ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਏ ਹਮ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਰਿਆ ॥੭॥
parabh paa-ay ham avar na bhaari-aa. ||7||
I have also realized God and I am not looking for anyone else. ||7||
Pia nimegundua Mungu na sasa sitafuti yeyote mwengine.

ਸਾਚ ਮਹਲਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਇਆ ॥
saach mahal gur alakh lakhaa-i-aa.
Whom the Guru has revealed the incomprehensible God within his heart,
Kwa yule ambaye Guru amedhihirishia Mungu asiyeeleweka moyoni mwake,

ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਹਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
nihchal mahal nahee chaha-i-aa maa-i-aa.
he has attained such a state of mind where Maya has no effect at all.
Amefikia hali kama hiyo ya akili ambapo Maya haina athari kwake hata kidogo.

ਸਾਚਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੮॥
saach santokhay bharam chukaa-i-aa. ||8||
The doubt of those is dispelled who attain contentment by attuning to God. ||8||
Shaka ya hao inaondolewa ambao wametoshelezwa kwa kumakinikia Mungu.

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
jin kai man vasi-aa sach so-ee.
Those in whose heart dwells the eternal God,
Wale ambao moyoni mwao Mungu wa milele anaishi,

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
tin kee sangat gurmukh ho-ee.
in their association one becomes a Guru’s follower.
Katika uhusiano wao mtu anakuwa mfuasi wa Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਈ ॥੯॥੧੫॥
naanak saach naam mal kho-ee. ||9||15||
O’ Nanak, that person gets rid of the dirt of vices by meditating on the Name of the eternal God. ||9||15||
Ee Nanak, mtu huyo anaondoa uchafu wa maovu kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu wa milele.

ਰਾਮਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਰਾਪੈ ਜਾ ਕਾ ॥
raam naam chit raapai jaa kaa.
One whose consciousness is imbued with the love of God’s Name.
Yule ambaye fahamu yake imejawa na upendo wa Jina la Mungu.

ਉਪਜੰਪਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਤਾ ਕਾ ॥੧॥
upjamp darsan keejai taa kaa. ||1||
We should see the sight of that holy person at early dawn. ||1||
Tunafaa kuona mwono wa mtu huyo mtakatifu asubuhi mapema.

ਰਾਮ ਨ ਜਪਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
raam na japahu abhaag tumaaraa.
If you do not meditate on God’s Name, it is your misfortune.
Iwapo hautafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, msiba ni wako.

ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jug jug daataa parabh raam hamaaraa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Our Master-God has been bestowing gifts on us for ages upon ages. ||1||Pause||
Bwana-Mungu wetu amekuwa akitawaza tuzo kwetu nyakati baada ya nyakati. ||1||Sitisha||

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
gurmat raam japai jan pooraa.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings and meditates on God, becomes a perfect devotee of God.
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru na kutafakari kuhusu Mungu, anakuwa mtawa kamili wa Mungu.

ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਅਨਹਤ ਬਾਜੇ ਤੂਰਾ ॥੨॥
tit ghat anhat baajay tooraa. ||2||
He is always delighted as if continuous divine melody is playing in his heart. ||2||
Daima amefurahia kana kwamba melodia takatifu isiyo na mwisho inacheza moyoni mwake.

ਜੋ ਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
jo jan raam bhagat har pi-aar.
The devotees who worships God with loving devotion,
Watawa wanaoabudu Mungu kwa kujitolea kwa upendo,

ਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੩॥
say parabh raakhay kirpaa Dhaar. ||3||
showering His mercy, God saves them from the ego and vices. ||3||
akinyunyuzia huruma yake, Mungu anawaokoa kutoka ubinafsi na maovu.

ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
jin kai hirdai har har so-ee.
In whose heart dwells God,
Mtu ambaye Mungu anaishi moyoni mwake,

ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
tin kaa daras paras sukh ho-ee. ||4||
peace is attained by beholding the sight of those devotees. ||4||
amani inapatwa kwa kutazama mwono wa watawa hao.

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵੈ ॥
sarab jee-aa meh ayko ravai.
The same God is pervading within all beings,
Mungu huyo mmoja anaena ndani mwa viumbe vyote,

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਭਵੈ ॥੫॥
manmukh ahaNkaaree fir joonee bhavai. ||5||
but the self-willed person acts egotistically and wanders in various births. ||5||
lakini mtu mwenye hiari binafsi anatenda kwa ubinafsi na kuzurura katika kuzaliwa kwingi tofauti.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
so boojhai jo satgur paa-ay.
One who follows the Guru’s teachings understands that same God dwells in all.
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru anaelewa kwamba Mungu mmoja anaishi ndani ya wote.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਏ ॥੬॥
ha-umai maaray gur sabday paa-ay. ||6||
Subduing his ego, through the Guru’s word he realizes God. ||6||
Akishinda ubinafsi wake, kupitia neno la Guru anamgundua Mungu.

ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਕਿਉ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
araDh uraDh kee sanDh ki-o jaanai.
Without devotional worship, how can anyone understand the Union between the human soul and the Supreme soul?
Bila ibada ya kujitolea, mtu yeyote anawezaje kuelewa Muungano kati ya roho ya binadamu na roho Kuu?

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੰਧਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੭॥
gurmukh sanDh milai man maanai. ||7||
Only that Guru’s follower whose mind firmly believes in meditation on Naam attains this union. ||7||
Mfuasi huyo pekee wa Guru ambaye akili yake inaamini kutafakari kwa Naam kwa uthabiti anapata muungano huu.

ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਕਉ ਗੁਣੁ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
ham paapee nirgun ka-o gun karee-ai.
O’ God, we are sinners without any virtues; please bless us with such virtues so that we can meditate on Naam.
Ee Mungu, sisi ni watenda dhambi tusio na fadhila zozote; tafadhali tubariki na fadhila kama hizo ili tuweze kutafakari kuhusu Naam.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਤਰੀਐ ॥੮॥੧੬॥
parabh ho-ay da-i-aal naanak jan taree-ai. ||8||16||
O’ Nanak, when God shows His mercy and blesses with Naam, only then His devotees can swim across the worldly ocean of vices. ||8||16||
Ee Nanak, wakati Mungu anaonyesha huruma yake na kubariki kwa Naam, wakati huo tu ndio watawa wake wanaweza kuogelea wakivuka bahari ya kidunia ya dhambi.

ਸੋਲਹ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਗਉੜੀ ਕੀਆ ॥
solah asatpadee-aa gu-aarayree ga-orhee kee-aa.
This is the end of sixteen ashtapadis of First Guru in Raag Gwaarayree Gauree.
Huu ndio mwisho wa ashtapadis kumi na sita za Guru wa Kwanza katika Raag Gwaarayree Gauree.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
One eternal God. Realized by the grace of the true Guru:
Mungu Mmoja wa milele. Anayegunduliwa kwa neema ya Guru wa kweli:

ਜਿਉ ਗਾਈ ਕਉ ਗੋਇਲੀ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
ji-o gaa-ee ka-o go-ilee raakhahi kar saaraa.
Just as the dairy farmer watches over and protects his cows,
Kama vile mfugaji wa ng’ombe ya maziwa anachungu na kulinda ng’ombe wake,

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪਾਲਹਿ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
ahinis paaleh raakh layhi aatam sukh Dhaaraa. ||1||
similarly, Godalways cherishes us, protects us from evils and blesses us with spiritual peace. ||1||
Vivyo hivyo, Mungu daima anatuthamini, anatulinda kutoka maovu na kutubariki na amani ya kiroho.

ਇਤ ਉਤ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
it ut raakho deen da-i-aalaa.
O’ God, merciful Master of the meek, protect me here and hereafter.
Ee Mungu, Bwana wa wapole mwenye huruma, nilinde humu na katika dunia itakayofuata.

ਤਉ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ta-o sarnaagat nadar nihaalaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I seek Your refuge, please bless me with Your glance of grace. ||1||Pause||
Natafuta kimbilio chako, tafadhali nibariki kwa mtazamo wa neema yako. ||1||Sitisha||

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਰਵਿ ਰਹੇ ਰਖੁ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
jah daykh-a-u tah rav rahay rakh raakhanhaaraa.
O’ God, the savior, wherever I look, I see You pervading there; please save me.
Ee Mungu, mwokozi, popote niangaliapo, nakuona Wewe ukienea hapo; tafadhali niokoe.

ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
tooN daataa bhugtaa tooNhai tooN paraan aDhaaraa. ||2||
You are the benefactor and also the enjoyer, You are the support of our life. |2|
Wewe ndiwe mfadhili na pia mwenye kufurahia, Wewe ndiwe nguzo ya maisha yetu.

ਕਿਰਤੁ ਪਇਆ ਅਧ ਊਰਧੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
kirat pa-i-aa aDh oorDhee bin gi-aan beechaaraa.
Without contemplating spiritual wisdom, one keeps wandering in high and low states of mind (pleasure and sorrow) as per preordained destiny.
Bila kutafakari hekima ya kiroho, mtu anaendelea kuzurura katika hali za juu na za chini za akili (raha na huzuni) kulingana na hatima iliyoagiziwa mapema.

ਬਿਨੁ ਉਪਮਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਕੀ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਨ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
bin upmaa jagdees kee binsai na anDhi-aaraa. ||3||
Without singing praises of God, the darkness of ignorance is not dispelled. |3|
Bila kuimba sifa za Mungu, giza ya ujinga haiondolewi.

ਜਗੁ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
jag binsat ham daykhi-aa lobhay ahaNkaaraa.
I have seen the humanity beingspiritually destroyed by greed and egotism.
Nimeona binadamu akiangamizwa kiroho kwa tamaa na ubinafsi.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੪॥
gur sayvaa parabh paa-i-aa sach mukat du-aaraa. ||4||
By meditating on Naam through the Guru’s teaching, God is realized and freedom from the vices is attained. ||4||
Kwa kutafakari kuhusu Naam kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, Mungu anagunduliwa na uhuru kutoka dhambi unapatwa.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਅਪਾਰ ਕੋ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
nij ghar mahal apaar ko aprampar so-ee.
The palace of that limitless God is in our own hearts, and He also is farther than the farthest.
Kasri ya huyo Mungu asiye na kikomo ni mioyo yetu wenyewe, na Yeye pia yu mbali zaidi kuliko vyote.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
bin sabdai thir ko nahee boojhai sukh ho-ee. ||5||
Without reflecting on the Guru’s word no one can remain permanently attuned to God. Peace is attained only by following the Guru’s teachings. ||5||
Bila kutafakari kuhusu neno la Guru hakuna mtu anaweza kubaki amemakinikia Mungu milele. Amani inapatwa tu kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਆ ਫਾਸਹਿ ਜਮ ਜਾਲਾ ॥
ki-aa lai aa-i-aa lay jaa-ay ki-aa faaseh jam jaalaa.
O’ mortal, what did you bring to this world and what are you going to take with you? Why are you getting caught in the noose of spiritual death?
Ee binadamu, ulileta nini duniani humu na utaambatana na nini ukiondoka? Kwa nini unanaswa katika kitanzi cha kifo cha kiroho?

ਡੋਲੁ ਬਧਾ ਕਸਿ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਪਤਾਲਾ ॥੬॥
dol baDhaa kas jayvree aakaas pataalaa. ||6||
As a bucket tied to a rope is sometimes lowered into the well and sometimes pulled up, similarly, at times you are in high spirits and at times in low spirits. |6|
Kama vile ndoo iliyofungwa kwa kamba wakati mwingine inashushwa kwenye kisima na wakati mwingine inavutwa juu, vivyo hivyo, wakati mwingine wewe ni mchangamfu na wakati mwingine umetamauka.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
gurmat naam na veesrai sehjay pat paa-ee-ai.
If we do not forsake Naam then by following the Guru’s teachingsintuitively we receive honor in God’s court.
Iwapo tusiache Naam basi kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru tunapokea heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥੭॥
antar sabad niDhaan hai mil aap gavaa-ee-ai. ||7||
Everyone has the wealth of Naam in their heart but it is attained only by eradicating self-conceit. ||7||
Kila mtu ana utajiri wa Naam moyoni mwake lakini inapatikana tu kwa kuangamiza majivuno binafsi.

ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੁਣ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
nadar karay parabh aapnee gun ank samaavai.
The person on whom God casts His merciful glance by blessing with virtues, He merges that person in His embrace.
Kwa mtu ambaye Mungu anampa mtazamo wake wa huruma kwa kumbariki na fadhila, Yeye anaunganisha mtu huyo katika kumbatio chake.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੧॥੧੭॥
naanak mayl na chook-ee laahaa sach paavai. ||8||1||17||
O’ Nanak, this union is never dissolved and in this way one earns the profit of Naam by meditating on the eternal God. ||8||1|||17||
Ee Nanak, muungano huu kamwe havunjwi na kwa njia hii mtu anachuma faida ya Naam kwa kutafakari kuhusu Mungu wa milele.
