ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਥਾਉ ॥
bhaa-ee ray avar naahee mai thaa-o.
O’ brother, Except the Guru, there is no other place for me to go.
Ee ndugu, isipokuwa kwa Guru, hakuna mahali pengine ambapo naweza kuenda.

ਮੈ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mai Dhan naam niDhaan hai gur dee-aa bal jaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru has given me the Treasure of the Wealth of the Naam; I am a sacrifice to Him.
Guru amenipa hazina ya utajiri wa Naam; mimi ni dhabihu kwake.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥
gurmat pat saabaas tis tis kai sang milaa-o.
The Guru’s Teachings bring honor. Blessed is the Guru, may I meet and be with Him.
Mafundisho ya Guru yanaleta heshima. Amebarikiwa Guru, naomba nikutana na nikae naye.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਊ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
tis bin gharhee na jeev-oo bin naavai mar jaa-o.
Without Him, I cannot live, even for a moment. Without His Name I am spiritually dead.
Bila Yeye, siwezi kuishi, hata kwa muda mfupi. Bila Jina lake, nimekufa kiroho.

ਮੈ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਟੇਕ ਟਿਕੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੨॥
mai anDhulay naam na veesrai tayk tikee ghar jaa-o. ||2||
I am spiritually blind, May I never forget Naam. With Guru’s support and blessings, I shall unite with God and reach my true home.
Mimi ni kipofu kiroho, naomba nisiwahi sahau Naam. Kwa msaada na baraka za Guru, nitaungana na Mungu na kufikia nyumbani mwangu mwa kweli.

ਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥
guroo jinaa kaa anDhulaa chaylay naahee thaa-o.
Those, whose Guru is spiritually blind cannot find true home (unite with God).
Wale, ambao Guru wao ni kipofu kiroho hawawezi kupata nyumbani mwa kweli (kuungana na Mungu).

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
bin satgur naa-o na paa-ee-ai bin naavai ki-aa su-aa-o.
Without the Guru, Naam is not obtained and without Naam there is no purpose of human life.
Bila Guru, Naam haipatikani na bila Naam hakuna kusudi ya maisha ya uanadamu.

ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥੩॥
aa-ay ga-i-aa pachhutaavnaa ji-o sunjai ghar kaa-o. ||3||
(Without God’s Name), our coming and departing from (this world) makes us repent like a crow visiting a deserted house.
(Bila Jina la Mungu), kuja na kuondoka kwetu kutoka (dunia hii) kunatufanya tutubu kama kunguru anayetembelea nyumba iliyoachwa.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜਿਉ ਕਲਰ ਕੀ ਭੀਤਿ ॥
bin naavai dukh dayhuree ji-o kalar kee bheet.
Without Naam, the body suffers in pain and crumbles like a wall of sand.
Bila Naam, mwili unateseka kwa uchungu na kubomoka kama ukuta wa mchanga.

ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
tab lag mahal na paa-ee-ai jab lag saach na cheet.
We cannot realize God until we enshrine the eternal God in our heart.
Hatuwezi kugundua Mungu hadi tuweke vizuri Mungu wa milele moyoni mwetu.

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਪੈ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ਪਦੁ ਨੀਤਿ ॥੪॥
sabad rapai ghar paa-ee-ai nirbaanee pad neet. ||4||
It is only by becoming imbued in the Guru’s word, that we obtain self-realization, and reach the desire-free eternal state.
Ni kwa kumakinikia neno la Guru, ambapo tunapata utambuzi wa kibinafsi, na kufikia hali iliyo huru kutoka tamaa ya milele

ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਛਉ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰ ਪੁਛਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਉ ॥
ha-o gur poochha-o aapnay gur puchh kaar kamaa-o.
(And to obtain such state) I should ask for the advice of my Guru, and after asking Him, I should act accordingly.
(Na kupokea hali kama hiyo) Napaswa kuulizia ushauri wa Guru wangu, na baada ya kumuuliza, nafaa kutenda kulingana na ushauri wake.

ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
sabad salaahee man vasai ha-umai dukh jal jaa-o.
I would praise the God through Guru’s word, so that He may stay in my heart and the pain caused by my ego may be burnt down.
Ningesifu Mungu kupitia neno la Guru, ndiposa Mungu aweze kubaki moyoni mwangu na uchungu uliosababishwa na ubinafsi wangu uangamizwe.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੫॥
sehjay ho-ay milaavrhaa saachay saach milaa-o. ||5||
Intuitively the blissful union with God may take place, and through His eternal Name I may get united with the eternal God Himself.
Kwa urahisi muungano kwa furaha tele na Mungu uweze kufanyika, na kupitia Jina lake la milele niweze kuungana na Mungu mwenyewe wa milele.

ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
sabad ratay say nirmalay taj kaam kroDh ahaNkaar.
Those who are attuned to the Guru’s word, renouncing lust, anger, selfishness and conceit, they live righteously.
Wale ambao wamemakinikia neno la Guru, wanakataa usherati, hasira, uchoyo na majivuno, wanaishi kwa haki.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਸਦ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
naam salaahan sad sadaa har raakhahi ur Dhaar.
They sing the Praises of Naam, and always keep God enshrined in their heart.
Wanaimba sifa za Naam, na daima wanaweka Mungu vizuri moyoni mwao.

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਐ ਸਭ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
so ki-o manhu visaaree-ai sabh jee-aa kaa aaDhaar. ||6||
How could we ever forget Him from our minds who is the Support of all beings?
Tutawezaje kumsahau kutoka akili zetu ambaye ni nguzo ya viumbe vyote?

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ॥
sabad marai so mar rahai fir marai na doojee vaar.
One, who becomes unaffected by vices by following the Guru’s word remains unaffected and never again experiences spiritual death.
Yule, ambaye haathiriwi na dhambi kwa kufuata neno la Guru anabaki bila athari zozote na kamwe hapitii kifo cha kiroho tena.

ਸਬਦੈ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sabdai hee tay paa-ee-ai har naamay lagai pi-aar.
This righteous lifestyle is obtained through the Guru’s word and we develop Love for God’s Name.
Mtindo wa maisha wa haki unapatwa kupitia neno la Guru na tunaendeleza upendo kwa Jina la Mungu.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੭॥
bin sabdai jag bhoolaa firai mar janmai vaaro vaar. ||7||
Without following the Guru’s teaching, the world goes astray from this righteous life and keeps going in the rounds of birth and death.
Bila kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, dunia inapotoka kutoka maisha ya haki na inaendelea kuenda ndani mwa mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਸਭ ਸਾਲਾਹੈ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਵਡਹੁ ਵਡੇਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
sabh salaahai aap ka-o vadahu vadayree ho-ay.
All praise themselves, and call themselves the greatest of the great.
Wote wanajisifu, na kujiita wakuu kati ya wakuu wote.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੀਐ ਕਹੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ॥
gur bin aap na cheenee-ai kahay sunay ki-aa ho-ay.
Without the Guru, one’s self cannot be known. By merely speaking and listening, what is accomplished?
Bila Guru, nafsi ya mtu haiwezi kujulikana. Kwa kuzungumza na kusikiza tu, ni kipi kinachofanikishwa?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੮॥
naanak sabad pachhaanee-ai ha-umai karai na ko-ay. ||8||8||
O Nanak, one who realizes the self through the Guru’s word does not act in egotism.
Ee Nanak, yule anayegundua nafsi yake kupitia neno la Guru hawezi kutenda katika ubinafsi.

ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਧਨ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਐ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
bin pir Dhan seegaaree-ai joban baad khu-aar.
If a soul bride decorates herself in her husband’s absence, she is simply wasting her youth, and subjecting her to distress and suffering.
Iwapo roho kama bi harusi ajipambe katika kutokuwepo kwa mume wake, anaharibu ujana wake tu, na kujidhuru kwa dhiki na kuteseka.

ਨਾ ਮਾਣੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੇਜੜੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
naa maanay sukh sayjrhee bin pir baad seegaar.
She can not enjoy the pleasures of His love; without her Husband (God), her embellishments goes to waste.
Hawezi kufurahia raha ya upendo wake; bila mume wake (Mungu), mapambo yake yanaharibika bure.

ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਨਾ ਘਰਿ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
dookh ghano duhaaganee naa ghar sayj bhataar. ||1||
The unfortunate bride suffers great misery, because her spouse doesn’t come to dwell in her home (heart).
Bi harusi huyo asiye na bahati anateseka kwa taabu kuu, kwa sababu mume wake haji kuishi nyumbani pake (moyoni).

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
man ray raam japahu sukh ho-ay.
O’ my mind, meditate on God’s Name, and find peace.
Ee akili yangu, tafakari kuhusu jina la Mungu, na upate amani.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin gur paraym na paa-ee-ai sabad milai rang ho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Without the Guru, love for God is not obtained.it is only through the Guru’s word that love for God wells up in our mind .
Bila Guru, upendo kwa Mungu hauwezi kupatwa, ni kupitia neno la Guru tu ambapo upendo huo kwa Mungu unajaa akilini mwetu.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
gur sayvaa sukh paa-ee-ai har var sahj seegaar.
By following the Guru’s advice we obtain peace and by decorating ourselves with the spiritual poise, we obtain God as our Groom.
Kwa kufuata ushauri wa Guru tunapata amani na kwa kujipamba kwa utulivu wa kiroho, tunapata Mungu kama bwana harusi wetu.

ਸਚਿ ਮਾਣੇ ਪਿਰ ਸੇਜੜੀ ਗੂੜਾ ਹੇਤੁ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sach maanay pir sayjrhee goorhaa hayt pi-aar.
The bride (soul) who has deep love and affection for Him enjoys the blissful company of the eternal God.
Bi harusi (roho) ambaye ana upendo wenye kina na mapenzi kwake anafurahia kukaa kwa furaha tele wa Mungu wa milele.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਸਿਞਾਣੀਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਗੁਣ ਚਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
gurmukh jaan sinjaanee-ai gur maylee gun chaar. ||2||
Meeting with the Guru, she maintains a virtuous lifestyle and by following the Guru’s teachings she comes to Know Him.
Kukutana na Guru, anadumisha mtindo wa maisha wenye fadhila na kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru anakuja kumjua Mungu.

ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਵਰ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਪਿਰਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
sach milhu var kaamnee pir mohee rang laa-ay.
O dear beautiful bride, meet your groom-God through true love. and entice your spouse God by imbuing yourself with His love.
Ee bi harusi mrembo mpendwa, kutana na bwana harusi-Mungu wako kupitia upendo wa kweli, na uvutie mume wako Mungu kwa kujiweka katika upendo wake.

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਵਿਗਸਿਆ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
man tan saach vigsi-aa keemat kahan na jaa-ay.
Your mind and body shall blossom forth in His love. The value of this cannot be described.
Akili yako na mwili utanawiri katika upendo wake. Thamana ya hii haiwezi kuelezwa.

ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੩॥
har var ghar sohaaganee nirmal saachai naa-ay. ||3||
Such a fortunate soul becomes pious by the true Name and finds her belovedGod within herself.
Roho iliyobahatika kama hio inakuwa takatifu kwa Jina la kweli na kupata Mungu wake mpendwa ndani mwake.

ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੈ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
man meh manoo-aa jay marai taa pir raavai naar.
If the mind dies within the mind itself, (when all the evil thoughts of the mind are ended) that the bride soul enjoys the company of her groom-God.
Iwapo akili ikufe ndani mwa akili yenyewe, (wakati fikira zote za dhambi zimetamatika) roho kama bi harusi anafurahia kukaa na bwana harusi-Mungu wake.

ਇਕਤੁ ਤਾਗੈ ਰਲਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਗਲਿ ਮੋਤੀਅਨ ਕਾ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
ikat taagai ral milai gal motee-an kaa haar.
In that state, like pearls in a necklace around the neck, the bride soul and groom God are united into one.
Katika hali hiyo, kama lulu kwenye mkufu shingoni, roho kama bi harusi na bwana harusi Mungu wanaunganishwa kuwa moja.

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
sant sabhaa sukh oopjai gurmukh naam aDhaar. ||4||
But this spiritual bliss is experienced only in the company of the true saints.By the Guru’s teachings, they find support of Naam.
Lakini furaha tele hii inahisiwa tu katika kikundi cha watakatifu wa kweli. Kwa mafundisho ya Guru, wanapata msaada wa Naam.

ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਖਿਨਿ ਖਪੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਆਵੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
khin meh upjai khin khapai khin aavai khin jaa-ay.
In a moment a thought arises in the mind and in a moment it goes away.
Mara moja fikira inajitokeza akilini na mara moja inapotea.

ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਇ ॥
sabad pachhaanai rav rahai naa tis kaal santaa-ay.
But if one realizes the true essence of the Guru’s word and remains attuned to God, then even the fear of death does not bother him.
Lakini iwapo mtu agundue kiini cha kweli cha neno la Guru na abaki amemakinikia Mungu, wakati huo hata uoga wa kifo haumsumbui.
