Raag Aasaa, Third Guru:
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਾਦੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਾਈ ॥
aapai aap pachhaani-aa saad meethaa bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, when one starts examining his own spiritual life, then he starts enjoying the sweet taste of the nectar of Naam.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ਜਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਪੜਤਾਲਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲਗਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਚਾਖਿਐ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਸਾਚੋ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
har ras chaakhi-ai mukat bha-ay jinHaa saacho bhaa-ee. ||1||
Those to whom God seems pleasing, become free of the worldly attachments by parkaking the elixir of God’s Name.||1||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
har jee-o nirmal nirmalaa nirmal man vaasaa.
God is absolutely immaculate and He dwells only in an immaculate mind.
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmatee salaahee-ai bikhi-aa maahi udaasaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
If we Praise God through the Guru’s teachings, then even while living in the world, we can remain unaffected by Maya (worldly riches). ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਸਭ ਅੰਧੀ ਭਾਈ ॥
bin sabdai aap na jaap-ee sabh anDhee bhaa-ee.
O’ brother, without the Guru’s word we cannot understand our own self; without it the entire world remains blind (ignorant) in the love for Maya.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹੋਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੨॥
gurmatee ghat chaannaa naam ant sakhaa-ee. ||2||
Through the Guru’s teachings, the heart is spiritually illuminated; God’s Name becomes our helper in the end. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅੰਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
naamay hee naam varatday naamay vartaaraa.
The Guru’s followers always keep meditating on Naam; even while doing their worldly business they remain attuned to God’s Name.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਤਕਾਰ ਕਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
antar naam mukh naam hai naamay sabad veechaaraa. ||3||
Naam is always there in their heart and they always recite Naam; they always deliberate on Naam through the Guru’s word. ||3||
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰ-ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
naam sunee-ai naam mannee-ai naamay vadi-aa-ee.
We should also listen Naam and believe Naam because it is through Naam that we obtain honor here and hereafter.
ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥
naam salaahay sadaa sadaa naamay mahal paa-ee. ||4||
The person who always praises Naam, through Naam he realizes God’s presence in his heart. ||4||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹਰਿ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥
naamay hee ghat chaannaa naamay sobhaa paa-ee.
It is through God’s Name that one’s heart is illuminated with divine knowledge and through Naam one receives honor everywhere.
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ) ਚਾਨਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੫॥
naamay hee sukh oopjai naamay sarnaa-ee. ||5||
Spiritual bliss is experienced through Naam, therefore we should always remain in God’s refuge. ||5||
ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਏ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
bin naavai ko-ay na mannee-ai manmukh pat gavaa-ee.
Without meditating on Naam, no one is accepted in God’s presence; the self-willed persons lose their honor in God’s presence .
ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੬॥
jam pur baaDhay maaree-ah birthaa janam gavaa-ee. ||6||
These self-willed people waste their human life in vain and are severely punished in the city of death (the world hereafter). ||6||
ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਪੁਰੀ (ਅਗਲੇ ਜਹਾਨ) ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝੇ ਮਾਰ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
naamai kee sabh sayvaa karai gurmukh naam bujhaa-ee.
All serve that person who meditates on God’s Name. But only the Guru blesses us the intellect to meditate on Naam.
ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮਹੁ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥
naamhu hee naam mannee-ai naamay vadi-aa-ee. ||7||
It is because of meditation on Naam that one becomes known and only through Naam one gets glory here and hereafter. ||7||
ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੭॥
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
jis no dayvai tis milai gurmatee naam bujhaa-ee.
Only that person receives the gift of Naam to whom God Himself blesses it. Through the Guru’s teachings God makes that person understand Naam.
ਨਾਮ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੋਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੭॥੨੯॥
naanak sabh kichh naavai kai vas hai poorai bhaag ko paa-ee. ||8||7||29||
O’ Nanak, everything is under the influence of Naam; by perfect destiny, only a rare one is blessed with Naam. ||8||7||29||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰੇਕ (ਆਦਰ-ਮਾਣ) ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ। ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥੭॥੨੯॥

Raag Aasaa, Third Guru:
ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
duhaaganee mahal na paa-inHee na jaanan pir kaa su-aa-o.
The unfortunate soul-brides can’t realize God’s presence in their heart, therefore they do not know the joy of union with their Husband-God.
ਮੰਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ।
ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਨਾ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥
fikaa boleh naa niveh doojaa bhaa-o su-aa-o. ||1||
They speak harsh words and do not bow to Him; they enjoy the love of worldly pleasures, instead of God. ||1||
ਉਹ ਖਰ੍ਹਵਾ ਬੋਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਲਿਫਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀਆਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
ih manoo-aa ki-o kar vas aavai.
How can this mind come under control?
ਇਹ ਮਨ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਠਾਕੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee thaakee-ai gi-aan matee ghar aavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By the Guru’s Grace, it can be stopped from going astray; instructed in spiritual wisdom of the Guru, it returns within itself. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ- ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ- ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਆ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਓਨੁ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
sohaaganee aap savaaree-on laa-ay paraym pi-aar.
By imbuing them with His love and affection God has Himself embellished the fortunate soul-brides.
ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
satgur kai bhaanai chaldee-aa naamay sahj seegaar. ||2||
They always conduct their lives according to the true Guru’s will; intuitively meditating on Naam is the adornment of their spiritual life. ||2||
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
sadaa raaveh pir aapnaa sachee sayj subhaa-ay.
They always enjoy the presence of their Husband-God in their heart which is always imbued with His love.
ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੇਜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮੋਹੀਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥
pir kai paraym mohee-aa mil pareetam sukh paa-ay. ||3||
They are fascinated with the Love of their Husband-God; meeting their Beloved, they enjoy spiritual peace. ||3||
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੩॥
ਗਿਆਨ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
gi-aan apaar seegaar hai sobhaavantee naar.
The soul-bride whose adornment is divine wisdom has infinite treasure of Naam; such a soul-bride is honorable.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਖ਼ਜਾਨਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਐਸੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਖੱਟਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਾ ਸਭਰਾਈ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥
saa sabhraa-ee sundree pir kai hayt pi-aar. ||4||
Because of the love and affection of her Husband-God, she looks so beautiful as if she is the favorite queen of the Husband-God . ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੀ ਪਟਰਾਣੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਅਲਖਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥
sohaaganee vich rang rakhi-on sachai alakh apaar.
The incomprehensible and infinite God Himself has imbued the hearts of the fortunate soul-brides with His love.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਅਲੱਖ ਤੇ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸੋਹਾਗਣ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਆਪ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ,
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੫॥
satgur sayvan aapnaa sachai bhaa-ay pi-aar. ||5||
Imbued with the love and affection of God, they keep serving their true Guru by following his teachings. ||5||
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ) ॥੫॥
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਗਲਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
sohaaganee seegaar banaa-i-aa gun kaa gal haar.
The fortunate soul-brides have decked themselves with the necklace of virtues.
ਸੋਹਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਨੇਕੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਗਰਦਨ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਵਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੬॥
paraym pirmal tan lavana antar ratan veechaar. ||6||
They apply the scent of God’s love on their bodies and enshrine within them the invaluable divine wisdom. ||6||
ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ ਲਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ,ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ॥੬॥
ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਊਤਮਾ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhagat ratay say ootmaa jat pat sabday ho-ay.
Those who are imbued with devotional worship are the most exalted; higher spiritual status and honor is attained by reflecting on the Guru’s word.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹਨ ਉਹੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਹਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਜਾਤ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥
bin naavai sabh neech jaat hai bistaa kaa keerhaa ho-ay. ||7||
All those, who are without God’s Name are of low spiritual status. In fact without Naam they are like worms living in filth. ||7||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਹੀ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤਿ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ। (ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਗੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ ਕਿਰਮ ਹਨ ॥੭॥
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਦੀ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
ha-o ha-o kardee sabh firai bin sabdai ha-o na jaa-ay.
The entire humanity is wandering in self-conceit; the ego does not depart without reflecting on the Guru’s word.
ਸਾਰੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਫਰੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਈ ਸਚੈ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੮॥੩੦॥
naanak naam ratay tin ha-umai ga-ee sachai rahay samaa-ay. ||8||8||30||
O’ Nanak, those who are imbued with Naam, their ego departs and they remain absorbed in remembering the eternal God. ||8||8||30||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੮॥੮॥੩੦॥

Raag Aasaa, Third Guru:
ਸਚੇ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
sachay ratay say nirmalay sadaa sachee so-ay.
Those who are imbued with the love of the eternal God are immaculate, and everlasting is their reputation.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ,
ਐਥੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਆਗੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
aithai ghar ghar jaapday aagai jug jug pargat ho-ay. ||1||
They are known in every house-hold while in this life and hereafter, they remain famous throughout the ages. ||1||
ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਘੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਗਾਂਹ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
