ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥
satgur sayv paa-ay nij thaa-o. ||1||
By following the teachings of the true Guru, he understands his own state of spiritual enlightenment.||1||
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, anaelewa hali yake mwenyewe ya mwangazo wa kiroho.

ਮਨ ਚੂਰੇ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਜਾਣੁ ॥
man chooray khat darsan jaan.
One who controls his mind becomes so wise as if he has acquired the knowledge of all the six Shastras.
Yule anayedhibiti akili yake anakuwa mwenye hekima mno kana kwamba amepata maarifa ya Shastras zote sita.

ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sarab jot pooran bhagvaan. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He beholds God’s light perfectly pervading in all the creatures. ||1||Pause||
Yeye anatazama mwanga wa Mungu kikamili ukienea katika viumbe vyote. ||1||Sitisha||

ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਆਸ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
aDhik ti-aas bhaykh baho karai.
Even if a person with intense desire for Maya wears all sorts of religious robes to impress other people,
Hata iwapo mtu anaye hamu kali ya Maya avae aina zote za majoho ya kidini kupendeza watu wengine,

ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥
dukh bikhi-aa sukh tan parharai.
still the pain arising from the love of Maya destroys that person’s peace.
Bado uchungu unaotokea kutoka kwa upendo wa Maya unaangamiza amani ya mtu huyo.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥
kaam kroDh antar Dhan hirai.
The lust and anger steal away his wealth of Naam.
Ukware na hasira inaiba utajiri wake wa Naam.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥੨॥
dubiDhaa chhod naam nistarai. ||2||
He is emancipated only by forsaking the love of duality and by meditating on Naam.||2||
Yeye anakombolewa tu kwa kuacha upendo wa uwili na kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
sifat salaahan sahj anand.
One who sings the praise of God, enjoys the intuitive peace, poise and bliss.
Yule anayeimba sifa za Mungu, anafurahia amani, utulivu na raha tele kisilika.

ਸਖਾ ਸੈਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥
sakhaa sain paraym gobind.
The love of God is like his family and friends.
Upendo wa Mungu ni kama familia na marafiki wake.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥
aapay karay aapay bakhsind.
He believes that it is God who creates all beings and He Himself blesses them with everything.
Yeye anaamini kwamba ni Mungu anayeumba viumbe vyote na Yeye Mwenyewe anawabariki na kila kitu.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੩॥
tan man har peh aagai jind. ||3||
He surrenders his body, mind and soul to God. ||3||
Anasalimisha mwili, akili na roho yake kwa Mungu.

ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹ ॥
jhooth vikaar mahaa dukh dayh.
He sees falsehood and vices as the root cause of terrible suffering for the body.
Yeye anaona udanganyifu na maovu kama sababu ya msingi ya mateso ya mwili.

ਭੇਖ ਵਰਨ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਹ ॥
bhaykh varan deeseh sabh khayh.
To him all the false garbs of piety and the pride in one’s caste or race, seem worthless like ashes.
Kwake mavazi yote ya uongo ya utawa na fahari katika tabaka au rangi ya ngozi, inaonekana bure kama majivu.

ਜੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
jo upjai so aavai jaa-ay.
He realizes that whatever is born is perishable.
Anagundua kwamba chochote kinachozaliwa kinaweza kufa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
naanak asthir naam rajaa-ay. ||4||11||
O’ Nanak, only God’s Name and His command is eternal. ||4||11||
Ee Nanak, Jina la Mungu pekee na amri yake ni ya milele.

ਏਕੋ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਕਮਲ ਅਨੂਪ ॥
ayko sarvar kamal anoop.
In the holy congregation the saints look beautiful like the lotuses in a pool.
Katika ushirika mtakatifu watakatifu wanakaa vizuri kama yungiyungi katika kidimbwi.

ਸਦਾ ਬਿਗਾਸੈ ਪਰਮਲ ਰੂਪ ॥
sadaa bigaasai parmal roop.
As the lotuses in the pool blossom continually and remain pure and fragrant,similarly, in the holy congregation the saints remain delighted and immaculate.
Kama vile yungiyungi kwenye kidimbwi zinanawiri bila mwisho na kubaki safi na yenye harufu nzuri, vivyo hivyo, katika ushirika mtakatifu watakatifu wanabaki wamefurahia na safi kabisa.

ਊਜਲ ਮੋਤੀ ਚੂਗਹਿ ਹੰਸ ॥
oojal motee choogeh hans.
Like swans pecking at pearls in a lake, the saintly persons enjoy the nectar of Naam in a holy congregation.
Kama bata-maji wakidonoa lulu katika ziwa, watu watakatifu wanafurahia nekta ya Naam katika ushirika mtakatifu.

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ਅੰਸ ॥੧॥
sarab kalaa jagdeesai aNs. ||1||
They become a part of the all-powerful God of the Universe. ||1||
Wanakuwa sehemu ya Mungu mwenye nguvu zote wa Ulimwengu.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ॥
jo deesai so upjai binsai.
Whoever is seen, is subject to birth and death.
Yeyote anayeonekana, ametiishwa kwa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin jal sarvar kamal na deesai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
As the lotus is not seen in a pool without water, similarly saints do not go in a gathering devoid of God’s Name. ||1||Pause||
Kama vile yungiyungi haionekani katika kidimbwi bila maji, vivyo hivyo watakatifu hawaendi kwenye mkutano usio na Jina la Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਬਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਭੇਦੁ ॥
birlaa boojhai paavai bhayd.
Only a rare person understands this secret of the holy congregation.
Mtu nadra pekee anaelewa siri hii ya ushirika mtakatifu.

ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਕਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਬੇਦੁ ॥
saakhaa teen kahai nit bayd.
Even Vedas only talk of the three basic traits of Maya or desires for vice, virtue and power.
Hata Vedas zinazungumzia tu tabia tatu za kimsingi za Maya au hamu za dhambi, fadhila na nguvu.

ਨਾਦ ਬਿੰਦ ਕੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
naad bind kee surat samaa-ay.
The one who merges in God’s love through the knowledge of divine word,
Yule ambaye anaunganishwa katika upendo wa Mungu kupitia maarifa ya neno takatifu,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
satgur sayv param pad paa-ay. ||2||
attains the supreme status by following the teachings of the true Guru. ||2||
anafikia hadhi kuu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli.

ਮੁਕਤੋ ਰਾਤਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਵਾਂਤਉ ॥
mukto raata-o rang ravaaNta-o.
One who is liberated from the three traits of Maya is imbued with the love of God and he always meditates on Naam with loving devotion.
Yule ambaye amekombolewa kutoka tabia tatu za Maya amejawa na upendo wa Mungu na daima anatafakari kuhusu Naam kwa ujitoaji wa upendo.

ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਜਿ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਗਸਾਂਤਉ ॥
raajan raaj sadaa bigsaaNta-o.
Being attuned to God, the King of kings, one always remains in a state of bliss
Akiwa amemakinikia Mungu, Mfalme wa wafalme, mtu daima anabaki katika hali ya raha tele

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
jis tooN raakhahi kirpaa Dhaar.
O’ God, whom You save from the effects of Maya by showing Your mercy,
Ee Mungu, yule ambaye unaokoa kutoka athari za Maya kwa kuonyesha huruma yako,

ਬੂਡਤ ਪਾਹਨ ਤਾਰਹਿ ਤਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
boodat paahan taareh taar. ||3||
You ferry him across, like You ferry even the stone hearted people across the world ocean of vices. ||3||
Unamvukisha, kama Wewe unavyovukisha hata watu wenye mioyo migumu katika bahari dunia ya dhambi.

ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
taribhavan meh jot taribhavan meh jaani-aa.
The person who keeps united with a holy congregation realizes the light of God pervading in all the three worlds.
Watu wanaosalia wameungana na ushirika mtakatifu wanagundua mwanga wa Mungu ukienea katika dunia zote tatu.

ਉਲਟ ਭਈ ਘਰੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਣਿਆ ॥
ulat bha-ee ghar ghar meh aani-aa.
That person’s mind turns away from Maya and he realizes God within his heart.
Akili ya mtu huyo inageuka kutoka kwa Maya na yeye anagundua Mungu ndani mwa moyo wake.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
ahinis bhagat karay liv laa-ay.
Day and night he keeps meditating with the mind attuned to God.
Mchana na usiku anaendelea kutafakari akili ikimakinikia Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੨॥
naanak tin kai laagai paa-ay. ||4||12||
Nanak humbly bows to such holy persons. ||4||12||
Nanak anasujudu kwa unyenyekevu kwa watu watakatifu kama hao.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 1.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੁਜਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
gurmat saachee hujat door.
One who sincerely accepts the Guru’s teachings, all his cynicism departs.
Yule ambaye anakubali kwa unyoofu mafundisho ya Guru, ubeuzi wake wote unaondoka.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਲਾਗੈ ਧੂਰਿ ॥
bahut si-aanap laagai Dhoor.
Through excessive cleverness, mind is plastered with the dirt of vices.
Kupitia ujanja mwingi, akili inachafuliwa na uchafu wa maovu.

ਲਾਗੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਇ ॥
laagee mail mitai sach naa-ay.
The filth attached to the mind is removed only by meditating on God’s Name,
Uchafu ulioambatishwa kwa akili unaondolewa tu kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu,

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
gur parsaad rahai liv laa-ay. ||1||
and only by the Guru’s grace, one remains lovingly attuned to God. ||1||
na kwa neema ya Guru pekee, mtu anabaki amemakinikia Mungu kwa upendo.

ਹੈ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਹਾਜਰੁ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
hai hajoor haajar ardaas.
God is always with us; pray before Him with single minded devotion.
Mungu daima yupo nasi; Sali mbele yake kwa ujitoaji wa nia moja.

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dukh sukh saach kartay parabh paas. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Believe it that the Creator knows about the pain and pleasure of all. ||1||Pause||
Amini kwamba Muumba anajua kuhusu uchungu na raha ya wote. ||1||Sitisha||

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥
koorh kamaavai aavai jaavai.
One who practices falsehood suffers in the cycles of birth and death.
Yule anayetenda udanganyifu anateseka katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਕਹਣਿ ਕਥਨਿ ਵਾਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥
kahan kathan vaaraa nahee aavai.
Through mere utterances and discourses, one never reaches any conclusion.
Kupitia matamshi na mihadhara mitupi, mtu kamwe hafikii hitimisho yoyote.

ਕਿਆ ਦੇਖਾ ਸੂਝ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
ki-aa daykhaa soojh boojh na paavai.
Such a person has not seen the real truth, therefore gains no true knowledge about God,
Mtu kama huyo hajaona ukweli halisi, hivyo basi hapati maarifa yoyote ya kweli kuhusu Mungu,

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
bin naavai man taripat na aavai. ||2||
and without God’s Name his mind is not satisfied. ||2||
na bila Jina la Mungu akili yake hairidhishwi.

ਜੋ ਜਨਮੇ ਸੇ ਰੋਗਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥
jo janmay say rog vi-aapay.
Those who are born suffer spiritual ailments because of their cynicisim of God,
Wale ambao wamezaliwa wanateseka magonjwa ya kiroho kwa sababu ya ubeuzi wao kwa Mungu,

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
ha-umai maa-i-aa dookh santaapay.
and are tortured by the pain of egotism and Maya.
Na wanateswa kwa uchungu wa ubinafsi na Maya.

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬਾਚੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ॥
say jan baachay jo parabh raakhay.
They alone are spared from this torture who are protected by God and
Wao pekee wanaepushwa kutoka mateso haya ambao wanalindwa na Mungu na

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖੇ ॥੩॥
satgur sayv amrit ras chaakhay. ||3||
have tasted the ambrosial nectar of Naam by following the Guru’s teachings.||3||
wameonja nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਚਲਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਚਾਖੈ ॥
chalta-o man raakhai amrit chaakhai.
One who partakes the ambrosial nectar of Naam and controls his mercurial mind,
Yule ambaye anashiriki nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam na kudhibiti akili yake geugeu,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਬਦੁ ਭਾਖੈ ॥
satgur sayv amrit sabad bhaakhai.
utters the nectar like word of God’s praises by following the Guru’s teachings.
Anatamka neno kama nekta la sifa za Mungu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੩॥
saachai sabad mukat gat paa-ay.naanak vichahu aap gavaa-ay. ||4||13||
O’ Nanak, one who loses one’s ego, by following the Guru’s world he attains freedom from the vices and attains supreme spiritual state. ||4||13||
Ee Nanak, yule anayepoteza ubinafsi wake, kwa kufuata neno la Guru anapata uhuru kutoka maovu na anapata hali kuu ya kiroho.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

ਜੋ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਥੀਆ ॥
jo tin kee-aa so sach thee-aa.
Whom God has made His own has become the embodiment of Truth.
Yule ambaye Mungu amefanya kuwa wake amekuwa udhihirisho wa kimwili wa Ukweli.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
amrit naam satgur dee-aa.
The True Guru gives the ambrosial Name of God to him.
Guru wa Kweli anampa Jina la ambrosia la Mungu kwake.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
hirdai naam naahee man bhang.
God’s Name always dwells in his heart and there is never a feeling of separation from God in his mind.
Jina la Mungu daima linaishi moyoni mwake na kamwe hakuna hisia ya utengano kutoka kwa Mungu akilini mwake.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਗੁ ॥੧॥
an-din naal pi-aaray sang. ||1||
and he always enjoys the company of the beloved God. ||1||
naye daima anafurahia uandamano wa Mungu mpendwa.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
har jee-o raakho apnee sarnaa-ee.
O’ God, please keep me always in Your protection.
Ee Mungu, tafadhali niweke daima katika ulinzi wako.
