ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਪਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੰਤ ॥
mat pooree parDhaan tay gur pooray man mant.
Perfect is the intellect and most distinguished is the reputation of those who enshrine in their mind the teachings of the Perfect Guru.
Kamili ni akili na mashuhuri ni sifa ya wale wanaothamini akilini mwao mafundisho ya Guru Kamili.

ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥੧॥
jih jaani-o parabh aapunaa naanak tay bhagvant. ||1||
O’ Nanak, very fortunate are those who have realized the beloved God. ||1||
Ee Nanak, wamebahatika sana wale ambao wamegundua Mungu mpendwa.

ਮਮਾ ਜਾਹੂ ਮਰਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥
mamaa jaahoo maram pachhaanaa.
Mamma, an alphabet: One who has understood the secret that God is always with us,
Mamma, alfabeti: Yule ambaye ameelewa siri kwamba Mungu daima yupo nasi,

ਭੇਟਤ ਸਾਧਸੰਗ ਪਤੀਆਨਾ ॥
bhaytat saaDhsang patee-aanaa.
joining the holy congregation he fully convinces his mind about this belief.
Kwa kujiunga na ushirika takatifu anashawishi akili yake kikamilifu kuhusu itikadi hii.

ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਉਆ ਕੈ ਸਮਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
dukh sukh u-aa kai samat beechaaraa.
He considers both pleasure and pain as the same.
Anafikiria raha za uchungu kuwa sawa.

ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਰਹਤ ਅਉਤਾਰਾ ॥
narak surag rahat a-utaaraa.
He is saved from the effects of extreme sufferings and pleasures.
Yeye anaokolewa kutoka athari za mateso na raha zilizokithiri.

ਤਾਹੂ ਸੰਗ ਤਾਹੂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪਾ ॥
taahoo sang taahoo nirlaypaa.
He beholds God both within and detached from him.
Anatazama Mungu ndani mwake na pia akiwa amejitenda kutoka kwake.

ਪੂਰਨ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਸੇਖਾ ॥
pooran ghat ghat purakh bisaykhaa.
He beholds the perfect God pervading each and every heart.
Yeye anatazama Mungu kamili akienea katika kila moyo.

ਉਆ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਉਆਹੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
u-aa ras meh u-aahoo sukh paa-i-aa.
He attains peace by enjoying the pleasure of that belief
Anapata amani kwa kufurahia raha ya itikadi hiyo

ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਪਤ ਨਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੪੨॥
naanak lipat nahee tih maa-i-aa. ||42||
O Nanak, Maya does not affect him at all. ||42||

ਯਾਰ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਾਜਨਹੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਛੂਟਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
yaar meet sun saajanhu bin har chhootan naahi.
Listen, O’ my dear friends and companions, without meditating on God’s Name there can be no deliverance from worldly bonds.
Sikizeni, Ee marafiki na wendani wangu wa dhati, bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu hakuwezi kuwa na ukombozi kutoka vifungo vya kidunia.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
naanak tih banDhan katay gur kee charnee paahi. ||1||
O’ Nanak, only the worldly bonds of those persons are cut off who seek the shelter of the Guru. ||1||

ਯਯਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧੀਆ ॥
ya-yaa jatan karat baho biDhee-aa.
Yayya, an alphabet: One tries to obtain release from worldly bonds in many ways,
Yayya, alfabeti: Mtu anajaribu kupata uhuru kutoka vifungo vya kidunia kwa njia nyingi,

ਏਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਹ ਲਉ ਸਿਧੀਆ ॥
ayk naam bin kah la-o siDhee-aa.
but without meditating on Naam, one cannot succeed.
Lakini bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam, mtu hawezi kufanikiwa.

ਯਾਹੂ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਹੋਤ ਛੁਟਾਰਾ ॥
yaahoo jatan kar hot chhutaaraa.
The efforts by which freedom from worldly bonds can be attained
Jitihada ambazo kuzipitia uhuru kutoka vifungo vya kidunia unaweza kupatwa

ਉਆਹੂ ਜਤਨ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਰਾ ॥
u-aahoo jatan saaDh sangaaraa.
those efforts are joining the holy congregation.
Jitihada hizo ni kuungana na ushirika takatifu.

ਯਾ ਉਬਰਨ ਧਾਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਊ ॥
yaa ubran Dhaarai sabh ko-oo.
Though everyone entertains the ideas of freedom from worldly bonds,
Hata iwapo kila mtu anafikiria dhana ya uhuru kutoka vifungo vya kidunia,

ਉਆਹਿ ਜਪੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਉਬਰ ਨ ਹੋਊ ॥
u-aahi japay bin ubar na ho-oo.
yet, there can be no release from bonds of Maya without remembering God.
Ila, hakuwezi kuwa na uhuru kutoka vifungo vya Maya bila kumkumbuka Mungu.

ਯਾਹੂ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਾਥਾ ॥
yaahoo taran taaran samraathaa.
O’ God, like a ship, You alone are capable of taking us across this worldly ocean.
Ee Mungu, kama meli, Wewe peke yako unaweza kutuvukisha bahari hii ya kidunia.

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਨਰਨਾਥਾ ॥
raakh layho nirgun narnaathaa.
O’ God, please save us, the evil beings!
Ee Mungu, tafadhali tuokoe, viumbe waovu! )

ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਜਨਾਈ ॥
man bach karam jih aap janaa-ee.
O’ God, they in whose minds, words and deeds, You Yourself instill the spiritual wisdom,
Ee Mungu, wale ambao katika akili, maneno na vitendo vyao, Wewe Mwenyeweumeweka hekima ya kiroho,

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਮਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਆਈ ॥੪੩॥
naanak tih mat pargatee aa-ee. ||43||
their intellect is enlightened and they are released from the worldly bond, says Nanak. ||43||
akili yao inaangazwa na wanakombolewa kutoka kifungo cha kidunia, asema Nanak.

ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਸੰਗ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਨ ਆਪੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
ros na kaahoo sang karahu aapan aap beechaar.
Do not be angry with anyone else; instead look within your own self.
Usikasirikie yeyote mwengine, badala yake angalia ndani mwa nafsi yako.

ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਨਾ ਜਗਿ ਰਹਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
ho-ay nimaanaa jag rahhu naanak nadree paar. ||1||
O’ Nanak, if you live in this world remaining humble then by God’s Grace you would swim across this worldly ocean of vices. ||1||
Ee Nanak, iwapo uishi duniani humu ukibaki mnyenyekevu basi kwa Neema ya Mungu utaogelea ukivuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi.

ਰਾਰਾ ਰੇਨ ਹੋਤ ਸਭ ਜਾ ਕੀ ॥ ਤਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਛੁਟੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਕੀ ॥
raaraa rayn hot sabh jaa kee.
taj abhimaan chhutai tayree baakee.Rarra (an alphabet): Shed your ego before the Guru, before whom all the rest of the world becomes humble like dust, so that the balance of your account of the past sins may be wiped off.
Rarra (alfabeti): Ondoa ubinafsi wako mbele ya Guru, ambaye mbele yake dunia nzima inakuwa nyenyekevu kama mchanga, ili baki la akaunti yako ya dhambi za awali iweze kufutwa.

ਰਣਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਤਉ ਸੀਝਹਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
ran dargahi ta-o seejheh bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, you would win the battle of life and obtain honor in God’s courts.
Ee ndugu, utashinda vita ya maisha na upate heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਜਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
ja-o gurmukh raam naam liv laa-ee.
only when through the Guru’s teachings, you would attune your mind to God’s Name.
wakati tu kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, umakinishe akili yako kwa Jina la Mungu.

ਰਹਤ ਰਹਤ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
rahat rahat reh jaahi bikaaraa.
All the vices are eradicated slowly and steadily,
Dhambi zote zinaondolewa polepole na kwa utaratibu,

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
gur pooray kai sabad apaaraa.
by reflecting on the perfect Guru’s words of infinite spiritual wisdom.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu maneno ya Guru kamili ya hekima ya kiroho isiyo na mwisho.

ਰਾਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ॥
raatay rang naam ras maatay.
They remain imbued with God’s Love and elated with the nectar of Naam,
Wanabaki wamevama na Upendo wa Mungu na kufurahia kwa nekta ya Naam,

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਨੀ ਦਾਤੇ ॥੪੪॥
naanak har gur keenee daatay. ||44||
whom the Guru has blessed with the gift of Naam, says Nanak. ||44||

ਲਾਲਚ ਝੂਠ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਇਆ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਬਾਸ ॥
laalach jhooth bikhai bi-aaDh i-aa dayhee meh baas.
Ordinarily, this body remains afflicted with greed, falsehood and vices,
Kwa kawaida, mwili huu unabaki umeathiriwa na tamaa, udanganyifu na maovu,

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੂਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥੧॥
har har amrit gurmukh pee-aa naanak sookh nivaas. ||1||
but the Guru’s follower who has partaken the ambrosial nectar of God’s Name, lives in peace, says Nanak. ||1||
Lakini mfuasi wa Guru ambaye ameshiriki nekta ya ambrosia ya Jina la Mungu, anaishi kwa amani, asema Nanak.

ਲਲਾ ਲਾਵਉ ਅਉਖਧ ਜਾਹੂ ॥
lalaa laava-o a-ukhaDh jaahoo.
Lalla, an alphabet: Whoever takes the medicine of Naam,
Lalla, alfabeti: Yeyote ambaye anakunywa dawa ya Naam,

ਦੂਖ ਦਰਦ ਤਿਹ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਖਿਨਾਹੂ ॥
dookh darad tih miteh khinaahoo.
the spiritual pains and sorrows of that person vanish in an instant.
Maumivu na huzuni za kiroho za mtu huyo zinapotea papo hapo.

ਨਾਮ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਜਿਹ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਿਤਾਵੈ ॥
naam a-ukhaDh jih ridai hitaavai.
One in whose heart the medicine of God’s Name is dear,
Yule ambaye moyoni mwake dawa ya Jina la Mungu ni ya dhati sana,

ਤਾਹਿ ਰੋਗੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
taahi rog supnai nahee aavai.
that person is not afflicted by any spiritual malady or vices even in dreams.
Mtu huyo haathiriwi na ugonjwa wowote wa kiroho au maovu hata katika ndoto.

ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ॥
har a-ukhaDh sabh ghat hai bhaa-ee.
O’ brothers, this medicine of God’s Name is present in all hearts,
Ee ndugu, dawa hii ya Jina la Mungu ipo katika mioyo yote,

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
gur pooray bin biDh na banaa-ee.
but without the perfect Guru’s teachings, no one knows the way to use it.
Lakini bila mafundisho ya Guru kamili, hakuna mtu anajua njia ya kuitumia.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
gur poorai sanjam kar dee-aa.
The Perfect Guru has laid down the precautions to use it.
Guru Kamili ameweka tahadhari za kuitumia.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਉ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖ ਨ ਥੀਆ ॥੪੫॥
naanak ta-o fir dookh na thee-aa. ||45||
O’ Nanak, one who uses it and sticks to the precautions, does not endure any sorrow again. ||45||
Ee Nanak, yule anayeitumia na kufuata tahadhari, havumilii huzuni tena.

ਵਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਮੈ ਊਨ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਠਾਇ ॥
vaasudayv sarbatar mai oon na kathoo thaa-ay.
God is pervading everywhere. There is no place where He does not exist.
Mungu anaenea kote. Hakuna pahali ambapo Yeye hayupo.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਇ ਦੁਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
antar baahar sang hai naanak kaa-ay duraa-ay. ||1||
O’ Nanak, always and everywhere God is with us. What could be hidden from Him? ||1||
Ee Nanak, daima na mahali pote Mungu yupo nasi. Ni kipi kinaweza kufichwa kutoka kwake?

ਵਵਾ ਵੈਰੁ ਨ ਕਰੀਐ ਕਾਹੂ ॥
vavaa vair na karee-ai kaahoo.
Vaava, an alphabet: We should not have enmity with anyone,
Vaava, alfabeti: Hatufai kuwa na chuki na mtu yeyote,

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਮਾਹੂ ॥
ghat ghat antar barahm samaahoo.
because God pervades each and every heart.
Kwa sababu Mungu anaenea katika kila moyo.

ਵਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿਆ ॥
vaasudayv jal thal meh ravi-aa.
Yes, God is permeating all waters and the lands.
Ndio, Mungu anapenyeza maji na ardhi yote.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਹੀ ਗਵਿਆ ॥
gur parsaad virlai hee gavi-aa.
However, rare is the one who through the Guru’s grace, has realized Him.
Hata hivyo, nadra ni yule ambaye kupitia neema ya Guru, amemgundua Yeye.

ਵੈਰ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਮਿਟੇ ਤਿਹ ਮਨ ਤੇ ॥
vair viroDh mitay tih man tay.
All enmity and hostility is erased from the mind of those
Chuki na uhasama wote unafutwa kutoka akili ya wale

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਸੁਨਤੇ ॥
har keertan gurmukh jo suntay.
Guru’s followers, who listen to God’s praises.
Wafuasi wa Guru, wanaosikiliza sifa za Mungu.

ਵਰਨ ਚਿਹਨ ਸਗਲਹ ਤੇ ਰਹਤਾ ॥
varan chihan saglah tay rahtaa.
they rise above the notion of all social classes and status symbols.
Wanazidi dhana ya tabaka la kijamii na ishara za hadhi.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਕਹਤਾ ॥੪੬॥
naanak har har gurmukh jo kahtaa. ||46||
O’ Nanak, the Guru’s followers who meditate on God’s Name attain this state of mind. ||46||
Ee Nanak, wafuasi wa Guru wanaotafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu wanapata hali hii ya akili.
