poison for the spiritual life.
Wanajizamisha, pamoja na familia yao mzima katika upendo wa Maya. Kwa kujihusisha katika Udanganyifu, chochote wanachochuma na kula ni sumu kwa maisha yao ya kiroho.

ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਖੈ ॥
is tan meh man ko gurmukh daykhai.
It is only a rare Guru’s follower who reflects on the mind within his body,
Ni mfuasi nadra wa Guru pekee ambaye anatafakari kuhusu akili ndani mwa mwili yake.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥
bhaa-ay bhagat jaa ha-umai sokhai.
and removes his ego through loving devotional worship of God.
Na kuondoa ubinafsi wake kwa ibada ya kujitolea kwa upendo kwa Mungu.

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
siDh saaDhik moniDhaaree rahay liv laa-ay tin bhee tan meh man na dikhaavani-aa. ||7||
The Siddhas, the seekers and the silent sages try to focus on their consciousness, but they also are not able to control their mind within the body.
Siddhas, watafuti na wajuzi wanyamavu wanajaribu kumakinisha fahamu zao, lakini hawawezi pia kudhibiti akili yao ndani ya mwili.

ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aap karaa-ay kartaa so-ee.
The Creator Himself inspires us to control our mind.
Muumba mwenyewe anatuhamasisha kudhibiti akili zetu.

ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਕੀਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥
hor ke karay keetai ki-aa ho-ee.
what can anyone do? No one can accomplish a task on one’s own.
Mtu anaweza kufanya nini? Hakuna mtu anayeweza kufanikisha kazi yeye mwenyewe.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੩॥੨੪॥
naanak jis naam dayvai so layvai naamo man vasaavani-aa. ||8||23||24||
O Nanak, only that person whom God gives His Name receives this gift, and keeps Naam enshrined in the mind.
Ee Nanak, ni mtu huyo pekee ambaye Mungu anampa Jina lake anapokea tuzo hii, na kuweka Naam vizuri akilini.

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

ਇਸੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
is gufaa meh akhut bhandaaraa.
Within this cave of the human body lies inexhaustible treasure of spiritual virtues
Ndani mwa pango hili la mwili wa kibinadamu mna hazina isiyoweza kuisha ya fadhila za kiroho.

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tis vich vasai har alakh apaaraa.
Within this body, dwells the Invisible and Infinite God.
Ndani mwa mwili huu, mnaishi Mungu asiyeonekana na asiye na mwisho.

ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਵੰਞਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
aapay gupat pargat hai aapay gur sabdee aap vanjaavan-i-aa. ||1||
They who rid themselves of their self conceit through the Guru’s word, realize that God pervades everywhere, both in His visible and invisible form.
Wale ambao wanaondoa majivuno yao binafsi kupitia neno la Guru, wanagundua ya kwamba Mungu anaenea kote, katika muundo unaoonekana na usioonekana.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree amrit naam man vasaavani-aa.
I devote my life and soul, to those who enshrine the Ambrosial Name of God in their minds.
Naweka wakfu maisha na roho yangu, kwa wale wanaothamini Jina lenye Ambrosia la Mungu akilini mwao.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
amrit naam mahaa ras meethaa gurma.tee amrit pee-aavni-aa.||1|| rahaa-o.
The Ambrosial elixir of God’s Name is extremely sweet! It is by the Guru’s teachings that a person is able to partake of this nectar.
Dawa ya Ambrosia ya Jina la Mungu ni tamu zaidi! Ni kwa mafundisho ya Guru ambapo mtu anaweza kushiriki nekta hii.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai maar bajar kapaat khulaa-i-aa.
Subduing egotism, the person who has opened the tough doors of ignorance,
Akishinda ubinafsi, mtu aliyefungua milango migumu ya ujinga,

ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
naam amolak gur parsaadee paa-i-aa.
by the Guru’s Grace, has realized the invaluable Naam.
Kwa Neema ya Guru, amegundua Naam isiyokadirika.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
bin sabdai naam na paa-ay ko-ee gur kirpaa man vasaavani-aa. ||2||
Without the divine word, the Naam is not obtained. By the Guru’s Grace, it is enshrined within the mind.
Bila neno takatifu, Naam haipatikani. Kwa Neema ya Guru, inawekwa vizuri akilini.

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur gi-aan anjan sach naytree paa-i-aa.
The one who has applied to his eyes the ointment of Guru’s divine wisdom.
Yule ambaye amepaka kwa macho yake dawa ya hekima takatifu ya Guru.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
antar chaanan agi-aan anDhayr gavaa-i-aa.
Deep within him, the Divine Light has dawned, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.
Ndani mwake kwa kina, Mwanga Takatifu umepambazuka, na giza ya ujinga imeondolewa.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
jotee jot milee man maani-aa har dar sobhaa paavni-aa. ||3||
His soul merges with the Supreme soul ; the mind gets convinced, and he is blessed with Glory in God’s Court.
Roho yake inaungana na Roho Kuu; akili inashawishika, naye anabarikiwa na Utukufu katika Mahakama ya Mungu.

ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਭਾਲਣਿ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
sareerahu bhaalan ko baahar jaa-ay.
If one goes in search of Naam outside the body,
Iwapo mtu anende kutafuta Naam nje ya mwili wake,

ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
naam na lahai bahut vaygaar dukh paa-ay.
he will not receive Naam; instead he will suffer the pains of uncompensated labor.
Yeye hatapokea Naam; badala yake anateseka na maumivu ya kazi bila malipo.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਘਿਰਿ ਆਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਥੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
manmukh anDhay soojhai naahee fir ghir aa-ay gurmukh vath paavni-aa. ||4||
The self-conceited, blinded by Maya, does not understand. But when after much wandering he returns to the Guru’s shelter, he finds Naam within.
Mwenye majivuno binafsi, aliyepofushwa na Maya, haelewi. Lakini wakati baada ya kuzurura kwingi anarudi katika makao ya Guru, anapata Naam ndani mwake.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee sachaa har paa-ay.
When by the Guru’s Grace, one realizes the eternal God,
Wakati kwa Neema ya Guru, mtu anagundua Mungu wa milele,

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
man tan vaykhai ha-umai mail jaa-ay.
then one beholds Him, both in the body and mind, and the filth of ego departs.
Kisha mtu anamtazama, kwa mwili na akili, na uchafu wa ubinafsi unaondoka.

ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਸਦ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
bais suthaan sad har gun gaavai sachai sabad samaavani-aa. ||5||
Sitting in the holy congregation, he always sings the Glorious Praises of God, and remains merged in Him through the Guru’s word.
Akikaa katika ushirika takatifu, daima anaimba Sifa Tukufu za Mungu, na anabaki ameungana naye kupitia neno la Guru.

ਨਉ ਦਰ ਠਾਕੇ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
na-o dar thaakay Dhaavat rahaa-ay.
The ones who controls the nine doors of the body (eyes, ears, nostrils, tongue, sex and excretory opening) and restrains the wandering mind from the vices,
Yule anayedhibiti milango tisa za mwili (macho, masikio, mashimo ya pua, ulimi, ufunguzi wa ngono na kinyesi) na kuzuia akili inayozurura kutoka maovu,

ਦਸਵੈ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
dasvai nij ghar vaasaa paa-ay.
Through exalted spiritual state comes to dwell in the tenth door (true home of the self where God dwells.
Kupitia hali iliyoinuliwa ya kiroho anakuja kuishi katika mlango wa kumi (nyumbani mwa kweli ya nafsi ambamo Mungu anaishi).

ਓਥੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
othai anhad sabad vajeh din raatee gurmatee sabad sunaavni-aa. ||6||
There, the Unstruck Melody of the divine music vibrates day and night. Through the Guru’s teachings, the Shabad (divine word) is heard.
Hapo, melodia isiyo na mfano wake wa muziki takatifu inatetema mchana na usiku. Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, Shabad (neno takatifu) inasikika.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਨੇਰਾ ॥
bin sabdai antar aanayraa.
Without the Guru’s teachings, there is only darkness of ignorance within.
Bila mafundisho ya Guru, kuna giza tu ya ujinga ndani mwa mtu.

ਨ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥
na vasat lahai na chookai fayraa.
He neither obtains the wealth of Naam, nor his rounds of birth and death end.
Yeye hapati utajiri wa Naam, wala mizunguko yake ya kuzaliwa na kufa haitamatiki.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
satgur hath kunjee horat dar khulai naahee gur poorai bhaag milaavani-aa. ||7||
The key to the wealth of Naam is in the hands of the True Guru; no one else can open this door. And the Guru is met only by perfect destiny.
Ufunguo wa utajiri wa Naam upo mikononi mwa Guru wa kweli; hakuna mwengine anayeweza kufungua mlango huo. Na Guru anapatwa tu kwa hatima kamilifu.

ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
gupat pargat tooN sabhnee thaa-ee.
Hidden or revealed, You are pervading in all the places.
Ukifichwa au kudhihirika, Wewe unaenea kote.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee mil sojhee paa-ee.
This understanding is obtained after realizing You through the Guru’s grace.
Uelewa huu unapatwa baada ya kukugundua Wewe kupitia neema ya Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੪॥੨੫॥
naanak naam salaahi sadaa tooN gurmukh man vasaavani-aa. ||8||24||25||
O’ Nanak, praise the Naam forever; and through the Guru’s teachings, enshrine it within the mind.
Ee Nanak, sifu Naam milele; na kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, ithamini ndani mwa akili.

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
maajh mehlaa 3.
Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
Raag Maajh, na Guru wa Tatu:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥
gurmukh milai milaa-ay aapay.
God Himself unites a Guru’s follower with the Guru.
Mungu mwenyewe anaunganisha mfuasi wa Guru na Guru mwenyewe.

ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
kaal na johai dukh na santaapay.
The demon of death does not look towards him, and no suffering afflicts him.
Pepo wa kifo hamtazami, na hakuna kuteseka kunakomkumba.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਭ ਤੋੜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
ha-umai maar banDhan sabh torhai gurmukh sabad suhaavani-aa. ||1||
Subduing egotism, he breaks all the bonds; and lives a righteous life by following the Guru’s teachings.
Kwa kushinda ubinafsi, anavunja vifungo vyote; na kuishi maisha ya haki kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree har har naam suhaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to the one who lives a righteous life by meditating on Naam.
Najiweka wakfu kwa yule anayeishi maisha ya haki kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh gaavai gurmukh naachai har saytee chit laavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru’s follower sings God’s praises and remains in ecstasy with the mind attuned to God.
Mfuasi wa Guru anaimba sifa za Mungu na kubaki katika raha akili ikiwa imemakinikia Mungu.
