ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:
ਸਭੇ ਦੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਭੁਲੀਐ ॥
sabhay dukh santaap jaaN tuDhhu bhulee-ai.
O’ God, we are afflicted with all kinds of misery and worries when we neglect remembering You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਜਾਈਏ ਤਾਂ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ (ਆ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।
ਜੇ ਕੀਚਨਿ ਲਖ ਉਪਾਵ ਤਾਂ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਘੁਲੀਐ ॥
jay keechan lakh upaav taaN kahee na ghulee-ai.
Even if we try thousands of remedies, we still do not find any relief.
(ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਜੇ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ, ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਉਪਾਵ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਸੁ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ॥
jis no visrai naa-o so nirDhan kaaNdhee-ai.
The person who forsakes God’s Name, is known as a spiritual pauper.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨਾ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਕੰਗਾਲ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਸੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਹਾਂਢੀਐ ॥
jis no visrai naa-o su jonee haaNdhee-ai.
One who forgets to remember God’s Name, wanders in reincarnations.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨਾ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਏ , ਉਹ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਮੁ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੇ ॥
jis khasam na aavai chit tis jam dand day.
The demon of death punishes the one who does not remember the Master-God.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਰੋਗੀ ਸੇ ਗਣੇ ॥
jis khasam na aavee chit rogee say ganay.
One who does not remember the Master-God, is counted among the sick.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਰੋਗੀ ਗਿਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੁ ਖਰੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ॥
jis khasam na aavee chit so kharo ahaNkaaree-aa.
That person is truly arrogant, who does not remember the Master-God.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਅਜੇਹਾ ਬੰਦਾ ਬੜਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
ਸੋਈ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਗਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਆ ॥੧੪॥
so-ee duhaylaa jag jin naa-o visaaree-aa. ||14||
The person who has forsaken Naam, is miserable in this world. ||14||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਭੁਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੈ ॥੧੪॥

Shalok, Fifth Guru:
ਤੈਡੀ ਬੰਦਸਿ ਮੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਡਿਠਾ ਤੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
taidee bandas mai ko-ay na dithaa too naanak man bhaanaa.
O’ God, I have not seen anybody like You; You are pleasing to Nanak’s mind.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਿਹਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਘੋਲਿ ਘੁਮਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਚੋਲੇ ਜੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
ghol ghumaa-ee tis mitar vicholay jai mil kant pachhaanaa. ||1||
I am dedicated to that friend and mediator, the Guru, meeting whom I have realized my Master-God. ||1||
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਵਿਚੋਲੇ (ਗੁਰੂ) ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਪਾਵ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਤਉ ਧਿਰਿ ਜੁਲਦੇ ਸੀਸੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਚਰਣੀ ॥
paav suhaavay jaaN ta-o Dhir julday sees suhaavaa charnee.
O’ God, beautiful are those feet which walk towards You and blessed is that head that falls at Your feet (bows down to You);
ਉਹ ਪੈਰ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਦਮਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੁਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਜਾਂ ਤਉ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਜੀਉ ਪਇਆ ਤਉ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੨॥
mukh suhaavaa jaaN ta-o jas gaavai jee-o pa-i-aa ta-o sarnee. ||2||
beautiful is the mouth when it sings Your praises and blessed is the mind when it seeks Your refuge. ||2||
ਮੂੰਹ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਸ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਰੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਿ ਮੰਗਲੁ ਗਾਵੀਆ ॥
mil naaree satsang mangal gaavee-aa.
Joining the holy congregation, the sou-bride who has sung praises of God,
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਵਿਆ,
ਘਰ ਕਾ ਹੋਆ ਬੰਧਾਨੁ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਧਾਵੀਆ ॥
ghar kaa ho-aa banDhaan bahurh na Dhaavee-aa.
her body (the sensory organs) come under her control and her mind no longer wanders after worldly riches and power.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ-ਘਰ ਦਾ ਠੁਕ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਏ)। ਉਹ ਫਿਰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਭਟਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਬਿਨਠੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਸੋਇ ਕੂੜਾਵੀਆ ॥
binthee durmat durat so-ay koorhaavee-aa.
Her evil-mindedness is dispelled, along with sins and any bad reputation.
(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਭੈੜੀ ਮੱਤ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਝੂਠੀ ਸ਼ੁਹਰਤ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੀਲਵੰਤਿ ਪਰਧਾਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਚਾਵੀਆ ॥
seelvant parDhaan ridai sachaavee-aa.
Such a sou-bridel becomes sweet natured and respect worthy, because in her heart now abides the loving adoration for God.
ਅਜੇਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਲਗਨ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਇਕੁ ਇਕ ਰੀਤਾਵੀਆ ॥
antar baahar ik ik reetaavee-aa.
Both within and without, she sees God pervading everywhere, and this becomes her only way of life.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬੱਸ! ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਚਰਣ ਦਾਸਾਵੀਆ ॥
man darsan kee pi-aas charan daasaavee-aa.
She craves for the blessed vision of God, and she always remains focused on His immaculate Name.
ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸੋਭਾ ਬਣੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਖਸਮਿ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਵੀਆ ॥
sobhaa banee seegaar khasam jaaN raavee-aa.
When the Master-God united her with Himself, then this union became her honor and embellishment.
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਸੋਭਾ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਿਲੀਆ ਆਇ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਜਾਂ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੀਆ ॥੧੫॥
milee-aa aa-ay sanjog jaaN tis bhaavee-aa. ||15||
When it so pleases God, then she is united with Him as per her destiny. ||15||
ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਤਾਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਲਬਧ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪਈ ॥ ੧੫॥

Shalok, Fifth Guru:
ਹਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੈਡੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਉ ਮੈ ਕੂ ਥੀਏ ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
habh gun taiday naanak jee-o mai koo thee-ay mai nirgun tay ki-aa hovai.
O’ Nanak, say, O’ dear God, all the virtues are Yours, You have bestowed those on me; what can I, the unworthy, do by myself?
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ, ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਥੋਂ ਗੁਣ-ਹੀਨ ਤੋਂ ਕੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।!
ਤਉ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਚਕੁ ਸਦਾ ਜਾਚੋਵੈ ॥੧॥
ta-o jayvad daataar na ko-ee jaachak sadaa jaachovai. ||1||
There is no other more generous benefactor like You, therefore I, the beggar, always begs from You. ||1||
ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਡਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਮੰਗਤਾ, ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਦੇਹ ਛਿਜੰਦੜੀ ਊਣ ਮਝੂਣਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਜਣਿ ਜੀਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ॥
dayh chhijand-rhee oon majhoonaa gur sajan jee-o Dharaa-i-aa.
My body was becoming weak day by day and I was feeling depressed, but when my friend, the Guru, gave me solace and moral support,
ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਢਹਿੰਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਖੋਹ ਪੈ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾਤੁਰ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ; ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਵਾਸ ਦਿੱਤਾ,
ਹਭੇ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਹੇਲੜਾ ਸੁਤਾ ਜਿਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
habhay sukh suhaylrhaa sutaa jitaa jag sabaa-i-aa. ||2||
I became totally comfortable; now I am at peace and it feels as if I have won the entire world. ||2||
ਤਾਂ (ਹੁਣ) ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਸੌਖਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹਾਂ, (ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਂ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਹਾਨ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਵਡਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਤਖਤੁ ॥
vadaa tayraa darbaar sachaa tuDh takhat.
O’ my God, magnificent is Your court (system of justice) and eternal is Your throne.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚਉਰੁ ਛਤੁ ॥
sir saahaa paatisaahu nihchal cha-ur chhat.
You are the emperor above all the kings and permanent is Your glory and crown.
ਤੇਰਾ ਚਵਰ ਤੇ ਛਤਰ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ, ਤੂੰ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈਂ।
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਆਉ ॥
jo bhaavai paarbarahm so-ee sach ni-aa-o.
That alone is true justice, which pleases God.
ਉਹੀ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਥਾਉ ॥
jay bhaavai paarbarahm nithaavay milai thaa-o.
If it so pleases God, even a homeless person gets a permanent place.
ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੇਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੋ ਕੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ਸਾਈ ਭਲੀ ਗਲ ॥
jo keenHee kartaar saa-ee bhalee gal.
That alone is the best thing for the beings, which the Creator has done for them.
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਉਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ (ਆਪ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਸੇ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਮਲ ॥
jinHee pachhaataa khasam say dargaah mal.
Those who have realized the Master-God, are considered champions against the vices in His presence.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਖ਼ਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ, ਉਹ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਪਹਿਲਵਾਨ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕੋਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ)।
ਸਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਫੇਰੀਐ ॥
sahee tayraa furmaan kinai na fayree-ai.
O’ God, always right is Your command which nobody has ever disobeyed.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮ (ਸਦਾ) ਠੀਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ (ਕਦੇ) ਉਹ ਮੋੜਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਕਾਰਣ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੇਰੀਐ ॥੧੬॥
kaaran karan kareem kudrat tayree-ai. ||16||
O’ merciful God, the cause of causes, this universe is Your creation. ||16||
ਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਰਚਨਹਾਰ! ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ (ਰਚੀ ਹੋਈ) ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਹੈ ॥੧੬॥

ਸੋਇ ਸੁਣੰਦੜੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੰਦੜੀ ਲਾਲੀ ॥
so-ay sunand-rhee mayraa tan man ma-ulaa naam japand-rhee laalee.
O’ God, just upon hearing about Your glory, my mind and body spiritually rejuvenate; while meditating on Your Name, I blush with happiness.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਸੋਆਂ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਲੀ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਧਿ ਜੁਲੰਦੜੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਦਰੁ ਠੰਢਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥੧॥
panDh juland-rhee mayraa andar thandhaa gur darsan daykh nihaalee. ||1||
While walking on the path towards You, my heart feels soothed and I feel delighted seeing the sight of the true Guru. ||1||
ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਿਆਂ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਠਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Fifth Guru:
ਹਠ ਮੰਝਾਹੂ ਮੈ ਮਾਣਕੁ ਲਧਾ ॥
hath manjhaahoo mai maanak laDhaa.
I have found the jewel-like precious Naam within my heart,
ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਲਾਲ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ,
ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਘਿਧਾ ਮੈ ਕੂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਤਾ ॥
mul na ghiDhaa mai koo satgur ditaa.
I did not buy it with any money, the true Guru gave it to me.
(ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ) ਮੁੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ, (ਇਹ ਲਾਲ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਢੂੰਢ ਵਞਾਈ ਥੀਆ ਥਿਤਾ ॥
dhoondh vanjaa-ee thee-aa thitaa.
My search has ended and I have become stable.
(ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਟਿਕ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ।
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਤਾ ॥੨॥
janam padaarath naanak jitaa. ||2||
O Nanak, I have achieved the benefit of this priceless human life. ||2||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੂਪ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਚੀਜ਼ (ਦਾ ਲਾਭ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Pauree:
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਇ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
jis kai mastak karam ho-ay so sayvaa laagaa.
One who is so predestined, engages in the devotional worship of God.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ (ਦਾ ਲੇਖ) ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥
jis gur mil kamal pargaasi-aa so an-din jaagaa.
One whose heart blossoms like a lotus upon meeting the Guru, he always remains alert to the onslaught of Maya.
ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ-ਕੰਵਲ ਖਿੜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਲਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਸਭੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
lagaa rang charnaarbind sabh bharam bha-o bhaagaa.
A person who is imbued with the love of God’s immaculate Name, his doubt and fear hastens away,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਦੇ ਮਨ) ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਦਾ ਭਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਡਰ ਭਉ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
