ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਹੋਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹੀ ॥
jin ka-o ho-aa kirpaal har say satgur pairee paahee.
Only they surrender themselves to the true Guru upon whom God becomes Gracious.
Ni wale tu wanajisalimu kwa Guru wa kweli ambao Mungu anaonesha fadhili.

ਤਿਨ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧੪॥
tin aithai othai mukh ujlay har dargeh paiDhay jaahee. ||14||
They are honored both here and hereafter, and they are honored His Court.
Wanaheshimika humu na baadaye, na wanaheshimika katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੨ ॥

Shalok, by the Second Guru:
Shalok, na Guru wa Pili:

ਜੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਸਾਂਈ ਨਾ ਨਿਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਡਾਰਿ ॥
jo sir saaN-ee naa nivai so sir deejai daar.
The head which does not bow before God should be cast off. (The person who does not pay obeisance to God is worthless).
Kichwa ambacho hakisujudu mbele za Mungu unafaa kutupwa mbali. (Mtu ambaye hatoi ibada kwa Mungu ni bure).

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਿੰਜਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਨਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿੰਜਰੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak jis pinjar meh birhaa nahee so pinjar lai jaar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, the human body in which there is no pain of separation from God, is worthless.

ਮੁੰਢਹੁ ਭੁਲੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਮੁਈਆਸੁ ॥
mundhhu bhulee naankaa fir fir janam mu-ee-aas.
O’ Nanak, the person who has forsaken God, stays forever in the cycles of birth and death.
Ee Nanak, mtu ambaye amemwacha Mungu, anabaki milele katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਕੈ ਭੋਲੜੈ ਗੰਦੇ ਡੁੰਮਿ ਪਈਆਸੁ ॥੨॥
kastooree kai bholrhai gunday dumm pa-ee-aas. ||2||
(She is like a deer) that, mistaking it as the musk (of God’s Name), has fallen into a foul-smelling pit of filth of worldly wealth.
(Yeye ni kama kulungu) ambayo, akimkosea kuwa zabadi (ya Jina la Mungu), ameanguka ndani mwa lindi yenye harufu mbaya ya uchafu wa utajiri wa kidunia.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਭਨਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ॥
so aisaa har naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai man mayray jo sabhnaa upar hukam chalaa-ay.
Meditate on that God, O my mind, whose Command rules over all.
Tafakari kuhusu huyo Mungu, Ee akili yangu, ambaye Amri yake inatawala kote.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
so aisaa har naam japee-ai man mayray jo antee a-osar la-ay chhadaa-ay.
O’ my mind, meditate on that God, only who can save us at the end from the cycles of birth and death.
Ee akili yangu, tafakari kuhusu Mungu huyo, ambaye pekee anaweza kutukomboa mwishoni kutoka mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਭੁਖ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
so aisaa har naam japee-ai man mayray jo man kee tarisnaa sabh bhukh gavaa-ay.
O’ my mind, remember with love and devotion that God, who removes all cravings and desires of the minds of his devotees.
Ee akili yangu, kumbuka kwa upendo na kujitolea Mungu huyo, anayeondoa tamaa na hamu zote za akili kutoka wafuasi wake.

ਸੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਤਿਨ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭਿ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
so gurmukh naam japi-aa vadbhaagee tin nindak dusat sabh pairee paa-a
All slanderers and wicked people ask for forgiveness and mercy from those fortunate Guru’s followers who always meditated on God’s Name.
Wazungumzaji kashfa na watu waovu wanaomba msamaha na huruma kutoka wale wafuasi wa Guru wenye bahati ambao daima walitafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.

ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਅਗੈ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਵਾਏ ॥੧੫॥
naanak naam araaDh sabhnaa tay vadaa sabh naavai agai aan nivaa-ay. ||15||
O’ Nanak, worship and adore the Naam, the Greatest Name of all, before which all come and bow.
Ee Nanak, abudu na usujudie Naam, Jina Kuu kabisa kwa yote, ambalo mbele yake wote wanakuja na kusujudu.

ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਲਖਣੀ ਮਨਿ ਖੋਟੈ ਕੂੜਿਆਰਿ ॥
vays karay kuroop kulkhanee man khotai koorhi-aar.
A self-conceited person is like an ugly woman of evil character and deceitful mind, who embellishes herself with good clothes.
Mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi ni kama mwanamke sura mbaya wa silika mbaya na akili ya udanganyifu, anayejipamba na mavazi mazuri.

ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਨਾ ਚਲੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਗਾਵਾਰਿ ॥
pir kai bhaanai naa chalai hukam karay gaavaar.
She (the unfortunate soul bride) does not live in harmony with the Will of her Master. Instead, she foolishly gives Him orders.
Yeye (roho kama bi harusi asiye na bahati) haishi katika maelewano na Wasia wa Bwana wake. Badala yake, kwa upumbavu anamtolea amri.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਿ ॥
gur kai bhaanai jo chalai sabh dukh nivaaranhaar.
But she (the fortunate soul-bride) who lives in harmony with the Guru’s Will, shall be spared all pain and suffering.
Lakini yeye (roho kama bi harusi mwenye bahati) anayeishi katika maelewano na Wasia wa Guru ataokolewa kutoka maumivu na kuteseka kwote.

ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮੇਟਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
likhi-aa mayt na sakee-ai jo Dhur likhi-aa kartaar.
That destiny which was pre-ordained by the Creator cannot be erased.
Hatima hiyo ambayo imeagiziwa mapema na Muumba haiwezi kufutwa.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਕੰਤ ਕਉ ਸਬਦੇ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
man tan sa-upay kant ka-o sabday Dharay pi-aar.
The fortunate soul-bride dedicates her mind and body to her Master, and lovingly follows the Guru’s word.
Roho kama bi harusi mwenye bahati anaweka wakfu akili na mwili wake kwa Bwana wake, na kwa upendo anafuata neno la Guru.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
bin naavai kinai na paa-i-aa daykhhu ridai beechaar.
Ponder in your mind and see for yourself that without always remembering God with love and devotion, no one has ever realized Him.
Chunguza akilini mwako na ujionee mwenyewe ya kwamba bila kumkumbuka Mungu daima kwa upendo na kujitolea, hakuna mtu amewahi kumgundua Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਸੁਆਲਿਓ ਸੁਲਖਣੀ ਜਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak saa su-aali-o sulakh-nee je raavee sirjanhaar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only that soul-bride is beautiful and virtuous, whom the Creator loves.
Ee Nanak, ni roho kama bi harusi huyo pekee ni mrembo na mwema, ambaye Muumba anampenda.

Na Guru wa Tatu:

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਨ ਦਿਸੈ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
maa-i-aa moh gubaar hai tis daa na disai urvaar na paar.
Love for Maya is like an ocean of darkness (spiritual ignorance), it’s beginning or end is not visible.
Kupenda Maya ni kama bahari ya giza (ujinga wa kiroho), mwanzo wake au mwisho hauwezi kuonekana.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਡੁਬੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥
manmukh agi-aanee mahaa dukh paa-iday dubay har naam visaar.
The ignorant, self-willed persons who forsake God, suffer great pain, and are drowned in the sea of vices.
Watu wajinga wenye wasia binafsi ambao wanamwacha Mungu, wanateseka uchungu mkubwa, na wanazama katika bahari ya dhambi.

ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
bhalkay uth baho karam kamaaveh doojai bhaa-ay pi-aar.
Every day they arise in the morning and perform all sorts of rituals, but they are caught in the love of duality (love for worldly things, rather than God).
Kila siku wanaamka asubuhi na kufanya aina zote za mila, lakini wanananswa katika upendo wa uwili (kupenda vitu vya kidunia, badala ya Mungu).

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਉਤਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
satgur sayveh aapnaa bha-ojal utray paar.
Those who serve and follow the teachings of the True Guru cross over the terrifying world-ocean of vices.
Wale wanaotumikia na kufuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli wanavuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi inayoogofya.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
naanak gurmukh sach samaaveh sach naam ur Dhaar. ||2||
O’ Nanak, by enshrining the true Naam in their hearts, the Guru’s followers merge with the eternal God.
Ee Nanak, kwa kuweka vizuri Naam halisi mioyoni mwao, wafuasi wa Guru wanaungana na Mungu wa milele.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥

Pauree:

ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
har jal thal mahee-al bharpoor doojaa naahi ko-ay.
God pervades the ocean, the land and the sky and there is none else beside Him.
Mungu anaenea kwenye bahari, ardhini na angani na hakuna mwengine pasi Yeye.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ਸਭ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੋਇ ॥
har aap bahi karay ni-aa-o koorhi-aar sabh maar kadho-ay.
God Himself sits in judgment. He chastises the false persons and drives them out of His court. (they are further separated from God).
Mungu mwenyewe anaketi kuhukumu. Yeye anaadhibu watu waongo na kuwafukuza kutoka mahakama yake. (wanatenganishwa zaidi kutoka kwa Mungu).

ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਉ ਕੀਓਇ ॥
sachi-aaraa day-ay vadi-aa-ee har Dharam ni-aa-o kee-o-ay.
God bestows glory upon those who are truthful. He administers righteous justice.
Mungu anatawaza utukufu kwa wale ambao wanatenda ukweli. Anatoa haki yenye uadilifu.

ਸਭ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਗਰੀਬ ਅਨਾਥ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਓਇ ॥
sabh har kee karahu ustat jin gareeb anaath raakh lee-o-i.
Everybody should praise God, Who has always protected the poor and the meek.
Kila mtu anapaswa kumsifu Mungu, ambaye daima amelinda maskini na wapole.

ਜੈਕਾਰੁ ਕੀਓ ਧਰਮੀਆ ਕਾ ਪਾਪੀ ਕਉ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੀਓਇ ॥੧੬॥
jaikaar kee-o dharmee-aa kaa paapee ka-o dand dee-o-i. ||16||
He honors the righteous and punishes the sinners.
Anaheshimu wenye haki na kuadhibu watenda dhambi.

A self-conceited person is like an ugly woman of evil character,
Mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi ni kama mwanamke sura mbaye wa silika mbaya,

ਪਿਰੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰ ਪੁਰਖੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
pir chhodi-aa ghar aapnaa par purkhai naal pi-aar.
who has forsaken her Master-God who dwells in her heart, and has fallen in love with worldly riches.
Ambaye amemwacha Bwana-Mungu wake anayeishi moyoni mwake, na amependezwa na utajiri wa kidunia.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਜਲਦੀ ਕਰੇ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
tarisnaa kaday na chuk-ee jaldee karay pookaar.
Her worldly desires are never satiated, and burning in these desires , she keeps wailing.
Kamwe tamaa zake za kidunia hazitoshelezwi, na akiteketea katika tamaa hizi, anaendelea kuomboleza.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੁਰੂਪਿ ਕੁਸੋਹਣੀ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਭਤਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
naanak bin naavai kuroop kusohanee parhar chhodee bhataar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, without Naam, the self-conceited person is like an ugly and ungraceful woman who has been deserted by her Master.
Ee Nanak, bila Naam, mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi ni kama mwanamke sura mbaya na machachari ambaye ameachwa na Bwana wake.
