ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee har ras paa-i-aa naam padaarath na-o niDh paa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s grace whosoever has tasted the elixir of God’s Name has attained the wealth of Naam, which is like the world’s nine treasures. |1|Pause|
Kupitia neema ya Guru yeyote ambaye ameonja dawa ya Jina la Mungu amepata utajiri wa Naam, ambao ni kama hazina tisa za dunia. ||1||Sitisha||

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
karam Dharam sach saachaa naa-o.
He who considers meditating on God’s eternal Name as his prime duty,
Yule anayefikiria kutafakari kuhusu Jina la milele la Mungu kama jukumu lake kuu.

ਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
taa kai sad balihaarai jaa-o.
I dedicate myself to him forever.
Najiweka wakfu kwake milele.

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
jo har raatay say jan parvaan.
Those who are imbued with God’s love are accepted in His court,
Wale ambao wamejawa na upendo wa Mungu wanakubalika katika mahakama yake,

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
tin kee sangat param niDhaan. ||2||
the supreme wealth of Naam is attained by keeping their company. ||2||
utajiri mkuu wa Naam unapatwa kwa kuwa katika uandamano wao.

ਹਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
har var jin paa-i-aa Dhan naaree.
Blessed is that soul-bride who has realized her Husband-God within,
Amebarikiwa huyo roho kama bi harusi ambaye amegundua Mume-Mungu wake ndani mwake.

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
har si-o raatee sabad veechaaree.
and reflects on the Guru’s word and remains imbued with God’s love.
Na anatafakari kuhusu neno la Guru na kubaki amejawa na upendo wa Mungu.

ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ॥
aap tarai sangat kul taarai.
Such a blessed bride-soul saves herself and saves all others in her company.
Roho kama bi harusi aliyebarikiwa kama huyo anajiokoa na kuokoa wote wengine katika uandamano wake.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੈ ॥੩॥
satgur sayv tat veechaarai. ||3||
She follows the true Guru’s teachings and reflects on the essence of reality. ||3|
Yeye anafuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli na kutafakari kuhusu kiini cha uhalisia.

ਹਮਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥
hamree jaat pat sach naa-o.
The eternal God’s Name is my social status and honor.
Jina la Mungu wa milele ni hadhi yangu ya kijamii na heshima yangu.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਤ ਭਾਉ ॥
karam Dharam sanjam sat bhaa-o.
The love of the eternal God are my deeds, faith and self-control.
Upendo wa Mungu wa milele ni vitendo, imani na kujizuia kwangu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੇ ਪੂਛ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
naanak bakhsay poochh na ho-ay.
O’ Nanak, no account of deeds is asked from the one whom God blesses
Ee Nanak, hakuna akaunti ya vitendo inauliziwa kutoka kwa yule ambaye Mungu anabariki.

ਦੂਜਾ ਮੇਟੇ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥
doojaa maytay ayko so-ay.||4||14||
He eradicates his sense of duality and beholds God everywhere. ||4||14||
Yeye anatokomeza hisi yake na uwili na kumtazama Mungu kila mahali.

ਇਕਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਆਈ ॥
ik aavahi ik jaaveh aa-ee.
People come into this world, some go away without achieving the purpose of human life and come back again (remain in the cycle of birth and death).
Watu wanakuja duniani humu, wengine wanaondoka bila kutimiza kusudi la maisha ya binadamu na wanarudi tena (wanasalia katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa).

ਇਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
ik har raatay raheh samaa-ee.
However some imbued with God’s love remain absorbed in Him.
Hata hivyo wengine wakijawa na upendo wa Mungu wanabaki wamevama ndani mwake Yeye.

ਇਕਿ ਧਰਨਿ ਗਗਨ ਮਹਿ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
ik Dharan gagan meh tha-ur na paavahi.
There are some who cannot find any peace in the entire universe,
Kuna wengine ambao hawawezi kupata amani yoyote ulimwenguni kote,

ਸੇ ਕਰਮਹੀਣ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
say karamheen har naam na Dhi-aavahi. ||1||
these are those unfortunate ones who do not meditate on God’s Name. ||1||
hao ni wale wasio na bahati nzuri ambao hawatafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur pooray tay gat mit paa-ee.
It is only from the perfect Guru that one obtains the way to higher spiritual state.
Ni kutoka kwa Guru kamili pekee ambapo mtu anapata njia ya kufikia hali ya juu ya kiroho.

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਵਤ ਅਤਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ih sansaar bikh vat at bha-ojal gur sabdee har paar langhaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
This world is like a terrifying ocean of poisonous Maya; God helps us cross over through the Guru’s word. ||1||Pause||
Dunia hii ni kama bahari ya Maya yenye sumu inayotisha; Mungu anatusaidia kuvuka kupitia neno la Guru. ||1||Sitisha||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਲਿ ॥
jinH ka-o aap la-ay parabh mayl.
Those, whom God unites with Himself,
Wale, ambao Mungu anawaunganisha naye Mwenyewe,

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਪੇਲਿ ॥
tin ka-o kaal na saakai payl.
cannot be crushed by the fear of death.
Hawawezi kuvunjwa na uoga wa kifo.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਹਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
gurmukh nirmal raheh pi-aaray.
While living in the world, such Guru’s followers remain immaculate (unaffected by the worldly attachments),
Wakati wanaishi duniani, wafuasi wa Guru kama hao wanabaki safi kabisa (hawaathiriwi na viambatisho vya kidunia),

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਅੰਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਮਲ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
ji-o jal ambh oopar kamal niraaray. ||2||
just as lotuses remains untouched by the dirty water in which they grow. ||2||
kama vile yungiyungi inabaki haiathiriwi na maji machafu ambayo inamea ndani mwake.

ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਹੁ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਹੀਐ ॥
buraa bhalaa kaho kis no kahee-ai.
Tell me: how can we call anyone good or bad?
Niambie: tunawezaje kuita mtu mzuri au mbaya?

ਦੀਸੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
deesai barahm gurmukh sach lahee-ai.
when we see God pervading in all. We can realize the eternal God only through the Guru’s teachings.
Wakati tunaona Mungu akienea kote. Tunaweza kugundua Mungu wa milele kupitia tu mafundisho ya Guru.

ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥਉ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
akath katha-o gurmat veechaar.
Only by reflecting on the Guru’s teachings I can describe some of the virtues of the otherwise incomprehensible God.
Ni kwa kutafakari tu kuhusu mafundisho ya Guru ambapo naweza kueleza fadhila kidogo za Mungu ambaye haweza kufahamika.

ਮਿਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਉ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
mil gur sangat paava-o paar. ||3||
By joining the Guru’s congregation I can cross over the worldly ocean. ||3||
Kwa kujiunga na ushirika wa Guru naweza kuvuka bahari ya kidunia.

ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਭੇਦ ॥
saasat bayd simrit baho bhayd.
The merit of reflecting on the holy books such as Shastras, Vedas and Smritis,
Ustahili wa kutafakari kuhusu vitabu takatifu kama vile Shastras, Vedas na Smritis,

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਰੇਦ ॥
athsath majan har ras rayd.
and the benefit of bathing at the sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage is attained by enshrining the sublime essence of God’s Name in the heart.
Na manufaa ya kuoga katika mahali takatifu sitini na nane za hija inapatwa kwa kuthamini kiini tukufu cha Jina la Mungu moyoni.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
gurmukh nirmal mail na laagai.
By following the Guru’s teachings mind remains immaculate and is not soiled by any evil thoughts.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru akili inabaki safi kabisa na haichafuliwi na fikira zozote mbaya.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੪॥੧੫॥
naanak hirdai naam vaday Dhur bhaagai. ||4||15||
O’ Nanak, the realization of Naam dwelling in the heart comes only by the preordained good fortune. ||4||15||
Ee Nanak, utambuzi wa Naam inayoishi moyoni unakuja tu kwa bahati nzuri iliyoagiziwa mapema.

ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਪਾਇ ਲਗਉ ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
niv niv paa-ay laga-o gur apunay aatam raam nihaari-aa.
I have realized God within me by humbly following the teachings of the Guru.
Nimegundua Mungu ndani mwangu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru kwa unyenyekevu.

ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
karat beechaar hirdai har ravi-aa hirdai daykh beechaari-aa.||1||
By reflecting on the virtues of God, I am meditating on Him with loving devotion and enjoying His presence in my heart. ||1||
Kwa kuwaza kwa makini kuhusu fadhila za Mungu, mimi natafakari kumhusu kwa ujitoaji wa upendo na kufurahia uwepo wake moyoni mwangu.

ਬੋਲਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥
bolhu raam karay nistaaraa.
Meditate on God’s Name; meditation helps a person swim across the worldly ocean of vices.
Tafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu; kutafakari kunasaidia mtu kuogelea akivuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਭੈ ਮਿਟੈ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaad ratan har laabhai mitai agi-aan ho-ay ujee-aaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
God’s precious Naam is realized by the Guru’s grace; ignorance is dispelled and the light of divine knowledge shines in the heart. ||1||Pause||
Naam ya Mungu yenye thamani inagunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru; ujinga unaondolewa na mwanga wa maarifa takatifu unang’aa moyoni. ||1||Sitisha||

ਰਵਨੀ ਰਵੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਨਹੀ ਤੂਟਹਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
ravnee ravai banDhan nahee tooteh vich ha-umai bharam na jaa-ee.
By uttering God’s Name without loving devotion, worldly bonds are not broken and egotism and doubt do not depart from within.
Kwa kutamka Jina la Mungu bila ujitoaji wa upendo, vifungo vya kidunia havivunjwi na ubinafsi na shaka haiondoki kutoka ndani mwa mtu.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਤੂਟੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥
satgur milai ta ha-umai tootai taa ko laykhai paa-ee. ||2||
It is only when one follows the true Guru’s teachings, his ego is shattered and his worship is accepted in God’s court. ||2||
Ni wakati tu ambapo mtu anafuata mafundisho ya Guru wa kweli, ubinafsi wake unavunjwa na ibada yake inakubalika katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥
har har naam bhagat pari-a pareetam sukh saagar ur Dhaaray.
One who meditates on the dear God’s Name and enshrines God, the ocean of peace in his heart,
Yule anayetafakari kuhusu Jina la dhati la Mungu na kumthamini Mungu, bahari ya amani moyoni mwake,

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
bhagat vachal jagjeevan daataa mat gurmat har nistaaray. ||3||
God, the lover of devotional worship, the Life of the World and the bestower of sublime intelect, emancipates such a person through the Guru’s teachings. ||3||
Mungu, anayependa ibada ya ujitoaji, Uhai wa Dunia na mtawaza wa uwekevu mtukufu, anakomboa mtu kama huyo kupitia mafundisho ya Guru.

ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਜੂਝਿ ਮਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
man si-o joojh marai parabh paa-ay mansaa maneh samaa-ay.
He, who controls his ego by fighting against his own stubborn mind and absorbs the desires of the mind within the mind itself, realizes God
Yule, ambaye anadhibiti ubinafsi wake kwa kukabiliana na akili yake yenye kiburi na kuvamisha hamu za akili ndani mwa akili yenyewe, anamgundua Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥੪॥੧੬॥
naanak kirpaa karay jagjeevan sahj bhaa-ay liv laa-ay. ||4||16||
O’ Nanak, he on whom the life of this world becomes gracious, intuitively remains imbued in God’s love. ||4||16||
Ee Nanak, kwa yule ambaye uhai wa dunia hii anaonyesha neema, anabaki amejawa na upendo wa Mungu kisilika.

ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਕਹਹਿ ਸੁਣਾਵਹਿ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ਸਮਝਿ ਰਹੇ ॥
kis ka-o kaheh sunaaveh kis ka-o kis samjhaavahi samajh rahay.
Those who have obtained some understanding about God, don’t show off their knowledge or spirituality by talking about themselves to others.
Wale ambao wamepata uelewa fulani kuhusu Mungu, hawaonyeshi maarifa au uroho wake kwa kujigamba kwa wengine.

ਕਿਸੈ ਪੜਾਵਹਿ ਪੜਿ ਗੁਣਿ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥
kisai parhaaveh parh gun boojhay satgur sabad santokh rahay. ||1||
They don’t try to teach others what they have learnt about the virtues of God. Becoming attuned to the Guru’s word, they keep living a contented life.||1||
Hawajaribu kufunza wengine kile ambacho wamejifunza kuhusu fadhila za Mungu. Wakimakinikia neno la Guru, wanaendelea kuishi maisha yaliyotoshelezwa.
