ਜਿਨਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਨ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jinaa raas na sach hai ki-o tinaa sukh ho-ay.
Those who do not have the Assets of Truth-how can they find peace?
Wale ambao hawana rasilimali ya Ukweli – watawezaje kupata amani?

ਖੋਟੈ ਵਣਜਿ ਵਣੰਜਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਖੋਟਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
khotai vanaj vananji-ai man tan khotaa ho-ay.
If they continue living in falsehood, their minds and bodies become false.
Wakiendelea kuishi katika uwongo, akili zao na miili yao inakuwa ya uwongo.

ਫਾਹੀ ਫਾਥੇ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਉ ਦੂਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
faahee faathay mirag ji-o dookh ghano nit ro-ay. ||2||
Like the deer caught in the trap, they suffer in terrible agony; they continually cry out in pain.
Kama kulungu aliyeshikwa kwenye mtego, wanateseka katika uchungu mbaya; wanalia kwa uchungu bila mwisho.

ਖੋਟੇ ਪੋਤੈ ਨਾ ਪਵਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
khotay potai naa paveh tin har gur daras na ho-ay.
Like the counterfeit coins, the false people are not honored in God’s court and they do not obtain the blessed vision of God.
Kama sarafu bandia, watu waongo hawaheshimiwi katika mahakama ya Mungu na hawapata mtazamo uliobarikiwa wa Mungu.

ਖੋਟੇ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਖੋਟਿ ਨ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥
khotay jaat na pat hai khot na seejhas ko-ay.
The false ones have no social status or honor. No one succeeds through falsehood.
Wale waongo hawana hadhi ya kijamii au heshima, Hakuna mtu anafanikiwa kupitia uwongo.

ਖੋਟੇ ਖੋਟੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੩॥
khotay khot kamaavanaa aa-ay ga-i-aa pat kho-ay. ||3||
The false persons who practice falsehood only, lose their honor and fall into cycle of birth and death.
Watu waongo wanaotenda uwongo pekee, wanapoteza heshima yao na kuanguka katika mzunguko wa kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥
naanak man samjaa-ee-ai gur kai sabad saalaah.
O’ Nanak, we should instruct our mind through the Guru’s word and God’s praise.
Ee Nanak, tunafaa kuagiza akili yetu kupitia neno la Guru na sifa za Mungu.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਭਾਰੁ ਨ ਭਰਮੁ ਤਿਨਾਹ ॥
raam naam rang rati-aa bhaar na bharam tinaah.
Those who are imbued with the love for God are not afflicted with sin or doubt of any kind.
Wale ambao wamejawa na upendo kwa Mungu hawateseki kwa dhambi au shaka ya aina yoyote.

ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਅਗਲਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹਰਿ ਮਨ ਮਾਹ ॥੪॥੨੩॥
har jap laahaa aglaa nirbha-o har man maah. ||4||23||
By remembering God, they gain the spiritual bliss immensely, the fearless God comes to dwell in their mind.
Kwa kumkumbuka Mungu, wanapata furaha tele ya kiroho kwa kiasi kikubwa, Mungu asiye na woga anakuja kuishi akilini mwao.

ਧਨੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਅਰੁ ਫੁਲੜਾ ਨਾਠੀਅੜੇ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
Dhan joban ar fulrhaa naathee-arhay din chaar.
Wealth, the beauty of youth and flowers are guests for only a few days.
Utajiri, urembo wa ujana na maua ni wageni kwa siku chache tu.

ਪਬਣਿ ਕੇਰੇ ਪਤ ਜਿਉ ਢਲਿ ਢੁਲਿ ਜੁੰਮਣਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
paban kayray pat ji-o dhal dhul jummanhaar. ||1||
Like the leaves of the water-lily, they wither and fade and finally die.
Kama majani ya lily maji, wananyauka na kufifia na mwishowe wanakufa.

ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ਲੈ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਨਉ ਹੁਲਾ ॥
rang maan lai pi-aari-aa jaa joban na-o hulaa.
O’ my friend, as long as you are in the prime of Your youth, enjoy the spiritual pleasure of God’s love.
Ee rafiki yangu, ili mradi upo katika kilele cha ujana wako, furahia raha ya kiroho ya upendo wa Mungu.

ਦਿਨ ਥੋੜੜੇ ਥਕੇ ਭਇਆ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਚੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
din thorh-rhay thakay bha-i-aa puraanaa cholaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You have only few days left on this earth, and then you will feel weary and your body will grow old. (then you will not be able to remember God)
Una siku chache tu zimebaki duniani humu, na kisha utachoka na mwili wako utazeeka. (kisha hutaweza kumkumbuka Mungu)

ਸਜਣ ਮੇਰੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਜਾਇ ਸੁਤੇ ਜੀਰਾਣਿ ॥
sajan mayray rangulay jaa-ay sutay jaaraan.
My beloved friends have gone to sleep in the graveyard.
Rafiki zangu wapendwa wameenda kulala makaburini.

ਹੰ ਭੀ ਵੰਞਾ ਡੁਮਣੀ ਰੋਵਾ ਝੀਣੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥੨॥
haN bhee vanjaa dumnee rovaa jheenee baan. ||2||
(Because of separation from my Master), I am weeping in feeble voice and in my double-mindedness, I shall have to go there as well.
(Kutokana na utengano kutoka Bwana wangu), nalia kwa sauti dhaifu na katika akili yangu maradufu, itanipasa kuenda huko pia.

ਕੀ ਨ ਸੁਣੇਹੀ ਗੋਰੀਏ ਆਪਣ ਕੰਨੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
kee na sunayhee goree-ay aapan kannee so-ay.
O’ my beautiful soul-bride, why don’t you carefully listen this with your ears?
Ee roho yangu mzuri kama bi harusi, kwa nini husikii kwa makini kutumia masikio yako?

ਲਗੀ ਆਵਹਿ ਸਾਹੁਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨ ਪੇਈਆ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
lagee aavahi saahurai nit na pay-ee-aa ho-ay. ||3||
that you must go to your in-laws; (next world), and you cannot stay with your parents forever (this world).
Ndiyo lazima uende kwa shemeji zako; (dunia itakayofuata), na huwezi kukaa na wazazi wako milele (dunia hii).

ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਤੀ ਪੇਈਐ ਜਾਣੁ ਵਿਰਤੀ ਸੰਨਿ ॥
naanak sutee pay-ee-ai jaan virtee sann.
O’ Nanak, the slumbering soul bride (who remains engrossed in the worldly affairs only), is being robbed of her virtues in daylight by the vices.
Ee Nanak, roho kama bi harusi inayolala (anayebaki amejihusisha katika shughuli za kidunia pekee), anaibiwa fadhial zake katika mwanga wa mchana na dhambi.

ਗੁਣਾ ਗਵਾਈ ਗੰਠੜੀ ਅਵਗਣ ਚਲੀ ਬੰਨਿ ॥੪॥੨੪॥
gunaa gavaa-ee ganth-rhee avgan chalee bann. ||4||24||
She has lost her virtues and will depart from this world with loads of sins.
Amepoteza fadhila zake na ataondoka duniani humu na dhambi nyingi.

ਆਪੇ ਰਸੀਆ ਆਪਿ ਰਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
aapay rasee-aa aap ras aapay ravanhaar.
He is full of love, He Himself is the Enjoyment and He himself is the one who enjoys the pleasure.
Amejawa na pendo; Yeye mwenyewe ni Raha na Yeye mwenyewe ndiye anayefurahia raha.

ਆਪੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਚੋਲੜਾ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਜ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
aapay hovai cholrhaa aapay sayj bhataar. ||1||
He Himself is the bride and He Himself is the Master (Bridegroom).
Yeye mwenyewe ni bi harusi na Yeye mwenyewe ni Bwana (bwana harusi).

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rang rataa mayraa saahib rav rahi-aa bharpoor. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Imbued with love, my Master is pervading everywhere.
Akijawa na upendo, Bwana wangu anaenea kote.

ਆਪੇ ਮਾਛੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਜਾਲੁ ॥
aapay maachhee machhulee aapay paanee jaal.
He Himself is the fisherman and the fish; He Himself is the water and the net.
Yeye mwenyewe ni mvuvi na samaki; Yeye mwenyewe ni maji na wavu.

ਆਪੇ ਜਾਲ ਮਣਕੜਾ ਆਪੇ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲਾਲੁ ॥੨॥
aapay jaal mankarhaa aapay andar laal. ||2||
He Himself is the metal ball of the net (sinker), and He Himself is the bait.
Yeye mwenyewe ni mpira wa chuma kwenye wavu (ya kuzamisha wavu), na Yeye mwenyewe ni chambo.

ਆਪੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਸਖੀਏ ਮੇਰਾ ਲਾਲੁ ॥
aapay baho biDh rangulaa sakhee-ay mayraa laal.
O’ friend, my beloved God is playful in many ways.
Ee rafiki, Mungu wangu mpendwa ni mchangamfu kwa njia nyingi.

ਨਿਤ ਰਵੈ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਦੇਖੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਹਾਲੁ ॥੩॥
nit ravai sohaaganee daykh hamaaraa haal. ||3||
The Master (God) always blesses the fortunate soul brides. But look at me the alienated one who never gets His glimp.
Bwana (Mungu) daima anabariki roho kama bi harusi zilizobahatika. Lakini nitazama mimi niliyetengwa ambaye sipati kumuona.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤੂ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਤੂ ਹੰਸੁ ॥
paranvai naanak bayntee too sarvar too hans.
Prays Nanak, please hear my prayer: You are the pool, and You are the soul-swan.
Anaomba Nanak, tafadhali sikiza ombi langu; Wewe ndiwe kidimbwi, na Wewe ndiwe roho-swani.

ਕਉਲੁ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਕਵੀਆ ਤੂ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੁ ॥੪॥੨੫॥
ka-ul too hai kavee-aa too hai aapay vaykh vigas. ||4||25||
You are the lotus flower of the day and You are the water-lily of the night. You Yourself behold them, andblossom forth in bliss.
Wewe ndiwe maua ya lotus ya mchana na Wewe ndiwe lili ya maji ya usiku. Wewe mwenyewe unayatazama, na yananawiri katika furaha tele.

ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਬੀਜੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਰੋ ਸਲਿਲ ਆਪਾਉ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਣੀ ॥
ih tan Dhartee beej karmaa karo salil aapaa-o saaringpaanee.
O’ my friend, consider this body of yours like a farm, your good deeds the seed and Naam as water for irrigation.
Ee rafiki yangu, fikiria mwili huu yako kuwa kama shamba, vitendo vyako vizuri ni mbegu na Naam ni maji ya umwagiliaji.

ਮਨੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਇਉ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਪਦੁ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
man kirsaan har ridai jammaa-ay lai i-o paavas pad nirbaanee. ||1||
Let your mind be like a farmer and grow the crop of Naam in your heart. This way, You shall achieve the supreme state of freedom from all worldly desires.
Acha akili yako iwe kama mkulima na upande mmea wa Naam moyoni mwako. Kwa njia hii, utatimiza hali kuu ya uhutu kutokana na hamu zote za dunia.

ਕਾਹੇ ਗਰਬਸਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
kaahay garbas moorhay maa-i-aa.
O’ fool, why do you take pride in worldly riches?
Ee mpumbavu, kwa nini unajivunia utajiri wa kidunia?

ਪਿਤ ਸੁਤੋ ਸਗਲ ਕਾਲਤ੍ਰ ਮਾਤਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੋਹਿ ਨ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਇਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pit suto sagal kaaltar maataa tayray hohi na ant sakhaa-i-aa. Rahaa-o.
Father, children, spouse, mother and all relatives-they shall not be able to help you in the end.
Baba, watoto, mwenzio wa ndoa, mama na jamaa wote – hawataweza kukusaidia mwishoni.

ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਿਰਖਾ ਕਰੇ ਇਨ ਤਜਿ ਆਤਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
bikhai bikaar dusat kirkhaa karay in taj aatmai ho-ay Dhi-aa-ee.
Root out the weeds of worldly sins, vices and evil thoughts from your mind and let your soul remember God with love and devotion.
Ng’oa mizizi ya magugu ya dhambi, maovu na fikira mbaya za kidunia kutoka akilini mwako na uwache roho yako ikumbuke Mungu kwa upendo na kujitolea.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹੋਹਿ ਜਬ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਮਧੁ ਆਸ੍ਰਮਾਈ ॥੨॥
jap tap sanjam hohi jab raakhay kamal bigsai maDh aasarmaa-ee. ||2||
When remembrance God, austerity and self control become his protectors, his heart blossom like a lotus flower and he feels as if nectar is dripping within.
Wakati anamkumbuka Mungu, unyenyekevu na kujidhibiti kunakuwa walinzi wake, moyo wake unanawiri kama ua la lotus na anahisi kana kwamba nekta inatiririka ndani mwake.

ਬੀਸ ਸਪਤਾਹਰੋ ਬਾਸਰੋ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਤੀਨਿ ਖੋੜਾ ਨਿਤ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਾਰੈ ॥
bees saptaahro baasro sangrahai teen khorhaa nit kaal saarai.
One who gathers the wealth of Naam every day and remembers death throughout the three stages of life (childhood, youth, and old age),
Yule anayekusanya utajiri wa Naam kila siku na kukumbuka kifo kote kwenye hatua tatu za maisha (utoto, ujana na uzee),

ਦਸ ਅਠਾਰਮੈ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੋ ਚੀਨੈ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਇਵ ਏਕੁ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੩॥੨੬॥
das athaar mai aprampro cheenai kahai naanak iv ayk taarai. ||3||26||
and seeks the same infinite God from the study of all the religious books. God helps that person cross over the dreadful worldly ocean of vices, says Nanak.
Na kutafuta Mungu Mmoja asiye na mwisho kutoka kusoma kwa vitabu vya kidini. Mungu anasaidia mtu huyo kuvuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi inayoogofya, asema Nanak.
