ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਰਾਫੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁਆਵਗੀਰ ਸਭਿ ਉਘੜਿ ਆਏ ॥
jaa satgur saraaf nadar kar daykhai su-aavgeer sabh ugharh aa-ay.
Just as a jeweler picks-out the impurities in the gold, similarly when the True Guru looks at the mortals carefully, all the selfish ones are exposed.
Kama vile Sonara huchagua vijusi ndani ya dhahabu, vilevile pindi Guru anapotazama mfaji kwa makini, wale wote wabinafsi wanafichuliwa.

ਓਇ ਜੇਹਾ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਤੇਹਾ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਓਇ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹੇ ਦਯਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥
o-ay jayhaa chitvahi nit tayhaa paa-in o-ay tayho jayhay da-yi vajaa-ay.
Whatever those selfish persons think in their minds daily, they receive the result accordingly, and God makes them known as such.
Chochote wale wabinafsi wanadhamiri katika akili zao kila siku, wanapata matokeo vilivyo na Mungu anawafanya kujulikana vile.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੁਹੀ ਸਿਰੀ ਖਸਮੁ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤੈ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਚਲਤ ਸਬਾਏ ॥੧॥
nanak duhee siree khasam aapay vartai nit kar kar daykhai chalat sabaa-ay.||1||
O’ Nanak, God Himself pervades both ends (guru’s followers and the selfish ones). He Himself enacts and watches His wondrous plays. ||1||
O’ Nanak, Mungu Mwenyewe anashamiri mwisho wote ( wafuasi wa guru na wale wabinafsi). Yeye Mwenyewe huidhinisha na kutazama michezo kwa ajabu.

Salok, Guru wa nne:

ਇਕੁ ਮਨੁ ਇਕੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਗੈ ਸੋ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇ ॥
ik man ik varatdaa jit lagai so thaa-ay paa-ay.
There is only one mind in a person, and at any time only one type of thought pervades in it. On whatever it focuses itself, it achieves that objective.
Kuna wazo moja tu katika mwanadamu, na kwa wakati wowote kuna aina moja ya fikira inayoshamiri ndani yake. Kwa kile inapokusudia, inafanikiwa kwa shabaha.

ਕੋਈ ਗਲਾ ਕਰੇ ਘਨੇਰੀਆ ਜਿ ਘਰਿ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਈ ਖਾਇ ॥
ko-ee galaa karay ghanayree-aa je ghar vath hovai saa-ee khaa-ay.
One may talk about many things, but will achieve only what he puts his mind to.
Mtu anaweza kusimulia kuhusu mambo mengi, lakini atapata atakacho wekea fikra zake

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
bin satgur sojhee naa pavai ahaNkaar na vichahu jaa-ay.
Without surrendering the mind to the True Guru, this understanding is not obtained, and egotism does not depart from within.
Bila kusalimisha akili kwa Guru wa kweli, huu ufahamu sio wa kupokelewa, na ubinafsi hautoki ndani yake.

ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਨੋ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਹਥੁ ਤਡਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਗਾਇ ॥
ahaNkaaree-aa no dukh bhukh hai hath tadeh ghar ghar mangaa-ay.
The egotistical people suffer from the intense desire for worldly riches and because of this desire, they wander like beggars from door to door.
Watu wabinafsi huteseka kutokana na ari kamambe kwa utajiri wa kidunia na kwa sababu ya ari hii, wanatanga kama waombaji kutoka mlango hadi mwingine.

ਕੂੜੁ ਠਗੀ ਗੁਝੀ ਨਾ ਰਹੈ ਮੁਲੰਮਾ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
koorh thagee gujhee naa rahai mulammaa paaj leh jaa-ay.
Their falsehood and fraud cannot remain concealed, and like the polish on a counterfeit coin, their falsehood is exposed.
Ulaghai na ghashi yao haiwezi baki kufichwa, na kama mng’aro kwa sarafu bandia, ulaghai wao hufichuliwa.

ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥
jis hovai poorab likhi-aa tis satgur milai parabh aa-ay.
The one who is so predestined meets true Guru, who unites one with God.
Aliyechaguliwa mbele hupatana na Guru wa Kweli, anayeunganisha mmoja na Mungu.

ਜਿਉ ਲੋਹਾ ਪਾਰਸਿ ਭੇਟੀਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸੁਵਰਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ॥
ji-o lohaa paaras bhaytee-ai mil sangat suvran ho-ay jaa-ay.
Just as when iron is rubbed with Paras (legendary stone) it becomes gold, similarly upon joining the holy congregation, one becomes pure like gold.
Kama vile ilivyo chuma ikifikichwa kwa Paras ( jiwe la kihekaya) inakuwa dhahabu, vilevile katika kuingia katika ushirika mtakatifu, mmoja anakuwa kama dhahabu safi.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਚਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
jan nanak kay parabh too Dhanee ji-o bhaavai tivai chalaa-ay. ||2||
O’ God, You are the Master of all, You lead them as You wish, says Nanak. ||2||
E’ Mungu, Wewe ndiwe Bwana wa yote, Unawaongoza upendavyo, asema Nanak.

ਪਉੜੀ ॥
pa-orhee.
Pauree:

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jin har hirdai sayvi-aa tin har aap milaa-ay.
They who meditate on God with loving devotion, He unites them with Himself.
Wanaotafakari juu ya Mungu kwa mahuba ya upendo, anawaunganisha na yeye Mwenyewe.

ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਸਾਝਿ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥
gun kee saajh tin si-o karee sabh avgan sabad jalaa-ay.
They, who share the virtues of such people who are united with God, also burn their sins by following the Guru’s word.
Wale, wanagawanya maadili ya watu kama wale walioungana na Mungu, pia wanachoma dhambi zao kwa kufuata neno lake Guru.

ਅਉਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਿ ਪਲਰੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਏ ॥
a-ugan vikan palree jis deh so sachay paa-ay.
O’ God, the one whom You bless, shares these virtues and gets rid of his vices easily like useless stuff.
E’ Mungu, Yule unayebariki, anagawa maadili haya na kuondoa maovu yake kwa urahisi kama kitu ovyo.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਮੇਟਿ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟੀਆਏ ॥
balihaaree gur aapnay jin a-ugan mayt gun pargatee-aa-ay.
I dedicate myself to my Guru, who after erasing sins has revealed the virtues.
Najiweka wakfu kwa Guru wangu, ambaye baada ya kuondoa dhambi amedhihirisha fadhila.

ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਕੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਲਾਏ ॥੭॥
vadee vadi-aa-ee vaday kee gurmukh aalaa-ay. ||7||
The Guru’s follower chants the glorious greatness of the great God. ||7||
Mfuasi wake Guru huimba utukufu wa ukuu wa Mungu Mkuu.

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੪ ॥

Salok, Fourth Guru:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
satgur vich vadee vadi-aa-ee jo an-din har har naam Dhi-aavai.
This is the great virtue in the true Guru that He always meditates on God’s Name with love and devotion.
Hii ni adili katika Guru wa kweli kuwa atafakari juu ya jina la Mungu kila wakati kwa upendo na unyenyekevu.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਮਤ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥
har har naam ramat such sanjam har naamay hee tariptaavai.
For the Guru, meditating on God’s Name is all the purity and discipline he needs to observe, and it is through God’s Name that he is satiated.
Kwa Guru, kutafakari juu ya jina la Mungu ni safi na nidhamu anayohitaji kutunza, na ni kwa jina la Mungu anapokinawishwa.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਰਖ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
har naam taan har naam deebaan har naamo rakh karaavai.
God’s Name is His power and support; it is God’s Name that protects Him.
Jina la Mungu ni Nguvu na msaada; ni jina la Mungu linalomlinda.

ਜੋ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਪੂਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸੋ ਮਨ ਇਛੇ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
jo chit laa-ay poojay gur moorat so man ichhay fal paavai.
The person who worships the Guru, keeping his qualities in the mind, receives theboons of his heart’s desire.
Yule ambaye anamwabudu Guru, na kuhifadhi sifa hizi katika akili zake, hupokea baraka za tamani ya moyo yake.

ਜੋ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਮਾਰ ਦਿਵਾਵੈ ॥
jo nindaa karay satgur pooray kee tis kartaa maar divaavai.
The one who slanders the perfect Guru, receives punishment from the Creator.
Yule anayekashifu Guru kamili, anapokea adhabu kutoka kwa Muumba.

ਫੇਰਿ ਓਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਓਸੁ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਓਹੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਬੀਜਿਆ ਆਪੇ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
fayr oh vaylaa os hath na aavai oh aapnaa beeji-aa aapay khaavai.
The time wasted in slandering the Guru does not come back and he reaps what he had planted.
Wakati uliopotezwa katika kukashifu Guru haurudi na anavuna kile alichokipanda.

ਨਰਕਿ ਘੋਰਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਖੜਿਆ ਜਿਉ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਇ ਗਲਾਵੈ ॥
narak ghor muhi kaalai kharhi-aa ji-o taskar paa-ay galaavai.
Such a person suffers terrible torture and disgrace like a thief, who with the face blackened and halter around the neck, is driven into the hell-like prison.
Mtu kama Yule anateseka adhabu mbaya na haya kama mwizi, ambaye na uso mweusi na kinza shingini mwake, huelekezwa jela iliyo kama jehanum.

ਫਿਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਵੈ ਤਾ ਉਬਰੈ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥
fir satgur kee sarnee pavai taa ubrai jaa har har naam Dhi-aavai.
Such a person is saved from these sufferings, only if he seeks the shelter of the true Guru and meditates on God’s Name with loving devotion.
Mtu kama Yule anakombolewa kutokana na mateso haya, ikiwa atatafuta kinga ya Guru wa Kweli na hutafakari juu ya jina la Mungu kwa mahuba ya upendo.

ਹਰਿ ਬਾਤਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤੇ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
har baataa aakh sunaa-ay naanak har kartay ayvai bhaavai. ||1||
Nanak is simply describing the ways of God; this is what pleases the creator that the slanderer of the saints suffers terribly. ||1||
Nanak anazielezea njia za Mungu kwa kifupi; hii ni hilo ambalo linapendeza Muumba kuwa wachochezi wa watakatigu wateseke vibaya.

Salok, Fourth Guru.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਮੰਨੈ ਓਹੁ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਮੁਠਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
pooray gur kaa hukam na mannai oh manmukh agi-aan muthaa bikh maa-i-aa.
One who does not obey the perfect Guru’s order is self-willed and ignorant, he is robbed by the poisonous Maya (worldly riches)
Yule ambaye hazingatii amri za Guru kamili ni mwenye ubinafsina ujinga, nyang’anywa na Maya iliyo na sumu (utajiri wa dunia)

ਓਸੁ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਕੂੜੋ ਕਰਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਅਣਹੋਦੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਦਯਿ ਓਸ ਦੈ ਗਲਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
os andar koorh koorho kar bujhai anhoday jhagrhay da-yi os dai gal paa-i-aa.
Falsehood is in his mind, he deems everyone is also false and therefore God has entangled him in baseless conflicts
Uongo ulio katika fikira zake, anafikiri wengine kuwa waongo na kwa hiyo Mungu amemfunga katika mapigano bure.

ਓਹੁ ਗਲ ਫਰੋਸੀ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੀ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
oh gal farosee karay bahutayree os daa boli-aa kisai na bhaa-i-aa.
He tries to earn his living through prattles but no one likes the words he speaks
Anajaribu kuchuma kipato kupitia vijineno lakini hakuna anayependezwa na maneno anayozungumza.

ਓਹੁ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੰਢੈ ਜਿਉ ਰੰਨ ਦੋੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਓਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਜੋੜੇ ਓਸੁ ਭੀ ਲਛਣੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
oh ghar ghar handhai ji-o rann dohaagan os naal muhu jorhay os bhee lachhan laa-i-aa.
He wanders from house to house like an abandoned woman, and blemishesanyone who associates with him.
Anatanga kutoka nyumba moja hadi nyingine kama mke aliyewachwa na kulemaza yeyote anayehusiana naye.s

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਸੁ ਛਡਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਬਹਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
gurmukh ho-ay so alipato vartai os daa paas chhad gur paas bahi jaa-i-aa.
The Guru’s follower forsaking the self-willed, stays in the Guru’s company.
Wafuasi wa Guru wanaoziwacha njia za kibinafsi, huishi katika uwepo wa Guru
