O’ my friends, the Guru is like a lake just like the beautiful lake Mansarover, and only very fortunate people find him.

These swan like pious devotees who have found out the lake like Guru, peck on the pearls like Naam. ||2||
Watawa hao watakatifu kama bata-maji ambao wamepata Guru kama ziwa, wanachakua Naam kama lulu.

The Guru’s followers lovingly remember God’s Name and remain attuned to it.

But only those who are predestined, accept the Guru’s will. ||3||

Those fortunate people who searched their own heart, found the treasure of Naam within it.
Watu hao wenye bahati nzuri ambao walitafuta moyoni mwao, walipata hazina ya Naam ndani mwao.

gur poorai vaykhaali-aa parabh aatam raam pachhaan. ||4||
The perfect Guru revealed to them this treasure of Naam and they realized the all-pervading God. ||4||

If by the Guru’s grace, one experiences God’s presence in his mind, then God becomes manifest in that person’s heart ||5||

This entire world is the embodiment of the all-pervading God, who is pervading everywhere.

buraa bhalaa tichar aakh-daa jichar hai duhu maahi.
One calls someone good or bad only as long as he is caught in duality.

If someone comes and unites me with my beloved God, then I would offer myself to that person. ||1||

O’ God, in order to get a glimpse of you,
Ee Mungu, ili kupata mwono mdogo wako Wewe,

O’ God, if You show mercy and unite me with the true Guru, then I would always keep meditating on Your Name. ||1||Pause||
||1||Sitisha||

O’ God, if You bless me with happiness I would contemplate on You, and even in the state of misery, I would lovingly remember You. ||2||

O’ God, I would cut my body and mind into pieces, offer it all to You, and wouldn’t hesitate to burn myself on fire, just to get a glimpse of You. ||4||
Ee Mungu, ningekata mwili na akili yangu iwe vipande vipande, kuviwasilisha vyote kwako, na singesita kujiteketeza motoni, kupata tu mwono mdogo wako Wewe.

I would wave a fan over Your devotees, carry water for them, and would happily eat whatever You provide. ||5||

O’ God, humble Nanak has surrendered to You; please unite him with Yourself. This would surely be Your greatness. ||6||
Ee Mungu, mnyenyekevu Nanak amejisalimisha kwako Wewe; tafadhali muunganishe nawe Mwenyewe.

O’ God, if You keep me near You, I would keep meditating on You, and even if You keep me away, I would still lovingly remember You. ||8||
Ee Mungu, iwapo uniweke mimi karibu na Wewe, ningeendelea kukutafakari Wewe, na hata iwapo uniweke mbali, bado ningekukumbuka Wewe kwa upendo.

If people praise me it would be Your glory, and if they slander me still I wouldn’t go away abandoning You. ||9||

O’ God! if I remain imbued with Your love then anyone can say anything; but if I forget You, then I would surely die spiritually. ||10||
Ee Mungu! Iwapo nibaki nimepenyezwa na upendo wako basi mtu anaweza kusema chochote; lakini iwapo nikusahau Wewe, basi bila shaka ningekufa kiroho.

I would dedicate myself again and again to the Guru, and bowing respectfully in front of him, I would try to please him. ||11||

O’ God, humble Nanak has become bewildered, yearning to behold Your blessed vision. ||12||
Ee Mungu, mnyenyekevu Nanak amefadhaika, akitamani kutazama mwono wako uliobarikiwa.

jhakharh jhaagee meehu varsai bhee gur daykhan jaa-ee. ||13||
Even if a violent storm is raging and torrential rain is falling, still braving that storm I would go to see the Guru. ||13||

samund saagar hovai baho khaaraa gursikh langh gur peh jaa-ee. ||14||
Even if there is a very vast and brackish sea in front of him, the Guru’s disciple would cross it and go to the Guru. ||14||

ji-o paraanee jal bin hai martaa ti-o sikh gur bin mar jaa-ee. ||15||
Just as one dies without water, similarly a devotee feels spiritually dead without meeting the Guru. ||15||
