ਤਨੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਧਨੁ ਕਾ ਕੋ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
tan binsai Dhan kaa ko kahee-ai.
When a person’s body perishes, who is considered the owner of the worldly wealth amassed by that person.
Wakati mwili wa mtu unakufa, nani anafikiriwa kuwa mmiliki wa utajiri wa kidunia ambao mtu huyo alikusanya.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਤ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
bin gur raam naam kat lahee-ai.
Wealth of God’s Name cannot be attained from anyone other than the Guru.
Utajiri wa Jina la Mungu hauwezi kupatwa kutoka yeyote ila Guru.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
raam naam Dhan sang sakhaa-ee.
God’s Name is such a wealth which accompanies one like a faithful friend.
Jina la Mungu ni utajiri wa kipekee ambao unaandamana na mtu kama refiki mwaminifu.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥
ahinis nirmal har liv laa-ee. ||1||
Immaculate becomes the life of a person who remains attuned to God. ||1||
Maisha ya mtu yanakuwa safi anayebaki amemakinikia Mungu.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥
raam naam bin kavan hamaaraa.
Except God’s Name, who else is my support?
Isipokuwa Jina la Mungu, nani mwengine ni tegemezo yangu?

ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukh dukh sam kar naam na chhoda-o aapay bakhas milaavanhaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Considering pleasure and pain alike, I will never forsake Naam; bestowing grace, God on His own unites humans with Himself. ||1||Pause||
Nikifikiria raha na uchungu kuwa sawa, kamwe sitawahi kuacha Naam; akitawaza neema, Mungu Mwenyewe anaunganisha binadamu naye Mwenyewe. ||1|Sitisha||

ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਹੇਤੁ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥
kanik kaamnee hayt gavaaraa.
Foolish are those who remain in the love for Maya and lust,
Wapumbavu ni wale wanaosalia katika upendo wa Maya na ukware.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਾ ॥
dubiDhaa laagay naam visaaraa.
and attached to duality, they have forsaken Naam.
Na wakiambatishwa kwa uwili, wameacha Naam.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਬਖਸਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇ ॥
jis tooN bakhsahi naam japaa-ay.
O’ God, You make only that person meditate on Naam upon whom You bestow Your grace.
Ee Mungu, Wewe unafanya mtu huyo pekee atafakari kuhusu Naam ambaye unatawaza kwake neema Yako.

ਦੂਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਿ ਸਕੈ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੨॥
doot na laag sakai gun gaa-ay. ||2||
The fear of death cannot afflict him because he keeps singing Your praises. ||2||
Hofu ya kifo haiwezi kumuathiri yeye kwa sababu anaendelea kuimba sifa zako.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥
har gur daataa raam gupaalaa.
O’ my Guru-God, the Master of the earth, You alone are the benefactor.
Ee Guru-Mungu wangu, Bwana wa dunia, Wewe pekee ndiwe mfadhili.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
ji-o bhaavai ti-o raakh da-i-aalaa.
O’ the merciful God, please save me from vices as it pleases You.
Ee Mungu mwenye huruma, tafadhali niokoe kutoka maovu inavyokupendeza.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh raam mayrai man bhaa-i-aa.
Through the Guru’s teachings, God’s Name has become pleasing to my mind,
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, Jina la Mungu limekuwa la kupendeza akilini mwangu,

ਰੋਗ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
rog mitay dukh thaak rahaa-i-aa. ||3||
all my ailments and sorrows arising from vices are cured. ||3||
magonjwa na huzuni zangu zote zinazotokea kwa maovu zimeponywa.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਤੰਤ ਨ ਮੰਤਾ ॥
avar na a-ukhaDh tant na manntaa.
There is no other medicine, tantric charm or mantra,
Hakuna dawa nyingine, hirizi ya kihindu au mantra,

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹੰਤਾ ॥
har har simran kilvikh hantaa.
meditation on God’s Name is the only destroyer of sins.
Kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu ni mwangamizi wa pekee wa dhambi.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥
tooN aap bhulaaveh naam visaar.
O’ God, You Yourself make us go astray by making us forsake Naam.
Ee Mungu, Wewe Mwenyewe unatupotosha kwa kutufanya tuache Naam.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
tooN aapay raakhahi kirpaa Dhaar. ||4||
and then showing Your mercy, You Yourself save us from vices. ||4||
na kisha ukionyesha huruma yako, Wewe Mwenyewe unatuokoa kutoka maovu.

ਰੋਗੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
rog bharam bhayd man doojaa.
The mind of those is afflicted with doubt, prejudice and duality,
Akili yao inaathiriwa na shaka, ubaguzi na uwili,

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਜਪਹਿ ਜਪੁ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
gur bin bharam jaapeh jap doojaa.
who are lost without the Guru’s teachings and worship someone other than God.
Ambao wamepotea bila mafundisho ya Guru na wanaabudu mwengine ila Mungu.

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸ ਨ ਦੇਖਹਿ ॥
aad purakh gur daras na daykheh.
Those who do not follow the Guru’s teachings are never able to realize the presence of God, the primal being, in their heart.
Wale ambao hawafuati mafundisho ya Guru kamwe hawawezi kugundua uwepo wa Mungu, kiumbe cha asili, moyoni mwao.

ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਕਿ ਲੇਖਹਿ ॥੫॥
vin gur sabdai janam ke laykheh. ||5||
Without following the Guru’s word, the human life counts to nothing. ||5||
Bila kufuata neno la Guru, maisha ya binadamu ni bure.

ਦੇਖਿ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਰਹੇ ਬਿਸਮਾਦਿ ॥
daykh achraj rahay bismaad.
O’ God, we are wonder-struck beholding Your marvellous creation.
Ee Mungu, sisi tumestaajabishwa tukitazama uumbaji wako wa ajabu.

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੁਰ ਨਰ ਸਹਜ ਸਮਾਧਿ ॥
ghat ghat sur nar sahj samaaDh.
You are present in each and every heart;yes You intuitively pervade all angels and human beings.
Wewe upo katika kila moyo; ndio unaenea katika malaika na binadamu wote kisilika.

ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
bharipur Dhaar rahay man maahee.
You are fully pervading and supporting the mind of everyone.
Wewe unaenea kikamilifu na unategemeza akili ya kila mtu.

ਤੁਮ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੬॥
tum samsar avar ko naahee. ||6||
There is no one else equal to You. ||6||
Hakuna yeyote ambaye yu sawa na Wewe.

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ॥
jaa kee bhagat hayt mukh naam. sant bhagat kee sangat raam.
God is realized in the company of those saints and devotees in whose heart is the love for devotional worship and who always recite Naam.
Mungu anagunduliwa katika uandamano wa watakatifu na watawa hao ambao mioyoni mwao kuna upendo wa ibada ya ujitoaji na ambao daima wanakariri Naam.

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
banDhan toray sahj Dhi-aan.
By attuning to God, the saints remain in state of equipoise and break away from the worldly bonds.
Kwa kumakinikia Mungu, watakatifu wanabaki katika hali ya usawa na wanajiweka huru kutoka vifungo vya kidunia.

ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੭॥
chhootai gurmukh har gur gi-aan. ||7||
One who obtains divine knowledge by following the Guru’s teaching is also liberated from these worldly bonds. ||7||
Yule anayepata maarifa takatifu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru pia anakombolewa kutoka vifungo hivi vya kidunia.

ਨਾ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਦੂਖੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
naa jamdoot dookh tis laagai.
The fear of death or any misery does not afflicts a person,
Hofu ya kifo au taabu yoyote haiathiri mtu,

ਜੋ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
jo jan raam naam liv jaagai.
who attunes to God’s Name and remains alert to worldly allurements.
Anayemakinikia Jina la Mungu na kubaki ametahadhari kwa vishawishi vya kidunia.

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
bhagat vachhal bhagtaa har sang.
God, the lover of His devotees, always remains with them.
Mungu, mpenda wa watawa wake, daima anabaki nao.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੮॥੯॥
naanak mukat bha-ay har rang. ||8||9||
O’ Nanak, by being imbued with God’s love, they become emancipated. ||8||9||
Ee Nanak, kwa kuwa na upendo wa Mungu, wanakombolewa.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਇਕਤੁਕੀ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 1 iktukee.
Raag Aasaa, Ik-Tukee (one liner), First Guru:
Raag Aasaa, Ik-Tukee (mshororo mmoja), Guru wa Kwanza:

ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
gur sayvay so thaakur jaanai.
One who serves the Guru by following his teachings, comes to know God.
Yule anayetumikia Guru kwa kufuata mafundisho yake, anakuja kumjua Mungu.

ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
dookh mitai sach sabad pachhaanai. ||1||
Through the Guru’s word, he recognizes God’s presence everywhere and all his misery of worldly attachments is removed. ||1||
Kupitia neno la Guru, anatambua uwepo wa Mungu kila mahali na taabu yake yote ya viambatisho vya kidunia inaondolewa.

ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਖੀ ਸਖੈਨੀ ॥
raam japahu mayree sakhee sakhainee.
O’ my friends and mates, meditate on God’s Name,
Ee marafiki na wenzi wangu, tafakarini kuhusu Jina la Mungu,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੈਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satgur sayv daykhhu parabh nainee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
serving the true Guru by following his teaching, you would behold God with yourspiritually enlightened eyes. ||1||Pause||
kwa kutumikia Guru wa kweli kwa kufuata funzo lake, utatazama Mungu kwa macho yako yaliyoangazwa kiroho. ||1|Sitisha||

ਬੰਧਨ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ ਬੰਧਨ ਸੁਤ ਕੰਨਿਆ ਅਰੁ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
banDhan maat pitaa sansaar. banDhan sut kanniaa ar naar. ||2||
Without meditation on Naam, the relationships with one’s mother, father, son, daughter and spouse are nothing but emotional bonds in this world. ||2||
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam, uhusiano kati ya mama ya mtu, baba, mwana, binti na mwenzi wa ndoa ni vifungo vya kihisia tu duniani humu.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਹਉ ਕੀਆ ॥
banDhan karam Dharam ha-o kee-aa.
The religious rituals and deeds done egotistically also become worldly bonds.
Mila na vitendo vya kidini vilivyofanywa kwa ubinafsi pia vinakuwa vifungo vya kidunia.

ਬੰਧਨ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਬੀਆ ॥੩॥
banDhan put kalat man bee-aa. ||3||
If in one’s mind there is love for someone other than God then the relationship with son and wife is nothing but a bond for the soul. ||3||
Iwapo akilini mwa mtu kuna upendo wa mtu yeyote ila Mungu basi uhusiano na mwana na mke ni kifungo tu kwa roho.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਿਰਖੀ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਰਸਾਨ ॥
banDhan kirkhee karahi kirsaan.
Withot Naam, the farming also becomes bondage for a farmer,
Bila Naam, ukulima pia unakuwa utumwa kwa mkulima,

ਹਉਮੈ ਡੰਨੁ ਸਹੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨ ॥੪॥
ha-umai dann sahai raajaa mangai daan. ||4||
because the king demands tax on the crop and if out of ego the farmer refuses to pay then he suffers punishment. ||4||
kwa sababu mfalme anadai ushuru kwa mmea na iwapo kutokana na ubinafsi mkulima akatae kulipa basi anateseka adhabu.

ਬੰਧਨ ਸਉਦਾ ਅਣਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
banDhan sa-udaa anveechaaree.
Business deeds done without meditation on Naam also become bondages,
Vitendo vya biashara vinavyotendwa bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam pia vinakuwa vifungo,

ਤਿਪਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰੀ ॥੫॥
tipat naahee maa-i-aa moh pasaaree. ||5||
because caught in the expanse of Maya, the trader is never satisfied. ||5||
kwa sababu akinaswa katika upanuzi wa Maya, mfanya biashara kamwe haridhishwi.

ਬੰਧਨ ਸਾਹ ਸੰਚਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
banDhan saah saNcheh Dhan jaa-ay.
The riches amassed by the wealthy become a bond when lost,
Utajiri uliokusanywa na tajiri unakuwa kifungo wakati unapotezwa,

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਪਵਈ ਥਾਇ ॥੬॥
bin har bhagat na pav-ee thaa-ay. ||6||
without devotion to God, none of their deeds are acceptable in God’s presence. ||6||
bila ujitoaji kwa Mungu, hakuna kati ya vitendo hivi vinavyokubalika katika uwepo wa Mungu.

ਬੰਧਨ ਬੇਦੁ ਬਾਦੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥
banDhan bayd baad ahaNkaar.
Even reading and discussing Vedas without meditation on God lead to egotism and becomes the source of bondage for the soul.
Hata kusoma na kujadili Vedas bila kutafakari kuhusu Mungu kunaelekeza kwa ubinafsi na kunakuwa chanzo cha utumwa wa roho.

ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੭॥
banDhan binsai moh vikaar. ||7||
Entangeled in worldly attachments and Vices, one spiritually perishes. ||7||
Akinaswa katika viambatisho na maovu ya kidunia, mtu anakufa kiroho.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
naanak raam naam sarnaa-ee.
O’ Nanak, those who take the shelter of God’s Name while engaged in their worldly duties,
Ee Nanak, wale wanaochukua kificho cha Jina la Mungu wakati wanajihusisha katika majukumu yao ya kidunia,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਬੰਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੧੦॥
satgur raakhay banDh na paa-ee. ||8||10||
are saved by the true Guru and are not entangelled in any bonds. ||8||10||
wanaokolewa na Guru wa kweli na hawanaswi katika vifungo vyovyote.
