ਕਰਿ ਮਜਨੋ ਸਪਤ ਸਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
kar majno sapat saray man nirmal mayray raam.
O’ my mind, immerse your five sensory organs, mind and intellect in theholy congregation and become pure.
Ee akili yangu, vamisha viungo vyako vitano vya hisi, akili na uwekevu wako katika ushirika mtakatifu na uwe safi.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਲਿ ਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਏ ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਏ ਪੰਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
nirmal jal nHaa-ay jaa parabh bhaa-ay panch milay veechaaray.
One can immerse in the holy congregation only when it is pleasing to God; then by reflecting on the Guru’s word, one obtains the five virtues (truth, contentment, compassion, patience, and righteousness).
Mtu anaweza kuvama katika ushirika mtakatifu wakati tu kunapendeza Mungu; kisha kwa kuwaza kwa makini kuhusu neno la Guru, mtu anapata fadhila tano (ukweli, kutoshelezwa, ukarimu, subira na uadilifu).

ਕਾਮੁ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਤਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
kaam karoDh kapat bikhi-aa taj sach naam ur Dhaaray.
And renouncing lust, anger, deceit and poison of worldly riches, such a person enshrines God’s Name in his heart.
Na akikana ukware, hasira, udanganyifu na sumu ya utajiri wa kidunia, mtu kama huyo anathamini Jina la Mungu moyoni mwake.

ਹਉਮੈ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਲਬ ਥਾਕੇ ਪਾਏ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
ha-umai lobh lahar lab thaakay paa-ay deen da-i-aalaa.
One who realizes merciful Master of the meek, the waves of ego and greed arising in the mind subside.
Mtu anayegundua Bwana wa wapole mwenye huruma, mawimbi ya ubinafsi na tamaa yanayotokea akilini yanapungua.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
naanak gur samaan tirath nahee ko-ee saachay gur gopaalaa. ||3||
O’ Nanak, there is no place of pilgrimage comparable to the Guru; the Guru is the embodiment of the eternal God. ||3||
Ee Nanak, hakuna pahali pa hija panapoweza kufananishwa na Guru; Guru ni udhihirisho wa kimwili wa Mungu wa milele.

ਹਉ ਬਨੁ ਬਨੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਰਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
ha-o ban bano daykh rahee tarin daykh sabaa-i-aa raam.
O’ God, I have searched all the woods and forests; I have also seen all the vegetation including,
Ee Mungu, nimetafuta katika misitu na nyika yote; nimeona pia mimea yote ikiwemo,

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੋ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥
taribhavno tujheh kee-aa sabh jagat sabaa-i-aa raam.
and have concluded that it is You who has created all the three worlds of the entire universe.
Na nimehitimisha kwamba ni Wewe ambaye umeumba dunia zote tatu za ulimwengu mzima.

ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
tayraa sabh kee-aa tooN thir thee-aa tuDh samaan ko naahee.
You created everything, You alone are eternal and there is none equal to You.
Wewe uliumba kila kitu, Wewe peke yako ni wa milele na hakuna aliye sawa na Wewe.

ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
tooN daataa sabh jaachik tayray tuDh bin kis saalaahee.
You are the benefactor and all are Your beggars;why should I praise anyone else except You?
Wewe ndiwe mfadhili na wote ni waombaji wako; kwa nini nisifu yeyote isipokuwa Wewe?

ਅਣਮੰਗਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਦਾਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
anmangi-aa daan deejai daatay tayree bhagat bharay bhandaaraa.
O’ the benefactor-God, You bestow gifts without being asked for and Your treasures are full with Your devotional worship.
Ee mfadhili-Mungu, Wewe unatawaza zawadi bila kuitishwa na hazina Zako zimejaa ibada yako ya ujitoaji.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
raam naam bin mukat na ho-ee naanak kahai veechaaraa. ||4||2||
Nanak expresses this thought, that liberation from worldly attachments and vices is not possible without meditation on God’s Name. ||4||2||
Nanak anasema wazi wazo hili, kwamba ukombozi kutoka viambatisho vya kidunia na maovu hauwezekani bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayraa mano mayraa man raataa raam pi-aaray raam.
My mind is imbued with the love of that beloved God,
Akili yangu imepenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu huyo mpendwa,

ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੋ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੋ ਧਾਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
sach saahibo aad purakh aprampro Dhaaray raam.
who is the eternal Master of all, has been in existence from the very beginning,is infinite, all pervading and the supporter of all creatures.
Ambaye ndiye Bwana wa milele wa wote, amekuwepo kutoka mwanzo kabisa, hana mwisho, anaenea kote na ndiye tegemezo ya wanyama wote.

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਧਾਨੋ ॥
agam agochar apar apaaraa paarbarahm parDhaano.
He is unfathomable, incomprehensible, infinite and all powerful supreme God.
Yeye hawezi kufahamika, hawezi kueleweka, hana mwisho na ndiye Mungu mkuu mwenye nguvu zote.

ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਮਾਨੋ ॥
aad jugaadee hai bhee hosee avar jhoothaa sabh maano.
He has been there even before the beginning of the universe and the ages, He is present now and will be present forever; know that all else is false (perishable).
Yeye amekuwepo hata kabla mwanzo wa ulimwengu na enzi zote, Yeye yupo wakati huu na atakuwepo milele; jua kwamba kila kitu kingine sicho cha kweli (kinaweza kuangamia).

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
karam Dharam kee saar na jaanai surat mukat ki-o paa-ee-ai.
My mind neither knows about the righteous deeds and rituals prescribed in the scriptures, nor it knows how to obtain salvation.
Akili yangu haijui kuhusu vitendo adilifu na mila zilizoagizwa katika maandishi, wala haijui jinsi ya kupata wokovu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
naanak gurmukh sabad pachhaanai ahinis naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||1||
O’ Nanak, my mind, according to the Guru’s teaching, knows only one thing, that day and night we should meditate on Naam. ||1||
Ee Nanak, akili yangu, kulingana na mafundisho ya Guru, inajua kitu kimoja tu, kwamba mchana na usiku tunapaswa kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayraa mano mayraa man maani-aa naam sakhaa-ee raam.
My mind is fully convinced that only God’s Name is our true companion.
Akili yangu imeshawishika kikamilifu kwamba Jina la Mungu pekee ndilo mwendani wetu wa kweli.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥
ha-umai mamtaa maa-i-aa sang na jaa-ee raam.
O’ God, egotism, worldly attachments and Maya (worldly riches) do not accompany anyone after death.
Ee Mungu, ubinafsi, viambatisho vya kidunia na Maya (utajiri wa kidunia) haiambatani na yeyote baada ya kifo.

ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਰੇ ॥
maataa pit bhaa-ee sut chaturaa-ee sang na sampai naaray.
Mother, father, famliy, children, cleverness, property and spouse – none of these become companion for ever.
Mama, baba, familia, watoto, ujanja, mali na mwenzi wa ndoa – hakuna kati yao anakuwa mwendani milele.

ਸਾਇਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਚਰਣ ਤਲੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
saa-ir kee putree parhar ti-aagee charan talai veechaaray.
By reflecting on the Guru’s word, I have renounced Maya; it has no control over me, as if I have kept it under my feet.
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru, nimekana Maya; hauna udhibiti wowote juu yangu, kana kwamba nimeiweka chini ya miguu yangu.

ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਇਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਸੋਈ ॥
aad purakh ik chalat dikhaa-i-aa jah daykhaa tah so-ee.
The primal God has revealed this world like a play; wherever I look, I see Him.
Mungu wa kiasili amedhihirisha dunia hii kama mchezo; popote ninapoangalia, namuona Yeye.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
naanak har kee bhagat na chhoda-o sehjay ho-ay so ho-ee. ||2||
O’ Nanak, I would never forsake God’s devotional worship; whatever is happening is happening intuitively. ||2||
Ee Nanak, kamwe sitawahi kuacha ibada ya ujitoaji ya Mungu; chochote kinachotendeka kinatendeka kisilika.

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
mayraa mano mayraa man nirmal saach samaalay raam.
My mind has become immaculately pure by enshrining God’s Name in my heart.
Akili yangu imekuwa safi kwa kuthamini Jina la Mungu moyoni mwangu.

ਅਵਗਣ ਮੇਟਿ ਚਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗਮ ਨਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
avgan mayt chalay gun sangam naalay raam.
I have eradicated my vices and now I keep company with the virtues.
Nimeondoa maovu yangu na sasa nina uandamano na fadhila.

ਅਵਗਣ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੋ ॥
avgan parhar karnee saaree dar sachai sachi-aaro.
The person who discards vices, does the righteous deed of meditating on God’s Name; he is judged as truthful in God’s presence.
Mtu anayetupa maovu, anafanya kitendo adilifu cha kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu; yeye anahukumiwa kama wa kweli katika uwepo wa Mungu.

ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
aavan jaavan thaak rahaa-ay gurmukh tat veechaaro.
He ends his rounds of birth and death by reflecting on the reality through the Guru’s teaching.
Yeye anatamatisha mizunguko yake ya kuzaliwa na kufa kwa kuwaza kwa makini kuhusu uhalisia kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਸਖਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
saajan meet sujaan sakhaa tooN sach milai vadi-aa-ee.
O’ God, You are my friend, mate, and all knowing companion; glory is attained by getting attuned to Your Name.
Ee Mungu, Wewe ni rafiki, mwenzi na mwendani wangu ujuaye yote; utukufu unapatwa kwa kumakinikia Jina lako.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
naanak naam ratan pargaasi-aa aisee gurmat paa-ee. ||3||
O’ Nanak, I have received such a teaching from the Guru, that priceless jewel like Naam has become manifest in my heart. ||3||
Ee Nanak, nimepokea funzo la kipekee kutoka kwa Guru, Naam hiyo isiyokadirika kama kito imedhihirika moyoni mwangu.

ਸਚੁ ਅੰਜਨੋ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
sach anjno anjan saar niranjan raataa raam.
By applying the kohl of divine knowledge to my eyes, my mind got imbued with the love of immaculate God.
Kwa kupaka wanja wa maarifa takatifu machoni mwangu, akili yangu ilipenyezwa na upendo wa Mungu safi.

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥
man tan rav rahi-aa jagjeevano daataa raam.
and now I have realized God, the life of the world and the great benefactor pervades my heart and mind.
Na sasa nimegundua Mungu, uhai wa dunia na mfadhili mkuu anaenea moyoni na akilini mwangu.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥
jagjeevan daataa har man raataa sahj milai maylaa-i-aa.
Yes, my mind is imbued with God, the giver and the life to the world.; it has intuitively merged with Him through the Guru.
Ndio, akili yangu imepenyezwa na Mungu, mpaji wa uhai kwa dunia; imeungana na Yeye kisilika kupitia kwa Guru.

ਸਾਧ ਸਭਾ ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
saaDh sabhaa santaa kee sangat nadar parabhoo sukh paa-i-aa.
Celestial peace is attained through God’s grace, by remaining in the company of the Guru in the holy congregation.
Amani ya kimbingu inapatwa kupitia neema ya Mungu, kwa kubaki katika uandamano wa Guru katika ushirika mtakatifu.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਚੂਕੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
har kee bhagat ratay bairaagee chookay moh pi-aasaa.
Those renunciates, who are imbued with the devotional worship of God and who have shed their emotional attachment and yearning,
Wao wakanaji, ambao wamepenyezwa na ibada ya ujitoaji ya Mungu na ambao wameondoa kiambatisho na tamaa yao ya kihisia,

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਤੀਣੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੩॥
naanak ha-umai maar pateenay virlay daas udaasaa. ||4||3||
are rare; O’ Nanak, such detached devotees conquer their ego and their faith in Naam remains steadfast. ||4||3||
ni nadra; Ee Nanak, watawa waliojitenga kama hao wanashinda ubinafsi wao na imani yao katika Naam inabaki imara.
