ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tis roop na raykh-i-aa ghat ghat daykhi-aa gurmukh alakh lakhaavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
That God has no form or shape, yet He is seen pervading all hearts. But it is only by following the Guru’s teachings that incomprehensible One can be realized.
ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਸ ਰੂਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਚਿਹਨ-ਚੱਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਉਂਞ) ਉਹ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
too da-i-aal kirpaal parabh so-ee.
O’ God, You are the merciful and compassionate Master for all creatures.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਦਇਆ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਹੈਂ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
tuDh bin doojaa avar na ko-ee.
Without You, there is no other at all.
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੁ ਪਰਸਾਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
gur parsaad karay naam dayvai naamay naam samaavani-aa. ||2||
If the Guru showers his grace, and blesses one with the Name, then by meditating on the Name one merges in You.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
tooN aapay sachaa sirjanhaaraa.
O’ God, You Yourself are the True Creator.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
bhagtee bharay tayray bhandaaraa.
Your treasures of devotional worship are overflowing.
(ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸ) ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
gurmukh naam milai man bheejai sahj samaaDh lagaavani-aa. ||3||
When a Guru’s follower is blessed with Naam, he feels delighted and intuitively enters into a state of deep contemplation.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ) ਰਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਲਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
an-din gun gaavaa parabh tayray.
O’ God, bless me, that I may always sing your praises.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ! (ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
tuDh saalaahee pareetam mayray.
O’ my Beloved, I may keep praising You.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ।ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
tuDh bin avar na ko-ee jaachaa gur parsaadee tooN paavni-aa. ||4||
Without You, there is no other for me to seek out. It is only by Guru’s Grace that You are realized.
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਾਹ ਮੰਗਾਂ। (ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਮਿਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
agam agochar mit nahee paa-ee.
O’ God, You are incomprehensible. No one has been able to know Your limit.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ ਹੈਂ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਸੋਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ ਕੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ-ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਅਪਣੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਲੈਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥
apnee kirpaa karahi tooN laihi milaa-ee.
When You show Your mercy on someone, You unite that person with Yourself.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ (ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
pooray gur kai sabad Dhi-aa-ee-ai sabad sayv sukh paavni-aa. ||5||
It is only through the perfect Guru one can meditate on God. One can enjoy the bliss by enshrining the Guru’s teachings in the heart.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
ਰਸਨਾ ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
rasnaa gunvantee gun gaavai.
Meritorious is the person who sings God’s praises.
ਉਹ ਜੀਭ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
naam salaahay sachay bhaavai.
Praising the Naam, one becomes pleasing to the True One.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਚੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gurmukh sadaa rahai rang raatee mil sachay sobhaa paavni-aa. ||6||
The Guru’s follower always remains imbued with the love of God. Realizing the eternal God, glory is obtained.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਭ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਸੋਭਾ ਪਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
manmukh karam karay ahaNkaaree.
The self-willed person does all the deeds out of ego.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਜੂਐ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਭ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥
joo-ai janam sabh baajee haaree.
He loses in the gamble of life.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਹਾਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
antar lobh mahaa gabeira fir fir aavan jaavan-aa. ||7||
Within him is the greed and terrible darkness of ignorance. He keeps suffering in the cycles of birth and death.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੋਭ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਘੁੱਪ ਹਨੇਰਾ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
aapay kartaa day vadi-aa-ee.
The Creator Himself bestows Glory on those,
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
jin ka-o aap likhat Dhur paa-ee.
whom He Himself has so predestined.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦਾ ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੩੪॥
naanak naam milai bha-o bhanjan gur sabdee sukh paavni-aa. ||8||1||34||
O’ Nanak, they are blessed with Naam, the destroyer of fear and they enjoy peace by following the Guru’s word.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ) ਨੂੰ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ) ਡਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ

Maajh Raag, by the Fifth Guru, First Beat:
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ॥
antar alakh na jaa-ee lakhi-aa.
Incomprehensible God is within all, but everyone cannot comprehend this.
ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰ (ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਨੂੰ) ਜਾਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਲੈ ਗੁਝਾ ਰਖਿਆ ॥
naam ratan lai gujhaa rakhi-aa.
He has placed the jewel like Naam in a concealed place within the body.
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਨਾਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਲੁਕਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ l
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
agam agochar sab te oocha gur kai sabad lakhavani-aa. ||1||
The Inaccessible and Incomprehensible God, the highest of all, is realized through the Guru’s word.
ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਸੋਚ ਤੋਂ ਉਚੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree kal meh naam sunaavni-aa.
I dedicate my life, to those who recite and preach Naam in this age of Kalyug.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਚੈ ਧਾਰੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant pi-array sachai Dhaaray vadbhagi darshan paavni-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Beloved Saints, whom the eternal God has provided His support, have the good fortune to obtain His Blessed Vision.
ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ l
ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਜਿਸੈ ਕਉ ਫਿਰਦੇ ॥
saaDhik siDh ji sai ka-o fir-day.
The One, who is sought by the Siddhas and the seekers,
ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਗੀ, ਜੋਗ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੋਗੀ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ॥
barahmay indar Dhi-aa-in hirday.
upon Whom Brahma and Indra meditate within their hearts,
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ (ਆਦਿ ਦੇਵਤੇ) ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸਾ ਖੋਜਹਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
kot tayteesaa khojeh taa ka-o gur mil hirdai gaavani-aa. ||2||
and the 330 million of other gods search for Him. But the fortunate people, meeting the Guru are singing His praises in their hearts.
ਤੇਤੀ ਕ੍ਰੋੜ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਭੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ l ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਾਪੇ ਪਵਨਾ ॥
aath pahar tuDh jaapay pavnaa.
O’ God, the wind always moves around according to Your command.
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੋਈ) ਹਵਾ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਧਰਤੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਾਇਕ ਚਰਨਾ ॥
Dhartee sayvak paa-ik charnaa.
The entire creation is humbly at your command.
ਤੇਰੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ) ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਟਹਲਣ ਹੈ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਾਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸਭਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
khaanee banee sarab nivaasee sabhnaa kai man bhaavni-aa. ||3||
You pervade in creatures from all the four sources of creation and people with different languages. You are pleasing to the minds of all.
ਚੌਹਾਂ ਖਾਣੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੰਮੇ ਹੋਏ ਤੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥
saachaa saahib gurmukh jaapai.
The eternal God is realized by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ॥
pooray gur kai sabad sinjaapai.
He is realized through the Shabad, the Word of the Perfect Guru.
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਣ-ਪਛਾਣ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਨ ਪੀਆ ਸੇਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਅਘਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
jin pee-aa say-ee tariptaasay sachay sach aghaavani-aa. ||4||
They who have partaken of the nectar of Naam, are satiated with the truest of the true.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸਚਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਮ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਜੇ ਹਨ
ਤਿਸੁ ਘਰਿ ਸਹਜਾ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥
tis ghar sahjaa so-ee suhaylaa.
There is (spiritual) peace in that heart, and that person is comfortable,
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖੀ (ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ) ਹੈ,
ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਰੇ ਸਦ ਕੇਲਾ ॥
anad binod karay sad kaylaa.
such a person always enjoys spiritual pleasure and bliss.
ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੋ ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਸੋ ਵਡ ਸਾਹਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
so Dhanvantaa so vad saahaa jo gur charnee man laavani-aa. ||5||
The one who attunes the mind to Guru’s word, is truly rich and a lofty banker.
ਅਸਲ ਧਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
ਪਹਿਲੋ ਦੇ ਤੈਂ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥
pahilo day taiN rijak samaahaa.
First, You created sustenance,
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਰਿਜ਼ਕ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ,
ਪਿਛੋ ਦੇ ਤੈਂ ਜੰਤੁ ਉਪਾਹਾ ॥
pichho day taiN jant upaahaa.
then, You created the living beings.
ਫਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਲਵੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
tuDh jayvad daataa avar na su-aamee lavai na ko-ee laavani-aa. ||6||
None is so great a provider as You are, O’ my Master, no one even comes closer.
ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਜੇਡਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ l
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਤੁਠਾ ਸੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥
jis tooN tuthaa so tuDh Dhi-aa-ay.
On whom You Become gracious, they remember You,
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
saaDh janaa kaa mantar kamaa-ay.
and practice the teachings of the Saints
ਉਹ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਰਗਹ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
aap tarai saglay kul taaray tis dargeh thaak na paavni-aa. ||7||
Such a person swims across worldly-ocean of vices and emancipates his family too. None can bar his entry into God’s court.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਆਪ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ
