ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਢੋਈ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਝੂਠੁ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ar ar o-ee na lahai argeh oo u-aar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
You will not find any shelter in God’s court, because falsehood is disgraced there.
Hutapata kificho chochote katika mahakama ya Mungu, kwa sababu udanganyifu unafedheheshwa huko.

ਆਪਿ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਭੁਲਈ ਸਚਾ ਵਡ ਕਿਰਸਾਣੁ ॥
aap sujaa na ul-ee sachaa vad kirsaa.
God is like a wise farmer who never makes mistakes.
Mungu ni kama mkulima mwenye busara ambaye kamwe hafanyi makosa.

ਪਹਿਲਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਧਿ ਕੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇ ਦਾਣੁ ॥
pahilaa aree saa kai sach naam ay aa.
(Just as a farmer first prepares the ground to make it suitable for sowing seeds so that he gets a good crop) God similarly first prepares the heart of a person by inculcating in it divine virtues and then gives the gift (plants the seed) of Naam.
(Kama vile mkulima kwanza anatayarisha ardhi kuifanya ifae kupanda mbegu ili apate mimea mizuri) Mungu vivyo hivyo kwanza anatayarisha moyo wa mtu kwa kuweka ndani mwake fadhila takatifu na kisha anaupa thawabu (kupanda mbegu) ya Naam.

ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਵੈ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
na-o ni upjai naam ayk karam pavai neesaa. |
Then there grows the crop of Naam, valuable like the nine treasures. And this blessed person receives the mark of God’s grace.
Kisha hapo mnamea mmea wa Naam, ulio na thamani kama hazina tisa. Na mtu huyu aliyebarikiwa anapokea ishara ya neema ya Mungu.

ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਜਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਚਜੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
gur ka-o jaa na jaa-ee ki-aa is chaj achaar.
The person who knowingly does not understand or follow the Guru’s teachings has no sense of proper conduct in life.
Mtu ambaye kwa kufahamu kwake haelewi au kufuata mafundisho ya Guru hana hisi yoyote ya tabia inayofaa maishani.

ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
anulai naam visaari-aa manmu an gubaar.
That Manmukh (self-willed) is spiritually blind and he has forgotten God’s Name. He livesin complete darkness of spiritual ignorance.
Manmukh (mtu mwenye hiari binafsi) huyo ni kipofu kiroho na amesahau Jina la Mungu. Yeye anaishi katika giza totoro ya ujinga wa kiroho.

ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੩॥
aava jaa na chuk-ee mar janmai ho-ay u-aar. ||3||
His coming and going does not end: he keeps suffering in rounds of births and deaths.
Kuja na kuenda kwake hakuishi; anaendelea kuteseka katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਚੰਦਨੁ ਮੋਲਿ ਅਣਾਇਆ ਕੁੰਗੂ ਮਾਂਗ ਸੰਧੂਰੁ ॥
chanan mol aaa-i-aa kungoo maaNg sanoor.
To please her Master the soul- bride may adorn herself with all sorts of cosmetics,
Ili kupendeza Bwana wake roho-bi harusi anaweza kujipamba na aina zote za vipodozi.

ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਘਣਾ ਪਾਨਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਪੂਰੁ ॥
cho-aa chanan baho aaa paanaa naal kapoor.
She uses mouth fresheners, and applies scent and perfume to her body,
Yeye anatumia visafisha hewa vya mdomo, na kupaka marashi na manukato kwa mwili wake.

ਜੇ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਵਈ ਤ ਸਭਿ ਅਡੰਬਰ ਕੂੜੁ ॥੪॥
jay an kan na aav-ee a sa adambar koo. ||4||
but if this soul- bride is not pleasing to her Master (God), then all these trappings are useless. (God can not be pleased by religious garbs and rituals)
lakini iwapo roho-bi harusi huyu hapendezi kwa Bwana (Mungu) wake, basi vipodozi hivi vyote ni bure. (Mungu hawezi kupendezwa na mavazi na mila za kidini)

ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਬਾਦਿ ਹਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
sa ras oga baa heh sa seegaar vikaar.
Her enjoyment of all pleasures is futile, and all her decorations are useless.
Kufurahi kwake kwa raha zote ni bure, na mapambo yake yote ni bure.

ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਭੇਦੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਹੈ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿ ॥
jab lag saba na ayee-ai ki-o sohai guru-aar.
Until she has been imbued with the Guru’s word, how can she get honored at God’s court?
Hadi wakati atapenyezwa na neno la Guru, anawezaje kuenziwa katika mahakama ya Mungu?

ਨਾਨਕ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਹ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੫॥੧੩॥
naanak an suhaagaee jin sah naal pi-aar. ||5||13||
O Nanak, blessed is that fortunate soul-bride, who is in love with her Master.
Ee Nanak, amebarikiwa huyo roho-bi harusi mwenye bahati, ambaye anapenda Bwana wake.

Katika Siree Raag, na Guru wa Kwanza:

ਸੁੰਞੀ ਦੇਹ ਡਰਾਵਣੀ ਜਾ ਜੀਉ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
suee ayh daraavaee jaa jee-o vichahu jaa-ay.
When the soul departs, the body looks deserted and dreadful.
Wakati roho inaondoka, mwili inakaa mahame na yenye kuhofiwa.

ਭਾਹਿ ਬਲੰਦੀ ਵਿਝਵੀ ਧੂਉ ਨ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਕਾਇ ॥
aahi balanee vivee oo-o na niksi-o kaa-ay.
The burning fire of life is extinguished, and the smoke of the breath no longer emerges.
Moto inayowaka wa uhai unazimwa, na moshi ya pumzi haijitokezi tena.

ਪੰਚੇ ਰੁੰਨੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਭਰੇ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥੧॥
panchay runnay u aray binsay oojai aa-ay. ||1||
The five sense organs cry in grief for having been wasted through the love of things other than God.
Viungo vitano vya hisi vinalia kwa majonzi vikiwa vimetumiwa vibaya kwa upendo wa vitu mbali na Mungu.

ਮੂੜੇ ਰਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥
mooay raam japahu gu saar.
O’ fool: remember God and His virtues with love and devotion.
Ee mpumbavu; kumbuka Mungu na fadhila zake kwa upendo na ujitoaji.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਸਭ ਮੁਠੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ha-umai mamaa mohee sa muee ahankaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Egotism and possessiveness are very enticing; egotistical pride has deceived everyone.
Ubinafsi na umiliki unavutia sana; fahari ya ubinafsi imedanganya kila mtu.

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿ ॥
jinee naam visaari-aa oojee kaarai lag.
They who become engrossed in worldly pursuits have forgotten God,
Wale ambao wamevama katika harakati za kidunia wamemsahau Mungu,

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਲਾਗੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਿ ॥
ubiaa laagay pach mu-ay anar arisnaa ag.
attached to worldly things, and consumed by the fire of their desires, they are spiritually dead.
Wakiambatishwa kwa vitu vya kidunia, na kumezwa na moto wa hamu zao, wamekufa kiroho.

ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹੋਰਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਠਗਿ ॥੨॥
gur raaay say ubray hor muee anai ag. ||2||
Those who are protected by the Guru are saved; all others are cheated and plundered by deceitful worldly affairs.
Wale ambao wanalindwa na Guru wanaokolewa; wote wengine wanadanganywa na kuporwa na shughuli za kidunia za uongo.

ਮੁਈ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਗਇਆ ਮੁਆ ਵੈਰੁ ਵਿਰੋਧੁ ॥
mu-ee paree pi-aar ga-i-aa mu-aa vair viro.
The one who follows Guru’s teachings, his worldly love vanishes along with all attachments, enmity and hatred,
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru, upendo wake wa kidunia unapotea pamoja na viambatisho vyote, uadui na chuki,

ਧੰਧਾ ਥਕਾ ਹਉ ਮੁਈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ॥
anaa thakaa ha-o mu-ee mamaa maa-i-aa kro.
all his worldly pursuits are over and his egotism, emotional attachment and anger ends.
Harakati zake zote za kidunia zimekwisha na ubinafsi wake, kiambatisho cha kihisia na hasira inakwisha.

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰੋਧੁ ॥੩॥
karam milai sach paa-ee-ai gurmu saaa niro. ||3||
The one who follows Guru’s teachings, always controls his senses and realizes God through His grace.
Yule anayefuata mafundisho ya Guru, daima anadhibiti hisi zake na anagundua Mungu kwa neema ya Mungu.

ਸਚੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
sachee kaarai sach milai gurma palai paa-ay.
By following Guru’s teachings and meditating on God’s Name, one realizes God.
Kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru na kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, mtu anagundua Mungu.

ਸੋ ਨਰੁ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਮਰੈ ਨਾ ਆਵੈ ਨਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
so nar jammai naa marai naa aavai naa jaa-ay.
Then, such a person is not subjected to cycles of birth and death.
Kisha, mtu kama huyo hatiishwi kwa mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਸੋ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੪॥
naanak ar paraan so argahi paiaa jaa-ay. ||4||14||
O’ Nanak, that person is recognized as a dignitary and is honored in God’s court.
Ee Nanak, mtu huyo anatambuliwa kama mheshimiwa na anaenziwa katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲ ੧ ॥

Siree Raag, by the First Guru;
Siree Raag, na Guru wa Kwanza:

ਤਨੁ ਜਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਮਾਟੀ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੂਰੁ ॥
an jal bal maatee a-i-aa man maa-i-aa mohi manoor.
The body of a self conceited person is burnt to ashes in the fire of vices and his mind is rusted in the love of Maya. (worldly riches and power)
Mwili wa mtu mwenye majivuno binafsi inateketezwa kuwa majivu katika moto wa maovu na akili yake inapata kutu katika upendo wa Maya (utajiri na mamlaka ya kidunia).

ਅਉਗਣ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਾਗੂ ਭਏ ਕੂਰਿ ਵਜਾਵੈ ਤੂਰੁ ॥
a-uga fir laagoo a-ay koor vajaavai oor.
The vices haunt his mind like enemies.Yet still such a person, engrossed in falsehood, keeps blowing the bugle of love for worldly riches.
Maovu yanasumbua akili yake kama maadui. Ila badi mtu kama huyo, aliyevama katika udanganyifu, anaendelea kupuliza buruji ya utajiri wa kidunia.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਰਮਾਈਐ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਡੋਬੇ ਪੂਰੁ ॥੧॥
bin sabai armaa-ee-ai ubiaa dobay poor. ||1||
Without following the Guru’s teachings he is led astray and the love of worldly things destroys all his senses.
Bila kufuata mafundisho ya Guru yeye anapotoshwa na upendo wa vitu vya kidunia unaangamiza hisi zake.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰਹੁ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
man ray saba arahu chi laa-ay.
O’ my mind, follow the Guru’s teachings with full concentration and swim across the world-ocean of vices.
Ee akili yangu, fuata mafundisho ya Guru kwa umakini kamili na uogelee ukivuka bahari-dunia ya dhambi.

ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jin gurmu naam na booi-aa mar janmai aavai jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The person who does not grasp the Guru’s Gift of Naam, he continues to suffer in cycles of birth and death.
Mtu ambaye hashikilii thawabu ya Guru wa Naam, yeye anaendelea kuteseka katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਤਨੁ ਸੂਚਾ ਸੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥
an soochaa so aaee-ai jis meh saachaa naa-o.
That body is said to be pure, in which dwells the eternal Name of God.
Mwili huo unasemekana kuwa safi, ambao ndani mwake mnaishi Jina la milele la Mungu.

ਭੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਦੇਹੁਰੀ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥
ai sach raaee ayhuree jihvaa sach su-aa-o.
One whose body is imbued with loving fear of God and whose purpose in life is to sing praises of God,
Yule ambaye mwili wake umepenyezwa na hofu ya upendo wa Mungu na ambaye kusudi lake ni kuimba sifa za Mungu,

ਸਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਤਾਉ ॥੨॥
sachee naar nihaalee-ai bahu na paavai aa-o. ||2||
is blessed by God’s gracious glance. That person does not have to go through the suffering in the cycles of birth and death.
Amebarikiwa na mtazamo wa neema wa Mungu. Mtu huyo halazimiki kupitia mateso katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇ ਪਵਨਾ ਭਇਆ ਪਵਨੈ ਤੇ ਜਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
saachay ay pavnaa a-i-aa pavnai ay jal ho-ay.
From the ever existing God came the air, and from the air came water.
Kutoka kwa Mungu anayeishi milele kulitokea hewa, na kutoka kwa hewa kulitokea maji.

ਜਲ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮੋਇ ॥
jal ay ariava saaji-aa at at jo samo-ay.
From water, He created the three worlds (earth, sky and nether region); and His light pervades in each and every heart.
Kutoka kwa maji, Yeye aliumba dunia tatu (ardhi, anga na maeneo ya chini ya dunia); na mwanga wake unapenyeza katika kila moyo.

ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
nirmal mailaa naa thee-ai saba raay pa ho-ay. ||3||
Person imbued with Guru’s word gets honor, he always remains immaculate and never become soiled with vices.
Mtu aliyepenyezwa na neno la Guru anapata staha, yeye daima anabaki safi na kamwe hachafuliwi na maovu.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੰਤੋਖਿਆ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
ih man saach sanoi-aa naar karay is maahi.
When his mind becomes contented by meditating on God’s Name with loving devotion, then His grace falls upon him.
Wakati akili yake inatoshelezwa kwa kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu kwa ujitoaji wa upendo, basi neema ya Mungu inamshukia yeye.
