ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਕਰੈ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
tin kee sayvaa Dharam raa-ay karai Dhan savaaranhaar. ||2||
Great is the Almighty who blesses those spiritual beings and they are honored by the Almighty Himself.
Mkuu ni Mwenyezi Mungu anayebariki hao viumbe vya kiroho na wanaheshimika na Mwenyezi mwenyewe.

ਮਨ ਕੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਨਹਿ ਤਜੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
man kay bikaar maneh tajai man chookai moh abhimaan.
One who eliminates mental wickedness from within the mind, and casts out emotional attachment and egotistical pride,
Mtu anayeondoa uovu kutoka akilini, na kutupa nje kiambatanisho cha kihisia na kiburi cha ubinafsi,

ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਨੁ ॥
aatam raam pachhaani-aa sehjay naam samaan.
comes to recognize the All-pervading Soul, and is intuitively absorbed into the Naam.
Anakuja kutambua Roho inayoenea kote, na kuzamishwa kiangavu katika Naam.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਵਾਨੁ ॥
bin satgur mukat na paa-ee-ai manmukh firai divaan.
Without the Guru’s guidance one cannot get rid of evil tendencies; the self-willed continue wandering like lunatics.
Bila mwongozo wa Guru mtu hawezi kuondoa tabia mbaya; wenye wasia wa kibinafsi wanaendelea kuzurura kama wenye kichaa.

ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥
sabad na cheenai kathnee badnee karay bikhi-aa maahi samiaan. ||3||
They do not reflect on the Guru’s word. Instead, they utter only empty words while engrossed in the poison of Maya.
Hawatafakari kuhusu neno la Guru. Badala yake, wanatamka maneno matupu wakiwa wamejihusisha katika sumu ya Maya.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabh kichh aapay aap hai doojaa avar na ko-ay.
God is all in all, and there is no other like Him.
Mungu ni yote ndani ya yote, na hakuna mwengine kama Yeye.

ਜਿਉ ਬੋਲਾਏ ਤਿਉ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
ji-o bolaa-ay ti-o bolee-ai jaa aap bulaa-ay so-ay.
With his blessings I eulogize, as and when He desires.
Kwa baraka zake ninasifu, wakati na kwa njia anayotaka.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
gurmukh banee barahm hai sabad milaavaa ho-ay.
The Word of the Guru is God Himself. It is through the Word, that one is united with the Almighty.
Neno la Guru ni Mungu mwenyewe. Ni kupitia Neno, ambayo mtu anaunganishwa na Mwenyezi.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੩੦॥੬੩॥
naanak naam samaal too jit sayvi-ai sukh ho-ay. ||4||30||63||
O’ Nanak, let Naam reside in you by remembering Him with fervor. This way, spiritual peace is obtained.
Ee Nanak, acha Naam iishi ndani mwako kwa kumkumbuka Mungu kwa hamaki. Kwa njia hii amani ya kiroho inapatikana.

ਜਗਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
jag ha-umai mail dukh paa-i-aa mal laagee doojai bhaa-ay.
The world is polluted with the filth of egotism and is suffering because of this. This filth of ego sticks to us because of our love of worldly attachments.
Dunia imechafuliwa na uchafu wa ubinafsi na inateseka kwa sababu ya hiyo. Uchafu huo wa ubinafsi unatukwamilia kwa sababu ya upendo wetu wa viambatanisho vya kidunia.

ਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਧੋਤੀ ਕਿਵੈ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਜੇ ਸਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥
mal ha-umai Dhotee kivai na utrai jay sa-o tirath naa-ay.
This filth of egotism cannot be washed away by taking cleansing baths at hundreds of sacred shrines.
Uchafu huu wa ubinafsi hauwezi kusafishwa hata kwa kuoga kwa utakaso kwa mamia ya ziara takatifu.

ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਦੂਣੀ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਇ ॥
baho biDh karam kamaavday doonee mal laagee aa-ay.
People perform many kinds of rituals to get rid of this filth but instead, end upwith twice as much filth.
Watu wanatenda aina nyingi ya mila kuondoa uchafu huu lakini badalla yake, wanabaki na uchafu maradufu.

ਪੜਿਐ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
parhi-ai mail na utrai poochhahu gi-aanee-aa jaa-ay. ||1||
Even by reading (holy books), this filth is not removed. Go ahead, and ask the wise ones. ||1||
Hata kwa kusoma (vitabu vitakatifu), uchafu huu hauondolewi. Nenda hata ukaulize wenye busara.

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਆਵੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
man mayray gur saran aavai taa nirmal ho-ay.
O’ my mind, coming to the Sanctuary of the Guru, you shall become immaculate and pure.
Ee akili yangu, kuja pahala patakatifu pa Guru, utakuwa safi na mweupe kabisa.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਧੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
manmukh har har kar thakay mail na sakee Dho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The self-willed have grown weary of contemplating on Naam, but their filth is not removed.
Wenye wasia ya kibinafsi wamechoka kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam, lakini uchafu wao hauondolewi.

ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
man mailai bhagat na hova-ee naam na paa-i-aa jaa-ay.
With a polluted mind, devotional service cannot be performed, and Naam cannot be obtained.
Kwa akili iliyochafuliwa, huduma ya kujitolea haiwezi kutendwa, na Naam haiwezi kupokelewa.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮੈਲੇ ਮੁਏ ਜਾਸਨਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
manmukh mailay mailay mu-ay jaasan pat gavaa-ay.
The self-willed filthy die in filth, and spiritually, they depart in disgrace.
Wachafu wenye wasia wa binafsi wanakufa katika uchafu, na kiroho, wanaondoka kwa aibu.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਲੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
gur parsaadee man vasai mal ha-umai jaa-ay samaa-ay.
Through the Guru’s grace, God comes to abide in one’s heart, and the filth of ego is dispelled.
Kupitia neema ya Guru, Mungu anakuja kuishi katika moyo wa mtu, na uchafu wa ubinafsi unaondolewa.

ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੇਰੈ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਬਾਲੀਐ ਤਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਤਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
ji-o anDhayrai deepak baalee-ai ti-o gur gi-aan agi-aan tajaa-ay. ||2||
Like a lamp lit in the darkness, the spiritual wisdom of the Guru dispels ignorance.
Kama taa iliyowashwa gizani, busara ya kiroho ya Guru inaondoa ujinga.

ਹਮ ਕੀਆ ਹਮ ਕਰਹਗੇ ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥
ham kee-aa ham karhagay ham moorakh gaavaar.
I have done this, and I will do that. Egotistical conceited fools utter such words.
“Nimefanya hivi, na nitafanya hivyo”. Wapumbavu wenye majivuno ya ubinafsi wanatamka maneno kama haya.

ਕਰਣੈ ਵਾਲਾ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
karnai vaalaa visri-aa doojai bhaa-ay pi-aar.
When I forget the Doer of all; I am caught in the love of duality.
Wakati ninasahau mtendaji wa vyote; ninanaswa katika upendo wa uwili.

ਮਾਇਆ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਭਿ ਭਵਿ ਥਕੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
maa-i-aa jayvad dukh nahee sabh bhav thakay sansaar.
There is no pain as great as the pain of Maya; it drives people to wander all around the world, until they become exhausted.
Hakuna uchungu mkali kama uchungu wa Maya; inafanya watu wazurure wakizunguka duniani, hadi wanachoka.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
gurmatee sukh paa-ee-ai sach naam ur Dhaar. ||3||
Through the Guru’s Teachings, and Naam enshrined in the heart, inner peace is achieved.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, na Naam ikiwekwa moyoni, amani ya kindani inatimizwa.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
jis no maylay so milai ha-o tis balihaarai jaa-o.
I am a sacrifice to those who meet and merge with the Almighty.
Mimi ni dhabihu kwa wale ambao wanakutana na kuungana na Mwenyezi.

ਏ ਮਨ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਉ ॥
ay man bhagtee rati-aa sach banee nij thaa-o.
The heart, that is attuned to devotional worship through the Word, meets the Almighty within itself.
Moyo, ambayo unamakinikia ibada ya kujitolea kupitia neno la Guru, unakutana na Mwenyezi ndani mwake.

ਮਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਚੇ ਗਾਉ ॥
man ratay jihvaa ratee har gun sachay gaa-o.
In this state, both the mind and the tongue are imbued with God’s love and sing His Praises.
Katika hali hii, akili na ulimi unajawa na upendo wa Mungu na kuimba sifa zake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੪॥੩੧॥੬੪॥
naanak naam na veesrai sachay maahi samaa-o. ||4||31||64||
O’ Nanak, this way, one never forgets Naam and always stays united with the True One.
Ee Nanak, kwa njia hii, mtu daima hasahau Naam na anabaki ameungana na yule Mmoja wa kweli.

ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਿਰਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
mai man tan birahu at aglaa ki-o pareetam milai ghar aa-ay.
Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; I worry, how can my Beloved come to meet me (in my heart)?
Ndani mwa mwili na akili yangu upo uchungu mkali wa utengano; Nina wasiwasi, mpendwa wangu atawezaje kuja kukutana nami (moyoni mwangu)?

ਜਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੇਖਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
jaa daykhaa parabh aapnaa parabh daykhi-ai dukh jaa-ay.
When I see my God, seeing God Himself, my pain of separation goes away.
Wakati naona Mungu wangu, kuona Mungu mwenyewe, uchungu wangu wa utengano unaondoka.

ਜਾਇ ਪੁਛਾ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
jaa-ay puchhaa tin sajnaa parabh kit biDh milai milaa-ay. ||1||
I go and ask my friends, “How can I meet and merge with God?”||1||
Naenda na kuuliza rafiki zangu, “Nitawezaje kukutana na kuungana na Mungu?”

ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
mayray satiguraa mai tujh bin avar na ko-ay.
O’ my Guru, without You I have no other (support) at all.
Ee Guru wangu, bila wewe sina mwengine (msaada) hata mmoja.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ham moorakh mugaDh sarnaagatee kar kirpaa maylay har so-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
We are foolish and ignorant but have sought your sanctuary; With your grace, you are going to unite us with the Almighty. ||1||Pause||
Sisi ni wapumbavu na wajinga lakini tumetafuta pahala pako patakatifu; kwa neema yako, utatuunganisha na Mwenyezi. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥
satgur daataa har naam kaa parabh aap milaavai so-ay.
The Guru is the Giver of Naam. It is after you have received Naam from the Guru that God unites you with Him.
Guru ni mtoaji wa Naam. Ni baada ya kupokea Naam kutoka kwa Guru ambapo Mungu anakuunganisha naye.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
satgur har parabh bujhi-aa gur jayvad avar na ko-ay.
Spiritually, the Guru is very close to God and understands Him very well. There is no other as Great as the Guru.
Kiroho, Guru yu karibu sana na Mungu na anamuelewa vizuri sana. Hakuna mwengine mkuu kama Guru.

ਹਉ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਢਹਿ ਪਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
ha-o gur sarnaa-ee dheh pavaa kar da-i-aa maylay parabh so-ay. ||2||
I seek to enter the sanctuary of the Guru after completely surrendering myself so that with His grace, the Almighty may unite me with Him.
Natafuta kuingia pahala patakatifu pa Gutu baada ya kujisalimu kabisa ndiposa kwa neema yake, Mwenyezi Mungu aniunganishe naye.

ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਕੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
manhath kinai na paa-i-aa kar upaav thakay sabh ko-ay.
No one has found Creator by doing penances, or by practicing austerities etc. All have grown tired of making such futile efforts.
Hakuna mtu amepata Muumba kwa kufanya toba, ama kwa kutenda vitendo vikali na kadhalika. Wote wamechoshwa kwa kufanya jitihada bure kama hizo.
