ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਠਾਢੇ ॥੧॥
gur pooraa paa-i-aa vadbhaagee har mantar dee-aa man thaadhay. ||1||
By good fortune I have met the Perfect Guru. He has given me the Mantra of meditation on God’s Name, by which my mind has become tranquil.
Kwa bahati nzuri nimekutana na Guru Kamili. Amenipa mantra ya kutafakari kuhusu Jina la Mungu, ambayo kuipitia akili yangu imekuwa tulivu.

ਰਾਮ ਹਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਾਂਢੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam ham satgur laalay kaaNdhay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, I am called the servant of the True Guru.
Ee Mungu, mimi naitwa mtumishi wa Guru wa Kweli.

ਹਮਰੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਦਾਗੁ ਦਗਾਨਾ ਹਮ ਕਰਜ ਗੁਰੂ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਢੇ ॥
hamrai mastak daag dagaanaa ham karaj guroo baho saadhay.
I owe such a huge debt to the Guru, therefore I am branded as his servant.
Nina deni kubwa mno ya Guru, hivyo basi naitwa mtumishi wake.

ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਭਉ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਢੇ ॥੨॥
par-upkaar punn baho kee-aa bha-o dutar taar paraadhay. ||2||
The Guru has been so generous and kind to me, that He has ferried me across the treacherous and terrifying world-ocean of vices.
Guru amekuwa mkarimu na mwenye fadhili sana kwangu, hadi amenivukisha bahari-dunia ya dhambi yenye maovu mengi na inayoogofya.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਿਨ ਕੂਰੇ ਗਾਢਨ ਗਾਢੇ ॥
jin ka-o pareet ridai har naahee tin kooray gaadhan gaadhay.
Those who do not have love for God within their hearts, have tied themselves in false bonds.
Wale ambao hawana upendo kwa Mungu ndani mwa mioyo yao, wamejifunga katika vifungo vsizvyo vya kweli.

ਜਿਉ ਪਾਣੀ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਹੈ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਗਰਭਿ ਗਲਾਢੇ ॥੩॥
ji-o paanee kaagad binas jaat hai ti-o manmukh garabh galaadhay. ||3||
Just as paper breaks down and dissolves in water, similarly these self-willed persons spiritually waste away in the cycles of birth and death.
Kama vile karatasi inaharibika na kuyeyuka kwenye maji, vivyo hivyohao watu wenye hiari binafsi wanadhoofika katika mizunguko ya kuzaliwa na kufa.

ਹਮ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਆਗੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਉ ਠਾਢੇ ॥
ham jaani-aa kachhoo na jaanah aagai ji-o har raakhai ti-o thaadhay.
We did not know anything before, nor do we know now. So we stay in whatever state God keeps us.
Hatukujua chochote mbeleni, wala hatujui chochote wakati huu. Hivyo tunakaa katika hali yoyote ambayo Mungu anatuweka.

ਹਮ ਭੂਲ ਚੂਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੁਤਰੇ ਕਾਢੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੨੧॥੫੯॥
ham bhool chook gur kirpaa Dhaarahu jan naanak kutray kaadhay. |4|7|21|59|
Nanak says, O’ Guru, we are like Your pet puppies, Please bestow mercy and disregard our mistakes. |4|7|21|59|
Nanak asema, Ee Guru, sisi ni kama vitoto vipenzi cha mbwa, Tafadhali tawaza ruhuma yako na upuuze makosa yetu.

ਕਾਮਿ ਕਰੋਧਿ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਖੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
kaam karoDh nagar baho bhari-aa mil saaDhoo khandal khanda hay.
The human body is filled with lust and anger. These vices can be destroyedby following the Guru’s teachings.
Mwili wa binadamu umejawa na ukware na hasira. Maovu haya yanaweza kuangamizwa kwa kufuata mafundisho ya Guru.

ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਤ ਲਿਖੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਮੰਡਲ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
poorab likhat likhay gur paa-i-aa man har liv mandal mandaa hay. ||1||
The one who meets with the Guru as per pre-ordained destiny, his mind gets attuned to the love of God.||1||
Yule anayekutana na Guru kulingana na hatima iliyoagiziwa mapema, akili yake inamakinikia upendo wa Mungu.

ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਅੰਜੁਲੀ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
kar saaDhoo anjulee punn vadaa hay.
Bow to the Guru with folded hands, this is a great virtue deed.
Inamisha kichwa mbele ya Guru kwa mikono mikunjufu, hiki ni kitendo chenye fadhila kuu.

ਕਰਿ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਪੁਨੁ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar dand-ut pun vadaa hay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Prostrate before the Guru; this is a most virtuous action indeed.
Sujudu mbele ya Guru; kwa kweli hiki ni kitendo chema mno.

ਸਾਕਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
saakat har ras saad na jaani-aa tin antar ha-umai kandaa hay.
The faithless cynics, do not know the taste of the sublime essence of God’s Name, because egotism is embedded deep within them like a thorn.
Wabeuzi wasio na imani, hawajui kionjo cha kiini tukufu cha Jina la Mungu, kwa sababu ubinafsi umejikita ndani mwao kwa kina kama mwiba.

ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਚਲਹਿ ਚੁਭੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਹਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਡੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
ji-o ji-o chaleh chubhai dukh paavahi jamkaal saheh sir dandaa hay. ||2||
As they lead their life, this thorn of ego hurts them more and more, and theybear on their head the torture of spiritual death.
Wanavyoishi maisha yao, mwiba huu wa ubinafsi unawaumiza zaidi na zaidi, na wanastahimili kichwani pao mateso ya kifo cha kiroho.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
har jan har har naam samaanay dukh janam maran bhav khanda hay.
The humble devotees of God remain absorbed in His Name, and their pain of birth and death is eradicated.
Watawa wanyenyekevu wa Mungu wanabaki wamevama katika Jina lake, na uchungu wao wa kuzaliwa na kufa unaondolewa.

ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਸੋਭ ਖੰਡ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
abhinaasee purakh paa-i-aa parmesar baho sobh khand brahmananda hay. ||3||
They realize the eternal Supreme God, and receive great honor in all regions of the universes. ||3||
Wanagundua Mungu Mkuu wa milele, na kupokea heshima kuu katika maeneo yote ya ulimwengu yote.

ਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਮਸਕੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਵਡ ਵਡਾ ਹੇ ॥
ham gareeb maskeen parabh tayray har raakh raakh vad vadaa hay.
O’ the greatest of the great God, we are Your humble servants, please save us.
Ee Mungu Mkuu kati ya wakuu wote, Sisi ndisi watumishi wako wanyenyekevu, tafadhali tuokoe.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਮੰਡਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੮॥੨੨॥੬੦॥
jan nanak naam aDhaar tayk hai har naamay hee sukh mandaa hay. |4|8|22|60|
O’ Nanak, the one whose only sustenance and support in life is Naam, enjoys the spiritual bliss through Naam.|4|8|22|60|
Ee Nanak, yule ambaye riziki na msaada wake wa kipekee maishani ni Naam, anafurahia raha tele ya kiroho kupitia Naam.

ਇਸੁ ਗੜ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਇ ਹੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਧੀਠਾ ॥
is garh meh har raam raa-ay hai kichh saad na paavai Dheethaa.
Being absorbed in worldly vices, the stubborn mortal doesn’t enjoy the bliss of the Supreme God’s presence within the body
Akiwa amevama katika maovu ya kidunia, binadamu mkaidi hafurahii raha tele ya uwepo wa Mungu Mkuu ndani mwa mwili wake.

ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਚਖਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੧॥
har deen da-i-aal anoograhu kee-aa har gur sabdee chakh deethaa. ||1||
The one upon whom the merciful God of the meek has shown kindness, through the Guru’s word he has tasted the relish of God’s love. ||1||
Kwa yule ambaye Mungu wa wapole mwenye huruma ameonyesha upendezi, kupitia neno la Guru ameonja furaha ya upendo wa Mungu.

ਰਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਲਿਵ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam har keertan gur liv meethaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
O’ God, singing Your praises while attuned to the Guru’s love, is very pleasing. |1|Pause.
Ee Mungu, kuimba sifa zako wakati mtu amemakinikia upendo wa Guru, kunapendeza mno. ||1||Sitisha||

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਹੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਿ ਬਸੀਠਾ ॥
har agam agochar paarbarahm hai mil satgur laag baseethaa.
Supreme God is Incomprehensible and Unfathomable. He can be realized only through the Guru’s grace.
Mungu Mkuu hawezi Kueleweka wala Kufahamika. Anaweza kugunduliwa tu kupitia neema ya Guru.

ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਤਿਨ ਆਗੈ ਆਣਿ ਪਰੀਠਾ ॥੨॥
jin gur bachan sukhaanay hee-arai tin aagai aan pareethaa. ||2||
God’s Presence is revealed to those whom the Guru’s teaching seems pleasing.
Uwepo wa Mungu unadhihirishwa kwa wale ambao mafundisho ya Guru yanaonekana kuwapendeza.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹੀਅਰਾ ਅਤਿ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੀਠਾ ॥
manmukh hee-araa at kathor hai tin antar kaar kareethaa.
The self-conceited persons are stubborn like stones. Within their mind is nothing but darkness of evil.
Watu wenye majivuno binafsi ni wakaidi kama mawe. Ndani mwa akili yao hakuna kitu ila giza ya uovu.

ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਕਉ ਬਹੁ ਦੂਧੁ ਪੀਆਈਐ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਫੋਲਿ ਫੁਲੀਠਾ ॥੩॥
bisee-ar ka-o baho dooDh pee-aa-ee-ai bikh niksai fol futheelaa. ||3||
Snakes spit only poison even when fed with milk. Similarly manmukhs return only evil in exchange for all the good done to them.
Nyoka wanatema sumu tu hata wakati wamelishwa maziwa. Vivyo hivyo manmukhs wanalipiza maovu tu kwa ubadili wa mema yote waliotendewa.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਘਸਿ ਗਰੁੜੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਲੀਠਾ ॥
har parabh aan milaavhu gur saaDhoo ghas garurh sabad mukh leethaa.
O’ God, unite me with the Guru so that by reciting His word I may remove the poison of my vices, just like the snake’s poison is removed by sucking on an herb
Ee Mungu, niunganishe na Guru ndiposa kwa kukariri neno lake niweze kuondoa sumu ya maovu yangu, kama vile sumu ya nyoka inatolewa kwa kunyonya kibaazi.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਲਾਲੇ ਗੋਲੇ ਲਗਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰੂਆ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੪॥੯॥੨੩॥੬੧॥
jan naanak gur kay laalay golay lag sangat karoo-aa meethaa. ||4||9||23||61||
Nanak is the humble servant of the Guru; in the Holy Congregation, his bitter nature becomes sweet and pleasant.||4||9||23||61||
Nanak ni mtumishi mnyenyekevu wa Guru; katika Ushirika Takatifu, silka yake chungu inakuwa tamu na ya kupendeza.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਥਿ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹਮ ਬੇਚਿਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਆਗੇ ॥
har har arath sareer ham baychi-aa pooray gur kai aagay.
For the purpose of obtaining union with God, I have completely surrendered myself to the Guru.
Kwa lengo la kupata muungano na Mungu, nimejisalimisha kikamilifu kwa Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ਸਭਾਗੇ ॥੧॥
satgur daatai naam dirhaa-i-aa mukh mastak bhaag sabhaagay. ||1||
The benevolent true Guru has enshrined God’s Name in my heart, and now my face and forehead are radiating with good fortune. ||1||
Guru mwema na wa kweli ameweka vizuri Jina la Mungu moyoni mwangu, na sasa uso na paji langu linang’aa kwa bahati njema.

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
raam gurmat har liv laagay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through the Guru’s teachings, I am lovingly attuned to God’s love. ||1||Pause||
Kupitia mafundisho ya Guru, nimemakinikia upendo wa Mungu kwa upendo. ||1||Sitisha||
