ਜਜਿ ਕਾਜਿ ਪਰਥਾਇ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaj kaaj parthaa-ay suhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
She (devotional worship) looks beauteous on all occasions of worship, marriage, and other worldly functions.||1||Pause||
Yeye (ibada ya ujitoaji) anakaa vizuri katika pindi zote za ibada, ndoa na sherehe nyingine za kidunia. ||1||Sitisha||

ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਸੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥
jichar vasee pitaa kai saath.
As long as this virtuous bride (devotional worship) lives with her father (Guru),
Ili mradi bi harusi huyu mwema (ibada ya ujitoaji) anaishi na baba yake (Guru),

ਤਿਚਰੁ ਕੰਤੁ ਬਹੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਉਦਾਸਿ ॥
tichar kant baho firai udaas.
Till then the husband (human being) wanders around in sadness without the devotional worship.
Hadi wakati huo mume (binadamu) anazurura kote katika huzuni bila ibada ya ujitoaji.

ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਨਾਇਆ ॥
kar sayvaa sat purakh manaa-i-aa.
But when he pleases God by following the Guru’s teachings,
Lakini wakati yeye anapendeza Mungu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru,

ਗੁਰਿ ਆਣੀ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਤਾ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
gur aanee ghar meh taa sarab sukh paa-i-aa. ||2||
the Guru enshrines the devotional worship in his heart and he obtaines peace and comforts. ||2||
guru anathamini ibada ya ujitoaji moyoni mwake naye anapata amani na starehe.

ਬਤੀਹ ਸੁਲਖਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਤਤਿ ਪੂਤ ॥
bateeh sulakh-nee sach santat poot.
She (devotional bride) has all the thirty two qualities of a virtuous woman and her progeny includes children like truth and contentment .
Yeye (bi harusi mwenye ujitoaji) ana sifa zote thelathini na mbili za mwanamke mwema na uzao wake una watoto kama ukweli na kutoshelezwa.

ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸੁਘੜ ਸਰੂਪ ॥
aagi-aakaaree sugharh saroop.
She is obedient, sagacious, and beautiful.
Yeye ni mtiifu, mwenye hekima, na mrembo.

ਇਛ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
ichh pooray man kant su-aamee.
She fulfills all the wishes of her husband-God.
Anatimiza matakwa yote ya Mume-Mungu wake.

ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਦੇਰ ਜੇਠਾਨੀ ॥੩॥
sagal santokhee dayr jaythaanee. ||3||
Her sisters-in-law (hope and desire) are now totally content. ||3||
Shemeji zake (tumaini na hamu) sasa wametoshelezwa kikamilifu.

ਸਭ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰੇਸਟ ॥
sabh parvaarai maahi saraysat.
She is the most noble of all the family. (virtues such as a sweet talk, compassion, humility etc).
Yeye ni sharifu zaidi katika familia yote. (fadhila kama matamshi matamu, ukarimu, unyenyekevu na kadhalika).

ਮਤੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਰ ਜੇਸਟ ॥
matee dayvee dayvar jaysat.
She counsels her younger and elder brothers-in-laws (the other sense organs).
Yeye anashauri ndugu-mkwe wake mdogo na mkubwa zaidi (viungo vingine vya hisi).

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਆਇ ॥
Dhan so garihu jit pargatee aa-ay.
Blessed is that house-hold (heart) in which she (devotional worship) becomes manifest.
Imebarikiwa nyumba hiyo (moyo) ambayo ndani mwake yeye (ibada ya ujitoaji) anadhihirika.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖੇ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥
jan naanak sukhay sukh vihaa-ay. ||4||3||
O’ Nanak, he in whose heart she (devotional worship) manifests, spends his life in peace and bliss.||4||3||
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye moyoni mwake yeye (ibada ya ujitoaji) anadhihirika, anaishi maisha yake kwa amani na raha tele.

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

ਮਤਾ ਕਰਉ ਸੋ ਪਕਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ॥
mataa kara-o so pakan na day-ee.
Whatever I plan, she (evil bride-Maya) does not allow it to come to pass.
Chochote ninachopanga, yeye (bi harusi mwovu Maya) hakiruhusu kitimie.

ਸੀਲ ਸੰਜਮ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਖਲੋਈ ॥
seel sanjam kai nikat khalo-ee.
She blocks the way of goodness and self-discipline.
Yeye anazuia njia ya uzuri na nidhamu binafsi.

ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
vays karay baho roop dikhaavai.
She wears many disguises and assumes many forms.
Yeye anavaa maficho mengi na kuchukua miundo mingi.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਬਸਨਿ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਵਖਿ ਵਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
garihi basan na day-ee vakh vakh bharmaavai. ||1||
She does not allow my mind to dwell in my own self and forces my mind to wander around in different directions. ||1||
Yeye haruhusu akili yangu iishi katika nafsi yake na analazimisha akili yangu kuzurura kote katika mielekeo tofauti.

ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
ghar kee naa-ik ghar vaas na dayvai.
She (Maya) has become the mistress of my home (heart) and she does not allow me to live in peace.
Yeye (Maya) amekuwa bibi wa nyumba (moyo) yangu na haniruhusu niishi kwa amani.

ਜਤਨ ਕਰਉ ਉਰਝਾਇ ਪਰੇਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jatan kara-o urjhaa-ay parayvai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The more I try to get out of its grip, the more it entangles me. ||1||Pause||
Ninavyozidi kujaribu kutoka kwenye mshiko wake, ndivyo inavyozidi kuninasa. ||1||Sitisha||

ਧੁਰ ਕੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਆਈ ਆਮਰਿ ॥
Dhur kee bhayjee aa-ee aamar.
In the beginning, she (the Maya) was sent by God as a helper,
Mwanzoni, yeye (Maya) alitumwa na Mungu kama msaidizi,

ਨਉ ਖੰਡ ਜੀਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰ ॥
na-o khand jeetay sabh thaan thanantar.
but now she has overwhelmed the nine continents, all places and interspaces.
Lakini sasa amelemea mabara tisa, mahali pote na katikati mwa mahali pote.

ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੋਗ ਸੰਨਿਆਸ ॥
tat tirath na chhodai jog sanni-aas.
It has not spared people living at holy banks and pilgrimage places, nor any yogis and ascetics.
Haijaepuka watu wanaoishi kwenye ukingo mtakatifu na pahali pa hija, wala mayogi au wanaojinyima raha.

ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸ ॥੨॥
parh thaakay simrit bayd abhi-aas. ||2||
Pundits who read and practice Simrities and Vedas have given up before it. ||2||
Wabukuzi wanaosoma na kutenda Smritis na Vedas wamesalimu amri mbele yake.

ਜਹ ਬੈਸਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਲੇ ਬੈਸੈ ॥
jah baisa-o tah naalay baisai.
She (Maya) always accompanies me and controls my mind.
Yeye (Maya) daima anaambatana nami na kudhibiti akili yangu.

ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੈ ॥
sagal bhavan meh sabal parvaysai.
She has imposed her power upon the entire world.
Ameweka kwa lazima nguvu yake kwa dunia nzima.

ਹੋਛੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਇਆ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
hochhee saran pa-i-aa rahan na paa-ee.
By seeking shelter from a weak person I cannot save myself from her.
Kwa kutafuta kificho kutoka kwa mtu mnyonge mimi siwezi kujiokoa kutoka kwake.

ਕਹੁ ਮੀਤਾ ਹਉ ਕੈ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
kaho meetaa ha-o kai peh jaa-ee. ||3||
O my friend, tell me: where may I go to seek help? ||3||
Ee rafiki wangu, nimabie: ninaweza kuenda wapi kutafuta usaidizi?

ਸੁਣਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
sun updays satgur peh aa-i-aa.
Upon listening to the advice of the Guru’s follower I have come to the true Guru.
Baada ya kusikiliza ushauri wa mfuasi wa Guru nimekuja kwa Guru wa kweli.

ਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
gur har har naam mohi mantar drirh-aa-i-aa.
The Guru made me resolutely enshrine the mantra of God’s Name in my mind.
Guru amenifanya nithamini mantra ya Jina la Mungu akilini mwangu kwa uimara.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥
nij ghar vasi-aa gun gaa-ay anantaa.
Now, I sing the Praises of the Infinite God and I am at peace as if I dwell in the home of my own inner self.
Sasa, naimba Sifa za Mungu asiye na mwisho na nimo kwa amani kana kwamba naishi katika nyumba ya nafsi yangu mwenyewe.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਅਚਿੰਤਾ ॥੪॥
parabh mili-o naanak bha-ay achintaa. ||4||
O’ Nanak, I have realized God and I am not worried about the Maya. ||4||
Ee Nanak, nimegundua Mungu na sina wasiwasi kuhusu Maya.

ਘਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਨਾਇਕਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
ghar mayraa ih naa-ik hamaaree.
My home (heart) is now my own and Maya is now my mistress.
Nyumba yangu (moyo) sasa ni yangu mwenyewe na Maya sasa ni bibi yangu.

ਇਹ ਆਮਰਿ ਹਮ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਏ ਦਰਬਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥
ih aamar ham gur kee-ay darbaaree.||1|| rahaa-o doojaa.||4||4||
The Guru has made her my servant, and made me a courtier in God’s court. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||
Guru amenifanya niwe mtumishi wake, na amenifanya mtumishi katika mahakama ya Mungu. ||1||Kituo cha pili||4||4||

ਪ੍ਰਥਮੇ ਮਤਾ ਜਿ ਪਤ੍ਰੀ ਚਲਾਵਉ ॥
parathmay mataa je patree chalaava-o.
I was first advised to send a conciliatory letter to the enemy.
Nilishauriwa mara ya kwanza nitume barua ya usikizano kwa adui.

ਦੁਤੀਏ ਮਤਾ ਦੁਇ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਪਹੁਚਾਵਉ ॥
dutee-ay mataa du-ay maanukh pahuchaava-o.
The second suggestion was that I should send two persons to mediate.
Pendekezo la pili lilikuwa kwamba napaswa kutuma watu wawili wapatanishi.

ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਏ ਮਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਉ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
taritee-ay mataa kichh kara-o upaa-i-aa.
The third suggestion was that I must make some preparations to defend.
Pendekezo la tatu lilikuwa kwamba ni lazima nifanye maandalizi ya kujikinga.

ਮੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਹੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
mai sabh kichh chhod parabh tuhee Dhi-aa-i-aa. ||1||
But, O’ God, forsaking everything else, I only meditated on You.||1||
Lakini, Ee Mungu, nikiacha kila kitu kingine, nilitafakari tu kukuhusu Wewe.

ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥
mahaa anand achint sehjaa-i-aa.
Now, I am intuitively blissful and free of any worry.
Sasa, mimi ni mwenye raha tele kisilika na ni huru kutoka wasiwasi wowote.

ਦੁਸਮਨ ਦੂਤ ਮੁਏ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dusman doot mu-ay sukh paa-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The enemies and evildoers have perished and I am at peace. ||1||Pause||
Maadui na watenda uovu wameangamia na sasa nimo kwa amani. ||1||Sitisha||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥
satgur mo ka-o dee-aa updays.
The True Guru blessed me with the teachings,
Guru wa Kweli amenibariki na mafundisho yake,

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦੇਸੁ ॥
jee-o pind sabh har kaa days.
that this soul, body and everything belong to God.
Kwamba roho hii, mwili na kila kitu ni cha Mungu.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੀ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥
jo kichh karee so tayraa taan.
Therefore O’ God, whatever I do is on the assurance of Your support.
Hivyo basi Ee Mungu, chochote ninachofanya ni kwa uhakikisho wa tegemezo yako.

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
tooN mayree ot tooNhai deebaan. ||2||
You are my refuge and You are my support. ||2||
Wewe dniwe kimbilio changu na Wewe ndiwe tegemezo yangu.

ਤੁਧਨੋ ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈਂ ਧਰਿ ॥
tuDhno chhod jaa-ee-ai parabh kaiN Dhar.
O’ God, forsaking You, who else should we go to?
Ee Mungu, tukikuacha Wewe, tunafaa kuendea nani mwengine?

ਆਨ ਨ ਬੀਆ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਮਸਰਿ ॥
aan na bee-aa tayree samsar.
There is no other, comparable to You.
Hakuna mwengine, anayeweza kufananishwa na Wewe.

ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥
tayray sayvak ka-o kis kee kaan.
Who else Yourdevotee cav dependent upon?
Nani mwengine anaweza kutegemewa na mtawa wako?

ਸਾਕਤੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥੩॥
saakat bhoolaa firai baybaan. ||3||
A misled cynic keeps going to different places for support, as if wandering in the wilderness. ||3||
Mbeuzi aliyepotoshwa anaendelea kuenda mahali tofauti kutafuta tegemezo, kana kwamba anazurura nyikani.

ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
tayree vadi-aa-ee kahee na jaa-ay.
O’ God), Your glory cannot be described.
(Ee Mungu), Utukufu wako hauwezi kuelezwa.

ਜਹ ਕਹ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਇ ॥
jah kah raakh laihi gal laa-ay.
Wherever I am, you save me by keeping me in Your protection.
Popote ambapo nipo, wewe unaniokoa kwa kuniweka katika ulinzi wako.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
naanak daas tayree sarnaa-ee.
O’ God, I am always in Your refuge, says Nanak.
Ee Mungu, daima nipo katika kimbilio chako, asema Nanak.

ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੀ ਪੈਜ ਵਜੀ ਵਾਧਾਈ ॥੪॥੫॥
parabh raakhee paij vajee vaaDhaa-ee. ||4||5||
God has preserved my honor and I always remain in high spirits.||4||5||
Mungu amehifadhi heshima yangu na daima nabaki mchangamfu.
