ਓਹੁ ਜੇਵ ਸਾਇਰ ਦੇਇ ਲਹਰੀ ਬਿਜੁਲ ਜਿਵੈ ਚਮਕਏ ॥
oh jayv saa-ir day-ay lahree bijul jivai chamka-ay.
The fruit of Maya is short lived like waves on the sea and the flash of lightning.
Tunda la Maya halidumu kama mawimbi kwenye bahari na radi.

ਹਰਿ ਬਾਝੁ ਰਾਖਾ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੋਇ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥
har baajh raakhaa ko-ay naahee so-ay tujheh bisaari-aa.
You have forsaken the same God, without whom there is no other savior.
Umeacha Mungu huyo huyo, ambaye bila Yeye hakuna mwokozi mwengine.

ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਹਿ ਹਰਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ॥੧॥
sach kahai naanak chayt ray man mareh harnaa kaali-aa. ||1||
Nanak says the truth, O’ my mind, meditate on God, otherwise you would get spiritually killed like the black deer in the pursuit of false worldly pleasures. ||1||
Nanak anasema ukweli, Ee akili yangu, tafakari kuhusu Mungu, la sivyo utauawa kiroho kama kulungu mweusi katika kukimbilia raha za uongo za kidunia.

ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲਿ ਭਵੰਤਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
bhavraa fool bhavanti-aa dukh at bhaaree raam.
O’ my mind, You are going from one worldly pleasure to another, like a black bee flying from one flower to the other; terrible pain is awaiting you.
Ee akili yangu, Wewe unaenda kutoka raha moja ya kidunia hadi nyingine, kama nyuki mweusi anayepepea kutoka ua moja hadi lingine; uchungu uliokithiri unakungoja.

ਮੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਛਿਆ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
mai gur poochhi-aa aapnaa saachaa beechaaree raam.
After asking my Guru, i have truly reflected on the situation.
Baada ya kuuliza Guru wangu, nimewaza kwa makini kuhusu hali hiyo.

ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੁਝੈ ਪੂਛਿਆ ਭਵਰੁ ਬੇਲੀ ਰਾਤਓ ॥
beechaar satgur mujhai poochhi-aa bhavar baylee raata-o.
Yes, I after reflecting, I have asked the true Guru, what will happen to this mind which is engrossed in worldly pleasures like the black bee engrossed in flowers.
Ndio, baada ya kuwaza kwa makini, nimeuliza Guru wa kweli, nini itafanyikia akili hii ambayo imevama katika raha za kidunia kama nyuki mweusi aiyevama katika maua.

ਸੂਰਜੁ ਚੜਿਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪੜਿਆ ਤੇਲੁ ਤਾਵਣਿ ਤਾਤਓ ॥
sooraj charhi-aa pind parhi-aa tayl taavan taata-o.
He replied that when the night of life ends, the body collapses and suffers extreme pain, as if put into a hot cauldron of oil.
Yeye alijibu kwamba wakati usiku wa maisha unakwisha, mwili unaporomoka na kuteseka uchungu uliokithiri, kana kwamba umewekwa kwenye pipa moto la mafuta.

ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਬਾਧਾ ਖਾਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੇਤਾਲਿਆ ॥
jam mag baaDhaa khaahi chotaa sabad bin baytaali-aa.
O’ mortal, without the Guru’s teachings, you are wandering like a ghost; bound in the fear of death, you would endure pain.
Ee binadamu, bila mafundisho ya Guru, unazurura kama kizuka; kwa kufungwa katika hofu ya kifo, utakumbwa na uchungu.

ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਵਰਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ॥੨॥
sach kahai naanak chayt ray man mareh bhavraa kaali-aa. ||2||
Nanak says the truth: O’ my mind, meditate on God, otherwise you would spiritually die like a black bee. ||2||
Nanak anasema ukweli: Ee akili yangu, tafakari kuhusu Mungu, la sivyo utakufa kiroho kama nyuki mweusi.

ਮੇਰੇ ਜੀਅੜਿਆ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ਕਿਤੁ ਪਵਹਿ ਜੰਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayray jee-arhi-aa pardaysee-aa kit paveh janjaalay raam.
O’ my stranger mind, why are you getting caught in worldly entanglements?
Ee akili yangu geni, kwa nini unanaswa katika misongamano ya kidunia?

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਹਿ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
saachaa saahib man vasai kee faaseh jam jaalay raam.
If you realize the eternal God dwelling in the heart, then you will not be entrapped in the noose of death.
Iwapo ugundue Mungu wa milele anayeishi moyoni, basi hutanaswa katika kitanzi cha kifo.

ਮਛੁਲੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਨੈਣ ਰੁੰਨੀ ਜਾਲੁ ਬਧਿਕਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
machhulee vichhunnee nain runnee jaal baDhik paa-i-aa.
The fish gets caught in the fisherman’s net due to its greed for the bait and whileleaving the water it suffers so much pain as if it is crying with tearful eyes.
Samaki ananaswa katika wavu wa mvuvi kutokana na tamaa yake ya chambo na wakati anatolewa kwa maji anateseka uchungu mwingi mno kana kwamba analia kwa macho yenye machozi.

ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਅੰਤਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
sansaar maa-i-aa moh meethaa ant bharam chukaa-i-aa.
Similarly, people caught in the greed of worldly attractions regret in the end when illusion of Maya is removed.
Vivyo hivyo, watu walionaswa katika tamaa ya vivutio vya kidunia wanajuta mwishowe wakati njozi ya Maya inaondolewa.

ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਛੋਡਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਿਆ ॥
bhagat kar chit laa-ay har si-o chhod manhu andaysi-aa.
O’ my mind, devote yourself to the devotional worship of God with full concentration and cast away all the doubts.
Ee akili yangu, jiweke wakfu kwa ibada ya ujitoaji ya Mungu kwa umakini kamilifu na utupe shaka zako zote.

ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਜੀਅੜਿਆ ਪਰਦੇਸੀਆ ॥੩॥
sach kahai naanak chayt ray man jee-arhi-aa pardaysee-aa. ||3||
Nanak says the truth, O’ my stranger mind, lovingly remember God. ||3||
Nanak anasema ukweli, Ee akili yangu geni, kumbuka Mungu kwa upendo.

ਨਦੀਆ ਵਾਹ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ਮੇਲਾ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
nadee-aa vaah vichhunni-aa maylaa sanjogee raam.
Streams separated from the river reunite only by chance, the souls separated from God reunite with Him only by His grace.
Vijito vilivyotengenishwa kutoka kwa mto vinaungana tena kwa bahati tu, roho zilizotenganishwa kutoka kwa Mungu zinaungana naye tena kwa neema yake tu.

ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਵਿਸੁ ਭਰੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥
jug jug meethaa vis bharay ko jaanai jogee raam.
Only a rare spiritually wise person understands that the love of Maya (worldly attachments) though sweet, is always full of poison.
Mtu nadra pekee mwenye hekima ya kiroho anaelewa kwamba upendo wa Maya (viambatisho vya kidunia) ilhali ni mtamu, daima umejawa na sumu.

ਕੋਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜਿਨਿ ਚੇਤਿਆ ॥
ko-ee sahj jaanai har pachhaanai satguroo jin chayti-aa.
Only a rare person who remembers the true Guru’s teachings, understands this truth and intuitively realizes God.
Mtu nadra pekee anayekumbuka mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, anaelewa ukweli huu na anagundua Mungu kisilika.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਪਚਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਚੇਤਿਆ ॥
bin naam har kay bharam bhoolay pacheh mugaDh achayti-aa.
Without meditating on God’s Name, many thoughtless fools wander in the illusion of Maya and are spiritually ruined.
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, wapumbavu wengi wasiofikiri wanazurura katika njozi ya Maya na wanaharibiwa kiroho.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਧਾਹੀ ਰੁੰਨਿਆ ॥
har naam bhagat na ridai saachaa say ant Dhaahee runni-aa.
Yes, those who do not meditate on God’s Name and who do not enshrine Him in their hearts, ultimately cry bitterly in the end.
Ndio, wale ambao hawatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu na ambao hawamthamini Yeye mioyoni mwao, mwishowe wanalia kwa uchungu.

ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥੫॥
sach kahai naanak sabad saachai mayl chiree vichhunni-aa. ||4||1||5||
Nanak says the truth, that by attuning to the Guru’s divine word, the eternal God unites the long separated souls with Him. ||4||1||5||
Nanak anasema ukweli, kwamba kwa kumakinikia neno takatifu la Guru, Mungu wa milele anaunganisha roho na Yeye zilizotenganishwa kwa muda mrefu.

One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:

ਹਮ ਘਰੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
ham gharay saachaa sohilaa saachai sabad suhaa-i-aa raam.
My heart is adorned with the Guru’s word of God’s praises and a song of true happiness is playing in my heart.
Moyo wangu umepambwa na neno la Guru la sifa za Mungu na wimbo wa furaha ya kweli unacheza moyoni mwangu.

ਧਨ ਪਿਰ ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
Dhan pir mayl bha-i-aa parabh aap milaa-i-aa raam.
The soul-bride has met her Husband-God and He Himself has caused this union.
Roho-bi harusi amekutana na Mume-Mungu wake na Yeye Mwenyewe amefanyiza muungano huu.

ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੀ ॥
parabh aap milaa-i-aa sach man vasaa-i-aa kaaman sehjay maatee.
God enshrined Naam in the mind of the soul-bride, she intuitively became imbued with His love and then God united her with Himself.
Mungu alithamini Naam akilini mwa roho-bi harusi, kisilika alipenyezwa na upendo Wake na kisha Mungu akamuunganishwa naye Mwenyewe.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
gur sabad seegaaree sach savaaree sadaa raavay rang raatee.
Embellished by the Guru’s word, she is adorned with truthful living; imbued with God’s love, she always enjoys His company.
Kwa kupambwa kwa neno la Guru, yeye amepambwa na kuishi kwa kweli; kwa kupenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu, yeye anafurahia uandamano wake Yeye.

ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
aap gavaa-ay har var paa-ay taa har ras man vasaa-i-aa.
By eradicating ego, when she realizes her Husband-God, then she enshrines the elixir of God’s Name within her mind.
Kwa kuondoa ubinafsi, wakati anagundua Mume-Mungu wake, basi anathamini dawa ya Jina la Mungu akilini mwake.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਸਫਲਿਉ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
kaho naanak gur sabad savaaree safli-o janam sabaa-i-aa. ||1||
Nanak says, the soul-bride who is embellished through the Guru’s word; all her life becomes fruitful ||1||
Nanak anasema, roho-bi harusi ambaye amepambwa kupitia neno la Guru; maisha yake yote yanakuwa yenye mafanikio

ਦੂਜੜੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੀ ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
doojrhai kaaman bharam bhulee har var na paa-ay raam.
The soul-bride who is led astray by duality and doubt, does not unite with her Husband-God.
Roho-bi harusi ambaye anapotoshwa na uwili na shaka, haungani na Mume-Mungu wake.

ਕਾਮਣਿ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
kaaman gun naahee birthaa janam gavaa-ay raam.
That soul-bride does not inculcate virtues and she wastes her life in vain.
Roho-bi harusi huyo hajifunzi fadhila na anaharibu maisha yake bure.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਇਆਣੀ ਅਉਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਝੂਰੇ ॥
birthaa janam gavaa-ay manmukh i-aanee a-uganvantee jhooray.
Yes, the foolish self-conceited bride who is without any virtues wastes her life in vain and keeps repenting.
Ndio, bi harusi mpumbavu mwenye majivuno binafsi ambaye hana fadhila zozote anaharibu maisha yake bure na anaendelea kutubu.

ਆਪਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਦੂਰੇ ॥
aapnaa satgur sayv sadaa sukh paa-i-aa taa pir mili-aa hadooray.
By serving her true Guru and by following his advice, she found eternal peace and realized her Husband-God within and around her.
Kwa kutumikia Guru wake wa kweli na kwa kufuata ushauri wake, yeye alipata amani ya milele na kugundua Mume-Mungu wake ndani mwake na karibu naye.

ਦੇਖਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਸਰਸੀ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
daykh pir vigsee andrahu sarsee sachai sabad subhaa-ay.
Upon beholding her Husband-God, she bloomed with joy and felt blissful, and merged in His love through the Guru’s divine word.
Baada ya kutazama Mume-Mungu wake, yeye alinawiri kwa furaha na kujihisi mwenye raha tele, na akaunganishwa katika upendo Wake kupitia neno takatifu la Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੨॥
naanak vin naavai kaaman bharam bhulaanee mil pareetam sukh paa-ay. ||2||
O’ Nanak, without meditating on Naam, the soul-bride remains deluded in doubts; she enjoys bliss upon meeting her beloved-God. ||2||
Ee Nanak, bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam, roho-bi harusi anabaki amedanganywa katika shaka; yeye anafurahia raha tele punde tu anapokutana na mpendwa-Mungu wake.
