ਲਾਭੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਹਿਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਤਿਵੰਤ ॥
laabh milai totaa hirai har dargeh pativant.
In this way the spiritual life becomes profitable and all the loss from past evils is recovered and honor is obtained in God’s court.
Kwa njia hii maisha ya kiroho yanakuwa yenye faida na hasara yote ya maovu ya awali inarutubishwa na heshima inapatwa katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਸਾਹ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥
raam naam Dhan sanchvai saach saah bhagvant.
Those who gather in the wealth of God’s Name are forever rich, and fortunate.
Wale wanaokusanya utajiri wa Jina la Mungu ni matajiri milele, na wenye bahati mno.

ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਹੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥
oothat baithat har bhajahu saaDhoo sang pareet.
Therefore, always meditate on God and cherish the company of the true Saints.
Hivyo basi, tafakari daima kuhusu Mungu na utahmini uandamano wa Watakatifu wa kweli.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਸੇ ਚੀਤਿ ॥੨॥
naanak durmat chhut ga-ee paarbarahm basay cheet. ||2||
O Nanak, when one realizes the presence of supreme God in the heart,all his evil-mindedness is eradicated. ||2||
Ee Nanak, wakati mtu anagundua uwepo wa Mungu mkuu moyoni, nia yake yote mbaya inaondolewa.

ਤੀਨਿ ਬਿਆਪਹਿ ਜਗਤ ਕਉ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
teen bi-aapahi jagat ka-o turee-aa paavai ko-ay.
The humanity is in the grip of the three modes of Maya (power, vice and virtue); only a rare one attains the fourth state called Turiya ( state of union with God)
Ubinadamu upo katika mshiko wa mbinu tatu za Maya (nguvu, dhambi na fadhila); mtu nadra pekee anafikia hali ya nne inayoitwa Turiya (hali ya muungano na Mungu)

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
naanak sant nirmal bha-ay jin man vasi-aa so-ay. ||3||
O’ Nanak, the lives of those true saints become immaculate, in whose mind dwells God. ll 3 ll
Ee Nanak ,maisha ya hao watakatifu wa kweli yanakuwa safi, ambao Mungu anaishi akilini mwao.

ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖੈ ਫਲ ਕਬ ਉਤਮ ਕਬ ਨੀਚੁ ॥
taritee-aa tarai gun bikhai fal kab utam kab neech.
The third lunar day: bound by the poisonous results of the three impulses of Maya, mortals are sometimes in high spirits, and sometimes in low spirits.
Siku ya tatu ya mwezi: wakifungwa kwa matokeo yenye sumu ya misukumo mitatu ya Maya, wakati mwingine binadamu ni wachangamfu, na wakati mwingine wanahuzunika.

ਨਰਕ ਸੁਰਗ ਭ੍ਰਮਤਉ ਘਣੋ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਮੀਚੁ ॥
narak surag bharamta-o ghano sadaa sanghaarai meech.
They wander endlessly in heaven and hell (peace and sorrow), and the fear of death always destroys their spiritual life.
Wanazurura bila mwisho katika mbinguni na jehanamu (amani na huzuni), na hofu ya kifo daima inaangamiza maisha yao ya kiroho.

ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ॥
harakh sog sahsaa sansaar ha-o ha-o karat bihaa-ay.
Gripped in pleasure, sorrow and cynicism, the mortals pass their lives in ego.
Wakinaswa katika raha, huzuni na ubeuzi, binadamu wanaishi maisha yao kwa ubinafsi.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਉਪਾਇ ॥
jin kee-ay tiseh na jaannee chitvahi anik upaa-ay.
They do not realize the Creator and keep thinking about other rituals.
Hawagundui Muumba na wanaendelea kufikiria kuhusu mila nyingine.

ਆਧਿ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਪਾਧਿ ਰਸ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਤਾਪ ॥
aaDh bi-aaDh upaaDh ras kabahu na tootai taap.
Due to the worldly enticements and pleasures, they are never free from the afflictions of mind, body and worldly conflicts, and their worry never departs.
Kutokana na vivutio na raha za kidunia, kamwe hawako huru kutoka madhara ya akili, mwili na mizozano ya kidunia, na wasiwasi wao kamwe hauondoki.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਨੀ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੈ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥
paarbarahm pooran Dhanee nah boojhai partaap.
They do not realize the glory of the supreme God, the perfect Master.
Hawagundui utukufu wa Mungu kuu, Bwana kamili.

ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਬੂਡਤ ਘਣੋ ਮਹਾ ਨਰਕ ਮਹਿ ਵਾਸ ॥
moh bharam boodat ghano mahaa narak meh vaas.
So many are being drowned in emotional attachment and doubt, and they keep living a miserable life as if they are dwelling in the most horrible hell.
Wengi sana wanazama katika kiambatisho cha kihisia na shaka, na wanaendelea kuishi maisha yenye taabu kana kwamba wanaishi katika jehanamu mbaya zaidi.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਸ ॥੩॥
kar kirpaa parabh raakh layho naanak tayree aas. ||3||
O’ Nanak, pray to God and ask, Please bestow mercy and save me! I place all my hopes in You. ||3||
Ee Nanak, omba Mungu na uulize, Tafadhali tawaza huruma na uniokoe! Mimi naweka matumaini yangu yote kwako.

ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਜਿਆ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
chatur si-aanaa sugharh so-ay jin taji-aa abhimaan.
The one who has shed all ego is wise, farsighted, and accomplished.
Yule ambaye anaondoa ubinafsi wote ni mwenye hekima, mwenye uwezo wa kuona kimbele, na ametimizwa.

ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਭਜੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੪॥
chaar padaarath asat siDh bhaj naanak har naam. ||4||
O’ Nanak, meditate on God’s Name, you would obtain four cardinal blessings (righteousness, riches, procreation and salvation) and all miraculous powers.||4||
Ee Nanak, tafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, utapata baraka nne kadinali (uadilifu, utajiri, uzazi na wokovu) na nguvu zote za kimiujiza.

ਚਤੁਰਥਿ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੋਧਿਓ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
chaturath chaaray bayd sun soDhi-o tat beechaar.
The fourth lunar day: Listening to the four Vedas and contemplating the essence of reality, I have ascertained,
Siku ya nne ya mwezi: Kwa kusikiza Vedas nne na kutafakari kuhusu kiini cha uhalisia, nimethibitisha,

ਸਰਬ ਖੇਮ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
sarab khaym kali-aan niDh raam naam jap saar.
that the treasure of all joy and peace is in sublime meditation on God’s Name.
kwamba hazina ya furaha na amani yote ni utafakari mtukufu wa Jina la Mungu.

ਨਰਕ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੈ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਲੇਸ ॥
narak nivaarai dukh harai tooteh anik kalays.
Meditation on God’s Name saves one from hell (miserable life), dispels all the sorrows, and countless miseries.
Kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kunaokoa mtu kutoka jehanamu (maisha ya taabu), kunaondoa huzuni zote, na taabu zisizohesabika.

ਮੀਚੁ ਹੁਟੈ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥
meech hutai jam tay chhutai har keertan parvays.
The one in whose mind is enshrined the praises of God, he escape the spiritual death and his fear of death is overcome
Yule ambaye akilini mwake mmethaminiwa sifa za Mungu, yeye anaepuka kifo cha kiroho na hofu yake ya kifo inashindwa.

ਭਉ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਸੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥
bha-o binsai amrit rasai rang ratay nirankaar.
When one is imbued with the love of the formless God, all his fear is destroyed, and nectar of Naam permeates in his heart.
Yule ambaye amejawa na upendo wa Mungu asiye na maumbile, hofu yake yote inaangamizwa, na nekta ya Naam inapenyeza moyoni mwake.

ਦੁਖ ਦਾਰਿਦ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰ ॥
dukh daarid apvitartaa naaseh naam aDhaar.
With the support of God’s Name,sorrow, misery and impurity of vices flee away.
Kwa tegemezo ya Jina la Mungu, huzuni, taabu na unajisi wa dhambi unatokomezwa.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਖੋਜਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
sur nar mun jan khojtay sukh saagar gopaal.
Whom the angels and the silent sages search, that ocean of peace and sustainer of the universe,
Yule ambaye malaika na majuzi wanyamavu wanamtafuta, bahari hiyo ya amani na mtunzaji wa ulimwengu,

ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੪॥
man nirmal mukh oojlaa ho-ay naanak saaDh ravaal. ||4||
is realized, O’ Nanak, by humbly following the Guru’s teachings and by doing so the mind becomes pure and honor is obtained here and hereafter. ||4||
anagunduliwa, Ee Nanak, kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru kwa unyenyekevu na kwa kufanya hivyo akili inakuwa safi na heshima inapatwa humu na katika dunia itakayofuata.

ਪੰਚ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੇ ਰਾਚੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
panch bikaar man meh basay raachay maa-i-aa sang.
The five evil passions (lust, anger, greed, emotional attachments and ego) dwell in the mind of those who are engrossed in the love of Maya (worldly riches).
Shauku tano za uovu (ukware, hasira, tamaa, kiambatisho cha kihisia na ubinafsi) zinaishi akilini mwa wale ambao wamevama katika upendo wa Maya (utajiri wa kidunia).

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੫॥
saaDhsang ho-ay nirmalaa naanak parabh kai rang. ||5||
O’ Nanak, the one who in the holy congregation, remains imbued with the love of God, pure becomes his way of life.||5||
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye katika ushirika takatifu, anabaki amejawa na upendo wa Mungu, mtindo wake wa maisha unakuwa safi.

ਪੰਚਮਿ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਤੇ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ॥
pancham panch parDhaan tay jih jaani-o parpanch.
The fifth lunar day; those are the chosen and most distinguished, who have understood,
Siku ya tano ya mwezi: Wao ni waliochaguliwa na mashuhuri zaidi, ambao wameelewa,

ਕੁਸਮ ਬਾਸ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਘਣੋ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਬਲਬੰਚੁ ॥
kusam baas baho rang ghano sabh mithi-aa balbanch.
that all this expanse of the world is false and transitory like the fading colors and scents of the flowers .
kwamba upanuzi huu wote wa dunia ni ya uongo na ya mpito kama rangi na harufu nzuri zinazofifia za maua.

ਨਹ ਜਾਪੈ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਨਹ ਕਛੁ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
nah jaapai nah boojhee-ai nah kachh karat beechaar.
The mortal does not think or understand and reflect upon the righteous living.
Binadamu hafikirii wala kuelewa na kutafakari kuhusu kuishi kwa uadilifu.

ਸੁਆਦ ਮੋਹ ਰਸ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਚਿਓ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
su-aad moh ras bayDhi-o agi-aan rachi-o sansaar.
Almost the entire world engrossed in ignorance, is addicted to the relishes of worldly pleasures and attachments.
Karibu dunia nzima imevama katika ujinga, ina uraibu wa furaha za raha na viambatisho vya kidunia.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਣ ਕੀਨੇ ਕਰਮ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
janam maran baho jon bharman keenay karam anayk.
Even after performing innumerable rituals, the mortal shall remain in the cycles of birth and death in many incarnations,
Hata baada ya kufanya mila zisizohesabika, binadamu atabaki katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa katika umwilisho mwingi,

ਰਚਨਹਾਰੁ ਨਹ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
rachanhaar nah simri-o man na beechaar bibayk.
if he has not meditated on the Creator and has not deliberated on vice or virtue.
Iwapo hajatafakari kuhusu Muumba na hajajadili kuhusu uovu au fadhila.

ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਲਿਪਤ ਨ ਰੰਚ ॥
bhaa-o bhagat bhagvaan sang maa-i-aa lipat na ranch.
Those who remain imbued with the loving devotion of God, worldly attachment doesn’t afflict them at all.
Wale wanaobaki wamejawa na ujitoaji wa upendo kwa Mungu, kiambatisho cha kidunia hakiwaathiri hata kidogo.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਰਲੇ ਪਾਈਅਹਿ ਜੋ ਨ ਰਚਹਿ ਪਰਪੰਚ ॥੫॥
naanak birlay paa-ee-ah jo na racheh parpanch. ||5||
O’ Nanak, very rare are those, who do not get entangled in the false expanse of the world.
Ee Nanak, nadra sana ni wale, ambao hawanaswi katika upanuzi wa uongo wa dunia.

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥

ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਊਚੌ ਕਹਹਿ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰ ॥
khat saastar oochou kaheh ant na paaraavaar.
The six Shastras loudly proclaim that there is no end or limit to the virtues and the expanse of God.
Shastras sita zinatangaza kwa sauti ya juu kwamba hakuna mwisho au kikomo cha fadhila na upana wa Mungu.

ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੬॥
bhagat soheh gun gaavtay naanak parabh kai du-aar. ||6||
O’ Nanak, God’s devotees look beauteous singing praises at His door.||6||
Ee Nanak, watawa wa Mungu wanakaa vizuri wakiimba sifa zake mlangoni pake.

The sixth lunar day: The six Shastras, and countless Smritis say,
