ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ਚਲਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਏ ॥
man tan arpee aap gavaa-ee chalaa satgur bhaa-ay.
Shedding all my self-conceit from within, I surrender myself completely to the Guru and do what pleases the true Guru.
Nikiacha majivuno yangu yote kutoka ndani mwangu, najisalimu kabisa kwa Guru na kufanya chochote kinachopendeza Guru wa kweli.

ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥੭॥
sad balihaaree gur apunay vitahu je har saytee chit laa-ay. ||7||
Forever I dedicate myself to my Guru, who attunes my mind to God.
Milele najiweka wakfu kwa Guru wangu, ambaye amemakinisha akili yangu kwa Mungu.

ਸੋ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜੋ ਬਿੰਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
so baraahman barahm jo binday har saytee rang raataa.
The true Brahman (a person of higher social status) is the one who knows the Creator, and who is imbued with His love.
Brahman (mtu mwenye hadhi ya juu ya kijamii) wa kweli ni yule anayejua Muumba, na ambaye amejawa na upendo wake.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭਨਾ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
parabh nikat vasai sabhnaa ghat antar gurmukh virlai jaataa.
God actually dwells very near; in all the hearts, but only a few Guru’s followers realize this.
Kwa kweli Mungu anaishi karibu sana; katika mioyo yote, lakini ni wafuasi kidogo tu wa Guru ambao wanagundua jambo hili.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੫॥੨੨॥
naanak naam milai vadi-aa-ee gur kai sabad pachhaataa. ||8||5||22||
O’ Nanak, it is only by realizing God through the Guru’s word, one obtains honor in this world and in God’s Court.
Ee Nanak, ni kwa kugundua Mungu tu kupitia neno la Guru, ambapo mtu anapata heshima duniani humu na katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਸਹਜੈ ਨੋ ਸਭ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sahjai no sabh lochdee bin gur paa-i-aa na jaa-ay.
The entire world craves for intuitive peace, but without the guidance of the Guru it cannot be attained.
Dunia nzima ina hamu ya amani angavu, lakini bila mwongozo wa Guru haiwezi kupatwa.

ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋਤਕੀ ਥਕੇ ਭੇਖੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
parh parh pandit jotkee thakay bhaykhee bharam bhulaa-i.
The pandits and the astrologers have grown weary of extensive reading about it, and even the people wearing holy garbs have been lost in delusion.
Walimu wa busara na wanajimu wamechoka kwa kusoma kwingi kuihusu, na hata watu wanaovaa mavazi takatifu wamepotea katika udanganyifu.

ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
gur bhaytay sahj paa-i-aa aapnee kirpaa karay rajaa-ay. ||1||
It is only when God has shown His grace that mortals have met the Guru and following his teachings, have attained the state of equipoise.
Ni wakati tu ambapo Mungu ameonyesha neema yake ambapo binadamu wamekutana na Guru na kufuata mafundisho yake, wamepata hali hiyo ya usawa.

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray gur bin sahj na ho-ay.
O’ Brothers, without the Guru’s teaching state of equipoise can not be obtained.
Ee ndugu, bila mafundisho ya Guru hali ya usawa haiwezi kupatwa.

ਸਬਦੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸਹਜੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sabdai hee tay sahj oopjai har paa-i-aa sach so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Only by focusing one’s mind to the Guru’s word does one attain state of equipoise and the eternal God is realized.
Ni kwa kumakinisha tu akili ya mtu kwa neno la Guru ambapo mtu anapokea hali ya usawa na Mungu wa milele anagunduliwa.

ਸਹਜੇ ਗਾਵਿਆ ਥਾਇ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਕਥਨੀ ਬਾਦਿ ॥
sehjay gaavi-aa thaa-ay pavai bin sahjai kathnee baad.
Only the singing of God’s praises in a state of poise is accepted in God’s Court, and without that it is all in vain.
Ni kuimba tu kwa sifa za Mungu katika hali ya utulivu kunakokubalika katika mahakama ya Mungu, na bila hiyo yote ni bure.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥
sehjay hee bhagat oopjai sahj pi-aar bairaag.
Only in a state of mental peace that real devotion emanates and God’s love and detachment from the world are achieved.
Ni katika hali ya amani ya kiakili pekee ambayo ibada ya kweli hutokea na upendo wa Mungu na kujitenga kutoka dunia kunatimizwa.

ਸਹਜੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੨॥
sahjai hee tay sukh saat ho-ay bin sahjai jeevan baad. ||2||
Only in a state of equipoise, joy and peace arises, and without this tranquility, the entire life is in vain.
Ni katika hali ya usawa pekee, ambapo furaha na amani hutokea, na bila utulivu huu, maisha mzima ni bure.

ਸਹਜਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥
sahj saalaahee sadaa sadaa sahj samaaDh lagaa-ay.
(O’ my friend), always praise God and remember Him in a state of calmness.
(Ee rafiki wangu), daima sifu Mungu na umkumbuke Yeye katika hali ya utulivu.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਊਚਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
sehjay hee gun oochrai bhagat karay liv laa-ay.
One who intuitively sings praises of God, and attunes to devotional worships,
Yule ambaye anaimba sifa za Mungu kiangavu, na kumakinikia ibada ya kujitolea,

ਸਬਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥
sabday hee har man vasai rasnaa har ras khaa-ay. ||3||
by following the Guru’s word God comes to dwell in the heart, and one tastes the sublime essence of God’s Name.
kwa kufuata neno la Guru, Mungu anakuja kuishi moyoni, na mtu anaonja kiini tukufu cha Jina la Mungu.

ਸਹਜੇ ਕਾਲੁ ਵਿਡਾਰਿਆ ਸਚ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
sehjay kaal vidaari-aa sach sarnaa-ee paa-ay.
By taking the refuge of the eternal God and attaining the state of mental calmness, they have erased the fear of death from their minds,
Kwa kuchukua kificho cha Mungu wa milele na kupata hali ya utulivu wa kiakili, wamefuta uwoga wa kifo kutoka akilini mwao.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
sehjay har naam man vasi-aa sachee kaar kamaa-ay.
by performing truthful righteous deeds, God’s Name intuitively come to dwell in their minds.
Kwa kutenda vitendo vya kweli na vya haki, Jina la Mungu linakuja kuishi katika akili zao.

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥
say vadbhaagee jinee paa-i-aa sehjay rahay samaa-ay. ||4||
Those who have realized Him are very fortunate; they remain intuitively absorbed in Him.
Wale ambao wamegundua Mungu wana bahati mno; wao wanabaki wamezama kiangavu kwake.

ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa vich sahj na oopjai maa-i-aa doojai bhaa-ay.
This state of equipoise doesn’t arise while being attached to Maya, because Maya leads to the love of duality.
Hali hii ya usawa haitokei ukiwa umeambatana na Maya, kwa sababu Maya inaelekeza kwa upendo wa uwili.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਲੈ ਜਲਾਇ ॥
manmukh karam kamaavnay ha-umai jalai jalaa-ay.
Deeds done by self-conceited persons are nothing but burning oneself and others in ego.
Vitendo vinavyotendwa na watu wenye majivuno ya kibinafsi sio chochote ila kujichoma na kuchoma wengine kwa ubinafsi.

ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
jaman maran na chook-ee fir fir aavai jaa-ay. ||5||
His cycle of birth and rebirth does not end and he keeps coming and going (from this world) again and again.
Mzunguko wake wa kuzaliwa na kuzaliwa upya hautamatiki na anaendelea kuja na kuenda (kutoka dunia hii) tena na tena.

ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
tarihu gunaa vich sahj na paa-ee-ai tarai gun bharam bhulaa-ay.
While living under the three modes of Maya (vice, virtue and power), state of equipoise is not achieved, these three impulses lead to delusion and doubt.
Wakati anaishi chini ya mbinu tatu za Maya (dhambi, fadhila na mamlaka), hali ya usawa haitimizwi, misukumo hii tatu inaelekeza kwa udanganyifu na shaka.

ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਣੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਕਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਮੁੰਢਹੁ ਘੁਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
parhee-ai gunee-ai ki-aa kathee-ai jaa mundhhu ghuthaa jaa-ay.
What is the point of reading, studying and debating, if one loses his roots?(going away from the fundamental concept of love for God and His creation)
Kuna haja gani ya kusoma, kuelimika na kujadiliana, iwapo mtu anapoteza misingi yake? (kupotoka kutoka dhana ya kimsingi ya upendo wa Mungu na uumbaji wake)

ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਜੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੬॥
cha-uthay pad meh sahj hai gurmukh palai paa-ay. ||6||
Spiritual bliss and tranquility is obtained in the fourth stage of spiritual advancement. This is attained by the Guru’s grace.
Furaha tele ya kiroho na utulivu inapatikana katika hatua ya nne ya maendeleo ya kiroho. Hii inapatikana kwa neema ya Guru.

ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
nirgun naam niDhaan hai sehjay sojhee ho-ay.
Naam, which is unaffected by all the modes of Maya, is the true treasure. This understanding comes only in the state of equipoise (sehaj)
Naam, ambayo haiathiriwi na mbinu zote za Maya, ni hazina ya kweli. Uelewa huu unakuja tu katika hali ya usawa (sehaj)

ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
gunvantee salaahi-aa sachay sachee so-ay.
The virtuous people, praise God saying “True is the glory of the True One.
Watu wema, wanasifu Mungu wakisema “Wa kweli ni utukufu wa yule Mmoja wa kweli.”

ਭੁਲਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਸੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥
bhuli-aa sahj milaa-isee sabad milaavaa ho-ay. ||7||
God will (one day) imperceptibly unite with Himself, those who have gone astray, but this union will happen only through the Guru’s word.
Mungu (siku moja) kwa njia isiyoonekana ataunganisha naye, wale ambao wamepotea, lakini muungano huu utafanyika tu kupitia neno la Guru.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੈ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
bin sahjai sabh anDh hai maa-i-aa moh gubaar.
Without Spiritual Calmness, it is all spiritual darkness, ignorance, and illusion of worldly attachment.
Bila utulivu wa kiroho, yote ni giza ya kiroho, ujinga, na ndoto ya kiambatisho cha kidunia.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
sehjay hee sojhee pa-ee sachai sabad apaar.
Through the Guru’s word, some have intuitively obtained the realization of theInfinite God.
Kupitia neno la Guru, wengine kiangavu wamepata utambuzi wa Mungu asiye na mwisho.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੮॥
aapay bakhas milaa-i-an pooray gur kartaar. ||8||
Granting forgiveness, the Perfect Guru unites the mortal with the Creator.
Akiruzuku msamaha, Guru kamili anaunganisha binadamu na Muumba.

ਸਹਜੇ ਅਦਿਸਟੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
sehjay adisat pachhaanee-ai nirbha-o jot nirankaar.
Only in a state of equipoise we recognize the invisible (Creator), and the light of the Formless and Fearless God.
Ni katika hali ya usawa ambapo tunatambua asiyeonekana (Muumba, na mwanga wa Mungu asiye na muundo wala uoga wowote.

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
sabhnaa jee-aa kaa ik daataa jotee jot milaavanhaar.
He alone is the provider of all beings, and can unite their light with His own supreme light.
Yeye mwenyewe ni mtoa huduma kwa viumbe vyote, na anaweza kuunganisha mwanga wao na Mwanga Mkuu wake.

ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥੯॥
poorai sabad salaahee-ai jis daa ant na paaraavaar. ||9||
We should praise Him through the Guru’s word, there is no end of His virtues.
Tunafaa kumsifu kupitia neno la Guru, hakuna mwisho wa fadhila zake.

ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
gi-aanee-aa kaa Dhan naam hai sahj karahi vaapaar.
For the enlightened ones, Naam is their true wealth, and they trade in and acquire it in a state of equipoise.
Kwa wale walioangazwa, Naam ni utajiri wa kweli, na wanafanya biashara na kuipata katika hali ya usawa.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੈਨਿ ਅਖੁਟ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥
an-din laahaa har naam lain akhut bharay bhandaar.
They always earn the wealth of God’s Name, which ia an inexhaustible and overflowing treasure.
Daima wanapata utajiri wa Jina la Mungu, ambayo ni hazina isiyoisha na inayomiminika.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਦੀਏ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੦॥੬॥੨੩॥
naanak tot na aavee dee-ay dayvanhaar. ||10||6||23||
O’ Nanak, there is never any shortage of this treasure, which the Giver has bestowed on them.
Ee Nanak, kamwe hakuna upungufu wa hazina hii, ambayo mtoaji ametawaza kwao.
