ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
barahm gi-aanee aap nirankaar.
The God-conscious being himself is the Formless God (manifestation of God).
Kiumbe mwenyewe anayemfahamu Mungu ni Mungu asiye na maumbile (udhihirisho wa Mungu).

ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬਨੀ ॥
barahm gi-aanee kee sobhaa barahm gi-aanee banee.
The glory of the God-conscious being is befitting only to the God-conscious being.
Utukufu wa kiumbe anayemfahamu Mungu unastahili kiumbe anayemfahamu Mungu pekee.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸਰਬ ਕਾ ਧਨੀ ॥੮॥੮॥
naanak barahm gi-aanee sarab kaa Dhanee. ||8||8||
O’ Nanak, the God-conscious being is the Master of all. ||8||8||
Ee Nanak, kiumbe anayemfahamu Mungu ni Bwana wa vyote.

ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
ur Dhaarai jo antar naam.
One who enshrines Naam within the heart,
Yule anayethamini Naam moyoni mwake,

ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥
sarab mai paykhai bhagvaan.
who sees God absorbed in all,
anayemwona Mungu akivama katika kila kitu,

ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥
nimakh nimakh thaakur namaskaarai.
who each and every moment bows in reverence to the Master-God (remembers Him with love and devotion),
ambaye kila wakati anasujudu kwa heshima kwa Bwana-Mungu (anamkumbuka Yeye kwa upendo na ujitoaji),

ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥
naanak oh apras sagal nistaarai. ||1||
O’ Nanak, such a person is the true Aparas (untouched saint) who liberates all who come in his company from the cycle of birth and death. ||1||
Ee Nanak, mtu kama huyo ndiye Aparas wa kweli (mtakatifu ambaye hajaguswa) anayekomboa wote wanaokuja kwenye uandamano wake kutoka mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਪਰਸ ॥
mithi-aa naahee rasnaa paras.
One whose tongue does not touch falsehood; (One who does not say anything untrue),
Yule ambaye ulimi wake haugusi udanganyifu; (Yule ambaye hasemi chochote ambacho si ukweli),

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦਰਸ ॥
man meh pareet niranjan daras.
whose mind is filled with love for the Blessed Vision of the Pure (God);
ambaye akili yake imejawa na upendo wa Mwono Uliobarikiwa wa yule Safi (Mungu);

ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ॥
par tari-a roop na paykhai naytar.
whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of another’s woman,
ambaye macho yake hayatazami urembo wa mwanamke wa mwengine,

ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥
saaDh kee tahal satsang hayt.
who serves the Holy and loves the congregation of saints,
anayetumikia Watakatifu na anapenda ushirika wa watakatifu,

ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ॥
karan na sunai kaahoo kee nindaa.
whose ears do not listen to slander of anyone,
ambaye amasikio yake hayasikii uchongezi wa wengine,

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
sabh tay jaanai aapas ka-o mandaa.
who deems himself to be most humble of all (relinquishes ego),
anayejifikiria kuwa mnyenyekevu zaidi kwa wote (anaacha ubinafsi),

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
gur parsaad bikhi-aa parharai.
who by Guru’s Grace, gets rid of vices,
ambaye kwa Neema ya Guru, anaondoa maovu,

ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥
man kee baasnaa man tay tarai.
who banishes his evil desires from his mind,
anayefukuza hamu zake mbaya kutoka akilini mwake,

ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥
indree jit panch dokh tay rahat.
who conquers his faculties (senses) and is free of the five vices,
anayetawala vitivo vyake (hisi) na yuko huru kutoka maovu matano,

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਅਪਰਸ ॥੧॥
naanak kot maDhay ko aisaa apras. ||1||
O’ Nanak, among millions there is scarcely one such Aparas (untouched saint). ||1||
Ee Nanak, kati ya mamilioni ni nadra sana kuwa na Aparas (mtakatifu ambaye hajaguswa) mmoja kama huyo.

ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥
baisno so jis oopar suparsan.
A true Vaishnaav (devotee of Vishnu) is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased.
Vaishnaav wa kweli (mtawa wa Vishnu) ni yule ambaye Mungu amependezwa naye kikamilifu.

ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥
bisan kee maa-i-aa tay ho-ay bhinn.
He dwells apart from Maya (remains detached from the worldly illusions).
Anaishi akiwa amejitenga kutoka kwa Maya (anabaki amejitenga kutoka njozi za kidunia).

ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥
karam karat hovai nihkaram.
He performs good deeds but does not seek rewards.
Anatenda vitendo vyema bila kutarajia zawadi yoyote.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥
tis baisno kaa nirmal Dharam.
Spotlessly pure is the way of life of such a Vaishnaav (devotee of Lord Vishnu);
Safi bila doa ni mtindo wa maisha ya Vaishnaav (mtawa wa Bwana Vishnu) kama huyo;

ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥
kaahoo fal kee ichhaa nahee baachhai.
He has no desire for any reward of his deeds.
Yeye hana hamu ya tuzo yoyote kwa vitendo vyake.

ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥
kayval bhagat keertan sang raachai.
He is absorbed only in devotional meditation and singing praises of God.
Amevama tu katika kutafakari kwa ujitoaji na kuimba sifa za Mungu.

ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
man tan antar simran gopaal.
His mind and body are in constant remembrance of God.
Akili na mwili wake upo katika ukumbusho wa mara kwa mara wa Mungu.

ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
sabh oopar hovat kirpaal.
He is kind to all creatures.
Yeye ni mwenye fadhili kwa viumbe vyote.

ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥
aap darirhai avrah naam japaavai.
He meditates on God’s Name and inspires others to meditate as well.
Anatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu na kuhamasisha wengine kutafakari pia.

ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
naanak oh baisno param gat paavai. ||2||
O’ Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains supreme status. ||2||
Ee Nanak, Vaishnaav kama huyo anapata hadhi kuu.

ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
bhag-utee bhagvant bhagat kaa rang.
True devotee of God is one whose heart is filled with devotional worship of God.
Mtawa wa kweli wa Mungu ni yule ambaye moyo wake umejawa na ibada ya kujitolea kwa Mungu.

ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
sagal ti-aagai dusat kaa sang.
He forsakes the company of wicked people.
Anaacha uandamano wa watu waovu.

ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਰਮੁ ॥
man tay binsai saglaa bharam.
All doubts vanish from his heart.
Shaka zote zinapotea kutoka moyoni mwake.

ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੈ ਸਗਲ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥
kar poojai sagal paarbarahm.
He worships God with the belief that He is everywhere.
Yeye anaabudu Mungu kwa imani ya kwamba Yeye yupo kila mahali.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਵੈ ॥
saaDhsang paapaa mal khovai.
He washes away the filth of sins from his mind in the company of the Holy.
Anasafisha uchafu wa dhambi kutoka akilini mwake katika uandamano wa Watakatifu.

ਤਿਸੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
tis bhag-utee kee mat ootam hovai.
The wisdom of such a devotee of God becomes supreme.
Hekima ya mtawa wa Mungu kama huyo inakuwa kuu.

ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥
bhagvant kee tahal karai nit neet.
He remembers God with love and devotion each and every day.
Anamkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo na ujitoaji kila siku.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਬਿਸਨ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
man tan arpai bisan pareet.
He dedicates his mind and body to the Love of God.
Anaweka wakfu akili na mwili wake kwa Upendo wa Mungu.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
har kay charan hirdai basaavai.
He nurtures the virtues of God in his heart.
Anasitawisha fadhila za Mungu moyoni mwake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
naanak aisaa bhag-utee bhagvant ka-o paavai. ||3||
O’ Nanak, such a devotee of God experiences Him within himself. ||3||
Ee Nanak, mtawa wa Mungu kama huyo anamhisi Yeye ndani mwake.

ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥
so pandit jo man parboDhai.
He is a true Pundit, a religious scholar, who first instructs his own mind;
Yeye ni mbukuzi wa kweli, msomi wa kidini, ambaye kwanza anaagiza akili yake mwenyewe.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥
raam naam aatam meh soDhai.
and searches for Naam within his own soul.
Na kutafuta Naam ndani mwa roho yake.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੁ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥
raam naam saar ras peevai.
He experiences the supreme joy of meditating on God’s Name (drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of God’s Name).
Yeye anahisi furaha kuu ya kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu (anakunywa Nekta Bora ya Jina la Mungu).

ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵੈ ॥
us pandit kai updays jag jeevai.
By the teachings of such a Pundit, the whole world remains spiritually alive.
Kwa mafundisho ya Mbukuzi kama huyo, dunia nzima inabaki hai kiroho.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥
har kee kathaa hirdai basaavai.
He implants God’s virtues in his heart;
Yeye anapandikiza fadhila za Mungu moyoni mwake;

ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
so pandit fir jon na aavai.
such a Pundit does not go into the cycles of birth and death again.
Mbukuzi kama huyo haendi kwenye mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa tena.

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਮੂਲ ॥
bayd puraan simrit boojhai mool.
He understands that the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees (Holy books of Hindu religion) is God Himself.
Anaelewa kwamba kiini hicho cha kimsingi cha Vedas, Puranas na Smritees (vitabu takatifu vya dini ya Kihindu) ni Mungu Mwenyewe.

ਸੂਖਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥
sookham meh jaanai asthool.
In the unmanifest (God), he sees the manifest world to exist (He sees that the universe is the manifestation of the invisible God).
Kwa isiyodhihirika (Mungu), anaona dunia iliyodhihirika ikiwepo (Yeye anaona kwamba ulimwengu ni udhihirisho wa Mungu asiyeonekana).

ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
chahu varnaa ka-o day updays.
He preaches (same) instructions to people of all social classes.
Anahubiri maagizo (sawa) kwa watu wa matabaka yote ya kijamii.

ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸੁ ॥੪॥
naanak us pandit ka-o sadaa adays. ||4||
O’ Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ||4||
Ee Nanak, kwa mbukuzi kama huyo, nasujudu kwa heshima milele.

ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
beej mantar sarab ko gi-aan.
The Seed Mantra (Naam) is spiritual wisdom for everyone.
Mantra ya mbegu (Naam) ni hekima ya kiroho ya kila mtu.

ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
chahu varnaa meh japai ko-oo naam.
Anyone, from any class (or from any of the four castes) is open to meditate on Naam.
Mtu yeyote, kutoka tabaka lolote (au kutoka matabaka yoyote nne) anaweza kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
jo jo japai tis kee gat ho-ay.
Whoever contemplates on Naam is freed from the cycle of birth and death.
Yeyote anayetafakari kuhusu Naam anakombolewa kutoka mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
saaDhsang paavai jan ko-ay.
And yet, rare are those who attain it in the Company of the Holy.
Na ila, nadra ni wale wanaoufikia katika Uandamano wa Watakatifu.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥
kar kirpaa antar ur Dhaarai.
If by His Grace, He enshrines His Name in the heart of a person,
Iwapo kwa Neema yake, Yeye anathamini Jina Lake moyoni mwa mtu,

ਪਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਮੁਘਦ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੈ ॥
pas parayt mughad paathar ka-o taarai.
even if that person is like an animal, a ghost, a fool or is stone hearted, he still gets saved (from the cycle of birth and death).
Hata iwapo mtu huyo ni kama mnyama, kizuka, mpumbavu au mwenye moyo mgumu, bado anakombolewa (kutoka mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa).

ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
sarab rog kaa a-ukhad naam.
The Naam of God is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills.
Naam ya Mungu ni tiba, dawa ya kutibu magonjwa yote.

ਕਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥
kali-aan roop mangal gun gaam.
Singing the Glory of God is the sign of good fortune and embodiment of bliss.
Kuimba Utukufu wa Mungu ni ishara ya bahati nzuri na udhihirisho wa raha tele.

ਕਾਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਧਰਮਿ ॥
kaahoo jugat kitai na paa-ee-ai Dharam.
But Naam cannot be obtained by any specific technique or religious rituals.
Lakini Naam haiwezi kupatwa kwa mbinu au mila yoyote ya kidini.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥
naanak tis milai jis likhi-aa Dhur karam. ||5||
O’ Nanak, he alone obtains it, who is so pre-ordained. ||5||
Ee Nanak, yeye pekee anaipata, ambaye ameagiziwa hivyo mapema.

ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
jis kai man paarbarahm kaa nivaas.
One in whose heart is the abode of the Supreme God,
Yule ambaye moyo wake ni makao ya Mungu Mkuu,
