ਇਕਿ ਕੂੜਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਕੂੜੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਏ ॥
ik koorh laagay koorhay fal paa-ay.
Some are stuck in falsehood, and false are the rewards they receive.
ਕਈ ਝੂਠ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਮੁਰਾਦਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
doojai bhaa-ay birthaa janam gavaa-ay.
In love with duality, they waste away their lives in vain.
ਦਵੈਤ-ਭਾਵ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਬੇਅਰਥ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਡੋਬੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
aap dubay saglay kul dobay koorh bol bikh khaavani-aa. ||6||
They drown themselves, along with their entire family in the love of Maya. Indulged in Falsehood, whatever they earn and eat is poison for the spiritual life.
ਉਹ ਆਪ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਡੋਬੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਜ਼ਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ l
ਇਸੁ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਖੈ ॥
is tan meh man ko gurmukh daykhai.
It is only a rare Guru’s follower who reflects on the mind within his body,
ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਦੇਹਿ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਪਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਝਾਤੀ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸੋਖੈ ॥
bhaa-ay bhagat jaa ha-umai sokhai.
and removes his ego through loving devotional worship of God.
ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
siDh saaDhik moniDhaaree rahay liv laa-ay tin bhee tan meh man na dikhaavani-aa. ||7||
The Siddhas, the seekers and the silent sages try to focus on their consciousness, but they also are not able to control their mind within the body.
ਪੁੱਗੇ ਹੋਈ ਜੋਗੀ, ਜੋਗ-ਸਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੋਗੀ, ਮੋਨ-ਧਾਰੀ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜਨ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਭੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦੇ ॥
ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
aap karaa-ay kartaa so-ee.
The Creator Himself inspires us to control our mind.
ਉਹ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ) ਉੱਦਮ) ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਹੋਰੁ ਕਿ ਕਰੇ ਕੀਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥
hor ke karay keetai ki-aa ho-ee.
what can anyone do? No one can accomplish a task on one’s own.
ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੱਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਨਾਮੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੩॥੨੪॥
naanak jis naam dayvai so layvai naamo man vasaavani-aa. ||8||23||24||
O Nanak, only that person whom God gives His Name receives this gift, and keeps Naam enshrined in the mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਇਸੁ ਗੁਫਾ ਮਹਿ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
is gufaa meh akhut bhandaaraa.
Within this cave of the human body lies inexhaustible treasure of spiritual virtues
ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ (ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਤਨੇ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ (ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਜੋ) ਮੁੱਕਣ ਜੋਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ,
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
tis vich vasai har alakh apaaraa.
Within this body, dwells the Invisible and Infinite God.
ਇਸ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਤ ਤੇ ਅਨੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਵੰਞਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
aapay gupat pargat hai aapay gur sabdee aap vanjaavan-i-aa. ||1||
They who rid themselves of their self conceit through the Guru’s word, realize that God pervades everywhere, both in His visible and invisible form.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਤੱਖ ਨਜ਼ਰੀ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree amrit naam man vasaavani-aa.
I devote my life and soul, to those who enshrine the Ambrosial Name of God in their minds.
ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਤੇ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
amrit naam mahaa ras meethaa gurma.tee amrit pee-aavni-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Ambrosial elixir of God’s Name is extremely sweet! It is by the Guru’s teachings that a person is able to partake of this nectar.
ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
ha-umai maar bajar kapaat khulaa-i-aa.
Subduing egotism, the person who has opened the tough doors of ignorance,
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ) ਕਰੜੇ ਭਿੱਤ ਖੋਹਲ ਲਏ ਹਨ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
naam amolak gur parsaadee paa-i-aa.
by the Guru’s Grace, has realized the invaluable Naam.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥
bin sabdai naam na paa-ay ko-ee gur kirpaa man vasaavani-aa. ||2||
Without the divine word, the Naam is not obtained. By the Guru’s Grace, it is enshrined within the mind.
ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾਹਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gur gi-aan anjan sach naytree paa-i-aa.
The one who has applied to his eyes the ointment of Guru’s divine wisdom.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ (ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ) ਅੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੈ l
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
antar chaanan agi-aan anDhayr gavaa-i-aa.
Deep within him, the Divine Light has dawned, and the darkness of ignorance has been dispelled.
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਬੇਸਮਝੀ ਦਾ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰਾ ਦੁਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
jotee jot milee man maani-aa har dar sobhaa paavni-aa. ||3||
His soul merges with the Supreme soul ; the mind gets convinced, and he is blessed with Glory in God’s Court.
ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਭਾਲਣਿ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਏ ॥
sareerahu bhaalan ko baahar jaa-ay.
If one goes in search of Naam outside the body,
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੁਫ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਵੇ,
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੇਗਾਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
naam na lahai bahut vaygaar dukh paa-ay.
he will not receive Naam; instead he will suffer the pains of uncompensated labor.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ, ਉਹ ਵਿਗਾਰੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਘਿਰਿ ਆਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਥੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
manmukh anDhay soojhai naahee fir ghir aa-ay gurmukh vath paavni-aa. ||4||
The self-conceited, blinded by Maya, does not understand. But when after much wandering he returns to the Guru’s shelter, he finds Naam within.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। (ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਖ਼ਰ ਉਹ ਆ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur parsaadee sachaa har paa-ay.
When by the Guru’s Grace, one realizes the eternal God,
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਹਰੀ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਜਾਏ ॥
man tan vaykhai ha-umai mail jaa-ay.
then one beholds Him, both in the body and mind, and the filth of ego departs.
ਤਾ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਬੈਸਿ ਸੁਥਾਨਿ ਸਦ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
bais suthaan sad har gun gaavai sachai sabad samaavani-aa. ||5||
Sitting in the holy congregation, he always sings the Glorious Praises of God, and remains merged in Him through the Guru’s word.
ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਨਉ ਦਰ ਠਾਕੇ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥
na-o dar thaakay Dhaavat rahaa-ay.
The ones who controls the nine doors of the body (eyes, ears, nostrils, tongue, sex and excretory opening) and restrains the wandering mind from the vices,
ਜੋ ਆਪਦੇ ਨੌ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਦੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਦਸਵੈ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਏ ॥
dasvai nij ghar vaasaa paa-ay.
Through exalted spiritual state comes to dwell in the tenth door (true home of the self where God dwells.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੁਰਤ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਸਲ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਨਿਵਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਓਥੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਵਜਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
othai anhad sabad vajeh din raatee gurmatee sabad sunaavni-aa. ||6||
There, the Unstruck Melody of the divine music vibrates day and night. Through the Guru’s teachings, the Shabad (divine word) is heard.
ਉਥੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਵਜਾਏ ਵੱਜਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਗ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਗੂੰਜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਇਹ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੀ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਨੇਰਾ ॥
bin sabdai antar aanayraa.
Without the Guru’s teachings, there is only darkness of ignorance within.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਹੈ।
ਨ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥
na vasat lahai na chookai fayraa.
He neither obtains the wealth of Naam, nor his rounds of birth and death end.
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
satgur hath kunjee horat dar khulai naahee gur poorai bhaag milaavani-aa. ||7||
The key to the wealth of Naam is in the hands of the True Guru; no one else can open this door. And the Guru is met only by perfect destiny.
ਕੁੰਜੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ,ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ਤੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਭੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ l
ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
gupat pargat tooN sabhnee thaa-ee.
Hidden or revealed, You are pervading in all the places.
ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ, (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਤੱਖ (ਦਿੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭਾ ਦਾ) ਲੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈਂ।
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur parsaadee mil sojhee paa-ee.
This understanding is obtained after realizing You through the Guru’s grace.
ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੨੪॥੨੫॥
naanak naam salaahi sadaa tooN gurmukh man vasaavani-aa. ||8||24||25||
O’ Nanak, praise the Naam forever; and through the Guru’s teachings, enshrine it within the mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਦੀਵ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਾ।
ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Raag Maajh, by the Third Guru:
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥
gurmukh milai milaa-ay aapay.
God Himself unites a Guru’s follower with the Guru.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ॥
kaal na johai dukh na santaapay.
The demon of death does not look towards him, and no suffering afflicts him.
(ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਸਭ ਤੋੜੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥
ha-umai maar banDhan sabh torhai gurmukh sabad suhaavani-aa. ||1||
Subduing egotism, he breaks all the bonds; and lives a righteous life by following the Guru’s teachings.
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
ha-o vaaree jee-o vaaree har har naam suhaavani-aa.
I dedicate myself to the one who lives a righteous life by meditating on Naam.
ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gurmukh gaavai gurmukh naachai har saytee chit laavani-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru’s follower sings God’s praises and remains in ecstasy with the mind attuned to God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਹੁਲਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ l
