ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੩੩॥
naanak naam ratay nihkayval nirbaanee. ||4||13||33||
O’ Nanak, they who are imbued with God’s Name are truly detached, and emancipated from worldly bonds.||4||13||33||
Ee Nanak, wale ambao wamevama katika Jina la Mungu kwa kweli wamejitenga, na wamekombolewa kutoka vifungo vya kidunia.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥
satgur milai vadbhaag sanjog.
Through great fortune and destiny, one meets with the true Guru,
Kupitia bahati na hatima nzuri, mtu anakutana na Guru wa kweli,

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ॥੧॥
hirdai naam nit har ras bhog. ||1||
Naam dwells within his heart and he daily enjoys the elixir of God’s, Name. ||1||
Naam inaishi moyoni mwake na kila siku anafurahia dawa ya Jina la Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
gurmukh paraanee naam har Dhi-aa-ay.
The one who lovingly meditates on God’s Name through the Guru’s teachings,
Yule ambaye anatafakari kwa upendo kuhusu Jina la Mungu kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਜਨਮੁ ਜੀਤਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam jeet laahaa naam paa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He wins in the game of life, and earns the wealth of the Naam. ||1||Pause||
Anashinda katika mchezo wa maisha, na kuchuma utajiri wa Naam. ||1||Sitisha||

ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
gi-aan Dhi-aan gur sabad hai meethaa.
Unto whom the Guru’s Word seems sweet, for him the Guru’s word is the meditation and divine wisdom.
Kwa yule ambaye Neno la Guru linaonekana kuwa tamu, kwake neno la Guru ni utafakari na hekima takatifu.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੨॥
gur kirpaa tay kinai virlai chakh deethaa. ||2||
But only a rare person, by Guru’s Grace, has tasted this sweetness.||2||
Lakini ni mtu nadra pekee, kwa Neema ya Guru, ameonja utamu huu.

ਕਰਮ ਕਾਂਡ ਬਹੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਚਾਰ ॥
karam kaaNd baho karahi achaar.
Those who perform all sorts of religious rituals and good deeds,
Wale wanaotenda aina yote ya mila za kidini na vitendo vyema,

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
bin naavai Dharig Dharig ahaNkaar. ||3||
without Naam, these rituals and deeds produce ego and their life remainsdoomed. ||3|
bila Naam, mila za vitendo hivi vinazalisha ubinafsi na maisha yao yanabaki yamehukumiwa maangamizi.

ਬੰਧਨਿ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ਫਾਸ ॥
banDhan baaDhi-o maa-i-aa faas.
The one without Naam remains bound to the noose of worldly attachments.
Yule ambaye hana Naam anabaki amefungwa katika kitanzi cha viambatisho vya kidunia.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੩੪॥
jan naanak chhootai gur pargaas. ||4||14||34||
O’ Nanak, he is released only when enlightened by the Guru’s word. |4|14|34|
Ee Nanak, anaachiliwa tu wakati anaangazwa kwa neno la Guru.

ਜੈਸੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਊਪਰਿਮੇਘੁਲਾ ਬਰਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਧੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jaisee Dhartee oopar mayghulaa barsat hai ki-aa Dhartee maDhay paanee naahee.
The clouds pour rain on the earth, isn’t there water within the earth as well?Similarly, additional enlightenment is needed in spite of existing wisdom.
Mawingu yanamwaga mvua kwa dunia, kwani hakuna maji ardhini pia? Sawia na hayo, kuangazwa kwengine kunahitajika licha ya hekina iliyopo.

ਜੈਸੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਧੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਗਾ ਵਰਸਤ ਫਿਰਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
jaisay Dhartee maDhay paanee pargaasi-aa bin pagaa varsat firaa-ee. ||1||
The water within the earth manifests in the form of rivers , yet the clouds keep raining at different places. Similarly, though the knowledge of the Vedas is available to some elite, still there is need for spreading additional divine knowledge in a language which can be understood by ordinary people. ||1||
Maji kwenye ardhi inajidhihirisha katika muundo wa mito, ilhali mawingi yanaendelea kunyesha mahali tofauti. Sawia, ilhali maarifa ya Vedas yanapatikana kwa wakuu wachache, bado kuna haja ya kueneza maarifa takatifu zaidi katika lugha inayoweza kueleweka na watu wa kawaida.

ਬਾਬਾ ਤੂੰ ਐਸੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਹੀ ॥
baabaa tooN aisay bharam chukaahee.
O Baba, please get rid of this doubt,
Ee Baba, tafadhali ondoa shaka hii,

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਤੈਸੇ ਜਾਇ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo kichh karat hai so-ee ko-ee hai ray taisay jaa-ay samaahee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Whatever and wherever any thing is happening, that same God doesit. Everybody and everything ultimately merges back into Him.||1||Pause||
Chochote na popote ambapo kitu chochote kinatendeka, Mungu huyo Mmoja anakitenda. Kila mtu na kila kitu mwishowe kinaungana naye tena. .||1||Sitisha||

ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਕਿਆ ਓਇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
istaree purakh ho-ay kai ki-aa o-ay karam kamaahee.
As a woman or a man, no one can do anything without You.
Kama mwanamke au mwanaume, hakuna mtu anaweza kufanya chochote bila Wewe.

ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਸਦਾ ਹਹਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
naanaa roop sadaa heh tayray tujh hee maahi samaahee. ||2||
O God, all the different forms have always been Yours, and they all ultimately merge back into You. ||2||
Ee Mungu, miundo yote tofauti daima vimekuwa Vyako, na mwishowe yote inaungana nawe tena.

ਇਤਨੇ ਜਨਮ ਭੂਲਿ ਪਰੇ ਸੇ ਜਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
itnay janam bhool paray say jaa paa-i-aa taa bhoolay naahee.
Forgetting God, the mortals go through many births, but when they receive the divine wisdom then their wandering stops.
Wakimsahau Mungu, binadamu wanapitia kuzaliwa upya kwingi, lakini wakati wanapokea hekima takatifu basi kuzurura kwao kunatamatika.

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
jaa kaa kaaraj so-ee par jaanai jay gur kai sabad samaahee. ||3||
Those who remain attuned to the Guru’s word understand that He whose creation is this world, knows all about it.||3|
Wale wanaobaki wamemakinikia neno la Guru wanaelewa kwamba Yeye ambaye dunia hii ni uumbaji wake, anajua yote kuihusu.

ਤੇਰਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਹਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਕਹਾਹੀ ॥
tayraa sabad tooNhai heh aapay bharam kahaahee.
O’ God, it is Your word and You are all by Yourself pervading everywhere all by Yourself. Why should there be any doubt?
Ee Mungu, ni neno lake na Wewe mwenyewe unaenea kote bila yeyote mwengine. Kwa nini kuwe na shaka yoyote?

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤੁ ਤਤ ਸਿਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਆਹੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੫॥੩੫॥
naanak tat tat si-o mili-aa punrap janam na aahee. ||4||1||15||35||
O’ Nanak, he whose soul unites with the supreme light, there are no more cycles of birth and death for him. |4||1||15||35||
Ee Nanak, kwa yule ambaye roho yake inaungana na mwanga mkuu, hakuna mizunguko zaidi ya kuzaliwa na kufa kwake.

ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਕਾਲੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਬਾਧਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
sabh jag kaalai vas hai baaDhaa doojai bhaa-ay.
Bound by the love of duality, almost the entire world is spiritually dead.
Ikinaswa na upendo wa uwili, karibu dunia nzima imekufa kiroho.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
ha-umai karam kamaavday manmukh milai sajaa-ay. ||1||
Swayed by duality, these self-conceited persons commit deeds motivated by ego and are awarded punishment in God’s court. ||1||
Wakiyumbishwa kwa uwili, hao watu wenye majivuno binafsi wanatenda vitendo vilivyohamasishwa na ubinafsi na wanatuzwa adhabu katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
mayray man gur charnee chit laa-ay.
O’ my mind, focus your consciousness on the Guru’s teachings.
Ee akili yangu, kazia fahamu yako kwa mafundisho ya Guru.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਲੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh naam niDhaan lai dargeh la-ay chhadaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s teachings, receive the treasure of Naam, which will save you in the divine court.||1||Pause||
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, pokea hazina ya Naam, ambato itakuokoa katika mahakama takatifu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਭਰਮਦੇ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh bharamday manhath aavai jaa-ay.
Because of the obstinacy of their mind, they wander through millions of incarnations and remain in the cycles of birth and death.
Kwa sababu ya ukaidi wa akili yao, wanazurura kupitia mamilioni ya umwilisho na wanabaki katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨਿਓ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥
gur kaa sabad na cheeni-o fir fir jonee paa-ay. ||2||
These people have not reflected upon the Guru’s word, and therefore they are cast into the womb again and again. ||2||
Hao watu hawajatafakati kuhusu neno la Guru, hivyo basi wanatupwa kwenye chupa cha uzazi tena na tena.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
gurmukh aap pachhaani-aa har naam vasi-aa man aa-ay.
The Guru’s follower who understands own self, God’s Name comes to dwell within his mind.
Mfuasi wa Guru anayeelewa nafsi yake mwenyewe, Jina la Mungu linakuja kuishi akilini mwake.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
an-din bhagtee rati-aa har naamay sukh samaa-ay. ||3||
Being always imbued with devotional worship, he remains merged in God’s Name and thus enjoys bliss. ||3||
Akiwa amejawa na ibada ya kujitolea, anabaki ameunganishwa katika Jina la Mungu na hivyo basi anafurahia raha tele.

ਮਨੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
man sabad marai parteet ho-ay ha-umai tajay vikaar. .
The one who destroys his ego through the Guru’s word and develops faith in it, andrenounces all other vices.
Yule anayeangamiza ubinafsi wake kupitia neno la Guru na kuendeleza imani kwake, na kukataa maovu yote mengine.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਾਈਅਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੬॥੩੬॥
jan naanak karmee paa-ee-an har naamaa bhagat bhandaar. ||4||2||16||36||
O’ Nanak, it is only through God’s grace that one receives the treasures of God’s Name and devotion. ||4||2||16||36||
Ee Nanak, ni kupitia neema ya Mungu pekee ambapo mtu anapokea hazina na Jina la Mungu na kujitolea kwa Mungu

ਗਉੜੀ ਬੈਰਾਗਣਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
pay-ee-arhai din chaar hai har har likh paa-i-aa.
God has so preordained that the bride-soul will stay at her parents’ home (this world) only for a few days.
Mungu ameagiza mapema ya kwamba roho kama bi harusi atabaki katika nyumba ya wazazi wake (dunia hii) kwa siku chache tu.

ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
sobhaavantee naar hai gurmukh gun gaa-i-aa.
Honorable is that soul-bride who, following the Guru’s teachings, sings the praises of God.
Anaheshimika huyo roho kama bi harusi ambaye, kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, anaimba sifa za Mungu.

ਪੇਵਕੜੈ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਮਲੈ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਵਾਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
payvkarhai gun sammlai saahurai vaas paa-i-aa.
The soul-bride who acquires virtues in the this world receives honor in God’s court.
Roho kama bi harusi anayepata fadhila duniani humu anapokea heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
gurmukh sahj samaanee-aa har har man bhaa-i-aa. ||1||
Thesoul-bride to whom God seems pleasing, by the Guru’s Grace merge intuitively in Him. ||1||
Roho kama bi harusi anayependezwa na Mungu, kwa Neema ya Guru anaungana naye kwa hisia na silika.

ਸਸੁਰੈ ਪੇਈਐ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sasurai pay-ee-ai pir vasai kaho kit biDh paa-ee-ai.
O’ my friend, tell me who that Husband-God can be realized? Who dwells both in this world, and in the world beyond.
Ee rafiki yangu, niambie jinsi Mume-Mungu huyo anaweza kugunduliwa? Anayeishi katika dunia hii, na katika dunia ya baadaye.

ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aap niranjan alakh hai aapay maylaa-ee-ai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Immaculate Lord Himself is unseen. He unites us with Himself. ||1||Pause|| The immaculate God is imperceptible. It is on His own that He unites a person with Himself. ||1||Pause||
Mungu safi hawezi kujulikana. Ni kwa hiari yake mwenyewe ambapo Yeye anaunganisha mtu naye mwenyewe.
