ਕੇਤੀਆ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਕੇਵਡ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
kaytee-aa tayree-aa kudratee kayvad tayree daat.
O’ God countless are your Powers and innumerable are your Blessings.
Ee Mungu Nguvu zako haziwezi kuhesabika na Baraka zako haziwezi kuhesabika.

ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
kaytay tayray jee-a jant sifat karahi din raat.
So many of Your beings and creatures praise You day and night.
Wengi sana wa viumbe na wanyama wako wanakusifu Wewe mchana na usiku.

ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਕੇਤੇ ਜਾਤਿ ਅਜਾਤਿ ॥੩॥
kaytay tayray roop rang kaytay jaat ajaat. ||3||
You have so many forms and colors, so many classes, high and low.
Wewe una miundo na rangi nyingi sana, matabaka mengi mno, ya juu na ya chini.

ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
sach milai sach oopjai sach meh saach samaa-ay.
When one acquires the Truth about God after listening to the Guru, then deep faith arises in one’s mind, and one becomes absorbed in the eternal (God).
Wakati mtu anapata Ukweli kuhusu Mungu baada ya kusikiliza Guru, basi imani ya kina inatokea akilini mwa mtu, na mtu anavama katika (Mungu) wa milele.

ਸੁਰਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਊਗਵੈ ਗੁਰਬਚਨੀ ਭਉ ਖਾਇ ॥
surat hovai pat oogvai gurbachnee bha-o khaa-ay.
When through the Guru’s word we conquer our worldly fear, and come to possess divine wisdom, we gain respect in God’s court.
Wakati kupitia kwa neno la Guru tunatawala uoga wetu wa kidunia, na kuja kumiliki hekima takatifu, tunapata heshima katika mahakama ya Mungu.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥
naanak sachaa paatisaahu aapay la-ay milaa-ay. ||4||10||
O Nanak, God, the true king merges us into Himself.
Ee Nanak, Mungu, mfalme wa kweli anatuunganisha ndani yake Mwenyewe.

Siree Raag, na Guru wa Kwanza:

ਭਲੀ ਸਰੀ ਜਿ ਉਬਰੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੁਈ ਘਰਾਹੁ ॥
bhalee saree je ubree ha-umai mu-ee gharaahu.
It all worked out well-I was saved from the vices, and the egotism from my heart was subdued.
Kila kitu kilitendeka vizuri-Niliokolewa kutoka kwa maovu, na ubinafsi wa moyo wangu ulishindwa.

ਦੂਤ ਲਗੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
doot lagay fir chaakree satgur kaa vaysaahu.
And the evil energies (vices) have been made to serve me, since I placed my faith in the True Guru.
Na nishati mbaya (maovu) zimefanywa zinitumikie, kwani niliweka imani yangu kwa Guru wa Kweli.

ਕਲਪ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਬਾਦਿ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੧॥
kalap ti-aagee baad hai sachaa vayparvaahu. ||1||
I have renounced my anxiety, by the Grace of God.
Nimekana wasiwasi wangu, kwa Neema ya Mungu.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
man ray sach milai bha-o jaa-ay.
O mind, meeting with the True One, worldly fear departs.
Ee akili, kwa kukutana na yule Mmoja wa Kweli, uoga wa kidunia unaondoka.

ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਿਉ ਥੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhai bin nirbha-o ki-o thee-ai gurmukh sabad samaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Unless one has loving fear of God in mind, one cannot escape from the worldly fear.This state of mind is achieved only by getting attuned to the Guru’s word.
Mtu asipokuwa na uoga kwa upendo wa Mungu akilini, hawezi kuhepa kutoka kwa uoga wa kidunia. Hali hii ya kiakili inatimizwa tu kwa kumakinikia neno la Guru.

ਕੇਤਾ ਆਖਣੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਖਣਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
kaytaa aakhan aakhee-ai aakhan tot na ho-ay.
The mortals keep asking for more and worldly things, this demand never ends.
Binadamu wanaendelea kuulizia vitu vingi zaidi vya kidunia, dai hili kamwe halikwishi.

ਮੰਗਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੇਤੜੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
mangan vaalay kayt-rhay daataa ayko so-ay.
There are so many beggars, but He is the only Giver.
Kuna waombaji wengi sana, lakini Yeye ndiye Mpaji wa pekee.

ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਜੀਅ ਪਰਾਣ ਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
jis kay jee-a paraan hai man vasi-ai sukh ho-ay. ||2||
One enjoys true peace only when that Master (God), to whom the life and soul belong, comes to dwell in the mind.
Mtu anafurahia amani ya kweli wakati tu Bwana huyo (Mungu), ambaye anamiliki uhai na roho, anakuja kuishi akilini.

ਜਗੁ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਬਾਜੀ ਬਨੀ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਖੇਲਾਇ ॥
jag supnaa baajee banee khin meh khayl khaylaa-ay.
The world is like a dream in which the game of life is played, which is over in an instant.
Dunia ni kama ndoto ambamo mchezo wa maisha unachezwa, ambao unaweza kuishi haraka mno.

ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਏਕਸੇ ਵਿਜੋਗੀ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
sanjogee mil ayksay vijogee uth jaa-ay.
Some attain union with God, while others depart in separation.
Wengine wanatimiza muungano na Mungu, wakati wengine wanaondoka katika utengano.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਣਾ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥
jo tis bhaanaa so thee-ai avar na karnaa jaa-ay. ||3||
Whatever pleases Him comes to pass; nothing else can be done.
Chochote kinachompendeza Yeye kinatendeka; hakuna kitu kingine kinaweza kutendwa.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਵੇਸਾਹੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
gurmukh vasat vaysaahee-ai sach vakhar sach raas.
Through the Guru’s teachings one should collect the treasure of God’s Name which is the real wealth.
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru mtu anafaa kukusanya hazina ya Jina la Mungu ambayo ni utajiri halisi.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਵਣੰਜਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
jinee sach vananji-aa gur pooray saabaas.
Those, who have collected the treasure of God’s Name are approved by the perfectGuru.
Wale, ambao wamekusanya hazina ya Jina la Mungu wameidhinishwa na Guru kamili.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਸਤੁ ਪਛਾਣਸੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੧੧॥
naanak vasat pachhaansee sach sa-udaa jis paas. ||4||11||
O’ Nanak, God will recognize that person who has this true wealth of Naam.
Ee Nanak, Mungu atatambua mtu huyo ambaye ana utajiri huu wa kweli wa Naam.

ਧਾਤੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਧਾਤੁ ਕਉ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Dhaat milai fun Dhaat ka-o siftee sifat samaa-ay.
Just as metal merges with metal, when melted, similarly, those who sing the Praises of God are absorbed into the Praiseworthy God.
Kama vile chuma kinaungana na chuma, wakati kinayeyushwa, vivyo hivyo, wale wanaoimba Sifa za Mungu wanavamishwa katika Mungu anayestahili Sifa.

ਲਾਲੁ ਗੁਲਾਲੁ ਗਹਬਰਾ ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਉ ॥
laal gulaal gahbaraa sachaa rang charhaa-o.
And they are deeply imbued with the love for God.
Na wanapenyezwa kwa kina na upendo wa Mungu.

ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥੧॥
sach milai santokhee-aa har jap aykai bhaa-ay. ||1||
Those contented souls who remember God with single-minded love, realize God.
Roho hao waliotoshelezwa wanaomkumbuka Mungu kwa upendo wa nia moja, wanagundua Mungu.

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ॥
bhaa-ee ray sant janaa kee rayn.
O, my friends, humbly listen and follow the teachings of the Saints.
Ee marafiki wangu, sikilizeni kwa unyenyekevu na mfuate mafundisho ya Watakatifu.

ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਧੇਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sant sabhaa gur paa-ee-ai mukat padaarath Dhayn. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It is only in the holy congregation that we find the Guru, who (like the wish fulfilling cow Kamdhen), leads us to liberation by saving us from vices.
Ni katika ushirika mtakatifu tu ambapo tunapata Guru, ambaye (kama ng’ombe Kamdhen anayetimiza matakwa), anatuongoza kwa ukombozi kwa kutuokoa kutoka maovu.

ਊਚਉ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ਊਪਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥
oocha-o thaan suhaavanaa oopar mahal muraar.
Upon that Highest Plane of Sublime Beauty, stands God’s court. (to reach a state of divine wisdom, one has to rise above the material motivations of Maya)
Kwenye Pleni ya juu zaidi ya Uzuri Mtukufu, mnasimama mahakama ya Mungu. (kufikia hekima takatifu, mtu anafaa kuinuka juu ya vishawishi vya kidunia vya Maya)

ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
sach karnee day paa-ee-ai dar ghar mahal pi-aar.
It is through true loving conduct that we find the door to His mansion (the divine state).
Ni kupitia tabia ya upendo ya kweli ambapo tunapata mlango wa jumba lake (hali takatifu).

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
gurmukh man samjaa-ee-ai aatam raam beechaar. ||2||
It is through the Guru’s teachings that we instruct our mind to contemplate on the omnipresent Godwith love and devotion.
Ni kupitia mafundisho ya Guru ambapo tunaelekeza akili yetu kutafakari kuhusu Mungu ambaye yupo kila mahali kwa upendo na ujitoaji.

ਤ੍ਰਿਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਈਅਹਿ ਆਸ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
taribaDh karam kamaa-ee-ahi aas andaysaa ho-ay.
Hope and anxiety are produced by the actions committed under the influence of the three traits of Maya ie vice, virtue and power
Tumaini na wasiwasi unazalishwa kwa vitendo vilivyotendwa chini ya ushawishi wa mbinu tatu za Maya, uovu, fadhila na mamlaka.

ਕਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਛੁਟਸੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
ki-o gur bin tarikutee chhutsee sahj mili-ai sukh ho-ay.
Without the Guru’s teaching, this worry does not go away. It is only when we imperceptibly meet God that we live in peace.
Bila funzo la Guru, wasiwasi huu hauondoki. Ni wakati tu tunakutana na Mungu kwa utaratibu ambapo tunaishi kwa amani.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਇ ॥੩॥
nij ghar mahal pachhaanee-ai nadar karay mal Dho-ay. ||3||
It is only through God’s grace that the dirt of vices from our mind is washed off, and through Guru’s teachings we realize God’s presence within ourselves.
Ni kwa neema ya Mungu pekee ambapo uchafu wa dhambi kutoka kwa akili yetu unasafishwa na kupitia mafundisho ya Guru tunagundua uwepo wa Mungu ndani mwetu.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਉ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
bin gur mail na utrai bin har ki-o ghar vaas.
Without the Guru’s teachings, this dirt of vices is not washed off. Without God’s grace, how can we realize Him within ourselves?
Bila mafundisho ya Guru, uchafu huu wa maovu hausafishwi. Bila neema ya Mungu, tunawezaje kumgundua Yeye ndani mwetu?

ਏਕੋ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਐ ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਆਸ ॥
ayko sabad veechaaree-ai avar ti-aagai aas.
We should contemplates upon Divine Word and abandon all other hopes.
Tunafaa kutafakari kuhusu Neno Takatifu na kuacha matumaini yote mengine.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਈਐ ਹਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੧੨॥
naanak daykh dikhaa-ee-ai ha-o sad balihaarai jaas. ||4||12||
O Nanak, I dedicate myself forever to such a Guru, who has himself seen God, and also helps others to behold Him.
Ee Nanak, najiweka wakfu milele kwa Guru kama huyo, ambaye mwenyewe ameona Mungu, na pia anasaidia wengine kumtazama Yeye.

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮੁਠੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
Dharig jeevan duhaaganee muthee doojai bhaa-ay.
Accursed is the life of an unfortunate soul-bride, who instead of being in love with her Master, is deluded by love of material objects.
Yamelaaniwa maisha ya roho-bi harusi asiye na bahati, ambaye badala ya kumpenda Bwana wake, amedanganywa na upendo wa vitu vya kidunia.

ਕਲਰ ਕੇਰੀ ਕੰਧ ਜਿਉ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਕਿਰਿ ਢਹਿ ਪਾਇ ॥
kalar kayree kanDh ji-o ahinis kir dheh paa-ay.
Like a wall of sand, day and night, she crumbles, and eventually, she breaks down altogether.
Kama ukuta wa mchanga, mchana na usiku, yeye anaporomoka, na mwishowe, anabomoka kabisa.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
bin sabdai sukh naa thee-ai pir bin dookh na jaa-ay. ||1||
Without following the Guru’s teachings, there is no peace in her life. Without realizing God, her suffering does not end.
Bila kufuata mafundisho ya Guru, hakuna amani yoyote maishani mwake. Bila kumgundua Mungu, mateso yake hayakwishi.

ਮੁੰਧੇ ਪਿਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥
munday pir bin ki-aa seegaar.
O’ foolish soul bride, without the groom, there is no use of your adornments.
Ee roho-bi harusi mpumbavu, bila bwana harusi, hakuna manufaa kwa mapambo yako.
