ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ਅਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਜਾਪੈ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
bhagat niraalee alaah dee jaapai gur veechaar.
God’s devotional worship is unique in this respect, that it is understood only by reflecting on the Guru’s word.
Ibada ya ujitoaji ni ya kipekee katika jambo hili, kwamba inaeleweka tu kwa kuwaza kwa makini kuhusu neno la Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭੈ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥੯॥੧੪॥੩੬॥
naanak naam hirdai vasai bhai bhagtee naam savaar. ||9||14||36||
O’ Nanak, one who realizes God’s presence in his heart, the unique devotional worship and the revered fear of God embellishes his life by keeping him attuned to Naam. ||9||14||36||
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye anagundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwake, ibada ya kipekee ya ujitoaji na uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu unapamba maisha yake kwa kumweka amemakinikia Naam.

ਅਨ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਭੋਲਾਇਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਇ ॥
an ras meh bholaa-i-aa bin naamai dukh paa-ay.
Lost in other worldly pleasures, a person goes astray and remains miserable without meditating on Naam.
Wakipotea katika raha za kidunia, mtu anapotoka na kubaki ametaabika bila kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਜਿ ਸਚੀ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੧॥
satgur purakh na bhayti-o je sachee boojh bujhaa-ay. ||1||
Such a person does not meet the true Guru, the Primal Being, who imparts true understanding about meditation on Naam. ||1||
Mtu kama huyo hakutani na Guru wa kweli, Kiumbe cha Asili, anayeweka ndani mwake uelewa kuhusu kutafakari Naam.

ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਵਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਖਿ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
ay man mayray baavlay har ras chakh saad paa-ay.
O’ my insane mind, partake and enjoy the sublime essence of God’s Name.
Ee akili yangu yenye kichaa, shiriki na ufurahie kiini tukufu cha Jina la Mungu.

ਅਨ ਰਸਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੂੰ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
an ras laagaa tooN fireh birthaa janam gavaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Attached to other worldly pleasures, you are wandering around wasting your life in vain. ||1||Pause||
Ukiambatishwa kwa raha nyingine za kidunia, unazurura kote ukiharibu maisha yako bure. ||1||Sitisha||

ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
is jug meh gurmukh nirmalay sach naam raheh liv laa-ay.
In this world, only immaculate are the Guru’s followers who remain attuned to the eternal God’s Name.
Katika dunia hii, wafuasi wa Guru pekee ni safi wanaobaki wamemakinikia Jina la Mungu wa milele.

ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
vin karmaa kichh paa-ee-ai nahee ki-aa kar kahi-aa jaa-ay. ||2||
Nothing is obtained without good pre-ordained destiny; what can one say or do?
Hakuna kitu kinapatwa bila hatima nzuri iliyoagiziwa mapema; mtu anaweza kusema au kufanya nini?

ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
aap pachhaaneh sabad mareh manhu taj vikaar.
Those who search and understands their own self; through the Guru’s word, they eradicate ego and vices from their mind.
Wale wanaotafuta na kuelewa nafsi yao wenyewe; kupitia neno la Guru, wanatokomeza ubinafsi na maovu kutoka wa akili yao.

ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰ ॥੩॥
gur sarnaa-ee bhaj pa-ay bakhsay bakhsanhaar. ||3||
They hurry to the Guru’s refuge and are forgiven by the forgiving God. ||3||
Wanaharikisha kuenda kwa kimbilio cha Guru na wamesamehewa na Mungu mwenye msamaha.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin naavai sukh na paa-ee-ai naa dukh vichahu jaa-ay.
Without meditating on God’s Name, neither we enjoy peace nor does the misery depart from within.
Bila kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, hatufurahii amani wala taabu haiondoki kutoka ndani mwake.

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥੪॥
ih jag maa-i-aa mohi vi-aapi-aa doojai bharam bhulaa-ay. ||4||
This world is engrossed in love of Maya (worldly wealth and power); it has gone astray in duality and doubt. ||4||
Dunia hii imevama katika upendo wa Maya (utajiri wa nguvu wa kidunia); imepotoka katika uwili na shaka.

ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
duhaaganee pir kee saar na jaanhee ki-aa kar karahi seegaar.
The unfortunate soul-brides do not understand the worth of their Husband-God; what would they achieve by decorating themselves.
Roho-bi harusi wasio na bahati hawaelewi thamani ya Mume-Mungu wao; watatimiza nini kwa kujipamba.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਜਲਦੀਆ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸੇਜੈ ਰਵੈ ਨ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
an-din sadaa jaldee-aa fireh sayjai ravai na bhataar. ||5||
Every day, they continually agonize themselves because they do not realize and enjoy their Husband-God’s presence in their hearts. ||5||
Kila siku, wanajitesa wenyewe kila wakati kwa sababu hawagundui na kufurahia uwepo wa Mume-Mungu wao mioyoni mwao.

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
sohaaganee mahal paa-i-aa vichahu aap gavaa-ay.
The fortunate soul-brides realize God’s presence in their heart by eradicating their ego from within.
Roho-bi harusi wenye bahati nzuri wanagundua uwepo wa Mungu moyoni mwao kwa kuondoa ubinafsi kutoka ndani mwao.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੀਆ ਅਪਣੇ ਸਹਿ ਲਈਆ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੬॥
gur sabdee seegaaree-aa apnay seh la-ee-aa milaa-ay. ||6||
They decorate themselves with the Guru’s word and their Husband-God unites them with Himself. ||6||
Wanajipamba na neno la Guru na Mume-Mungu wao anawaunganisha naye Mwenyewe.

ਮਰਣਾ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
marnaa manhu visaari-aa maa-i-aa moh bubaar.
In the pitch darkness of ignorance created by their attachment to Maya (worldly attachments), people have forgotten death from their minds.
Katika giza totoro ya ujinga iliyoumbwa na kiambatisho chao cha Maya (viambatisho vya kidunia), watu wamesahau kifo kutoka akili zao.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਭੀ ਮਰਹਿ ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੭॥
manmukh mar mar jameh bhee mareh jam dar hohi khu-aar. ||7||
The self-willed persons remain spiritually dead and keep going in the cycles of birth and death; they are continuously tortured by the fear of death. ||7||
Watu wenye hiari binafsi wanabaki wamekufa kiroho na wanaendelea kupitia mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa; wanateswa mara kwa mara na uoga wa kifo.

ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਸੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
aap milaa-i-an say milay gur sabad veechaar.
Only those, whom God unites with Himself, are united with Him through deliberation on the Guru’s word.
Wale tu, ambao Mungu anaunganisha naye Mwenyewe, wanaunganishwa na Yeye kwa kujadili kuhusu neno la Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੨੨॥੧੫॥੩੭॥
naanak naam samaanay mukh ujlay tit sachai darbaar. ||8||22||15||37||
O’ Nanak, they who remain absorbed in God’s Name, are honored in the eternal God’s presence. ||8||22||15||37||
Ee Nanak, wale wanaobaki wamevama katika Jina la Mungu, wanaenziwa katika uwepo wa Mungu wa milele.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਘਰੁ ੨

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God, realized by the grace of the true Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele, anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa kweli:

ਪੰਚ ਮਨਾਏ ਪੰਚ ਰੁਸਾਏ ॥
panch manaa-ay panch rusaa-ay.
One who reconciled with five virtues (truth, contentment, compassion, faith and patience), and antagonized five evils (lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego).
Yule ambaye amepatanishwwa na fadhila tano (ukweli, kutoshelezwa, ukarimu, imani na subira), na kuwa na uhasama na maovu matano (ukware, hasira, tamaa, kiambatisho, na ubinafsi).

ਪੰਚ ਵਸਾਏ ਪੰਚ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੧॥
panch manaa-ay panch rusaa-ay. panch vasaa-ay panch gavaa-ay. ||1||
And enshrined these five virtues within him and driven out the five evils ||1||
Na kuthamini fadhila hizi tano ndani mwake na kufukuza maovu hayo matano

ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਵੁਠਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
inH biDh nagar vuthaa mayray bhaa-ee.
O’ my brothers, in this way, his body-village became inhabited with virtues and
Ee ndugu zangu, kwa njia hii, kijiji-mwili hiki kinapata fadhila kama wakaaji na

ਦੁਰਤੁ ਗਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
durat ga-i-aa gur gi-aan darirhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
sin departed, when the Guru implanted the spiritual wisdom. ||1||Pause||
dhambi zinaondoka, wakati Guru alipandikiza hekima ya kiroho. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸਾਚ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਵਾਰਿ ॥
saach Dharam kee kar deenee vaar.
He has built the fence of true faith (meditation on God) around it and
Yeye amejenga ua ya imani ya kweli (kutafakari kuhusu Mungu) kuizunguka na

ਫਰਹੇ ਮੁਹਕਮ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
farhay muhkam gur gi-aan beechaar. ||2||
by reflecting on the Guru’s teachings he has made his physical senses so strong, as if he has installed firm gates (to block the entry of vices in the mind). ||2||
kwa kutafakari kuhusu mafundisho ya Guru amefanya hisi zake za kimwili ziwe na nguvu sana kana kwamba ameweka milango thabiti (kuzuia kuingia kwa maovu akilini).

ਨਾਮੁ ਖੇਤੀ ਬੀਜਹੁ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤ ॥
naam khaytee beejahu bhaa-ee meet.
O’ my friends and brothers, plant God’s Name (in your mind).
Ee marafiki na ndugu zangu, pandeni Jina la Mungu (akilini mwenu).

ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਨੀਤ ॥੩॥
sa-udaa karahu gur sayvhu neet. ||3||
Always serve and follow the Guru’s teachings and meditate on Naam. ||3||
Tumikieni na mfuate mafundisho ya Guru daima na mtafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਹਾਟ ॥
saaNt sahj sukh kay sabh haat.
All the sensory organs of the devotees become source of peace, poise and bliss,
Viungo vyote vya hisi vya watawa vinakuwqa chanzo cha amani, utulivu na raha tele,

ਸਾਹ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਏਕੈ ਥਾਟ ॥੪॥
saah vaapaaree aikai thaat. ||4||
when the Guru and the devotees are at the same spiritual level. ||4||
wakati Guru na watawa wako katika kiwango sawa cha kiroho.

ਜੇਜੀਆ ਡੰਨੁ ਕੋ ਲਏ ਨ ਜਗਾਤਿ ॥
jayjee-aa dann ko la-ay na jagaat.
Any kind of taxes or fines are not imposed on those (the spiritual life of those is not affected by vices),
Aina yoyote ya ushuru na fidia hazitozwi kwa wale (maisha yao ya kiroho hayaathiriwi na maovu).

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਪ ॥੫॥
satgur kar deenee Dhur kee chhaap. ||5||
on whom the true Guru has put the stamp of tax-waiver from the very beginning (whom the true Guru has blessed with divine knowledge). ||5||
kwa yule ambaye Guru wa kweli aneweka muhuri ya kupuuza ushuru kutoka mwanzoni kabisa (ambaye Guru wa kweli amebariki na maarifa takatifu).

ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਦਿ ਖੇਪ ਚਲਾਵਹੁ ॥
vakhar naam lad khayp chalaavahu.
O’ my friends, collect the wealth of Naam and start meditating on God’s Name,
Ee marafiki wangu, kusanya utajiri wa Naam na uanze kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu,

ਲੈ ਲਾਹਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥੬॥
lai laahaa gurmukh ghar aavhu. ||6||
by following the Guru’s teaching; reap the reward (improve your spiritual life) and realize God in your heart ||6||
kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru; pata zawadi (boresha maisha yako ya kiroho) na ugundue Mungu moyoni mwako.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਿਖ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥
satgur saahu sikh vanjaaray.
The true Guru is like a Banker and his disciples are like traders
Guru na kweli ni kama Mkurugenzi wa benki na wanafunzi wake ni kama wafanya biashara.

ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
poonjee naam laykhaa saach samHaaray. ||7||
The wealth is Naam and meditation on God is the account which the disciples enshirine in their hearts. ||7||
Utajiri ni Naam na kutafakari kuhusu Mungu ni akaunti ambayo wanafunzi wanathamini mioyoni mwao.

ਸੋ ਵਸੈ ਇਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸੇਵ ॥
so vasai it ghar jis gur pooraa sayv.
Only that person resides in this house (heart) whom the perfect Guru blesses with the devotional worship of God.
Mtu huyo pekee anaishi katika nyumba (moyo) hii ambaye Guru kamili anabariki na ibada ya ujitoaji ya Mungu.

ਅਬਿਚਲ ਨਗਰੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ॥੮॥੧॥
abichal nagree naanak dayv. ||8||1||
O’ Nanak, that heart becomes God’s unshakable abode. ||8||1||
Ee Nanak, moyo huo unakuwa makao ya Mungu yasiyotikisika.
