ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤੂਤਿ ਬੇਲਿ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਫਲੁ ਹੂਆ ॥
karam kartoot bayl bisthaaree raam naam fal hoo-aa.
The righteous conduct of a person is like a spread out vine which bears the fruit of God’s Name.
Tabia adilifu ya mtu ni kama mzabibu ulioenezwa unaozaa tunda la Jina la Mungu.

ਤਿਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਕੀਆ ॥੧॥
tis roop na raykh anaahad vaajai sabad niranjan kee-aa. ||1||
But this fruit has no shape or form; the divine word keeps playing on its own which has been revealed by the immaculate God Himself. ||1||
Lakini tunda hili halina umbo au muundo; neno takatifu linaendelea kucheza lenyewe ambalo limedhihirishwana Mungu safi Mwenyewe.

ਕਰੇ ਵਖਿਆਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ॥
karay vakhi-aan jaanai jay ko-ee.
If one realizes God and keeps singing His praises,
Iwapo mtu agundue Mungu na kuendelea kuimba sifa zake,

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
amrit peevai so-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
then he alone drinks in the ambrosial nectar of Naam. ||1||Pause||
basi yeye peke yake anakunywa nekta ya ambrosia ya Naam. ||1||Sitisha||

ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਪੀਆ ਸੇ ਮਸਤ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤੂਟੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਫਾਹੇ ॥
jinH pee-aa say masat bha-ay hai tootay banDhan faahay.
Those who drink it are captivated; their bonds and shackles of Maya are cut off.
Wale wanaoikunywa wanavutiwa; vifungo vyao na pingu za Maya zinavunjwa.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਛੋਡੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਲਾਹੇ ॥੨॥
jotee jot samaanee bheetar taa chhoday maa-i-aa kay laahay. ||2||
Their soul merges in the prime Soul (God) and they forsake all thoughts of Maya.||2||
Roho zao zinaungana na Roho kuu (Mungu) na wanaacha fikira zote za Maya.

ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
sarab jot roop tayraa daykhi-aa sagal bhavan tayree maa-i-aa.
O’ God, he beholds You in all the creatures and he sees the effect of Maya everywhere.
Ee Mungu, yeye anakutazama Wewe katika viumbe vyote naye anaona athari ya Maya kila mahali.

ਰਾਰੈ ਰੂਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਬੈਠਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਛਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
raarai roop niraalam baithaa nadar karay vich chhaa-i-aa. ||3||
He sees that God remains aloof from the tumult of the world and still bestows His grace upon those who are engrossed in Maya. ||3|
Yeye anaona kwamba Mungu anabaki ametengwa kutoka vurugu ya dunia na bado anatawaza neema yake kwa wale ambao wamevama katika Maya.

ਬੀਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ਜੋਗੀ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
beenaa sabad vajaavai jogee darsan roop apaaraa.
That person is a true yogi who has tasted the nectar of Naam and keeps playing the flute of God’s praises, while visualizing His limitless form.
Mtu huyo ni yogi wa kweli ambaye ameonja nekta ya Naam na anaendelea kucheza filimbi ya sifa za Mungu, wakati anapata taswira ya muundo wake usio na kikomo.

ਸਬਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਦਿ ਸੋ ਸਹੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੮॥
sabad anaahad so saho raataa naanak kahai vichaaraa. ||4||8||
Nanak Says, because that person is always attuned to the divine word, he remains imbued with the love of Master-God. ||4||8||
Nanak anasema, kwa sababu mtu huyo daima amemakinikia neno takatifu, anabaki amejawa na upendo wa Bwana-Mungu.

ਮੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਲਾ ਕੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰ ॥
mai gun galaa kay sir bhaar.
My only virtues are that I carry the load of mere words upon my head.
Fadhila zangu za pekee ni kwamba nabeba mzigo wa maneno matupu kichwani pangu.

ਗਲੀ ਗਲਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ॥
galee galaa sirjanhaar.
The real words are the words of praises of the Creator.
Maneno halisi ni yale maneno ya sifa za Muumba.

ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਹਸਣਾ ਬਾਦਿ ॥
khaanaa peenaa hasnaa baad.
O’ God, all the eating, drinking and laughing is useless,
Ee Mungu, kula, kunywa na kucheka kwote ni bure,

ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਯਾਦਿ ॥੧॥
jab lag ridai na aavahi yaad. ||1||
unless You come into my heart ||1||
isipokuwa Wewe uje moyoni mwangu

ਤਉ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਕੇਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
ta-o parvaah kayhee ki-aa keejai.
There is no need to care about anything else,
Hakuna haja ya kujali kuhusu chochote kingine,

ਜਨਮਿ ਜਨਮਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਲੀਜੀ ਲੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam janam kichh leejee leejai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
if throughout our life we only amass the wealth worth amassing (Naam). ||1||Pause||
iwapo maishani mwetu yote tunakusanya tu utajiri unaostahili kukusanywa (Naam). ||1||Sitisha||

ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਮਤਾਗਲੁ ਮਤਾ ॥
man kee mat mataagal mataa.
The intellect of our mind is like that of an intoxicated elephant.
Uwekevu wa akili yrtu ni kama ule wa tembo aliyelewa.

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਖਤੋ ਖਤਾ ॥
jo kichh bolee-ai sabh khato khataa.
Whatever we speak is one mistake after another.
Chochote tunachozungumza ni kosa moja baada ya lingine.

ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਲੈ ਕੀਚੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
ki-aa muhu lai keechai ardaas.
O’ God, what face should we put on to offer our prayer,
Ee Mungu, tunafaa kuweka sura gani ili tuwasilishe ombi letu,

ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਾਖੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
paap punn du-ay saakhee paas. ||2||
when our virtues and vices are close at hand as witnesses. ||2||
wakati fadhila na maovu yetu yamo karibu mno kama mashahidi.

ਜੈਸਾ ਤੂੰ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੈਸਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
jaisaa tooN karahi taisaa ko ho-ay.
O’ God, as You make a person, so does that person become.
Ee Mungu, unavyofanya mtu, ndivyo mtu huyo anavyokuwa.

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
tujh bin doojaa naahee ko-ay.
Without You there is none other to impart us intellect.
Bila Wewe hakuna mwengine wa kutupa uwekevu.

ਜੇਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੇਹੀ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jayhee tooN mat deh tayhee ko paavai.
One receives only that intellect which You bestow.
Mtu anapokea tu uwekevu huo ambao unatawaza.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
tuDh aapay bhaavai tivai chalaavai. ||3||
You are running the show of this world as it pleases You ||3||
Unaendesha onyesho la dunia hii inavyokupendeza Wewe.

ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ ਪਰੀਆ ਪਰਵਾਰ ॥
raag ratan paree-aa parvaar.
The musical measures, their consorts and their families are precious jewels,
Vipimo vya muziki, waandamizi wao na familia zao ni kama vito vyenye thamani,

ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰ ॥
tis vich upjai amrit saar.
only if from them arises the sublime ambrosial nectar of Naam.
Iwapo tu kutoka kwao kunatokea nekta tukufu ya ambrosia ya Naam.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਮਾਲੁ ॥ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਏਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੯॥
naanak kartay kaa ih Dhan maal. jay ko boojhai ayhu beechaar. ||4||9||
O’ Nanak, if anyone understands this reality then he would realize that this divine bliss is the only wealth, which leads one to the Creator.||4||9||
Ee Nanak, iwapo yeyote anaelewa uhalisia huu basi angegundua kwamba raha tele hii takatifu ni utajiri wa pekee, unaoongoza mtu kwa Muumba.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਤਾ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਖੀਆ ਕਾਜੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
kar kirpaa apnai ghar aa-i-aa taa mil sakhee-aa kaaj rachaa-i-aa.
When showing kindness God came to my heart then my friends (sensory organs) met together to celebrate the occasion of my union with Him.
Wakati akionyesha wema Mungu alikuja moyoni mwangu kisha marafiki wangu (viungo vya hisi) walikutana kusheherekea tukio la muungano wangu na Yeye.

ਖੇਲੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਹੁ ਵੀਆਹਣ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
khayl daykh man anad bha-i-aa saho vee-aahan aa-i-aa. ||1||
Beholding this play, my mind became blissful; my Husband-God has come to marry me (dwell in my heart). ||1||
Kwa kutazama mchezo huu, akili yangu ilikuwa na raha tele; Mume-Mungu wangu amekuja kunioa (kuishi moyoni mwangu).

ਗਾਵਹੁ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
gaavhu gaavhu kaamnee bibayk beechaar.
O’ my friends (my beloved faculties), please keep singing again and again the song of wisdom and reflection.
Ee marafiki wangu (vitivo vyangu vya dhati), tafadhali endeleeni kuimba tena na tena wimbo wa hekima na utafakari.

ਹਮਰੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hamrai ghar aa-i-aa jagjeevan bhataar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My Husband-God, the Life of the world, has come into my heart. ||1||Pause||
Mume-Mungu wangu, Uhai wa dunia, amekuja ndani mwa moyo wangu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹਮਰਾ ਵੀਆਹੁ ਜਿ ਹੋਆ ਜਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
guroo du-aarai hamraa vee-aahu je ho-aa jaaN saho mili-aa taaN jaani-aa.
When through the Guru I met and wedded my Husband-God, then I realized,
Wakati kupitia kwa Guru nilikutana na kuoa Mume-Mungu wangu, wakati huo niligundua

ਤਿਹੁ ਲੋਕਾ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਹੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੨॥
tihu lokaa meh sabad ravi-aa hai aap ga-i-aa man maani-aa. ||2||
that God Himself is pervading in all the three worlds. However my mind was convinced only when my sense of self-conceit went away. ||2||
kwamba Mungu Mwenyewe anaenea katika dunia zote tatu. Hata hivyo akili yangu ilishawishiwa tu wakati hisi yangu ya majivuno binafsi ilitokomezwa.

ਆਪਣਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਹੋਰਨਿ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
aapnaa kaaraj aap savaaray horan kaaraj na ho-ee.
God accomplishes His own affairs; His affairs cannot be arranged by anyone else.
Mungu anatimiza shughuli zake mwenyewe; Shughuli zake haziwezi kupangwa na yeyote mwengine.

ਜਿਤੁ ਕਾਰਜਿ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਦਇਆ ਧਰਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥
jit kaaraj sat santokh da-i-aa Dharam hai gurmukh boojhai ko-ee. ||3||
Only a rare Guru’s follower understands that this union with God requires the virtues like contentment, mercy and faith. ||3||
Mfuasi nadra pekee wa Guru anaelewa kwamba muungano huu na Mungu unahitaji fadhila kama kutoshelezwa, huruma na imani.

ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
bhanat naanak sabhnaa kaa pir ayko so-ay.
Nanak says that the same one God is the Husband of all soul-brides.
Nanak anasema kwamba Mungu huyo mmoja ndiye Mume wa roho kama bi harusi zote.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
jis no nadar karay saa sohagan ho-ay. ||4||10||
However, only that soul-bride becomes fortunate upon whom God showers His grace. ||4||10||
Hata hivyo, roho kama bi harusi huyo pekee anakuwa mwenye bahati mno ambaye Mungu ananyunyuzia neema yake.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਬਨੁ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
garihu ban samsar sahj subhaa-ay.
Home and forest are the same for one who dwells in the state of intuitive peace and poise.
Nyumbani na nyikani ni sawa kwa yule anayeishi katika hali ua amani na utulivu wa hisia na silika.

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਤੁ ਭਈ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਠਾਇ ॥
durmat gat bha-ee keerat thaa-ay.
His evil-mindedness departs and the Praises of God take its place.
Nia yake mbaya inaondoka na Sifa za Mungu zinachukua nafasi yake.

ਸਚ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਾਚਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਂਉ ॥
sach pa-orhee saacha-o mukh naaN-o.
He meditates on the eternal God, which is a step towards realizing God.
Yeye anatafakari kuhusu Mungu wa milele, ambayo ni hatua iya kumgundua Mungu.
