ਝਝਾ ਉਰਝਿ ਸੁਰਝਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
jhajhaa urajh surajh nahee jaanaa.
Jhajha: The person, who only knows how to entangle in useless controversies but has not yet learnt to get out of these,
Jhajha: Mtu, ambaye anajua tu kujinasa katika mizozano bure lakini bado hajajifunza jinsi ya kutoka kwa hiyo,

ਰਹਿਓ ਝਝਕਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
rahi-o jhajhak naahee parvaanaa.
wastes all his life in doubts and controversies. Such a person is not accepted in God’s court.
Anaharibu maisha yake yote katika shaka na mizozano. Mtu kama huyo hakubaliki katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਕਤ ਝਖਿ ਝਖਿ ਅਉਰਨ ਸਮਝਾਵਾ ॥
kat jhakh jhakh a-uran samjhaavaa.
What good is to indulge in arguments trying to convince others?
Kuna manufaa gani kwa kujihusisha katika mabishano kujaribu kushawishi wengine?

ਝਗਰੁ ਕੀਏ ਝਗਰਉ ਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੫॥
jhagar kee-ay jhagara-o hee paavaa. ||15||
Stirring up arguments, we involve ourselves in more conflicts. ||15||
Kwa kuzua mabishano, tunajihusisha katika migogoro zaidi.

ਞੰਞਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਜੁ ਘਟ ਰਹਿਓ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਹਾ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
njanjaa nikat jo ghat rahi-o door kahaa taj jaa-ay.
Janjan: God dwells near you, deep within your heart, why do you leave Him and go far away?
Janjan: Mungu anaishi karibu na wewe, ndani kwa kina kwa moyo wako, kwa nini unamuacha Yeye na kuenda mbali?

ਜਾ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਜਗੁ ਢੂਢਿਅਉ ਨੇਰਉ ਪਾਇਅਉ ਤਾਹਿ ॥੧੬॥
jaa kaaran jag dhoodhi-a-o nayra-o paa-i-a-o taahi.||16||
For whom I searched the entire world, Him I have found within myself. ||16||
kwa yule ambaye nilimtafuta katika dunia nzima, Yeye nimempata ndani mwangu.

ਟਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਘਾਟ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
tataa bikat ghaat ghat maahee.
Tatta: The path to the shore leading to divine abode is very treacherous but it is located within the heart itself.
Tatta: njia inayoelekea kwa ufuo inayoongoza kwenye makao takatifu ni yenye hatari nyingi lakini inapatikana ndani mwa moyo wenyewe.

ਖੋਲਿ ਕਪਾਟ ਮਹਲਿ ਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
khol kapaat mahal ke na jaahee.
Opening the doors of your heart, why don’t you go to God’s presence?
Kwa kufungua milango ya moyo wako, kwa nini usiende kwa uwepo wa Mungu?

ਦੇਖਿ ਅਟਲ ਟਲਿ ਕਤਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਵਾ ॥
daykh atal tal kateh na jaavaa.rahai lapat ghat parcha-o paavaa. ||17||
One who has realized the eternal God, doesn’t fall in doubts and go elsewhere,
Yule ambaye amegundua Mungu wa milele, haanguki kwa shaka na kuenda kwingine,

ਰਹੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਘਟ ਪਰਚਉ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੧੭॥
rahai lapat ghat parcha-o paavaa. ||17||
with love for God in his heart he remains attuned to Him.||17||
akiwa na upendo wa Mungu moyoni mwake anabaki amemakinikia Mungu.

ਠਠਾ ਇਹੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਠਗ ਨੀਰਾ ॥
thathaa ihai door thag neeraa.
Thatha: This Maya is a mirage like the far away appearance of false water in a desert.
Thatha: Maya hii ni mazigazi kama mwono wa mbali wa maji yasiyo ya kweli katika jangwa.

ਨੀਠਿ ਨੀਠਿ ਮਨੁ ਕੀਆ ਧੀਰਾ ॥
neeth neeth man kee-aa Dheeraa.
Reflecting carefully on the reality of Maya I have developed contentment.
Kwa kutafakari kwa makini kuhusu uhalisia wa Maya nimesitawisha utoshelezaji.

ਜਿਨਿ ਠਗਿ ਠਗਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਖਾਵਾ ॥
jin thag thagi-aa sagal jag khaavaa.
That cheater (Maya) has cheated and devoured the entire world,
Mlaghai huyo (Maya) amelaghai na kuathiri dunia nzima,

ਸੋ ਠਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਮਨੁ ਆਵਾ ॥੧੮॥
so thag thagi-aa tha-ur man aavaa. ||18||
I have cheated that cheater and my mind is now at peace. ||18||
Nimedanganya mdanganyifu huyo na akili yangu sasa ipo katika amani.

ਡਡਾ ਡਰ ਉਪਜੇ ਡਰੁ ਜਾਈ ॥
dadaa dar upjay dar jaa-ee.
Dadda: When the revered fear of God wells up in one’s mind then the worldly fears departs.
Dadda: Wakati uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu inatokea akilini mwa mtu basi hofuya kidunia inaondoka.

ਤਾ ਡਰ ਮਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
taa dar meh dar rahi-aa samaa-ee.
And the worldly fear gets absorbed in the revered fear of God.
Na hofu ya kidunia inavama katika uoga kwa heshima ya Mungu.

ਜਉ ਡਰ ਡਰੈ ਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਡਰੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
ja-o dar darai ta fir dar laagai.
But if one does not have the revered fear of God then other worldly fears cling to him.
Lakini iwapo mtu hana woga kwa heshima ya Mungu basi hofu nyingine ya kidunia inamshikilia yeye.

ਨਿਡਰ ਹੂਆ ਡਰੁ ਉਰ ਹੋਇ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧੯॥
nidar hoo-aa dar ur ho-ay bhaagai. ||19||
When one enshrines God’s fear in the heart and becomes fearless then the worldly fears of his mind run away. ||19||
Wakati mtu anathamini uoga wa Mungu moyoni na kuwa bila hofu basi hofu za kidunia za akili yake zinatokomezwa.

ਢਢਾ ਢਿਗ ਢੂਢਹਿ ਕਤ ਆਨਾ ॥
dhadhaa dhig dhoodheh kat aanaa.
Dhadha: God is near you, why are you searching Him anywhere else?
Dhadha: Mungu yu karibu nawe, kwa nini unamtafuta Yeye mahali pengine?

ਢੂਢਤ ਹੀ ਢਹਿ ਗਏ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥
dhoodhat hee dheh ga-ay paraanaa.
Searching for Him like this the breath of life runs out.
Kwa kumtafuta Yeye hivo pumzi ya uhai inakwisha.

ਚੜਿ ਸੁਮੇਰਿ ਢੂਢਿ ਜਬ ਆਵਾ ॥
charh sumayr dhoodh jab aavaa.
When one returns to himself after scaling the Sumer mountain and failing to find God there,
Wakati mtu anajirusia baada ya kupanda mlima wa Sumer na kukosa kupata Mungu huko,

ਜਿਹ ਗੜੁ ਗੜਿਓ ਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੦॥
jih garh garhi-o so garh meh paavaa. ||20||
one finds God within the body, the fort which God Himself made. ||20||
mtu anapata Mungu ndani mwa mwili, ngome ambayo Mungu mwenyewe alitengeneza.

ਣਾਣਾ ਰਣਿ ਰੂਤਉ ਨਰ ਨੇਹੀ ਕਰੈ ॥
naanaa ran roota-o nar nayhee karai.
Nanna: The one who is engaged in war with one’s own vices and acquires the determination to control his vices,
Nanna: Yule ambaye amejihusisha katika vita na maovu yake mwenyewe na kupata azimio la kudhibiti maovu yake,

ਨਾ ਨਿਵੈ ਨਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਸੰਚਰੈ ॥
naa nivai naa fun sanchrai.
he neither yields nor compromises with these evil impulses.
Yeye hasalimu amri wala kuridhiana na misukumo hii mibaya.

ਧੰਨਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਤਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਗਣੈ ॥
Dhan janam taahee ko ganai.
Such a person’s advent in this world is considered blessed,
Ujio wa mtu kama huyo duniani humu unafikiriwa kuwa umebarikiwa,

ਮਾਰੈ ਏਕਹਿ ਤਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੈ ॥੨੧॥
maarai aykeh taj jaa-ay ghanai. ||21||
because he conquers his mind and renounces all that evils. ||21||
kwa sababu anatawala akili yake na kukana maovu hayo yote.

ਤਤਾ ਅਤਰ ਤਰਿਓ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ॥
tataa atar tari-o nah jaa-ee.
Tatta: This world is like an ocean that one cannot swim across,
Tatta: Dunia hii ni kama bahari ambayo hakuna anayeweza kuogelea ili kuvuka,

ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
tan taribhavan meh rahi-o samaa-ee.
because one’s body remains absorbed in the pleasures of the sensory organs.
Kwa sababu mwili wa mtu unabaki umevama katika raha za viungo vya hisi.

ਜਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵਾ ॥
ja-o taribhavan tan maahi samaavaa.
But when the allurements of the sensory organs are controlled by the mind,
Lakini wakati vishawishi vya viungo vya hisi vinadhibitiwa na akili,

ਤਉ ਤਤਹਿ ਤਤ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੨॥
ta-o tateh tat mili-aa sach paavaa. ||22||
then the human soul merges in the supreme Soul and one realizes God. ||22||
basi roho ya binadamu inaungana na Roho kuu na mtu anamgundua Mungu.

ਥਥਾ ਅਥਾਹ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
thathaa athaah thaah nahee paavaa.
Thatha: Human mind can’t fathom the unfathomable God,
Thatha: akili ya binadamu haiwezi kufahamu Mungu asiyeweza kufahamika,

ਓਹੁ ਅਥਾਹ ਇਹੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਵਾ ॥
oh athaah ih thir na rahaavaa.
because that God is fathomless and the human mind doesn’t remain steady in one place.
Kwa sababu Mungu huyo yupo bila ufahamu na akili ya binadamu haibaki imara katika mahali moja.

ਥੋੜੈ ਥਲਿ ਥਾਨਕ ਆਰੰਭੈ ॥
thorhai thal thaanak aarambhai.
During the short span of life one gets involved in so many ambitions; it is like one starts to build many cities on a little bit of allotted land.
Katika muda mfupi wa maisha mtu anajihusisha katika matarajio mengi sana; ni kana kwamba mtu anaanza kujenga majiji mengi katika kipande kidogo cha ardhi.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹੀ ਥਾਭਹ ਮੰਦਿਰੁ ਥੰਭੈ ॥੨੩॥
bin hee thaabhah mandir thambhai. ||23||
Without the capital of Naam all his worldly plans are of no use; it is like building a mansion without any pillars. ||23||
Bila rasilimali ya Naam mipango yake yote ya kidunia haina manufaa; ni kama kujenga jumba bila nguzo zozote.

ਦਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਜੁ ਬਿਨਸਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
dadaa daykh jo binsanhaaraa.
Dadda: whatever is visible with the eyes is perishable,
Dadda: chochote kinachoonekana kwa macho kinaweza kuharibika.

ਜਸ ਅਦੇਖਿ ਤਸ ਰਾਖਿ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
jas adaykh tas raakh bichaaraa.
therefore, always remember Him whom you cannot see with these eyes.
Hivyo basi, daima mkumbuke Yeye ambaye huwezi kumuona kwa macho haya.

ਦਸਵੈ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਕੁੰਚੀ ਜਬ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
dasvai du-aar kunchee jab deejai.
When one applies the key of the Guru’s word to the tenth door (mind),
Wakati mtu anaweka funguo ya neno la Guru kwa mlango wa kumi (akili),

ਤਉ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੋ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੨੪॥
ta-o da-i-aal ko darsan keejai. ||24||
only then one can realize that merciful God. ||24||
wakati huo pekee ndipo mtu anaweza kumgundua Mungu huyo mwenye huruma.

ਧਧਾ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧਹ ਮੰਝਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥
DhaDhaa arDhahi uraDh nibayraa. arDhahi urDhah manjh basayraa.
Dhadha: When human soul attains supreme status and unites with God, the cycle of birth and death of that soul ends.
Dhadha: Wakati roho ya binadamu inafikia hadhi kuu na kuungana na Mungu, mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa wa roho hiyo unakwisha.

ਅਰਧਹ ਛਾਡਿ ਉਰਧ ਜਉ ਆਵਾ ॥
arDhah chhaad uraDh ja-o aavaa.
When leaving the lower spiritual state of love for Maya, human mind attains the supreme spritual state by meditation on Naam,
Wakati ikiacha hali ya chini ya kiroho ya upendo wa Maya, akili ya binadamu inafikia hali kuu ya kiroho ya kutafakari kuhusu Naam,

ਤਉ ਅਰਧਹਿ ਉਰਧ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਾ ॥੨੫॥
ta-o arDhahi uraDh mili-aa sukh paavaa. ||25||
then one unites with God and attains eternal peace. ||25||
kisha mtu anaungana na Mungu na kupata amani ya milele.

ਨੰਨਾ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਾਈ ॥
nannaa nis din nirkhat jaa-ee.
Nanna: One whose days and nights pass waiting for the sight of God,
Nanna: yule ambaye mchana na usiku wake unapita akingoja mwono wa Mungu,

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਰਤਵਾਈ ॥
nirkhat nain rahay ratvaa-ee.
waiting for His blessed vision that person’s eyes become glowing
akingojea mwono wake uliobarikiwa macho ya mtu huyo yanaanza kung’aa

ਨਿਰਖਤ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਜਬ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
nirkhat nirkhat jab jaa-ay paavaa.
After waiting so long for Him when one does see the sight of one’s Beloved,
Baada ya kumngoja Yeye kwa muda mrefu wakati mtu anaona mwono wa Mpendwa wake,

ਤਬ ਲੇ ਨਿਰਖਹਿ ਨਿਰਖ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥੨੬॥
tab lay nirkhahi nirakh milaavaa. ||26||
then the one who was looking merges into the One who was looked for (God unites that lover with Himself). ||26||
basi yule aliyekuwa akitazama anaungana na yule Mmoja ambaye alitafutwa (Mungu anaunganisha huyo anayempenda naye mwenyewe).

ਪਪਾ ਅਪਰ ਪਾਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
papaa apar paar nahee paavaa.
Pappa: God is infinite, no one has found His limits.
Pappa: Mungu hana mwisho, hakuna mtu amewahi kupata vikomo vyake.

ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਪਰਚਉ ਲਾਵਾ ॥
param jot si-o parcha-o laavaa.
One who is imbued with the love of the supreme Soul,
Yule ambaye amejawa na upendo wa Roho kuu,

ਪਾਂਚਉ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹ ਕਰਈ ॥
paaNcha-o indree nigreh kar-ee.
controls the five sensory organs,
anadhibiti viungo vitano vya hisi,

ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਨਿਰਵਰਈ ॥੨੭॥
paap punn do-oo nirvar-ee. ||27||
and rises above both sin and virtue. ||27||
na anazidi dhambi na fadhila.

ਫਫਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਫੂਲਹ ਫਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
fafaa bin foolah fal ho-ee.
Faffa: If one shuns self-conceit and meditates, then one gains the fruit of Naam.
Faffa: iwapo mtu akane majivuno binafsi na kutafakari, basi mtu anapata tunda la Naam.

ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਕੋਈ ॥
taa fal fank lakhai ja-o ko-ee.
If someone understands the worth of even a small slice of this fruit of Naam,
Iwapo mtu anaelewa thamani ya hata kipande kidogo cha tunda hili la Naam,

ਦੂਣਿ ਨ ਪਰਈ ਫੰਕ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥
doon na par-ee fank bichaarai.
then he doesn’t fall into the deep valleys (of births and deaths).
Basi yeye haanguki kwenye mabonde yenye kina (ya kuzaliwa na kufa).

ਤਾ ਫਲ ਫੰਕ ਸਭੈ ਤਨ ਫਾਰੈ ॥੨੮॥
taa fal fank sabhai tan faarai. ||28||
Bwcause a slice of that fruit (Naam) completely destroys all the ego in one’s mind. ||28||
Kwa sababu kipande cha tunda hilo (Naam) kinaangamiza kikamilifu ubinafsi wote akilini mwa mtu.

ਬਬਾ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ॥
babaa bindeh bind milaavaa.
Babba: When one drop of water blends with another drop,
Babba: Wakati tone moja la maji linachanganyikana na tone lingine,

ਬਿੰਦਹਿ ਬਿੰਦਿ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰਨ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
bindeh bind na bichhuran paavaa.
then these drops cannot be separated again.(similarly a human soul merged with supreme Soul doesn’t get separated from it).
Basi matone haya hayawezi kutenganishwa tena. (Vivyo hivyo roho ya binadamu iliyoungana na Roho kuu haitenganishwi kutoka kwake).

ਬੰਦਉ ਹੋਇ ਬੰਦਗੀ ਗਹੈ ॥
banda-o ho-ay bandagee gahai.
The person who, becoming God’s servant, lovingly worships Him.
Mtu ambaye, kwa kuwa mtumishi wa Mungu, anamuabudu Yeye kwa upendo.
