ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਲੋਭਾਣੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥
amrit chhod bikhi-aa lobhaanay sayvaa karahi vidaanee.
Forsaking the spiritual life giving nectar of Naam, conceited people cling to the poison of worldly riches and power and serve others instead of God
Kwa kuacha nekta ya Naam ya kiroho inayopeana uhai, watu wenye majivuno wanakwamia utajiri na mamlaka ya kidunia na kutumikia wengine badala ya Mungu.

ਆਪਣਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਵਹਿ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥
aapnaa Dharam gavaaveh boojheh naahee an-din dukh vihaanee.
In this way, they forget the purpose of human life. They do not realize (their folly) and their entire life passes in misery.
Kwa njia hii, wanasahau kusudi la maisha ya kibinadamu. Hawagundui (upumbavu wao) na maisha yao mzima yanapita katika taabu.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਨ ਚੇਤਹੀ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
manmukh anDh na chaythee doob mu-ay bin paanee. ||1||
Thus blinded with greed, the self-conceited people do not remember God and die a spiritual death, as if they have drowned without water. ||1||
Kisha wakiwafanywa vipofu na tamaa, watu wenye majivuno ya kibinafsi hawakumbuki Mungu na wanakufa kifo ya kiroho, kama kwamba wamezama bila kuwepo kwa maji.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਭਜਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
man ray sadaa bhajahu har sarnaa-ee.
O’ my mind, always meditate on Naam and seek God’s refuge.
Ee akili yangu, daima tafakari kuhusu Naam na utafute kimbilio cha Mungu.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur kaa sabad antar vasai taa har visar na jaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
So that, Guru’s Word gets enshrined in your mind and as a result of that, you will never forget God.
Ndiposa, neno la Guru lipate kuwekwa akilini mwako na matokeo yake, hutawahi kumsahau Mungu.

ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਪੁਤਲਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਸਟੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
ih sareer maa-i-aa kaa putlaa vich ha-umai dustee paa-ee.
This body is the puppet of Maya (worldly riches and power). The evil of egotism is within it.
Mwili huu ni kibaraka cha Maya (utajiri na mamlaka ya kidunia). Uovu wa ubinafsi umo ndani yake.

ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
aavan jaanaa jaman marnaa manmukh pat gavaa-ee.
(Because of the evil of egotism) these self-conceited persons get stuck in the cycle of birth and death and they lose their honor.
(Kwa sababu ya uovu wa ubinafsi) hawa watu wenye majivuno ya kubinafsi wanakwama katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa na wanapoteza heshima yao.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
satgur sayv sadaa sukh paa-i-aa jotee jot milaa-ee. ||2||
However, by following the Guru’s teaching, one obtains eternal peace and their light (soul) merges with the Supreme light.
Hata hivyo, kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, mtu anapokea amani ya milele na mwanga wao (roho) unaungana na Mwanga Mkuu.

ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤਿ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਜੋ ਇਛੇ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
satgur kee sayvaa at sukhaalee jo ichhay so fal paa-ay.
Serving the True Guru by following his teachingsbrings a deep and profound peace, and one’s desires are fulfilled.
Kutumikia Guru wa kweli kwa kufuata mafundisho yake kunaleta amani mkubwa na yenye kina, na hamuj za mtu zinatimizwa.

ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਤਪੁ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਰੀਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
jat sat tap pavit sareeraa har har man vasaa-ay.
Service of the Guru brings the merits of abstinence, truthfulness and self-discipline.The body is purified; and God comes to dwell within the mind.
Huduma kwa Guru unaleta sifa za kujizuia, ukweli na nidhamu ya kibinafsi.

ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
sadaa anand rahai din raatee mil pareetam sukh paa-ay. ||3||
Such a person remains blissful forever, day and night. Meeting the Beloved, peace is found. ||3||
Mtu kama huyo anabaki katika furaha tele milele, mchana na usiku. Kukutana na Mungu mpendwa, amani inapokelewa.

ਜੋ ਸਤਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
jo satgur kee sarnaagatee ha-o tin kai bal jaa-o.
I dedicate myself to those who seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru.
Najiweka wakfu kwa wale wanaotafuta ziara ya Guru wa kweli.

ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥
dar sachai sachee vadi-aa-ee sehjay sach samaa-o.
In the Court of the True One, they are blessed with true greatness; they are intuitively absorbed into God
Katika mahakama ya yule Mmoja wa kweli, wanabarikiwa na ukuu wa kweli; wanaunganishwa kiangavu na Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੪੫॥
naanak nadree paa-ee-ai gurmukh mayl milaa-o. ||4||12||45||
But O’ Nanak, It is only by God’s grace that one is blessed with the opportunity of meeting such Guru’s followers.
Lakini Ee Nanak, ni kwa neema ya Mungu tu ambapo mtu anabarikiwa na fursa ya kukutana na wafuasi wa Guru kama hao.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਜਿਉ ਦੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
manmukh karam kamaavnay ji-o dohaagan tan seegaar.
The self-willed manmukh (Humans) performs religious rituals, like the unwanted (deserted) bride decorating her body.
Manmukh wenye wasia ya kibinafsi (binadamu) wanafanya mila za kidini, kama bi harusi asiyetakwa (aliyeachwa) anayepamba mwili wake.

ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
sayjai kant na aavee nit nit ho-ay khu-aar.
Her Husband God does not come to her heart; day after day, she grows more and more miserable.
Bwana wake Mungu haji moyoni mwake; siku baada ya siku, anazidi kuhuzunika.

ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਈ ਨਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
pir kaa mahal na paav-ee naa deesai ghar baar. ||1||
By performing religious rituals self-willed person cannot feel the presence of God. He can’t visualize God’s court.
Kwa kufanya mila za kidini mtu mwenye wasia ya kibinafsi hawezi kuhisi uwepo wa Mungu. Hwezi kupata taswira ya mahakama ya Mungu.

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray ik man naam Dhi-aa-ay.
O’ brother, meditate on the Naam with one-pointed mind.
Ee ndugu, tafakari kuhusu Naam kwa akili yenye nia moja.

ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਜਪਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
santaa sangat mil rahai jap raam naam sukh paa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Remain united with the company of the Saints; and obtain peace by meditating on God’s Name . ||1||Pause||
Baki umejiunga na kikundi cha watakatifu; kisha upate amani kwa kutafakari kuhusu jina la Mungu. ||1||Sitisha||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
gurmukh sadaa sohaaganee pir raakhi-aa ur Dhaar.
The Guru’s followers are like the eternally wedded brides who always keep their spouses (God) enshrined in their heart.
Wafuasi wa Guru ni kama bi harusi walioolewa milele ambao daima wanaweka wenzio wa ndoa (Mungu) vizuri mioyoni mwao.

ਮਿਠਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਸੇਜੈ ਰਵੈ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥
mithaa boleh niv chaleh sayjai ravai bhataar.
They speak sweetly with everyone and behave very humbly. Their Master (God) enjoys their company
Wanazungumza vizuri na kila mtu na kutenda kwa unyenyekevu. Bwana wao (Mungu) anafurahia hudhurio yao.

ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਹੇਤੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
sobhaavantee sohaaganee jin gur kaa hayt apaar. ||2||
The person who has infinite love for the Guru is like a well respected bride enjoying marital bliss.
Mtu ambaye ana upendo usio na mwisho wa Guru ni kama bi harusi anayeheshimika anayefurahia furaha tele ya ndoa.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਭਾਗੈ ਕਾ ਉਦਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
poorai bhaag satgur milai jaa bhaagai kaa ud-u ho-ay.
It is only by perfect good fortune, that a person’s destiny awakes, and he meets the true Guru.
Ni kwa bahati nzuri kamili tu, ambako hatima ya mtu inaamka, kisha anakutana na Guru wa kweli.

ਅੰਤਰਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
antrahu dukh bharam katee-ai sukh paraapat ho-ay.
Sufferings and doubts are removed from within, and peace is obtained.
Kuteseka na shaka zinaondolewa kutoka ndani, an amani inapatwa.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
gur kai bhaanai jo chalai dukh na paavai ko-ay. ||3||
One who accepts the Guru’s Will never suffers any pain. ||3||
Yule anayekubali wasia wa Guru daima hateseki kwa uchungu wowote.

ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
gur kay bhaanay vich amrit hai sehjay paavai ko-ay.
The Amrit, the Ambrosial Nectar is in the Guru’s Will. With intuitive ease, it is obtained.
Amrit, nekta ya ambrosia ipo katika wasia wa Guru. Kwa urahisi angavu, inapatikana.

ਜਿਨਾ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਪੀਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
jinaa paraapat tin pee-aa ha-umai vichahu kho-ay.
They who have obtained this nectar, they have partaken it by dispelling their ego from within
Wale ambao wamepata nekta hii, wameishiriki kwa kujitenga na ubinafsi wao kutoka kindani.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੪੬॥
naanak gurmukh naam Dhi-aa-ee-ai sach milaavaa ho-ay. ||4||13||46||
O’ Nanak, following the Guru’s teachings we should meditate on God’s Name with love and devotion, so that we can unite with Him
Ee Nanak, kufuata mafundisho ya Guru tunafaa kutafakari kuhusu jina la Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea, ndiposa tuweze kuungana na Mungu.

ਜਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਗੈ ਧਰੇਇ ॥
jaa pir jaanai aapnaa tan man agai Dharay-ay.
When a soul (bride) recognizes God (as her spouse), she surrenders her body and mind to Him
Wakati roho (bi harusi) inatambua Mungu (kama mwenzio wake), anasalimu mwili na akili yake kwake.

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੀਆ ਸੇਈ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
sohaaganee karam kamaavdee-aa say-ee karam karay-i.
Than this soul (bride) does the deeds like the eternally united soules (happily wedded brides)
Basi roho hii (bi harusi) inafanya vitendo kama roho zilizounganishwa milele (bi harusi walioolewa kwa furaha)

ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੜਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਦੇਇ ॥੧॥
sehjay saach milaavrhaa saach vadaa-ee day-ay. ||1||
With intuitive ease, you shall merge with the True God, and He shall bless you with true greatness. ||1||
Kwa urahisi angavu, unafaa kuungana na Mungu wa kweli, na Yeye atakubariki kwa ukuu wa kweli.

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray gur bin bhagat na ho-ay.
O’ brothers, without the Guru, there is no devotional worship.
Ee ndugu, bila Guru, hakuna ibada ya kujitolea.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin gur bhagat na paa-ee-ai jay lochai sabh ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Even if everyone may long for it, still without the Guru’s guidance, God’s worship cannot be done.
Hata kila mtu akiitamani, badi bila mwongozo wa Guru, ibada kwa Mungu haiwezi kufanywa.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
lakh cha-oraaseeh fayr pa-i-aa kaaman doojai bhaa-ay.
The soul (bride), who remains caught in duality (love for things other than God) wanders through millions of existences.
Roho (bi harusi), ambaye anabaki amenaswa na uwili (upendo wa vitu mbali na Mungu) anazurura kupitia mamilioni ya kuishi.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਦੁਖੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
bin gur need na aavee dukhee rain vihaa-ay.
Without the Guru’s guidance, she finds no sleep (no rest), and spends the night (her life) in agony.
Bila mwongozo wa Guru, hapati usingizi wowote (hapumziki), na anasalia usiku mzima (maisha yake) kwa taabu.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੨॥
bin sabdai pir na paa-ee-ai birthaa janam gavaa-ay. ||2||
Without the Guru’s word the soul (bride) cannot realize God (husband) and wastes away life in vain
Bila neno la Guru, roho (bi harusi) hawezi kugundua Mungu (bwana harusi) na anaharibu maisha yake bure.
